Tagline: "Roll them bones." Knucklebones is an indie horror feature from director and writer Mitch Wilson. The film has recently been completed. And, Knucklebones stars Julin (Spirit Camp), Cameron Deane Stewart and Justin Arnold. In the film, a demon is released from its hellish bounds, through a game of chance. A trailer for this title was released just over a month ago. Horror fans might have missed the clip as this critic did. The full trailer is listed below. The film's story is influenced by the slasher genre. A group of friends come together for a night of fun. They draw a pentagram and perform a ritual, from an ancient legend. Unfortunately, their prank turns to reality when a demon is summoned. This killer takes no prisoners, only body parts. The first trailer for Knucklebones is a chilling one. It shows the principal characters, environments and the demon. This dark...

Writer-director Kyle Day uses certain narrative aspects of rape revenge thrillers as a guideline, but Cherry Bomb breaks away from the less politically correct tropes. First of all, even though Cherry (Julin Jean) is a stripper, we never see her naked. Additionally, the brutality against Cherry is strongly implied but never shown -- we do, however, see much of Cherry’s violence towards the men. There is never any doubt about what happened to Cherry, it is just that Day sees no reason to fetishize the violence. Most importantly, Day allows Cherry to mature and grow as a character as the film progresses.

Director: Kyle Day Starring: Julin Jean, Nick Manning, John Rodriguez, Allen Hackley, Jeremy James Douglas Norton, Denise Williamson So, I guess you are probably wondering why Dave shares the screen with a room full of [half-]naked ladies, huh? Well, the titular Cherry (Julin Jean) is an exotic dancer at the Pussy Hut. (And, yes, Dave's scene takes place inside the Pussy Hut.) Late one night, Cherry enters a private room to dance for a few of the club's wealthiest clients; but then the guys pay the bouncer to leave the room, in order to take full advantage of Cherry. Next thing Cherry knows, she is waking up in a hospital, horribly bruised. Because of her assailants' influence with the local law enforcement, they are able to avoid arrest. Once Cherry discovers that her aggressors will not be punished, she vows to kill them off one by one. Cherry's brother Brandon (John Rodriguez) joins her cause,...

Kyle Day’s first feature, Cherry Bomb, plays as an homage to the gritty and sexy grindhouse and sexplotation flicks of the early 1980s. The film’s protagonist, Cherry (Julin Jean), is an exotic dancer who is attacked by a group of men in the strip club where she works. When the hospitalized Cherry learns that her assailants have avoided arrest, she vows to kill them all and let god sort them out. Thanks to an impressive trailer that spread like wildfire throughout the blogosphere, Well Go USA Entertainment took notice and snagged the rights to release the Austin-filmed Cherry Bomb on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital. To celebrate the film’s official home video release on July 10, The Show! Austin is screening Cherry Bomb at the Alamo Drafthouse Slaughter Lane. *full disclosure: a DVD screener of this film was provided by director Kyle Day. Director: Kyle Day. Writer: Garrett Hargrove. Cast: Julin, Nick Manning, Denise Williamson, John Gabriel Rodriguez, and Allen Hackley. Tagline: "Don't light her fuse." Cherry Bomb joins a long list of rape revenge thrillers. From The Last House on the Left to I Spit on Your Grave, from Baise Moi to Irreversible, there have been dozens of entries in this genre. Director Kyle Day's first entry into this prolific category is stylized and reminiscent of John Carpenter's visual and auditory style such as Assault on Precinct 13 (1976). Day's directing style is more over-the-top compared to Carpenter; this is also an exploitation film after all. In the end, Cherry Bomb is an enjoyable ride with gunfire and violence overruling the nudity and sexuality. The story of the film focuses on the "Pussy Hut." This is a strip club where Cherry,...

There have been many films created about a legendary monster spotted in and around Texarkana. The creature has been called the Fourke Monster, but here the hairy villain will be known more simply as bigfoot or the Sasquatch. There have been at least three other Boggy Creek films beginning in 1972 and this reviewer admits to not seeing any of the previous films (The Legend of Boggy Creek, Return to Boggy Creek). Boggy Creek, starring Texas Battle ("Death Valley"), Melissa Carnell (Humans Versus Zombies), Julin (Sweatshop) and Denise Williamson (Spirit Camp), in a very under the radar release in this series as Hannover House did not promote the September 13th release on DVD at all. The lack of tension in a supposed horror movie explains why there was little fan fare.

Texas has a storied film heritage. Over the years, the Lone Star State has given the world a wide range of cinematic talent, including directors as diverse as Tobe Hooper, Richard Linklater, Wes Anderson, Tex Avery, Terrence Malick and Robert Rodriguez.
Today, the state's filmmaking legacy continues to thrive. The film communities in Austin, Dallas and Houston are full of committed industry professionals who — despite the seeming best efforts of certain political players — are flourishing, making movies of all shapes and sizes. I know this to be true because, having spent the past few days at SplatterFest, I've seen the evidence.

This reviewer has seen far too many B movies. Right out of the starting gate this critic guessed the film's location, budget and formula within about ten minutes, based on the cast and some other info' on this film. These guesses were all correct. However, writers Stacy Davidson and Ted Geoghegan get very little right in their small budgeted film (less than 15K). There is no backstory to a murdering serial killer and his cave dwelling followers, Swearing is used in place of dialogue, while dancing scenes highlight the film's lack of depth. There is very little in the way of script and the characters are all despicable, for one reason or another. Sweatshop fails on so many film elements. However, some of the effects from Marcus Koch brought the film some horrific class, despite the Sweatshop's many flaws.

In Sweatshop, Charlie and her friends break into an abandoned warehouse to set up the biggest rave they've ever thrown. Spirit Camp cutie Julin Jean goes to the swamps to battle some ugly monsters in Boggy Creek. Coming to DVD this September, this may or may not be a remake of the 1972 film The Legend of Boggy Creek.

The new millenium has initiated the terribly tragic demise of some of the most influential deranged deviants in the history of horror films. A plethora of wimpy Jason Voorhees and Michael Meyers wannabes has submerged the slasher sub-genre in a swampy, leech-infested lake leaving me with no other choice but to accept the inevitable: my once immortal horror heroes have sadly been plagued with mortality by much tamer modern day manifestations of the macabre. Independent writer/director and owner & founder of production company Kerosene Films, Kerry Beyer takes a playful stab at re-inventing and ultimately redefining some of the greatest monumental machete-wielding maniacs ever to slash their ways through horror history.

There is a horror/thriller that will be released in late summer/early fall of 2011 entitled The Toy Box. Director Michael Colburn will bring us his vision of the brutal and horrific events based on the true story that involved at least 60 murders by this serial killer. Mr. Colburn and actress Shannon Lark both share the behind the scenes story and the intense moments in making this film and bringing it to life. Read on as they share their feelings of this film, the impact it'll have on other victims of similar crimes, how important the message is and on a slightly lighter note how I begged to be cast in the sequel. Mr. Colburn was gracious enough to share these images with all of us First so check them out throughout the interview and enjoy! This is their story behind The Toy Box.

One film we've been hearing about for quite a while now is Texas-based filmmaker Stacy Davidson's Sweatshop, and in advance of its two market screenings at Cannes 2010's Le Marché du Film, the producers have released an online international trailer and some striking foreign sales art that accentuates the film's darker aspects.
Said producers are Bloodline Entertainment and Odyssee Pictures, in association with Starving Kappa Pictures and Upstart Filmworks, and the flick is represented internationally by New York-based Screen Media Ventures LLC.
Sweatshop (review here) was written by Davidson and Ted Geoghegan. The Houston-lensed film stars Ashley Kay, Peyton Wetzel, Julin, and Danielle Jones. The picture pits a group of unsuspecting ravers against an unstoppable monster wielding an over-sized foundry hammer.

If there's anybody out in the indie world that sends us updates on their projects more often than the multi-talented Phil Nichols, I don't know who it is. Today he sent over a new batch of stills from Vampire Diaries Renfield, but best of all, they include the first shot of one of the creatures Nichols' Facades FX is doing for the film.
Phil, who, along with portraying Renfield, also wrote the screenplay, tells us, "Week 6 has wrapped. We did a lot of flying FX and aerial fight work on green screen for the climax. These pictures are from the Harkers' lair and all the naughty goings on that will happen in there..."
