Dhaakad
Starring Kangana Ranaut, Arjun Rampal, Divya Dutta, Saswata Chatterjee
Directed by Razneesh Ghai
Don’t let those pouty reviews about no-substance-all-style discourage you. Dhaakad is a killer of an actioner. Its fights are so furious I could feel the bone crunching and the teeth smashing against righteously aggressive fists of fury.
And besides what substance did Hum ….Aapke Hain Koun boast of? Not that I am comparing the two. But Dhaakad too relies almost entirely on treatment and execution. And kudos to debut director Razneesh Ghai for making the violence look so dirgefully dynamic; the bloodshed feels like a blizzard of remorse showered on an unrepentant conscience.
Gory? Yes! Violent? Of course! We live in a violent world where an eye for an eye is not enough. It’s more like a limb for an eye. Seeing Kangana in the killer mode is reward enough for all the time...

The Kangana Ranaut-starrer spy thriller Dhaakad will release theatrically on October 1, the actress announced on Monday with a poster of the film.
In the poster, Kangana is seen wielding a sword against the backdrop of blood and gore, setting the action tone of the film. Kangana, who will play the role of Agent Agni, recently flew to Bhopal to kickstart the shooting of the film.
"'Dhaakad' is India's first female led high octane spy thriller and I am excited as this film is going to mark the beginning of a new era for Indian cinema. An action entertainer of this huge scale deserves a holiday weekend release and I can't wait for the audience to meet Agent Agni on 1st October," Kangana shared.
Director Razy Ghai added, "'Dhaakad' is a project that is very special to my heart.

The Bollywood spy flick gets more ambitious this year, with a couple of top superstars signing up roles in the genre. Akshay Kumar, Kangana Ranaut and Sidharth Malhotra will give the Bollywood spy thriller new-age twist on big screen, even as Manoj Bajpayee continues with his escapades in the Ott space with The Family Man 2.
While the Hollywood hangover is still evident on Hindi espionage thrillers when it comes to form and execution, the new-age Bollywood spy banks heavily on pop patriotism for his mojo when it comes to content.
A list of some of the most awaited films in the genre.

Vincenzo Natali raises complex moral questions in this thriller about genetic engineering
Back in 1954 the Austrian social thinker Robert Jungk wrote a bestselling futurological study, the title of which, Tomorrow is Already Here, predicted the way science fact would be constantly breathing down the neck of science fiction as the 20th century proceeded. Something like this has been experienced during the long gestation of Splice, the third feature film by the Canadian writer-director Vincenzo Natali. Natali made his name in 1997 with Cube, an ingenious low-budget thriller set entirely within a maze of interlocking boxes from which a disparate group of prisoners attempt to escape. This allegory about bureaucracy and the human condition, clearly indebted to Poe, Kafka and Borges, was followed in 2003 by Cypher, a clever paranoid conspiracy thriller also set in the near future that anticipated Christopher Nolan's Inception. It starred Jeremy Northam as an anonymous brainwashed accountant...

Jean-Pierre Jeunet was born on September 3, 1953 in Roanne, France. His career in cinema began with making short animated films with his creative partner, Marc Caro. Jeunet and Caro’s mind-blowing feature-length debut was Delicatessen (1991). The duo went on to create the magnificently imaginative The City of Lost Children (1995) which opened the 1995 Cannes Film Festival. 20th Century Fox then entrusted Jeunet with the direction of their fourth Alien film – Alien: Resurrection (1997) – which also marked Jeunet’s separation from Caro. Jeunet’s solo directing career continued with his most successful film to date and the film that best represents his unbridled love for cinema – Amelie (2001). His next pairing with Amelie star Audrey Tautou – A Very Long Engagement (2004) – didn’t fare quite as well in the box office but it was still critically appreciated. And now Jeunet has created the fantastical world of Micmacs (2010)… Jeunet is one of my favorite directors of the...

Director: Vincenzo Natali Writers: Vincenzo Natali, Doug Taylor, Antoinette Terry Bryant Starring: Adrien Brody, Sarah Polley, Delphine Chanéac Clive Nicoli (Adrien Brody) and Elsa Kast (Sarah Polley) are rock star scientists with serious god complexes who splice and dice the DNA of various animal species to genetically engineer unique hybrid beings. Their first major success story -- earning them the front cover of Wired -- occurs with the creation of two non-descript slimy blobs named Ginger and Fred. The sugar daddy for Clive and Elsa’s Dr. Frankenstein experiments is Newstead Pharmaceuticals. The towering black skyscrapers (one of countless references to David Cronenberg’s oeuvre) lend the pharma corporation a menacing and mysterious aura -- though they purport to be solely interested in saving humankind from disease, we know that they are only in it for the money. The logical next evolutionary step in Clive and Elsa’s research is...

"Splice" is a surprising sci-fi movie that raises more unsettling issues than you'd expect — it keeps raising new ones past the point where you'd think the filmmakers would have run out of them.
The picture seems like a simple Frankenstein tale at the outset. Clive (Adrien Brody) and Elsa (Sarah Polley) are two hotshot genetic engineers (and lovers) who've earned their reputations by splicing animal DNA to create strange new creatures to produce new proteins that can be patented for medical use. But when they approach the pharmaceutical company that funds their work with a proposal to add human DNA into the mix, the company, fearing public outrage, forbids them to do it. So Clive and Elsa decide to secretly create a human-animal hybrid on their own.
The Frankenstein template is frankly acknowledged by...
