Oscar winning director David Fincher has some criticisms for Marvel Studios and the McU regarding their style of filmmaking. He feels that the McU should adopt a new style that is “thoughtful, adult, interesting, complex, and challenging”
The McU superhero films are no doubt popular, but they have their detractors. One of those is BAFTA and Academy Award nominee David Fincher (Se7en, Panic Room, Zodiac, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, The Social Netowrk, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, Gone Girl). While speaking about his new Netflix series Mindhunter in a conversation posted by Yellow King Film Boy, Fincher talks about what he feels are limitations in the McU approach.
“Look, there’s a very large talent pool of people who are--don’t feel there’s much for them in terms of sustenance working for Marvel.” He suggests Marvel should use a more Netflix-style approach, (using his new show...

When Ivanka Trump asked Cecile Richards for a private meeting earlier this year, the Planned Parenthood president’s hopes won out over her deep differences
with the White House this First Daughter represented.
“Like her father, she knew Planned Parenthood did a lot of good. I felt she was incredibly sympathetic,” Richards recalls of that early-winter sit-down over coffee. “I hoped she would use her influence and her role to speak up for women in this country. But it’s not about talk. It’s about action.”

Los Angeles – With the flourish of trumpets in “The Bullfighter’s Song,” a pugnacious man would strut on stage and launch a volley of hilarious insults on some unsuspecting targets. That act was Don Rickles, whose show business nicknames included “The King of Zing,” “The Merchant of Venom” and the magnificently ironic “Mr. Warmth.” Rickles died in Los Angeles on April 6th, 2017. He was 90.
In his early career, Rickles was a throwback to the cocktail and burlesque joints of the 1950s and ‘60s, where a burgeoning stand up comic would do anything to engage the audience and keep a gig. With a quick wit and rat-a-tat delivery, Rickles developed a persona that would keep him working virtually all the way to the end. He went from the “Rat Pack” era, through comedy roasts of the 1970s, to the voice of Mr. Potato Head in the “Toy Story” series, and never...

Someday, when you least expect it, you’ll hear someone singing the praises of Sleepless. Not now, but once it inevitably enters syndication rotations on TBS or Fxx. That’s where this dad-thriller is destined to find glory – playing in the background during chores or between naps. In a theater, Baran bo Odar’s darkened kidnapping thriller charges forward like a billion other Taken wannabes before it. But without investment or attentive demand? You can come in-and-out of this Sleepless Night remake without being weighed down by the heavy generics that plod with sluggish commitment. That’s not meant to be a backhanded compliment, just a realistic assessment and expectation-setter.

One episode was provided prior to broadcast.
Depending on your capacity for saccharine sappiness, NBC’s new family drama This Is Us will either completely gut you, or lose you in an overabundance of self-pitying monologues – “how did I get here?” appears to be the show’s thesis statement – and cloying sentimentality. There’s a risk to introducing such deeply rich emotional stakes into a show so early on, and This Is Us only comes out with a handful of rewards for taking it.
That being said, the show is also maybe one of the most immediately promising so far this fall season. Creator Dan Fogelman proves his knack for twisty, interconnected stories, and while the meat of the first hour can feel choppy and inconsistent, his full-eyed vision for a long-form version of Crazy, Stupid, Love (which he wrote) comes into crisp vision by pilot’s end. There’s hope for This Is Us.

Halt and Catch Fire, AMC’s smart, slick series about the fledgling computer industry of the 1980s, is California dreamin’. Joe, Cameron, Gordon, and Donna have all left Texas’ Silicon Prairie for Silicon Valley. “It gets out of the garage very quickly and we’re in the big leagues now,” series star Lee Pace tells HitFix of Halt’s new season debuting later this month. Halt and Catch Fire (which takes its name from an early computer command) started off with salesman/visionary Joe MacMillan’s race to compete with Ibm’s personal computer. Season 2 shifted its focus to online gaming. Now Halt and Catch Fire is going into its third season, which is longer than either of Pace’s previous television shows lasted. His team-ups with Bryan Fuller, Pushing Daisies and Wonderfalls, were canceled before their time, in the former case cutting short Pace’s endearing, Emmy-nominated role as the pie-maker Ned.

It looks like after months of Homer Simpson undecided about who to vote for, he is throwing his endorsement behind Hillary Clinton – well sort of. In a new “The Simpsons” clip titled “3 a.m.” Marge and Homer wrestle with their voting choice for this election.
When the two lovebirds are in bed, Marge tells Homer that she can’t make love to him until she has decided who to vote for. When they turn on the TV they watch an ad comparing the candidates’ reaction to handling a red-phone crisis at 3 in the morning. The commercial is a spoof of the pro-Clinton Super Pac commercial, which was released a couple weeks ago.

In Clinton’s situation, Bill answers the phone only to hand it over to her as she wakes up and says, “Yes, from now on it’s always for me.

The phrase “it’s an honor just to be nominated” is so well-used it’s become an idiom for exactly the opposite — people recite it when they’re pissed they didn’t win. But many Hollywood stars, writers and executives are suggesting that “it’s an honor just to be considered” this Emmy season – and this time, they mean it.
In case you’ve somehow avoided the onslaught of coverage provided by this and most entertainment sites over the past few months, the Emmys are fast approaching. Nominations, in fact, will be announced this Thursday at 8:30am Pacific time, rewarding a select group of programs that the 19,000-plus TV Academy members deem worthy. The fight to be on the short list is fierce, but the fight to be included in the conversation is equally important, even to select series that know they won’t make the cut.

It’s emerging from the darkness…the ghastly, horrible, revolting…Copyright Monster!
Okay, that’s enough of that. Now: Springboard for a 22 page Superhero Story!
Birdman is in torment. For over 75 years he’s been fighting crime, swinging from rooftops, crashing through windows, escaping from death traps. He has vanquished foe after foe: the list is long and formidable – Prankster, Macaroni, Captain Conundrum … Demonface! And countless others. Time after time he has delivered them to the authorities, and time after time he has seen them escape to resume their careers of evil. It is enough to frustrate a saint.
Demonface is worst of all. He considers his mission to be saving the Earth by eliminating its human population, which, he feels, is destroying the environment. Five years ago, Birdman sent Demonface to prison only to see the villain released for lack of evidence. Lack of evidence? Come on! Demonface, who...

It's hard to find an adjective that hasn't already been applied to Freddie Mercury's voice. So, now we've turned to science for help. Well, not quite. But the late singer's inimitable voice was the subject of a study by a team of Austrian, Czech and Swedish authors who set out to analyze Mercury's voice from archived recordings to figure out exactly what made it so memorable. What did they discover? Well, first of all, they cast doubt on a commonly-recited fact: that Mercury had a four-octave singing voice. "This could not be substantiated by the study," the abstract reads,...

We salute Terry Brain and Charlie Mills, creators of 1980s children’s stop-motion animated TV series, The Trap Door…
Somewhere in the dark and nasty regions where nobody goes stands an ancient castle. Deep within this dank and uninviting place lives Berk, overworked servant of The Thing Upstairs. But that’s nothing compared to the horrors that lurk beneath the trap door. For there is always something down there, in the dark, waiting to come out…
What was under the trap door? In 1986, a three inch stack of film reel cans forming a makeshift plinth for whatever Plasticine monster was due to spill out of it in that episode. Over the course of forty mini-episodes in the mid-eighties, a legion of skittering demons and tentacled beasts slithered off those reel cans and into the psychedelic polka-dotted castle dungeons where they caused havoc for servant Berk and his disembodied skull companion Boni.
