Getting up to leave as soon as the end credits start: is that a bad thing?
The recent piece on this site about 'credit offset' brings up an important issue that has been the cause of some heated debate among my friends and dearly beloved recently: should cinema audiences stay put for the end credits of a movie? Should people stay in their seats while anything up to 10 minutes of credits sweep by, or should people get themselves up and vacate the cinema so that the hard-working cinema employees can sweep up their rubbish in time for the next showing?
Now, being a Wittertainee and a cinephile, I am anticipating a stream of irate responses along the lines of “Of Course cinema audiences should stay put for the credits! How is this even a question?!”
There are two main reasons for cinema fans’ passionate advocacy for staying in your seats.

Tis the season to be...well informed. We all love Christmas, but how much do any of us actually know about why Christmas is the way it is? Here are 31 facts about Christmas trees, Santa Claus, and Rudolph that you (probably) didn’t know. Smarten up! 1. Christmas supposedly marks the birth of Jesus Christ on December 25. But there is no mention of December 25 in the Bible and most historians actually believe he was born in the spring. 2. December 25 was probably chosen because it coincided with the ancient pagan festival Saturnalia, which celebrated the agricultural god Saturn with partying, gambling, and gift-giving. 3. Many of the popular Christmas traditions today found their roots in Saturnalia: Branches from evergreen trees were used during winter solstice as a reminder of the green plants that would grow in spring when the sun gods grew strong. 4. These evergreen branches became the foundation of our Christmas tree. Germans are thought...

The FIFA football franchise has come a long way since its origins in the early 90s. Like any other distinguished game series, it has certainly had its ups and downs with a need to constantly innovate to stand out. It is hard for a series which comes out every year to significantly differentiate itself from each previous year’s title other than updating teams to reflect the Summer transfer window or promotions but it’s clear, however, that with FIFA 18 there has been a definite improvement and it’s the little details that improve the overall experience.

Bored with massive films and special effects? Then here are 10 smaller movies well worth your consideration...
It's that time of year when we usually give you a list of films playing in cinemas during August, as the summer blockbuster season winds down, that will help cleanse your palate after all the tentpoles and sequels that have proliferated throughout the year so far. But to be honest, this summer has been so good to us, we're more refreshed than usual.
Even aside from originals like Edgar Wright's Baby Driver and Christopher Nolan's Dunkirk, this year's blockbusters have been of an unusually high standard. Wonder Woman pulled the Dceu out of its critical nosedive, War For The Planet Of The Apes is a gorgeous and emotional conclusion to the reboot trilogy, Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 and Spider-Man: Homecoming proved that Marvel's ever expanding continuity is still going strong.

Now that the opening segment of “Baby Driver” is available to watch online, the geographically astute folks at Vox have done the inevitable: mapped out the car chase in its entirety. Propelled by the eponymous getaway driver’s (Ansel Elgort) red Subaru and taking place in Atlanta, the three-and-a-half-minute sequence may now be thought of as a testament to the power of Google Maps.

When it comes to fast food, candy, technology, soda, anything that’s become a massive brad there’s always some kind of “secret sauce” that’s kept under lock and key. That secret sauce is the reason a product is so useful, a soda tasting so amazing, and why the success of the company is as big as it is. Think about things like the recipe to Coca Cola, or the recipe for McDonald’s french fries. Or how about the endless number of patents a company like Apple has? Companies like to keep their secrets under wraps and for good reason. If they

The ad, which was pulled less than 24 hours after its initial release, featured Jenner joining a large group of young protesters, resulting in a police standoff that could only be deescalated by — wait for it — the power of Pepsi. (Yes, really.)

As Hollywood royalty, Carrie Fisher may not have needed to be prolific, witty, and endearing, but she was all of that and then some.
The daughter of singer Eddie Fisher and actress Debbie Reynolds, Fisher was born into the industry. She made her onscreen debut in 1975's Shampoo, but it was her role as Princess Leia in 1977's Star Wars IV -- A New Hope that shot her to overnight fame.
Fisher -- who died at age 60 on Tuesday, four days after going into cardiac arrest aboard an airplane -- was more than just an actress, however. She was also a successful writer, penning many books including the semi-autobiographical novel Postcards from the Edge in 1987 and its subsequent screenplay; an autobiographical one-woman play and its nonfiction book, 2008's Wishful Drinking; and her most recent memoir, The Princess Diarist, released this year. On Easter Sunday in 1993, inmates at a maximum-security correctional facility in Lucasville, Ohio, grabbed control for 11 days, making it the longest prison siege in U.S. history. Rioters took eight prison guards hostage, one of whom was killed – along with nine inmates.
Netflix’s new documentary series “Captive,” from filmmakers Simon and Jonathan Chinn and Doug Liman, kicks off its eight-episode first season by recounting the harrowing events behind that riot, interviewing both inmates and guards involved with the hostage stand-off. But unlike Netflix’s “Making a Murderer,” which premiered during the holiday season in 2014, “Captive” follows a new story every episode. Later hours include the story of a kidnapped Brazilian-American woman who ran her family’s Coca-Cola bottling plant.

We’re big movie fans, obviously, and one of our favourite parts about going to the theatre is getting snacks from the concession counter.
The treat is just a little sweeter right now at Cineplex theatres, because we have three national promotions going on right now. That means not just getting popcorn, candy and a drink, but you can also own a special Doctor Strange or Trolls collectible cup and topper, or a Coca Cola Santa Claus Christmas ornament!
Ending December 6th, with the purchase of any large drink (or by upgrading the combo’s drink to a large size), for an extra $2.99, you can get a collectible Doctor Strange cup and your choice of two different Doctor Strange toppers!

From the heartbreaking but brilliant Rang De Basanti, to the wonderful Delhi 6, to the inspiring Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra has brought Indian cinema some of its greatest films.
With his film Mirzya, he has now turned his focus on the Punjabi folk tale Mirza-Sahiban, but presenting it in a unique way. Interweaving the legendary folklore with a contemporary version, this musical brings out the story of a love that will never die. Joining him in transforming this story is the esteemed writer and poet Gulzar. Adding to the worlds of Mirzya is music by the great Shankar, Ehsaan and Loy.
Mirzya introduces Harshvardhan Kapoor and Saiyami Kher, along with Anuj Chaudhary. Also bringing the story to life are the screen masters, Om Puri, Art Malik, and K. K. Raina.
Some of my absolute favorite interviews to conduct are with directors because they just love talking about their movies.

In case you haven’t had your fill of “Stranger Things” content, the “Late Show with Stephen Colbert” has you covered. Last night’s episode contained a parody of the popular Netflix series featuring Stephen Colbert as Matthew Modine’s Hawkins laboratory scientist character Dr. Martin Brenner and Millie Bobby Brown playing her character Eleven. In the sketch, Colbert orders Eleven to heat up a burrito in the microwave and levitate it over to the table. “But why, Poppa?” she asks. “Because sometimes you’re hungry and you don’t feel like getting up,” he responds. Then he makes Eleven make a crushed Coca Cola can dance. Watch the sketch below, as well as Colbert’s interview with Brown where she discusses her fears.

Selena Gomez has overtaken Justin Bieber to have the most liked picture in Instagram's history.
The 23-year-old singer has a staggering 89.1 million followers on the social media site, who do their utmost to show their love for Selena in any way possible.
That determination has ensured a snap of Selena wearing a red top while staring sultrily at the camera garnered four million likes on Instagram - overtaking her ex Justin, who previously had the most liked snap on the site with a throwback picture of him and Selena kissing.
Selena posted her sexy snap two weeks ago, along with the caption: "When your lyrics are on the bottle." In the picture she is seen holding a Coke bottle which features words from her song Me & the Rhythm after she signed up for Coca Cola's Share a Coke and a Song campaign.

Eat That Question: Frank Zappa In His Own Words takes its title from a song found on the composer’s 1972 fusion album The Grand Wazoo, and there may be no better preparation for the Frank Zappa revealed in director Thorston Schutte’s extraordinary documentary than this command to consume, and then presumably digest and defecate out, the sort of journalistic queries Zappa routinely endured, with patience, smarts and inescapable sarcasm, throughout his career. “Being interviewed is one of the most abnormal things that you can do to somebody,” Zappa explains during a TV interview to a reporter whose expression, an uneasy mixture of intimidation and confusion, remains constant throughout their encounter.
The composer’s testy relationship with the media is one of the threads that unites Schutte’s somewhat unusual approach—there are none of the usual associates, scholars and friends on hand to tell you secondhand (at best) what a genius Zappa was,...

Talent agency Wme is adding to its roster of digital stars, signing musician Jon Cozart, budding actress Andrea Russett, and quirky family vlog squad the Eh Bee Family.
Cozart, who recently dropped a scathing musical account of the YouTube landscape in 2016, blends pop culture and current affairs as a so-called “info-tainer,” according to Wme. His Paint channel counts 3.4 million subscribers and 267 million views.
Russett, who starred opposite Cameron Dallas in 2014’s Expelled (which was the second most-downloaded movie on iTunes that year), also appears in this summer’s Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates, starring Zac Efron and Adam DeVine. In addition to partnering with top brands on her channel like Netflix, At&T, Pizza Hut, and Coca Cola, Russett is also an avid supporter of The Thirst Project, which aims to provide communities around the world with safe drinking water.

Even superheroes crave a little Coca Cola every now and then! In this case, it's a can of Coke Mini—the latest iteration of the bubbly, brown beverage that scored airtime during a Super Bowl 50 commercial break. The ad initially pins Marvel's Ant-Man and The Hulk against each other, as the smaller of the two heroes simply assumes he can swipe Dr. Bruce Banner's only remaining can from his lab. "Hey Bruce, you don't mind if I just take this last Coke, do ya? Thanks, bye!" Ant-Man exclaims as he leaps from the high-rise building with Mini Coke in tow. Well of course he can't, as The Hulk embarks on an epic chase to track down...

Characters from the movie will be featured on all of their cans, which will include codes that take fans to tie-in comic books online that are set before the events of the highly anticipated release.
Featuring mostly pretty familiar shots of the main cast members, the one which really stands out in the gallery above is the latest shot of Wonder Woman. While she’s been heavily featured in the trailers, we haven’t seen all that many photos of the Amazonian warrior by herself, but she does look downright awesome here.

Just when you thought Avicii couldn’t get any Avicii-er, the Swedish superstar DJ/producer has managed to discard any semblance of street cred he might still have had. As part of an ad campaign with Coca Cola, he teamed up with vocalist Conrad Sewell on “Taste The Feeling,” which has to be the most repulsively generic piece of music on which either artist will ever put their name.
Honestly, though, “Taste The Feeling?” Really? Upon the release of his sophomore album, Stories, it was already apparent that Avicii’s “creative process” had devolved into little more than an attempt to appeal to as many pop culture demographics as possible, but the track is nothing more than an entirely soulless commercial jingle.
In all seriousness, I can’t help but wonder if Coca Cola simply paid for the rights to use his name on a track that simply originated in a board meeting.

It’s that time of year again: the tinsel is on the tree, we’re all fretting what the hell to buy our loved ones and Paul McCartney’s cheesy festive classic Wonderful Christmastime is playing literally everywhere.
Some people love – nay thrive on – this time of year and from the moment the Christmas season officially starts in early November they can usually be found sporting jaunty Santa hats and maniacal grins while asking inane questions like ‘Have you finished your Christmas shopping yet?’. No, we bloody haven’t. Christmas shopping should be done in terror at the last minute – it’s traditional.
But for those who can’t magically switch on the festive feels at the first sign of Coca Cola’s ‘Holidays Are Coming’ advert around the end of August, this time of year can be a decidedly ‘bah humbug’ affair. That sickly, sweet, all-encompassing Christmas cheer,...

Coca Cola are going to be sponsoring WWE, both for Tribute To The Troops and the Slammys Raw.
Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that WWE have been wanting this for decades. Coca Cola is a giant, sponsoring such massive mainstream events as the FIFA World Cup and the Olympics.
The coup for WWE is proof that bad Raw ratings aren’t impacting the perception of the wrestling brand. The company has managed to get over the idea that they are hot.
It should also be noted that NBC Universal has worked hard to change the advertising industry’s perception of WWE. In 2016 there will be five hours prime time WWE on USA Network each week. That financial stake is why NBC Universal helped get new sponsors on board, and landing Coca Cola is a sign that the effort paid off.

You don’t have to look hard to find a creepy side to Christmas. There’s the whole idea that Father Christmas is making a list of naughty boys and girls, who’ll be punished rather than treated on December 25th; there are those weird elves that parents are meant to put up on shelves to keep an eye on their kids; and, well, there’s Carol Of The Bells, which is most sinister piece of supposedly festive music ever written. Horror films haven’t been slow to pick up on it either and this year, to add to an already fairly long list of Yuletide horrors (Black Christmas, Silent Night Deadly Night, Saint, Santa’s Slay…) there’s Krampus.

The world of professional wrestling is a strange one indeed. Not many industries have an undisputed industry leader in terms of size and reputation. Indeed, not many industries are as terrifyingly dominated as pro graps is. Coca Cola is one of the biggest companies in the world, but when it comes to fizzy drinks people are also aware of Pepsi and others. When it comes to wrestling and the majority of the mainstream, WWE is wrestling.
It would add up that the goal of any (Western) professional wrestler would be to make it to the WWE. Many heralded independent stalwarts have made it with great success, especially over the last few years, but WWE can also end up moving careers squarely towards the mud, where incredible performers get bogged down in McMahon’s self-defeating booking and general schlong-waving.

Despite the many classic titles that came to the console, Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2 may just be my favorite Xbox 360 release. I remember booting it up for the first time back in the summer of 2008, and years later, I remember wasting hours playing it in college. The simplistic, but addicting gameplay would soon serve as a template for several other developers to try their hand at the genre. Although many have failed in their bid to unseat the king, that didn’t stop Brushfire Games from trying with their latest effort, Polychromatic.
A traditional top-down, twin-stick shooter, Polychromatic focuses more on the bare essentials than some of its competitors. Players are in control of a tiny, colorful ship, and tasked with blowing up other tiny, colorful ships. Controls are predictably simple. One analog stick moves the ship, while the other analog stick shoots. Other components of the ship include a devastating bomb,...

On the movie’s opening weekend, Ronald Reagan was president, Queen was raising money to fight famine at the Live Aid concert, and Coca Cola was trying to backpedal away from New Coke as fast as possible. In other words, "Beyond Thunderdome" was a creature of the eighties, which makes it all the more impressive that "Mad Max: Fury Road" managed to bring the franchise back to life this year without looking dated. Sublimating the "Mad Max" series for a modern audience was no easy feat. But Miller kept alive the freakish, carnivalesque qualities of the original while...

Cliff Martinez is hard at work on the score for "The Knick" season 2 for Steven Soderbergh, is mulling music for Nicolas Winding-Refn's "The Neon Demon" and has at least seen the script for Harmony Korine's next "The Trap," which is perhaps his next firm gig. Those names have been, erm, instrumental to Martinez' rise as an in-demand composer (though for some reason he just can't seem to hold down those outside, one-off commercial projects, dang it). Weaving organic, odd instruments in with electronic sources, the musician/writer has found natural creative companions in equally odd, forward-thinking and intuitive directors. Martinez has been in these pages before, after massaging a cold, macabre and grand score out of bloodlusty "Only God Forgives." His electronic soundtrack for Cinemax period drama "The Knick" is so gorgeous, the tracks stand boldly on their own. Below is an abridged version of my interview with Martinez,...

The Sterling-Cooper dream team has died and gone to advertising heaven. Jim Hobart enunciates the name “Coca Cola” like he’s asking Don and the other partners how they enjoyed their simultaneous touchless orgasms, but in reality he’s stealing their name, tossing probably half their employees out into the street, and consigning them to serve out in drudgery the four-year contracts they signed when McCann bought their agency.
