New Yorker Liam Malone thought that counting heads would be an easy (and well-paying) gig, but he gets in over his head with supernatural entities and mythological creatures when he realizes he's unwittingly joined the Otherworld Census Bureau in the new comic book series Census. With the first issue of Census now available to read digitally as a Comixology Original, we caught up with co-writers Marc Bernardin and Adam Freeman to discuss their new comic book series, including setting the story in New York City, working with artist Sebastián Piriz, and finding that perfect blend of horror and comedy in Liam's unpredictable journey as a supernatural census taker.
You can read our full Q&a with Marc and Adam below, and we also have preview pages from the first issue of Census, which also includes lettering by Bernardo Brice and was edited by Sarah Litt!

The long wait for Rat in the Kitchen is almost over.
The highly anticipated TBS reality series debuts on Thursday, March 31, at 9 pm Et.
In the premiere episode, “The Case of The Fishy Sauce,” co-hosts Chef Ludo Lefebvre and comedian Natasha Leggero welcome six new chefs to compete for a shot at $50,0000 in this culinary whodunnit.
Will a fishy faux pas be enough for the rat to avoid being identified and scurry home with the dough?
TBS describes the series as "far more than a cooking show hosted by iconic roasting queen and comedian Natasha Leggero and celebrity chef Ludo Lefebvre, is a game of high stakes cat and mouse where viewers get to play detective."
Over the course of the 10-episode season, a mix of professional chefs and passionate home cooks compete in a series of creative cooking challenges, earning cash in their bank for every dish that impresses Chef Ludo,...

A handful of crew of TBS’ upcoming cooking competition series Rat In The Kitchen have gone on strike over healthcare benefits.
The series, which is produced by ITV America’s Thinkfactory Media, has been shooting in Atlanta, Georgia, but certain members of the IATSE crew downed tools this week.
They say that they are not being provided healthcare benefits. Crew stood down on Thursday saying that producers have been “unresponsive” for requests for recognition. It’s thought that the crew is a mix of ITV America staff and folk from the Warner-owned studio complex.
We understand that around 10% of staff are striking but production is continuing.
The series, which is based on a buzzy British format, is fronted by Natasha Leggero. The ten-part series, which also features celebrity chef Ludo Lefebvre as a judge, follows a group of cooks competing to win a cash prize across a series of challenges.

I like this comic book less and less the more that I read it. With each issue, Genius scales back in quality and realism. Part of that is due to the current political backdrop in the United States, and how the comic tries to comment on a current events, but fails. More importantly, this critic is just having trouble believing in the story since the motivations within feel thin.
Reginald Grey is piecing together who exactly Destiny Ajaye is and why she is declaring war on the city. The governor, unable to tap the National Guard to deal with Destiny, orders the police to hold off and avoid any direct confrontation for the time being. Meanwhile, Destiny’s men hang back, while the journalist we saw before goes to Destiny in search of answers.

War against the Lapd has begun. At this point in the series, there’s a bit of a credibility gap in the story, as we only poorly understand the motivations for the gangbangers as well as for Destiny. This could be fixed with a few issues explaining some context and backstory, but as it stands, the action thus far is pretty hard to buy into.
The main police analyst doesn’t have much to do in this issue, instead learning a bit more about Destiny and fruitlessly trying to stop his comrades from getting killed. Destiny leaks videos of residents of South Central discussing the brutality they experience in a viral video campaign, which then leaks into news media. Destiny’s troops lead the cops in a protracted gun battle, luring them deeper and deeper into the neighborhood.

Genius is, at its core, a tale of revenge. A lot of kids grow up around a militarized, hostile police force and get lost in the system, and many of those kids grow up angry and potentially violent. This comic wants to show what would happen if one of those kids happened to be on an intellectual par with Hannibal or Alexander the Great.
Destiny Ajaye is a genius at what she does, which is a form of insurgent warfare directed against the Lapd. She has effectively united all of the gangs in Los Angeles under her control after spending years as one of the leader’s girlfriends, using that time to study all of the key players. The Hub Network's kid-friendly frightfest "Spooksville" is heading into its spine-tingling mid-season finale on December 21st so before it takes off for the year, we sat down with three of its young stars, Katie Douglas, Nick Purcha, and Keean Johnson, for a Q&A.
Katie Douglas - "Sally Wilcox"
Q: What kind of response have you gotten from the show so far?
A: On social networking Sally’s quite a hit with the younger girls I noticed. They like her wardrobe, and the show is actually number two on the Hub Network, which is absolutely amazing.
Q: So tell me a little bit about what you thought when you first heard about the show, about doing something scary like this.
A: When I first heard about the audition, I read the description that it used to be a book so I looked everywhere for print copies, but I actually didn’t get to find it.

Great Britain's rowers participated in a Henley Regatta with a twist yesterday (July 7), signing up to form the Monsters University Rowing Team.

Zac Purchase, Mark Hunter, Chris Bartley and Adam Freeman-Pask were enlisted by James Cracknell to race against Oxford University Lightweight Rowing Club.

The big news in comics today is the massive reboot going on over at DC. Jim Lee and Geoff Johns' "Justice League" #1 went on sale all over the country to kick it off, and the two of them have been touring New York City on the signing circuit to promote it. Lee even tweeted some photographic evidence.

Beyoncé and the new "Hunger Games" sneak peek attracted more responses than any other moments among comics tweeters last night at the MTV Video Music Awards. Writers and artists alike immediately put their imaginations to use predicting what motherhood will be like for the pop star.
In the meantime, Ben Templesmith seems to have discovered that the announcer from "The Hunger Games," Claudius Templesmith, shares a name with him. His response and reactions to Lady Gaga's performance and the return of "Doctor Who" ranked atop our favorite tweets of the last 24 hours.

I actually went light on the Steve Jobs retweets today. By now everyone knows the news about him resigning as Apple's CEO. However, you may have missed a few of the zingers that got tossed around the feed this morning and last night.
In other subjects, the art was strong with the last day's worth of tweeting. Ben Templesmith claims a Batman sketch he posted was painted in beer, which in addition to the fact that it's a Ben Templesmith Batman sketch makes the piece mighty rad. Check out a link to the big picture and Robert Kirkman's love for the CGI Yoda replacement that's coming to the new "Star Wars: Episode I" Blu-ray discs. It's all in the highlight reel below.

The crowd-drawing power of "The Smurfs" proved powerful enough to tie "Cowboys and Aliens" over the weekend. The little blue guys also beat out "Captain America: The First Avenger" in terms of box office receipts, which seemed to impress writer Javier Grillo-Marxuach.
Marvel's patriotic hero continued to get a lot of attention in weekend tweeting, though, as did Harry Potter. Both of those guys, "True Blood" and a pitch for an all-new Showtime series made this morning's highlight reel.

Following my post about the wrenching premiere of “Gene Simmons Family Jewels” (A&E, Tuesdays at 10 p.m. Est), executive producers Adam Freeman and Adam Reed contacted HitFix to give their first interview since the episode aired. Some people have posted comments stating that they absolutely believe what they saw in...

Wildstorm's superhero series "The Authority" has passed through several prominent writers' hands in the past, including Warren Ellis, Mark Millar and Grant Morrison, but the latest writing duo of Marc Bernardin and Adam Freeman might be facing the greatest challenge of them all: taking "The Authority" home.
Bernardin spoke with MTV News about his upcoming run on "The Authority" with Freeman, revealing that the basic premise of the upcoming story arc focuses on the superhero team dealing with the fallout of the "World's End" storyline that involved the Authority's massive spaceship, The Carrier, crashing into the middle of London. Given that cataclysmic aftermath, there is literally nowhere left for the Authority to go but up.
