If you think the premise of Nate Southard’s novel Lights Out – vampires invade a maximum security prison – is little more than an excuse to stage a giant, bloody brawl, it’s a forgivable assumption. Fortunately, Southard had a little more on his mind when he set out to write the book. It’s not “Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption,” mind you, but it’s a far cry from Jason vs. Freddy. How so? Well, for one thing, Southard has stocked the cupboard with a handful of believable, even relatable characters, people that you can root for (or against) when the plasma hits the fan. To be honest, I wasn’t sure he was going to pull this off at first. After a claustrophobic opening which introduces Southard’s version of vampires, the horrific elements slide into the background while we get to know the people who will soon be fighting for their lives.

Oz Episode 1 Season 1 ‘The Routine’
Written by Tom Fontana
Directed by Tom Fontana
Aired July 12, 1997 on HBO
I once was asked to describe the show Oz in terms of other shows that it what I told them was that it was The Wire-in a prison meets Game of Thrones with less subtlety and more full frontal nudity. Going back and watching the pilot a few years after having finished my first run through of the series, I wasn’t far off. Either way Oz was the grittiest, darkest that show HBO had ever produced when it started in the 1996, and since its run ended in 2003 little has come in its wake to take that title away.
The pilot episode of Oz was aptly called “The Routine” and it laid out much of what would make this show memorable. In the words of narrator Augustus Hill (played by Harold Perrineau Jr) “Oz,...

We start with a compare/contrast of Joe's (James 100%PureFoy) and Ryan's (Kevin Bacon) morning routines:
Joe jogs in the idyllic Northeast countryside before picking up the satellite phone to call and taunt a few old enemies.
Ryan wakes up from a cheap vodka bender to the sound of Joe's voice cooing insults in his ear.
Seriously? These guys are made for each other, Jack-Sprat-and-wife style. Can the rest of us go home?
Joe calls out Ryan on his drinking, and Ryan hangs up on him. (Atta girl!) Joe calls back, and tells Ryan that he needs to at least become a functioning alcoholic, because a flat-out drunk for a hero is just a tired cliche. Joe says he's going to win Claire's love back, reminding Ryan that love conquers all. Ryan says, "Now that's a tired cliche."
Speaking of, Claire (Natalie Zea, modeling this season's hottest hostage hood) and...

Question: Any clue who will have replaced Brennan in the lab when Bones returns? —Georgia
Ausiello: Hint — the person is question is, like Brennan, a forensic anthropologist (which should narrow things down considerably). Bonus clue: His initials are C.E.
Question: I think by now everyone knows who Cam’s new/old love interest on Bones is. I am sure you have something not known and more exciting for us. Bonus points if it includes Booth and Brennan.

*full disclosure: an early screening of this movie was provided by Alliance Films.
Directors: James Mather, and Stephen St. Leger.
Writers: Stephen St. Leger, James Mather, and Luc Besson.
Cast: Guy Pearce, Maggie Grace, Peter Stormare and Vincent Regan.
One really cannot help laugh at a hero named Marion Snow (Guy Pearce). It is hard to be a tough guy with such a feminine name. And some of the best lines in Lockout aka Maximum Security 1 come from Snow. However, the choppy edits from directors James Mather and Stephen St. Leger threaten to blow this prison space station out of the sky. This film will trailblaze April 12th in theatres nationally and film fans might want to read more reviews on this film before deciding on whether to see it on the big screen.

Tomorrow I have a choice to make, do I go see The Three Stooges or do I go see Lockout? I don't think there's a question of which one I will like more, but at the same time the buzz I've heard on one of them hasn't exactly been good so it's not as if I am somehow avoiding anything of high quality by going to one over the other. The most frustrating part of it all is how the two screenings have been spread out across the city to the point it is virtually impossible to see both, despite the fact one starts at 5 Pm and the other at 7 Pm. It's almost as if the local publicists are playing with me, dangling a carrot as if to say, "What? It's not like we scheduled them at the exact same time. You could have seen both." Anyway, to help make...

How many times can a movie change names in the course of its life? This, for example, started under the working title of District 8, but in the aftermath of District 9, a name change was in order. Now, depending on where you live, it’s either called Maximum Security One or Lockout and I’m still not sure what will be on the billboards. The only certainty is that it has nothing to do with prawns.

"Revenge" may not be back with new episodes until April 11, the cast and creators of the ABC primetime soap were at the annual PaleyFest event on Sunday to give viewers some juicy details to tide them over until Emily (Emily VanCamp), Nolan (Gabriel Mann) and Victoria (Madeleine Stowe) return to our TV screens.
On of the biggest surprises that the cast and creators teased for the rest of Season 1 is that "Revenge" is going back in time -- but it's not your typical flashback episode.
“The way we’re treating it is that this is an episode of Revenge set in 2002,” explained showrunner Mike Kelley, according to TVLine. “We’re not setting it up like a flashback.”
"Revenge" star Emily VanCamp adds that the episode will give Emily "her first glimpse at these people who destroyed her family, when she’s still not quite believing her father and his journals.

The Luc Besson-produced sci-fi actioner, Lockout, might not currently be on your radar, but it really looks like it should be if it’s not. We saw an awesome new trailer for the film last month, which reunites Besson with Maggie Grace (Taken) alongside Guy Pearce (Memento) in the lead, and things are looking good.
Due out in two months’ time, we now have a new international poster to share with you, and four new images of Pearce and Grace from the film, via Imp Awards and Daily Dead, respectively.
“A man wrongly convicted of conspiracy to commit espionage against the U.S. is offered his freedom if he can rescue the president’s daughter from an outer space prison taken over by violent inmates.”
The film marks the feature directorial debuts of James Mather and Stephen St. Leger, who share screenwriting duties with Besson, produced under Besson’s EuropaCorp banner.

Update: For all your Guy Pearce and Maggie Grace needs, MTV has just debuted an explodey new Lockout poster. It's almost as if the film was out soon or something. Ah yes, April 13...Just before Christmas we saw the international trailer, in which the film was going by the moniker of Ms One: Maximum Security. And now here's the "domestic" trailer, where the title is Lockout. Back when we first reported on its development in February 2010, it was called Section Eight. But whatever the name, it stars Guy Pearce and Maggie Grace, and looks like a blast.Grace is the daughter of president Peter Stormare, who's on some sort of diplomatic visit to a maximum security space prison for dangerous lunatics, orbiting miles above the Earth. Unluckily for her, she's the catalyst for a mass break-out, despite the fortress' whole supposed "impregnable" thing. And the only man who can get her to safety?...

A new poster has hit for the Luc Besson produced Lock Out, or Ms: Maximum Security depending on what part of the world you are, a movie best described as Escape From New York in space. The movie itself looks nuts, with Guy Pearce doing his best to channel the spirit of John McClane, and from looking at the poster you know what to expect. Guns, explosions, damsels in distress, and men who look and act like they were hewn from granite. Pearce plays Snow, a wrongly convicted man who is given a chance at freedom if he infiltrates an outer space prison in the middle of a riot to rescue the president's daughter. The movie also stars Maggie Grace, Joseph Gilgun, and Peter Stormare. The movie is released April 20th. Source: MTV...

New poster for Guy Pearce’s “Lockout”. Yes, “Lockout”. Not “Lock-Out”. Or “Ms One: Maximum Security”. It looks like Luc Besson and company have settled on a final title, and that title is “Lockout”. Anyhoo, check out the latest poster for the sci-fi actioner. Don’t let the recent generic (re: lame) U.S. trailer fool ya. The film looks like a slam-bang good time. International trailer above. Set in the near future, Lockout follows a falsely convicted ex- government agent (Pearce), whose one chance at obtaining freedom lies in the dangerous mission of rescuing the President’s daughter (Grace) from rioting convicts at an outer space maximum security prison. The process by which we were to determine the title of Luc Besson‘s newest actioner (directed by James Mather and Stephen St. Leger) is probably far more complicated than any events that will play out in the actual film. I’ll just get down to it, and list all the names this thing has either been rumored or reported to have in the past: Escape From M.S. One, Ms One: Security Maximum, M.S. One: Maximum Security, Escape From Ms One, Ms One: Maximum Security, and Ms One: Security Maximum
Now, it’s Lockout.
To commemorate the end of our brief, niche nightmare, a new trailer has premiered on IGN — and, as before, it looks like above-average entertainment from the typically subpar Besson factory. If anything does end up elevating Lockout past pulp material — and I don’t entirely see that happening — the preview makes it clear that Guy Pearce is doing so,...

Towards the end of December we caught another trailer for the sci-fi film Escape from M.S. One, but here in the United States the film will be known as Lockout. And now we have another trailer for domestic audiences that brings the action again. The film stars Guy Pearce as a felon hired to go to a Maximum Security space station prison to rescue a girl, Maggie Grace. Guy Pearce hasn't really made the best choices in films lately, but I always look forward to his next project and this looks cool as hell. This could be a return to form for the actor and hopefully a surprisingly good sci-fi flick for 2012. Watch the trailer below! Here's the new domestic trailer for James Mather and Stephen St. Leger's Lockout, via IGN: A man (Pearce) wrongly convicted of conspiracy to commit espionage against the Us is offered freedom if...

Here's an great behind-the-scenes video featurette for a great looking sci-fi film called Ms One: Maximum Security. Not sure when the title was changed, but the movie was at one point called Lock Out. Whatever the title is it looks like a great flick!
The film stars Guy Pearce, Maggie Grace, and Peter Stormare. It was directed by James Mather and Stephen St. Leger, and Pearce's character in the movie is awesome. The video you are about to watch below actually focuses on the character and gives us a little background information.

Ms One: Maximum Security (formerly known as Lock-Out) wasn't on my radar until the first trailer premiered late last year, but now I am totally on-board. The film, which is written and produced by Luc Besson, stars Guy Pearce as a Snake Plissken-esque character named Snow who is assigned to travel to a maximum security prison in space and rescue the president's daughter (Maggie Grace), who has been taken hostage. The previews have featured Pearce in full-on action hero mode, delivering a seemingly endless number of smart-ass lines, and, as a result, the movie looks both incredibly cool and hysterical. Now First Showing has discovered a featurette that goes behind the scenes of the film and takes a long look at what makes Snow tick. I honestly never knew that Pearce had this in him. While I've always seen him as a great actor, this is unlike anything he's ever...

"Were you always this obnoxious?" A new featurette has debuted (via AICN) on the EuropaCorp YouTube for their upcoming sci-fi film M.S. One - Maximum Security, also known by many other titles, including Escape From M.S. One (in the Us) and previously Lock-Out. The video includes interview segments with co-director Stephen St. Leger and focuses on the "badass" character of Snow, played by Guy Pearce. We've seen a few trailers for this before and it looks pretty damn cool already, but this spot gives us a look at just how insanely Snake Plissken-esque Pearce is. It also stars Maggie Grace & Peter Stormare. Enjoy! Watch the new featurette for Escape From M.S. One, or M.S. EuropaCorp has released a new making-of featurette for their upcoming sci-fi actioner “Lock-Out” that centers on the Snow character. Snow, in case you were wondering, is the name of Guy Pearce’s uber badass character in the Luc Besson-produced movie (going under the rather mundane title “Ms One: Maximum Security” for you International types), and in this featurette, co-writer/co-director Stephen St. Leger tells us just how badass Snow really is. In a word: he’s pretty badass. A man wrongly convicted of conspiracy to commit espionage against the U.S. is offered his freedom if he can rescue the president’s daughter from an outer space prison taken over by violent inmates. Co-starring Maggie Grace, Peter Stormare, Lennie James, Vincent Regan, Tim Plester, and Anne-Solenne Hatte. Snow does his thing April 20, 2012. New maps, skins, and Prestige-style functionality coming to the next chunk of Gears Dlc.
Of all of the major releases from the past three months, I think Gears of War 3 has been getting some of the most consistent support—which it kind of needs given its not great performance in the Xbox Live rankings. While it hung on in the top 5 for the first couple of weeks after its release, the game has experienced a precipitous drop since as Modern Warfare 3, Skyrim, and the like have crowded the top spots.
That doesn't mean no one is playing Gears, it just means everyone is spending a lot more time playing other stuff that isn't Gears. Anyway, it'll be great if the Fenix Rising Map Pack and the updates included in it might help the game.
