If there’s ever been a film that made me feel like I needed a shower afterwards, it’s Jesse Thomas Cook’s Septic Man. Much like the tagline states, “It’s a crappy job,” but someone has to watch it, right? If you can get past all the pooping, vomiting, rotting and festering, a unique story influenced by Lloyd Kaufman’s Toxic Avenger model might break through the cloud of odoriferous unpleasantry, but weaker stomachs will struggle to keep their lunch down. The good thing is, your tolerance will be tested within mere seconds of the films opening, so if gross-out body horror isn’t your schtick, no time is wasted introducing the disgusting lengths Cook plunges in order to deliver the most realistic depiction of sanitation-gone-wrong possible. If you can’t stand the smell, get out of the bathroom – as quickly as possible.

Monster Brawl
Stars: Dave Foley, Art Hindle, Robert Maillet, Jimmy Hart, Herb Dean, Kevin Nash, Lance Henriksen, Jason David Brown, Rj Skinner | Written and Directed by Jesse T. Cook
Monster movies and wrestling. Two of my favourite concepts that come together in the cheesy fight-flick that is Monster Brawl… Of course pitting monster vs. monster is nothing new, its an age-old concept in Hollywood, from the 40s and Frankenstein Meets the Wolfman and House of Frankenstein to modern-day efforts such as 2004′s Van Helsing, but throwing wrestling into the mix has – until now – been more of a standard of Mexican cinema. In fact Monster Brawl has (besides feeling like a Halloween episode of WWE Raw) a lot more in common with the Mexican luchador films of El Santo than anything Hollywood has ever produced.
For those looking for something substantial, I will proffer warning that the plot of Monster Brawl...

Arriving soon on region 2 DVD through Momentum is “Monster Brawl”, a film revolving around the wacky, though oddly logical concept of pitting 8 classic monster types against each other in a wrestling championship battle to the death. Written and directed by Canadian helmer Jesse T. Cook (“Scarce”), the film features comedian Dave Foley and genre veteran Art Hindle (known for his appearances in the likes of the 1978 version of “Invasion of the Body Snatchers” and Cronenberg’s “The Brood”) as ringside commentators as the contest to find the world’s top ghoul plays out in misty old graveyard. There really isn’t anything more to the plot, as Lady Vampire, Witch Bitch, Werewolf, Frankenstein’s monster (with Igor), Zombie Man, Swamp Gut, The Mummy and The Cyclops face-off against each other in a series of bouts, while wrestling icon Jimmy “Mouth of the South” Hart adds his own brand of hyperbole-packed...

Directed by Jesse T. Cook (Scarce) and starring Dave Foley (The Kids In The Hall), Lance Henriksen (Aliens), cult genre movie icon Art Hindle (Black Christmas), actor and wrestler Kevin Nash, legendary WWF and WCW manager Jimmy Hart, former WWF star Robert Maillet and Mma fighter and referee Herb Dean, Monster Brawl is the ultimate “smackdown” event of all time as eight of the world’s most feared and famous monsters enter the ring to go head-to-head in a grotesque and hilarious fight to the death.
Celebrity Wrestlemania doesn’t get any scarier – or funnier – than the Monster Brawl, in which four contestants from the Creature Conference and four from the Undead Conference battle it out in the ring to take the title of the most powerful monster of all time. Horror has been in Canada's snow for decades now, starting with the classic Cannibal Girls and Black Christmasin the early '70s, through the classic early Cronenberg years of Shivers, Rabid and The Brood in the late '70s. In the '80s, we got films like Prom Night, My Bloody Valentine and The Gate. In the past decade, we've had flicks like the Ginger Snaps series, Cube and PontyPool. In fact, you could even count the last three Dead movies by George A. Romero as Canadian — after all, he is a Canadian citizen now and made all three films in Toronto.

Monster Brawl
Director/writer: Jesse T. Cook
Country: Canada
Running Time: 85 mins
Certificate: 18
Starring: Dave Foley, Art Hindle, Robert Maillet, Kevin Nash, Jimmy Hart, Herb Dean
The writer and director of 2008's horror flick Scarce, Jesse T. Cook, revisits the genre in his latest film Monster Brawl. “The time will come when monsters shape the futures of all” begins a suitably jocular voice-over that introduces us to the “most highly-anticipated extreme sport ever”. Making a horror enthusiast's hypothetical pub chat a reality, Cook pits some of the genre's most celebrated figures against each other in the wrestling ring.
Eight of the most powerful ghouls of all time from all four corners of the earth come together and are structured into “two conferences” with middle and heavy weight “monsters” and “creatures”, such as “Witch Bitch”. An American TV show set-up is quickly established with presenter, Buzz Chambers hosting from a secret cemetery location.

Toronto’s Festival of Fear is is the largest of its kind in Canada and among the largest in world, filling the entire North building of the Metro Toronto Convention Centre with over 60,000 attendees in 2010.
The annual multigenre fan convention that runs as part of Fan Expo Canada was founded as the Canadian National Horror Expo in 2004 by Rue Morgue Magazine and Hobby Star Marketing Inc.
Originally showcasing novels, fantasy and film/television and related popular arts, the convention has expanded over the years to include a larger range of pop culture elements, such as horror, anime, manga, animation, toys, collectible card games, video games and web entertainment.
One of the more exciting aspects of the event is the presentations by Anchor Bay. This year Anchor Bay’s featured guests include Michael Biehn of The Divide & Bereavement, Art Hindle & Robert Maillet of Monster Brawl, & Trish Stratus of Bounty Hunters.

You’d be hard pressed to find any guy who hasn’t grown up with professional wrestling. Taking this mentality, and really playing up the theatrics is director Jesse T. Cook in his latest film, Monster Brawl, which will clearly answer the burning question: Which monster is the King of the (Undead) Ring?
A Cyclops, Witch Bitch, The Mummy, Lady Vampire, and more all duke it out in the flavor of those 1960s El Santo pictures, but far more cooler. Killer Film caught up with the director for a quick chat as he is finishing up the film, to talk about monsters and wrestling, as they go hand-in-hand in what is shaping up to be a fan favorite.
Jon: The website says Monster Brawl is stylized in the PPV Main Event, and while this seems like an obvious question, how did the film originate?
Jesse Thomas Cook: The film started...

Trailers are an under-appreciated art form insofar that many times they’re seen as vehicles for showing footage, explaining films away, or showing their hand about what moviegoers can expect. Foreign, domestic, independent, big budget: I celebrate all levels of trailers and hopefully this column will satisfactorily give you a baseline of what beta wave I’m operating on, because what better way to hone your skills as a thoughtful moviegoer than by deconstructing these little pieces of advertising? Some of the best authors will tell you that writing a short story is a lot harder than writing a long one, that you have to weigh every sentence. What better medium to see how this theory plays itself out beyond that than with movie trailers? Point Blank Trailer It's this time of year when escapism reigns supreme. While I haven't really found anything that satisfies my need for Crank level...

Currently sitting in post is writer/director John Geddes' ('Scarce') new zombie project 'Exit Humanity'. It's certainly getting tougher and tougher to rejig the popular flesh-eating sub-genre that is the zombie one especially with the hordes of walking dead related projects, movies and TV shows out there at the moment. But let's hope this new flick set during the American Civil War will freshen things up. 'Exit Humanity' stars Dee Wallace, Stephen McHattie, Bill Moseley, Mark Gibson, Jordan Hayes and Adam Seybold. You can check out the new teaser poster below....

Exclusive: Steve Warren is not only hilarious if you ever get a chance to speak with him, but he loves portraying pure evil and scaring people. You can check him out in the upcoming AMC series The Walking Dead where he hopefully does both to viewers. Warren has played some creepy characters before his stint as a zombie on The Walking Dead. Make sure you take a look out for Scarce, a film in which he stars and like his recent work, eats people. Keven: Your main claim to fame, as you've said before, is Scarce, where you play one of the two main villains. How was that experience and what's it like playing a cannibal? Steve: It was a dream come true: my childhood dream of being a movie star! I'd been everything from an extra to second lead in features and the lead in several shorts, but...
