Christian gospel star Mandisa was honored on Monday’s episode of American Idol with a special performance by former contestants Colton Dixon, Danny Gokey, and Melinda Doolittle.
The trio, all dressed in white, sang Mary Mary’s 2000 hit “Shackles (Praise You)” in remembrance of the beloved singer. “I’ve known her for over 20 years,” Doolittle said following the tribute. “We started off singing background and sessions together and then she got on Idol and I cheered for her. Three longtime members of the American Idol family returned on Monday to honor one of their own — Season 5 contestant Mandisa, who died on April 18 at age 47.
Colton Dixon (Season 11), Melinda Doolittle (Season 6) and Danny Gokey took the stage for an emotional group performance of Mary Mary’s “Shackles,” a song Mandisa covered when she was in Season 5’s Top 10 back in March 2006.

American Idol paid tribute to the late Mandisa, the late Season 5 contestant who died earlier this month at the age of 47.
To honor Mandisa’s life, Idol alum Colton Dixon, Melinda Doolittle, and Danny Gokey returned to the stage and performed “Shackles” by Mary Mary.
Mandisa sang “Shackles” as a contestant on American Idol, saying back in 2006 that the song meant a lot to her “because it’s a testimony that there’s nothing too hard for God.”
At the end of the performance, the trio shared some words about Mandisa.
“I’ve known her for over twenty years,” Doolittle said. “We started off singing background in sessions together. And then she got on Idol, and I cheered for her, and I came the next season, and she cheered for me. That is my girl through and through.”
Gokey said that Mandisa “was a fan of people,” adding, “She was...

Anyone who has seen "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire" — and going by the film's impressive box-office numbers, that oughta be most of you out there — knows that Dan Stevens is an absolute delight in it. To be fair, this isn't a huge surprise, as anyone who's been following Stevens' on-screen career knows that the actor is routinely a highlight of everything he appears in, whether he's the lead in something like FX's "Legion" and "GxK" director Adam Wingard's "The Guest" or (and sometimes especially) when he's appearing as a supporting character in films like "Colossal" or this month's "Abigail."
His role of Trapper in "GxK" seems particularly special, however, given that Stevens isn't merely playing a comic relief character. Instead, he's some unique combination of a wonder-filled adventurer, an animal-loving veterinarian, and a laid-back hippie dude. That's just one way of describing Trapper, however — Stevens himself has...

Those who fought in World War II are considered the Greatest Generation. And executive producers Tom Hanks, Steven Spielberg and Gary Goetzman paid homage to these young men who risked life and limb during the global conflict in their award-winning 2001 HBO series “Band of Brothers” and 2010’s “The Pacific.” And now they’ve taken to the not-so-friendly skies in their latest World War II series, Apple TV +’s “Masters of the Air.”
Created by John Shiban and John Orloff, “Masters of the Air” is based on the 2007 book: “Masters of the Air: America’s Bomber Boys Who Fought the War Against Nazi Germany,” the series starring Austin Butler focuses on the 8th Air Force’s 100th Bomb Group stationed in England. Many credit Disney’s Haunted Mansion, as well as the mainstreaming of the horror genre and the increasing commodification of Halloween, for creating the modern haunted house industry. And yet, the movies based on the ride will leave you with the same question: Does Disney even understand its most popular attraction?
The Haunted Mansion is essentially a “ghoul tour,” dating back to the 19th century–to Madame Tussaud’s gruesomely guillotined aristocrats and the exaggerated torture porn found onstage in the Grand Guignol. The public has always–and will always–pay good money to be frightened out of their wits. Walt Disney, a consummate showman, knew this from the birth of his career; Mickey Mouse followed his 1928 debut in Steamboat Willie with a trio of horror shorts: the creepy Haunted House, (1929), The Mad Doctor (a Frankenstein spin-off) and The Gorilla Mystery (no less than a Disney Murders of Rue Morgue...

This post contains spoilers for "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3."
There's a lot going on in the Marvel Cinematic Universe's 32nd film, "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3." Between animal cruelty, kids in cages, grotesque biomechanical creatures, a beheading, a peeled face, and one anti-climactic f-bomb ("Open the f***ing door!"), it's arguably too much. Writer-director James Gunn's belated trilogy ender is all over the place, both tonally and narratively, and it's easy to lose track of what's happening or why, even if you come into it with the best intentions and are still invested in the MCU as it chugs along in Phase Five.
It's been six years since "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2," and while the Guardians have remained active on the big screen in other films, moviegoers who missed "The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special" on Disney+ may be confused by the presence...

To the mission tower once more!
Paramount Pictures has acquired rights to remake “Vertigo,” the James Stewart and Kim Novak-led Alfred Hitchcock psychological thriller that is considered by many critics to be the greatest film of all time.
The project is being developed by Team Downey, Robert Downey Jr.’s production company, and Steven Knight, the British writer-director-producer behind “Peaky Blinders” is attached to write. Knight also just landed a deal to bring “Star Wars” back to theaters after Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson exited the franchise. Trade reports suggest that this is likely being packaged as a vehicle for Downey to star in.

"My Fair Lady" is a 1964 movie musical based on the 1956 Lerner and Loewe stage musical of the same name, which is in turned based on the 1913 stage play "Pygmalion" which, in its own turn, is based on Greek mythology. Sure, that trail ends with Hollywood, but Broadway is up to exact same shenanigans when it comes to remakes and reboots. Although the story of "My Fair Lady" is significantly altered from the original mythos, the core relationship between creator and creation is unchanged. Well, it's now about British high society and not about a sculptor and a sculpture anymore. Close enough, right?
Anyway, the 1964 film stars the one and only Audrey Hepburn as Eliza Doolittle, the titular fair lady. Co-starring as professor Henry Higgins, the titular claimant of possessing a "fair lady," is Rex Harrison, who also played the role opposite Julie Andrews in the original Broadway production. In “Licorice Pizza,” a teenage boy perpetually chasing after new business schemes falls for a 20-something woman who’s not quite sure where she’s heading, but is up for the ride.
Together, Gary Valentine (Cooper Hoffman) and Alana Kane (Valley native Alana Haim) travel around Los Angeles’ San Fernando Valley by car, truck and on foot. Their ventures into showbiz and local politics have them cross paths with a cast of vibrant characters, including a belligerent hairdresser and motorcycle-riding movie star.
Gary and Alana’s indelible bond and the series of events that transpire make “Licorice Pizza” an enjoyable watch. But the film promises an extra element of nostalgic joy for those who grew up in the Valley or during the 1970s (or both). Several of the events, people and places represented in the story are modeled on reality.

End Of The Road is a festival that keeps its promises. The cultured leftfield shindig – where croquet tournaments break out in forest glades and peacocks roam the trimmed lawns of Dorset’s Larmer Tree Gardens, unbothered by the experimental folk, rock, rap and electronic tomfoolery floating across the site – has been promising a weekend headlined by indie giants Pixies and Bright Eyes since 2020. Covid scuppered that event, and post-pandemic travel issues forced the 2021 bill to become more UK-based. But this year, Eotr puts its music where its mouth is at last, with plenty more curveballs thrown in to keep this crowd of discerning alternative music fans pleasingly off-balance.
The opening Thursday night bill is a brain-rattling case in point. On the main Woods Stage, LA’s Sudan Archives sets out to invent jig-hop, interspersing psychosexual ambient raps with ruined snippets of Irish folk played on the fiddle she brandishes throughout.

Animals have a wonderful ability to aide humans in being the best versions of themselves. They can help a shy child come out of their shell or give companionship to an elderly person. Animals teach us about the world, provide transportation, guard us and so much more. Animals seem to possess a universal wisdom on a deeper level than people in this crazy world. Or as Doctor Doolittle once said ″But I like animals better than the best people.” It is natural then that every child at some point wants to be a veterinarian. They dream of spending their days

There’s an old saying in Hollywood: You haven’t truly lived until Richard E. Grant causes you to bend over in laughter by pointing out his — and your — physical shortcomings.
At least, that’s what happened when the Oscar-nominated character actor — from 2018’s “Can You Ever Forgive Me?” to 2001’s “Gosford Park” to 1987’s “Withnail & I” — spoke with Variety about his scene-stealing turn on last week’s episode of the Marvel Studios series “Loki.” The penultimate episode of the season finds Tom Hiddleston’s titular god of mischief trapped in the Void, a limbo plane of existence that plays home to dozens of other variant Lokis who’ve been pruned by the Time Variance Authority. And now the 93rd Annual Oscars are finished. Another one for the records books, it is now history. But how to quench your thirst for a bit more Hollywood history? Here’s the perfect refresher. It’s a warm, interview and clip-filled look back at one of the motion picture industry’s greatest producers. As a matter of fact (and it’s hammered home here) he was the head (or close to) of four of the major studio. Oh, and he’s still with us, offering his sage advice and counsel to filmmakers and stars. So we’re not talking about the cigar-chomping Golden Age studio moguls who are usually vilified in the non-fiction books and films (The biggest villain of Mank may be the ruthless and controlling Louis Mayer). No, this is about a man whose influence may have ushered in, maybe not a silver, but a bronze age,...

Sia’s Music, Robert Downey Jr.’s Dolittle, and the Netflix movie 365 Days are among the maligned films to receive multiple nominations for the 2021 Golden Raspberry Awards, a.k.a. the Razzies, the annual celebration of Hollywood’s worst films and performances.

The annual Golden Raspberry Awards, given to the year’s least best movies, unveiled their nominations Friday, with the Robert Downey Jr remake Dolittle, Sia’s Music, Mr Pillow Mike Lindell’s stolen-election documentary Absolute Proof and Rudy Giuliani’s cameo in Borat Subsequent Moviefilm the most panned by the group.
The Razzies also awarded a “Special Governors’ Trophy” to the year 2020 as “The Worst Calendar Year Ever.”
Other projects that drew Razzie attention were the reimagined Fantasy Island movie and the Netflix comedies Hubie Halloween and The Wrong Missy, as well as the Polish erotic drama 365 Days.
Cats was the runaway winner last year with six Razzies.

Although Disney Plus was initially dismissed by many as merely a digital alternative to owning home releases of the animated classics, its swiftly growing library of content has allowed it to become one of the premiere streaming services currently available. Now, a trailer has arrived to preview the highlights of the new movies and TV shows to be added throughout January, and you can check it out up above.
Films newly available this month include Mary Poppins Returns, a sequel to the beloved ‘60s classic that sees the magical super nanny reappear to the Banks children as adults when she’s most needed, to save them from the spiral of hopelessness and despair into which they’ve fallen.
Epic, meanwhile, is a CG animated story where a teenage girl visits her reclusive scientist father, only to be shrunk down to tiny size after being entrusted by the dying Queen of...

After the rip-roaring, fabric-of-time-and-space-tearing, explosively exciting, and terminally serious Star Trek: Discovery Season 2 finale, Star Trek: Discovery Season 3 Episode 1 was strangely slow and surprisingly humorous.
Yes, it begins with a mysterious somebody living a perfectly Westworld sort of daily routine.
Yes, we also get a space chase with a couple of less-mysterious-but-still-unknown people, butting heads (and bulkheads) over a stolen cargo.
But then the rest of the journey to the credits is a long -- but beautiful -- unfurling of a heck of a lot of exposition.
Time travel's tricky. Ask anyone.
So the fact that the new Red Angel suit isn't able to precisely deliver on the planned journey to Terralysium isn't surprising.
And to bring Burnham and Discovery through to the same point in time? Nah, no one was betting on that either.
It's a super-cool story. It's just that it's in a completely devastating way.
Burnham Permalink: It's a super-cool story.

Netflix has several notable original movies going up this month and this Friday delivers one of them. It’s a major horror effort from a filmmaker new to the genre that’s been one of the streaming giant’s most-anticipated releases all year. Yes, we’re talking about Charlie Kaufman’s I’m Thinking of Ending Things, which makes its debut on Netflix tomorrow.
Written and directed by Kaufman, the psychological horror is based on the novel of the same name by Iain Reid, and stars Jessie Buckley (Doolittle) opposite Jesse Plemons (Breaking Bad), Toni Collette (Knives Out) and David Thewlis (Wonder Woman). Brie Larson was initially attached to lead, before the Captain Marvel actress dropped out and Buckley was hired.
Here’s the official synopsis for the film:
“Despite second thoughts about their relationship, a young woman takes a road trip with her new boyfriend to his family farm. Trapped...

Today (April 4th) marks the 55th birthday of the Hollywood legend that is Mr. Robert Downey Jr. The actor’s been a major name in the business for decades, earning himself an Oscar nomination back in 1992 for Chaplin, but as we all know, his portrayal of Tony Stark in the McU is what lifted him to a phenomenal level of fame and acclaim.
He officially vacated the role of Iron Man, at least on a regular basis, in last year’s Avengers: Endgame, but all the birthday messages that Marvel fans have been sharing on social media today make clear that his contribution to the franchise will never be forgotten.
To begin with, fan artist Boss Logic shared this awesome piece to commemorate Downey’s big day.

Iron Man sacrificed himself to stop Thanos in Avengers: Endgame, bringing the Infinity Saga to a close. Likewise, Tony Stark himself, Robert Downey Jr., believes he’s concluded his part in the never-ending war against supervillainy that goes on in the McU. In other words, the actor is playing down the chances that he could return to the franchise in the near future.
While speaking with Parade to promote his latest movie, Doolittle, Downey Jr. was inevitably asked if he could return to the Marvel universe, with the actor picking a phrase that seems to allude to Tony’s passing in Endgame.
“The war for me is over. I personally have alighted to greener pastures.”

The first decade of the McU came to a close with last year’s Avengers: Endgame, with the whole Infinity Saga reaching full circle as Iron Man sacrificed his life to save the universe and stop Thanos. As the franchise only became the success it is today thanks to 2008’s Iron Man movie ending up a smash hit, writing Tony Stark out in this way was the right decision, even though fans weren’t ready to say goodbye. But this being the Marvel universe, it’s not impossible that the Armored Avenger could return later down the line. Even Robert Downey Jr. thinks it could happen.
In an interview with Extra alongside his wife Susan to promote Doolittle, the ever-present question of whether he could reprise his role as Iron Man at some point came up. The star answered fairly casually at first, commenting: “Yeah, anything could happen. I’m really enjoying…...

As country singers go, Crystal Gayle has long been a sparkling diamond in a rhinestone world. While the singer’s recently released You Don’t Know Me beautifully showcases her elegant, middle-of-the-road vocal delivery — a quality that led her to become one of the most successful crossover artists of the late Seventies — the record also pays homage to Gayle’s deep, abiding connection to vintage country music.
