Los Angeles — Bravado is a familiar part of William Shatner's image and his acting portfolio, whether he's in character as James T. Kirk, Denny Crane or the Negotiator TV pitchman.
Even the title of the one-man show he's bringing to Broadway this week – "Shatner's World: We Just Live in It" – has moxie to spare. So it's surprising, even endearing, that Shatner admits to his version of stage fright.
"My fears are not the primitive, `I'm afraid I can't talk' kind of fear that young actors have. Mine is, `I'm afraid the ticket sales won't go,'" he said recently in his memento-decorated office before heading to New York for the play's Thursday opening.
Another worry, and this is a big one: that audiences will prove tougher to impress than they were in Australia and Canada, where he toured with an early incarnation of the show. Shatner was last on...

The Captains Written and Directed by: William Shatner Starring: William Shatner, Patrick Stewart, Avery Brooks, Kate Mulgrew, Scott Bakula, Chris Pine The Captains is a documentary made for fans of Star Trek. It features interviews with the actors who starred as starship captains in the Star Trek franchise. What makes this Star Trek documentary unique is that it was written and directed by William Shatner, the second actor to play a starship captain. (Shatner replaced the first actor as captain, Jeffrey Hunter, who starred in only the pilot episode of Star Trek. Hunter has gone on to the final frontier, and so was not contacted for an interview.) Also the interviews were conducted by Shatner, who appears on-screen with his interviewees. On viewing this documentary, it soon becomes apparent that its focus is not on Star Trek, but rather on Shatner himself. I confess. I am a lapsed Trekkie. I...

Reality TV always seems to get the short end of the stick from Emmy watchers, but it's probably because the television academy really doesn't know what to do with the category.
For instance, the categories for outstanding reality show, reality-competition show and reality host have been shuttled back and forth between the main primetime ceremony and the Creative Arts ceremony -- what former winner Kathy Griffin has affectionately called the "Schmemmys" -- so many times that it's hard to keep track.
Secondly, the academy seems to be have a bit of a blind spot when it comes to reality; until 2010, the only winner of the competition show category was "The Amazing Race" (the equally highbrow-ish "Top Chef" won last year), and in the general reality program category, there's not a Kardashian or a Real Housewife to be found.

The wireless internet situation has turned me into something of a nomad. I wander downtown Austin seeking one of three things: free drinks, free food, or free wifi. Obviously there's wifi all over the convention center, but it's packed most of the time so I tend to seek out slightly less crowded places to sit my ass down and write. Today, I'm writing in the Sobe Lizard Lounge enjoying some damn thing or another that has a Sobe drink in it. After this I'm hunting down food. Here's your Monday night TV:
7:00pm: "Inside the Actors Studio" on Bravo. Guest this week is Bradley Cooper.
8:00pm: "The Bachelor" on ABC. 15th season finale. Where some lucky lady will with the ultimate prizes. Not the Bachelor himself, he kinda sucks, I mean the hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of tabloid "exclusives" that she'll be able to give in the next few weeks.

The big entertainment news this weekend that didn't relate to the Oscars, clothing, or James Franco doing his best impression of a Lay's Baked potato chip was that Charlie Sheen has finally accomplished what we all thought was impossible; production has been halted on "Two and a Half Men." I'm sure you've all seen or heard the rant itself, or seen quotes from it placed on photos of adorable kittens which makes everything seem funnier and less like it came from the mouth of an unbalanced man who has probably burned through at least one septum with his coke usage. I'm thrilled because it always baffled me that a country that got up in arms over whether Lea Michele's shirt exposed too much of her sternum on the cover of Cosmo didn't say a word about a known drug abusing, hooker frequenting, girlfriend punching public relations disaster like Mr.

Today is Valentine's Day, which means... next to nothing unless you want it to, really. I remember hearing all about kindly St.Valentine who gave poor girls money anonymously so they could have a dowry and get married but apparently that's a load of shit. Also: has nothing to do with flowers or greeting cards and everything to do with random acts of kindness which is absolutely not one of the messages that has persisted in the face of overpriced dinners and flowers. There are actually 14 recorded Saints called Valentine and not one of them still has a feast day on the Roman Catholic calender or the Greek Orthodox calender. Basically, you can make up anything you want as a "Valentine's day tradition" and no one can prove you wrong. I'm not saying I dislike Valentine's Day, I appreciate any excuse for chocolate and flowers, but I'd appreciate if the...

It's officially a month into 2011 now, so all of us can take a step back and see where we're standing on all those wonderful New Year's resolutions that seemed so noble and important four weeks ago. Well, not me. I didn't make any New Year's resolutions because when you manage to sprain an ankle and break a finger on New Year's Eve, I think that counts as a massive goddamn hint about what the universe has to say about your near future. In my case, what it was mostly saying was that I'd spend the first several weeks of 2011 alternately frustrated and in pain, with a high chance of having a finger that will be stuck at an angle best described as "jaunty." You should all be so lucky. So let's hear how the resolutions are or aren't coming along and in the meantime here's your Monday night TV:

Aftermath with William Shatner (Monday, 10/9c, Bio) As he proved in his Shatner's Raw Nerve series, the future star of $#*! First subject: Bernard Goetz, the so-called "Subway Vigilante" who shot four men he alleged were intending to mug him on a New York subway train in 1984...

I have unnatural love for William Shatner. When he was younger, I found him incredibly hot, and as an older man, he reminds me of my father and I feel all warm and fuzzy when I see him. Yeah, I have some issues, but that's beside the point. Shatner is the man and at 79, he shows no sign of slowing down.
After a simply delectable turn as Denny Crane in "Boston Legal" and his own take on an intimate talk show, ("Shatner's Raw Nerve"), The Shat is moving on to yet another series ("$#*! Shatner's production company will join with Canada's Movie Central to create "The Captains," which will chronicle his early stage career and his overnight stardom as Captain James T. Kirk.

I'm not the only person who loves William Shatner -- Bio Channel does, too, so they're giving him yet another show. Shatner's already got his talk show, Shatner's Raw Nerve, which will begin a third season of thirteen episodes towards the end of this year and now it will be joined by Shatner's Aftermath, which will premiere with six episodes this fall.
Aftermath focuses on the lives of people who became famous overnight, such as Jessica Lynch, Mary Kay Letourneau, the Weaver Family from the 1992 Ruby Ridge Siege, victims of the DC sniper, "Subway Vigilante" Bernhard Goetz and the Unabomber. It doesn't appear that any of these people will actually be interviewed for the series; rather, we'll see archive footage and what are sure to be some awesome re-enactments along with, according to the press release, "Shatner's sharp wit and sense of humor."

I've really been enjoying Shatner's Raw Nerve on the Biography channel. He has great guests, and he's just so Shatnerific with them. On the one hand, you sort of feel like you're listening in on a conversation between old friends. On the other hand, he's so intense that you're afraid he might jump up and start leaping around the room gesturing wildly. Which brings me to ...
The Chair. You know, it's different. But I don't think I really like it. My husband thinks it's called a "lover's chair" or something along those lines, and I can see that. The two people sitting in it are sort of in the perfect position to embrace and kiss. But from what I've seen, most of the guests seem a little uncomfortable with it. I mean, just look at Henry Winkler. He looks really uncomfortable, probably because he's not sure if Shatner might try to embrace him.

It'll be a feast for the eyes for anyone who loves to watch doughy, puffed up, bombastic old men when Rush Limbaugh sits down with William Shatner on the Biography Channel series, Raw Nerve.
Airing this Sunday after taping last summer, the Shatner Vs. Limbaugh clash touches on everything from family background to health care. But the exchange looks like a couple aging members of a country club debating stock tips at the 19th hole.
I have no interest in the inevitable political jibber-jabber headed our way Sunday. But, I'd love to see these two square off over who gets the last piece of lasagna. The fatty grunts alone would blow out your TV speakers.

William Shatner is the king of self promotion and seems to have conquered just about every area of mass media. Next Sunday, the second season of his talk show, Shatner's Raw Nerve, debuts on Bio.
The former Captain Kirk is also known for having a healthy ego and it came out several years ago that he had hurt the feelings of some of his former Star Trek castmates -- in particular Nichelle Nichols, George Takei, Walter Koenig, and the late James Doohan -- while filming the series and the movies. Doohan refused to talk to Shatner in later years and Takei has explained how difficult it was to work with him.

Former Star Trek castmates George Takei and William Shatner's TV showdown is moving ever closer - the chat encounter is under consideration by the network bosses who run Shatner's Raw Nerve programme. The two former co-stars sparked a war of words in 2008 after Shatner claimed he hadn't been invited to Takei's wedding. Takei insisted he had and launched into a tirade about his old Star Trek Captain.
The feud rumbled on with Shatner posting videos criticising Takei online and Takei taking to TV to retaliate - and now the two actors are set to meet on U.S. cable show Raw Nerve, which Shatner hosts.
He says, "There's a process. George has to be vetted like you have to vet a horse that you were gonna buy or a wife you were gonna marry.
"George is being Googled even as we speak. The A&E network needs to okay each name... We want to invite you, George, but now we need A&E's permission.
"Apparently George wants to be (on the show), but then George wants to be everywhere... It's called making a living."
And Shatner insists he won't be rude or nasty to his guest when Takei eventually makes his appearance: "George will wanna come on the show because I'm gonna be so gentle with him (and) I know he likes to be gentled."...

Actor George Takei has laughed off rumours he's considering appearing on former Star Trek co-star William Shatner's new U.S. chatshow Shatner's Raw Nerve, insisting he hasn't even been invited.
The pair has had a strained relationship over the years, and the feud erupted in 2008 when Shatner claimed he'd been left off the guestlist for Takei's September wedding to longterm partner Brad Altman.
Takei fired back, claiming Shatner had been invited to the nuptials - but didn't RSVP or attend the same-sex ceremony.
Shatner then responded in November by posting a rant on YouTube.com, in which he unveiled plans to put an end to the dispute once and for all - by inviting Takei onto his talk show.
But Takei alleges Shatner failed to follow through with his invite plans - even though he'd never agree to appear on the programme anyway.
He says, "But that's not true; Bill hasn't invited me.
"I only heard about the show a few days ago and when I did, I thought to myself, 'Aha! He's trying to create controversy again'. Well, I'm not going to bite the bait!"
Shatner's Raw Nerve features the outspoken actor attempting to unsettle his celebrity guests instead of get along with them.

The question stopped him cold for a moment.
I was talking on the phone with William Shatner, actor, author and professional wiseass about his new autobiography, "Up Till Now," when the elephant in the living room moment had arrived - time to address the death of his late wife, Nerine.
The death that forced him to broker a deal with The National Enquirer to keep them from basically accusing him of murder.
"If the book only had one chapter, which one would it be?" I asked, hoping to ease him into it.
It was, in fairness, a trick question,...

Bio Channel is aggressively expanding its original programming slate with four new series in production, including a Chris Isaak-hosted talk show and William Shatner's previously announced interview series.
Meanwhile, sister channel A&E is planning to broadcast a live episode of "Criss Angel Mindfreak" in the show's upcoming fourth season.
Bob DeBitetto, president and Gm of A&E and BioBio said during the Television Critics Assn. press tour at the Beverly Hilton that it is nearly doubling its original content in primetime compared with summer 2007, when the network rebranded.
"We will continue to focus first and foremost on alluring people and their true stories in a fresh, honest and entertaining voice -- stories you just cannot make up," he said.
The slate, which will be shot in high-def, includes "The Chris Isaak Hour," which the network describes as "Biography" meets "Storytellers." The live performance and interview show, from Scott Sternberg Prods., will feature mainstream musical artists.
Also on the slate is "Shatner's Raw Nerve," an "edgy and offbeat celebrity interview series." "Nerve," also from Sternberg, premieres Aug. 19, with guests to include Shatner's former "Star Trek" co-star Leonard Nimoy, Jon Voight, Jimmy Kimmel, Judge Judy, Jenna Jameson, Kelsey Grammer and Valerie Bertinelli.
The other two new series are police-themed: "Female Forces," from the Greif Co., which follows female officers in a Chicago suburb, and "Why I Ran," from Intuitive, which interviews drivers who have led police on high-speed car chases.
Bio also is bringing "I Survived ..." back for a second season. The show, from Nhnz, interviews people who have survived life-threatening situations.
"Biography" also is returning with new episodes featuring Tyler Perry, Eddie Murphy and Mel Gibson, among others.
Meanwhile, "Mindfreak" has its fourth-season premiere July 23. The hourlong live episode will air a week later and will feature Angel attempting to escape from a six-story building that is loaded with explosives and set to detonate. The episode also will broadcast live on A&E Latin America and Fox 8 in Australia. "Mindfreak" is produced by Angel Prods. and the Firm.
