For centuries, being a woman meant never being able to tell your story. Our lives and our experiences were often narrated by men, filtered through the male gaze in the films we watched or the books we read.
But today, we're fortunate to live in a time where women can more fully express themselves. And when it comes to music, isn't it all just expression? At least that's how Mexican singer-songwriter Julieta Venegas sees it. Her eighth studio album, "Tu Historia," which was released in November of last year, was not only the first album she dropped in seven years, but it was also her way of expressing everything she has felt and experienced in recent years - it's her story, as told by her.

Queens‘ first official rap battle gets nasty and personal real quick. And while we prefer to watch the Nasty Bitches get along, we’ll admit we get a little thrill in this week’s episode when Naomi raps that Brianna should “tell your daughter her mother was more stripper than rapper.” Let’s put aside for a moment the fact that exotic dancing isn’t a shameful profession and focus instead of this: When kids and spouses are fair game, you know it’s going to get ugly.
And at the end of the episode, it really does, albeit in...

FaZe Clan has made history, it says, as the first gaming org to appear on the cover of legacy publication Sports Illustrated.
That said, it’s not the first time that a prominent sports magazine has featured an esports figure on its cover; ESPN nabbed Ninja as its cover star back in 2018.
The Si cover features six of FaZe's members with their faces illuminated by a video game screen: FaZe Nickmercs, FaZe Swagg, FaZe Rug, FaZe Temperrr, FaZe Bronny, and FaZe K1. A profile inside features interviews with co-founder FaZe Banks, CEO Lee Trink, investor Jimmy Iovine, NBA star Ben Simmons (aka FaZe Simmo), and Atlanta FaZe co-owner Paul Hamilton.

Influencer marketing firm ThoughtLeaders is seeking to set itself apart with a keen focus on data.
While the Tel Aviv-headquartered company helps brands plan influencer campaigns and reps creators for sponsorships -- like any standard agency -- it has concurrently developed a data platform called Sponsorship Intelligence (Si). Si serves both of the aforementioned arms of its business, and is vended as a subscription to the industry at large.
“The majority of our revenue comes from the campaigns we run for brands and the creators we work with,” Shoshana Eilon, ThoughtLeaders' VP of innovation, tells Tubefilter. “But our main infrastructure goals and the place we're putting most of our effort is on the data side, because that has so much potential -- though it's also a much bigger project.”
Si tracks thousands of sponsorships across three key content sectors -- YouTube, podcasts, and email newsletters -- using content-scraping and machine learning technology.

We will never turn down an episode that revolves around Zari Tarazi.
Zari was quite literally the star of DC's Legends of Tomorrow Season 6 Episode 3 as she competed on "Da Throne" to take down a futuristic alien.
"The Ex-Factor" smartly unpacked Zari's character, both the facade she puts on for the world and the tender side she only shows to those close to her. And it finally put a label on her relationship with Constantine.
When we first met Zari Tarazi, it was easy to judge her as a stereotypical social media influencer who cares about her image above all else.
But the more we got to know her, the more we sympathized with her and grew to love her.
This episode did all that and more.
...so I'm thinking for the funeral, we need a statement dress. It's his burial, but your red carpet.

It has been another strange and uncertain year for Hollywood, with the pandemic hitting cinemas hard and streaming services rising to hold the fort. It has also been a year in which we’ve seen a growing diversity in front of, and behind the camera, with an increasing focus on new voices and new stories being told.
Last year saw Bong Joon-ho ‘s Parasite achieve Oscar greatness and, for a brief pre-covid moment, it seemed that the world of cinema was beginning to embrace a wider world. The 2021 BAFTAs showed signs this was continuing with Minari, Another Round and Promising Young Woman taking home a clutch of awards each.
This year’s American Academy Awards will be a strange affair, certainly one to remember.
Here is the full list of nominations with Winners in bold.

The 93rd Academy Awards had no host, no masks, no Zoom, and almost no audience.
There’s a lot of things the Oscars weren’t tonight, but lackluster thankfully wasn’t one of them overall.
Hollywood’s biggest night wasn’t exactly the movie unto itself that producers Jesse Collins, Stacey Sher and Steven Soderbergh promised. However, no one took that very seriously, and the resulting relatively fast-paced and deeply personal ceremony actually might have been something more vital – a true Hollywood reinvigoration.
Which is something ABC, AMPAS and the industry itself needed after years of the Academy Awards being on either autopilot or the small-screen equivalent of a ragged hamster wheel at best. The big swing Academy Awards will still likely be the least-watched Oscars ever, or one of the least watched at the very least, which is a real shame.

At last the Academy Awards are here. For a brief time–like about a year ago when the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences pushed the Oscars into April–there was apprehension about whether there would even be enough films in 2020 to qualify as a competitive year. And yet, 2020 (as well as the early months of 2021) has turned out to be a boon for quality, memorable cinema that has been both a cathartic respite and release from the year that was.

It’s truly a measure of the pandemic that the 19th annual Ves Awards (to be held virtually on April 6) was dominated by Disney+’s “The Mandalorian” with 13 nominations (topped by photoreal episode). Like the Oscar shortlist, there was an absence of big budget, VFX-intensive studio films. But, truth be told, Season 2 of Jon Favreau’s engaging “Star Wars” bounty hunter series offered the industry’s most innovative tech (wrapped around Industrial Light & Magic’s improved StageCraft virtual production system).
Pixar’s “Soul” was the top animation contender with five nominations, while the feature competition was split between “Project Power,” the Netflix superhero film, Robert Zemeckis’ “The Witches” (which streamed on HBO Max), and Disney’s live-action “Mulan” (which streamed on Disney+), each garnering three nominations.

After nearly 30 years collaborating with Spike Lee to compose the music on his films, Terence Blanchard’s soaring compositions are finally getting noticed. He got his first Oscar nomination for BlacKkKlansman, a Best Picture nominee which brought Lee his first Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay. And the morning they sat down to discuss the method of their collaboration with Mike Fleming Jr., Lee’s first words to Blanchard were congratulatory, since Da 5 Bloods had just joined the Academy’s Best Score shortlist. The pair have worked together on more than 15 films, including Malcolm X, When the Levees Broke, Jungle Fever, Inside Man and Miracle at St. Anna. Blanchard, who moonlights as a jazz musician in between scoring jobs, has also worked on the Kasi Lemmons-directed Eve’s Bayou, Anthony Hemingway’s Red Tails, executive produced by George Lucas, and the Matthew Rhys-starrer HBO series Perry Mason. Moments ago, the 26th annual Critics Choice Association revealed who and what their nominees are. For this very unique year, there’s of course a very unique slate of nominated films and talent. Scoring the most nominations this time around was David Fincher’s Mank, with Lee Isaac Chung’s Minari not far behind. Showing up for the first time in a clutch spot was Ben Affleck in Best Actor for The Way Back, while Never Rarely Sometimes Always still managed a handful of citations. Cca spread the love, as expected, though undoubtedly it was a strong showing for Netflix. Stay tuned to see how the Critics Choice Awards go down next month… Here now is the list of nominees: Best Picture Da 5 Bloods (Netflix) Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom (Netflix) Mank (Netflix) Minari (A24) News of the World (Universal Pictures) Nomadland (Searchlight Pictures) One Night in Miami (Amazon Studios) Promising Young Woman...

BAFTA has published the longlists for its 2021 Film Awards, which members will now whittle down to the final nominations. You can see the lists in full below, there are 15 per category for most awards, with exceptions.
These aren’t nominations, so drawing too many conclusions from them is premature at this stage. However, if a title didn’t make the cut here, it won’t be getting a nom.
A few takeaways: as per the Globes, Minari is in for foreign-language movie but not for Best Film (Another Round made both); Tenet missed both Best Film and British Film but did make Director and below-the-line categories; Spike Lee isn’t on the Director list, but Da 5 Bloods is on nine including Best Film and Screenplay; Malcolm & Marie missed everything aside from the two lead performances; zilch for On The Rocks, and fairly slim pickings for Apple in total,...

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association has had its say, at least in terms of what it thinks is worthy of consideration for the best in film and television in 2020. Coming later in the year than normal due to Covid-19, it was after Groundhog Day when the full list of Golden Globes nominees was announced. And among them there were some happy surprises… and some significant snubs.
At a glance, the most surprising omission is the absence of Delroy Lindo’s name in the “Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama” category. Lindo, who’s done sterling character work his whole career, enjoyed the performance of a lifetime in the latest Spike Lee joint, Da 5 Bloods. There he played a Vietnam veteran suffering from Ptsd, as well as a growing sense of greed. It was a tour de force, but the rest of the film, it was ignored by the HFPA...

After the tumultuous year, you may feel hard-pressed to be surprised by anything at this point, but the Golden Globes this morning aimed to prove that notion incorrect.
Offering pre-dawn distraction to insomniacs everywhere, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association on Wednesday rolled out nominations for the seemingly semi-virtual February 28 bicoastal ceremony on NBC. Having skipped hosting duties for all of Donald Trump’s reign of terror and error, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are back this year for the fourth time, their first since 2015.
Additionally, the nominations were inevitably going to be more intriguing than usual with the coronavirus pandemic having played havoc with production schedules. Heavyweights like last year’s big winners Succession and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel were subsequently out of the mix.
In that context, and with a minor audio glitch, past Globes winners Sarah Jessica Parker and Taraji P. Henson announced the contenders from their respective homes.
