‘Star Trek’: Leonard Nimoy & William Shatner Had a ‘Very Challenging’ Relationship, Nimoy’s Son Says
Leonard Nimoy and William Shatner — two actors who boldly went where no man had gone before as James Kirk and Spock on the 1960s TV series Star Trek — had a “very challenging relationship,” according to Nimoy’s son, Adam. “It’s unfortunate, it’s sad, but it is what it is,” Adam, author of the book The Most Human: Reconciling with My Father, Leonard Nimoy, told Page Six. “I love Bill, but I can say, I will say, that they had a very challenging relationship themselves.” Paramount/Everett Collection Adam said that he knows why his father and Shatner feuded — and intends to “let sleeping dogs lie” — but also pointed out that there was a period when the two Star Trek actors were “really beautifully … together.” During that time, Leonard told Adam and his other child, Julie Nimoy, that Shatner was his best friend. “Julie and I were scratching our heads,...

Chris Hemsworth is an actor of great caliber. Having made his movie debut with Star Trek, he played the role of George Kirk, the father of Chris Pine’s James Kirk. Soon after, he moved to the MCU, where he has been playing the role of Thor for the last 13 years.

Synopsis: As an intimate portrait of William Shatner’s personal journey across nine decades of a boldly lived and fully realized life, William Shatner: You Can Call Me Bill strips away all the masks he has worn during his storied career to reveal the man behind it all.
Review: William Shatner is a legendary actor better known for his iconic performance as Captain James T. Kirk in the original Star Trek television series and films. He holds a unique place in Hollywood history. A fan favorite for over sixty years with a career on stage and screen as a writer and singer, and having traveled to space, Shatner’s legacy has built him a dedicated fanbase worldwide. Captain's Log: Stardate 2024. It's been eight years since the USS Enterprise's last voyage on the big screen, with the franchise having since returned to its roots on television. During that period, the property has proliferated thanks to an influx of streaming series that's included everything from a "Next Generation" reunion to a raunchy cartoon and a wonderfully silly musical episode. But through it all, the question has lingered: when will Trekkies get to undertake another mission painted on the largest canvas available?
It's not been for lack of effort on Paramount's part. Ever since the commercial disappointment of 2016's "Star Trek Beyond" brought the escapades of the Kelvin Universe film series to a halt, the studio has cycled through one filmmaker after another in its quest to get "Star Trek" up and running in theaters once more. I watch a lot of movies, but even ones that stab at my heart rarely make me tear up. "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan" is, to quote Hayley Williams of Paramore, the only exception.
Spock (Leonard Nimoy) dies to save the Enterprise and his comrades, taking a lethal dose of radiation when giving the ship's engine a boost. He passes on after a final conversation with his best friend James Kirk (William Shatner). It's fair to say Nimoy was a better actor than Shatner, yet it's the latter who affects me most here. From the way his voice trembles as he yells Spock's name to the quiet heartbreak across his face as he watches his friend's final moments of pain, it's the most empathic acting I've ever seen from Shatner.
So, there's a part of me that will always resent the next film, "Star Trek III: The Search for Spock,...

As Star Trek fans, we may quibble about certain aspects of the franchise. We all have our opinions about the best captain or the general ethos of the show. But we can all agree on one thing: Star Trek is about boldly going where no one has gone before. It’s right there at the start of the show!
And yet, for whatever reason, Trek producers seem obsessed with going backwards, excavating the years before the adventures of Kirk and Spock on The Original Series. First we got Star Trek: Enterprise in 2001, then the J.J. Abrams reboot in 2009, then Discovery in 2017, and again with the spin-off Strange New Worlds. In fact, until Discovery jumped ahead 900 years at the end of the second season, the franchise had not moved the timeline past 2002’s Star Trek: Nemesis.

Deadline reports that Paramount is developing another new Star Trek movie. They’ve tapped Star Wars: Andor director Toby Haynes to helm the project, with Seth Grahame-Smith writing the script and J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot producing.
Plot details are being kept under wraps, but Deadline hears that this is another prequel that will take place decades before the events of the 2009 Star Trek movie. The long-awaited Star Trek 4 with the Abrams crew is still in active development, with Deadline referring to it as the “final chapter” of the main series.

Say what you will about the "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds" musical episode (and people have certainly said a lot), but whether you loved "Subspace Rhapsody" or thought it missed the mark, it's hard to deny the emotional truth of the experimental hour. Whether we were listening to budding comms officer Uhura (Celia Rose Gooding) singing about the loss that's underscored her career or witnessing Nurse Chapel (Jess Bush) tell Spock (Ethan Peck) she's eager to leave for her big research fellowship, the tunes of "Subspace Rhapsody" allowed us to overhear the innermost thoughts of the Enterprise crew in true musical tradition.
Musical episodes always tend towards campiness, and while I think "Strange New Worlds" was mostly saved from as much by its undercurrent of earnest emotion, the episode still allows for some purposely silly concepts -- like when the Klingons suddenly start singing a K-pop-style boy band number. In an interview with TrekMovie.

In an alternate timeline somewhere, the U.S.S. Enterprise is being run under the guiding force of Timothy Olyphant's Captain Kirk. That's right: in a recent appearance on the "Happy Sad Confused" podcast (via Variety), the "Justified: City Primeval" star revealed that he was actually considered for a spot in the captain's chair for J.J. Abrams' "Star Trek" films, but his age may have been a deciding factor in the final call.
"I believe it was one of those things where it's like, they might have been prepared to hire me, but they wanted somebody younger and [Abrams] was having a hard time finding somebody younger," the actor explained to podcast host Josh Horowitz. Ultimately, of course, the filmmaker went with Chris Pine, an actor whose biggest roles to date at the time included a turn as a love interest in the "Princess Diaries" sequel and a...

The Strange New Worlds finale, “Hegemony,” dropped a lot of big dramatic events, from a Gorn invasion to Pike having to choose between his orders and his duty to his crew in a devastating cliffhanger that has us hoping the AMPTP will immediately fold and concede to all demands so we can get season 3 into production Asap. But among all of those twist and turns, we also saw the beginnings of one of the greatest love stories Star Trek has ever known.
No, we don’t mean Spock and Nurse Chapel. Or Pike and Batel. We don’t even mean Kirk and Spock, or my personal favorite, Picard and Q. We are taking about the timeless, enduring love story of a simple, salt-of-the-earth lad from Aberdeen, and a big, beautiful, tritanium-alloy lady named Enterprise.

This post contains spoilers for the latest episode of "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds."
22 years ago, "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" made the musical episode blueprint. Before and since then, announcements about one-off episodes of much-loved series set in musical reality have elicited eye rolls, but "Buffy" got it pretty perfect. With "Once More, With Feeling," the show not only delivered extremely catchy tunes, but also genuine emotion; instead of making its plot superfluous, episode writer and series creator Joss Whedon decided to do the exact opposite. This hour was a chance for big moments to unfold and revelations to come to light -- breakups, fights, guilty admissions, and even swooning, old Hollywood-style kisses all play out via song. If you skipped the "Buffy" musical episode, you would have no idea what was going on the next week.

There has never been Trek like Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 2 Episode 9, and there may never be again, which would be a galactic shame.
Ever since Paramount+ released the news at San Diego Comic-Con 2023 that the penultimate offering of the season would be a musical, the fanbase has been split between the canonical stick-in-the-warp-core gatekeepers and those who embrace all that Trek can be.
Haters can just jettison their vitriol now. This is the biggest swing the series -- nay, the franchise -- has ever taken, and they blast it so far out there they probably broke temporal protocols.
It was always meant to be.
Ever since Una confessed her love of Gilbert & Sullivan to Spock on Star Trek: Short Treks Season 2 Episode 1, treating him to a performance of the "Major-General's Song" from The Pirates of Penzance, we've itched to know what Spock would sing, given the chance.

Yes, "Star Trek" can be silly sometimes. One might recall the original series episode "Shore Leave" wherein the crew of the Enterprise saw their thoughts and fantasies -- including knights and anthropomorphic white rabbits and samurai -- manifested in android form. Then there's the "Next Generation" episode "QPid" wherein the Enterprise-d crew were magically transformed into characters from Robin Hood. There's also the "Deep Space Nine" episode "If Wishes Were Horses" wherein the DS9 crew unwittingly manifested characters out of their brains, like Rumpelstiltskin and ultra-horny doppelgängers of their co-workers. And then we have the "Voyager" episode "Bride of Chaotica!" wherein the Voyager crew re-enacted a 1950s sci-fi serial, complete with cheesy special effects and black-and-white photography.
These "wacky" comedy episodes, while not always necessarily funny, tend to serve an important function in "Star Trek." Specifically, they break up the monotony. Both the viewers and the makers of the show...

Captain Pike, Spock and Number One are dusting off their singing pipes on “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds”.
Season 2 of the Paramount+ series will feature the “Star Trek” franchise’s first musical episode, it was announced Saturday at San Diego Comic-Con. The episode, titled “Subspace Rhapsody,” will air as the ninth hour in the current season and be available to stream beginning Aug. 3 on Paramount+.
The episode will feature 10 original songs, as well as a special version of the series’ main titles, with music and lyrics by Kay Hanley (“Letters to Cleo”) and Tom Polce.
As part of the announcement, Paramount+ released the first teaser trailer for the upcoming musical instalment, which features the USS Enterprise crew singing and dancing in elaborate numbers — and also finding themselves entangled in very interesting relationship moments.

Technically speaking, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 2 episode “Lost in Translation” is a Uhura-focused hour, which grapples with issues of loss, empathy, and miscommunication all wrapped up in rescuing a heretofore undiscovered alien species from being unnecessarily harmed by Starfleet mining equipment. But it’s also something else, too: The first episode in which Star Trek fans really get to meet the Strange New Worlds version of the franchise’s most iconic figure: James T. Kirk.
After two previous appearances in episodes that took place in alternate timelines, we finally get to meet the “real” Kirk in “Lost in Translation,” a young man freshly promoted to First Officer on the U.S.S. Farragut who boards the Enterprise to visit his brother Sam and tell him the good news. Along the way, he meets several of the people who will...

Grief is a hard thing to talk about and an even harder one to confront. On Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 2 Episode 6, we finally have the opportunity to deal with Hemmer's tragic and horrific death from Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 1.
Pelia is in the unenviable position of replacing him as Chief Engineer, where her style and approach will invariably be compared (and found lacking) to Hemmer's. Her interaction with Una illustrates this vividly.
Meanwhile, Uhura's relationship with the late Chief Engineer was one of both professional and personal mentorship. That bond can resemble a parent-child connection, and it's not surprising that his death reminds her of the loss of her family.
There are a lot of backward glances at previous missions seeded throughout the narrative and one very significant nod to a future working relationship we all know is coming.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 2 Episode 6
While the adventures the crew of the Enterprise find themselves in from week to week on Star Trek: Strange New Worlds are always fun, they’re often the least important part of the show we’re watching. Instead, the missions of the week are almost always explicitly tied to the larger themes at work in the various emotional journeys of the show’s characters and their relationships with one another. Such is the case in the season 2 episode “Lost in Translation,” an hour that’s technically about discovering a new alien species, but that’s really a larger story about loss, empathy, and the power of listening to others, even when you don’t always understand what they’re trying to say, at first.

Captain Kirk goes back in time and has a powerful romance that ends in tragedy, a choice made for the greater good. Yes, that synopsis does describe the Star Trek: Strange New Worlds episode “Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow,” in which La’an and an alternate version of James Kirk share an adventure and a kiss in 21st-century Toronto before that Kirk dies in action.
But Star Trek fans may also recognize that synopsis as a description of one of the best episodes of the Original Series, “The City on the Edge of Forever.”
Written by Harlan Ellison, “The City on the Edge of Forever” finds Spock and Kirk traveling to 1930 to rescue an insane and time-displaced McCoy. Along the way, Kirk befriends a social worker and peace activist named Edith Keeler (Joan Collins) and quickly falls for her. But when Spock discovers that McCoy’s arrival prevented Keeler’s accidental death,...

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is back! One of the franchise’s best-received spin-offs returns with Christopher Pike (Anson Mount) in the captain’s seat for a second season that combines every genre in the Trek lexicon. It is definitely — happily — sticking with its original mandate to explore unknown worlds and civilizations, while continuing with the emotional core of the Trek universe. So as Pike would say as the new season blasts off, “Hit It!” However, there’s another captain with a familiar name that will show this season: Kirk! But it’s not the Captain James Kirk we remember; that one is still a lieutenant in the Snw timeline. This is an alternate timeline Kirk, who has a different ship and gets pulled into the storyline of Christina Chong’s Enterprise security chief La’an Noonien-Singh. Paul Wesley, who played Lt. Kirk in one appearance on Season 1, will return...

When we last saw Rebecca Romijn's Number One, Captain Pike's trusty second-in-command in "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds," the character was being hauled off by officials for failing to disclose she is Ilyrian. Romijn is a key part of the new Enterprise crew, so it was a relief when the first trailer for "Strange New Worlds" season 2 showed her right back where she belonged: on the starship that will one day be captained by James Kirk himself.
The trailer for the new season is delightful, with hints of the show's signature humor and chemistry and a great speech by Number One herself about the beauty of the Enterprise's diverse, galaxy-spanning crew and their unique journeys. It should come as little surprise, then, that season 2 of the show is set to explore Number One's journey in greater detail, with an episode focused on her backstory. When J.J. Abrams' feature film "Star Trek" was released in theaters in 2009, there seemed to be a clear creative mandate at work. "Star Trek" was set prior to the events of the 1966 TV series on which it was based, telling an alternate timeline version of how the well-known "Trek" characters all first met. Kirk (Chris Pine), Spock (Zachary Quinto), and the rest of the crew were all depicted as younger, hotter versions of themselves, each one more youthful and impulsive than their adult counterparts from 1966.
Given the hot-headedness of the Enterprise crew and the entire 2009 film's "action-packed" vibe, the mandate mentioned above seems to have demanded the filmmakers kick everything into Overdrive. It's as if they wanted critics to respond with the phrase, "This ain't your grandpa's 'Star Trek.'"

It’s been seven years since the release of Star Trek Beyond, and in that time, we’ve seen the release of multiple Star Trek TV shows, including Discovery, Picard, Lower Decks, Prodigy, and Strange New Worlds… but no fourth movie. Paramount can’t seem to get Star Trek 4 off the ground, but when the project does finally launch, producer J.J. Abrams believes it will have quite the story to tell.
In Esquire‘s recent Chris Pine profile, J.J. Abrams offered a quick Star Trek 4 tease: “I will say it’s the first time [since the original reboot] that we have a story that feels as compelling as the first one.” The first Star Trek reboot was quite a lot of fun and still stands as the best-reviewed film of the franchise, according to Rotten Tomatoes. Abrams added that they’re still searching for a new director since the departure of Matt Shakman,...

WandaVision director Matt Shakman signed on to direct Star Trek 4 two years ago, but the allure of the Marvel Cinematic Universe was strong and when he had the chance to helm the new Fantastic Four movie for Marvel Studios, he couldn’t resist.
While speaking with The Wrap, Matt Shakman explained why he walked away from Star Trek 4. “I had a great time working on ‘Star Trek’ for a little over a year, working closely with J.J. Abrams and everyone at Paramount, and I love that franchise, and I love that cast that J.J. put together, and it would have been an unbelievable pleasure to work with them on the fourth installment there,” Shakman said. “But movies have different journeys and momentums and schedules are a little bit mercurial, and so when the ‘Fantastic Four’ opportunity came up, it was just too hard to pass up, and...

Just before the release of Star Trek Beyond, J.J. Abrams announced that Star Trek 4 was already in the works and would bring back Chris Hemsworth as George Kirk, the father of Chris Pine’s James Kirk. J. D. Payne and Patrick McKay signed on to write the script, with S.J. Clarkson set to direct, but the project was shelved when negotiations with Chris Pine and Chris Hemsworth fell apart. While there have been other Star Trek projects in development since then, it seems that the one involving Chris Hemsworth is well and truly dead, so the writers might as well spill the beans.

“The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay revealed that when they were picked to write the follow-up to the 2016 film “Star Trek: Beyond,” they had envisioned a film that would bring back Chris Hemsworth to reprise his role in the 2009 “Trek” reboot as Capt. James Kirk’s supposedly dead father, George.
Payne and McKay have spent the last five years writing scripts with billions of dollars in Amazon money behind them for “The Rings of Power,” but once upon a time, they had been attached to write the long-delayed fourth installment in Paramount’s “Star Trek” reboot film series.
Now, in an interview with Esquire, they have revealed what they had planned.

Patrick McKay and J.D. Payne have found success as the showrunners of Amazon’s “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power,” but before they resurrected Middle Earth it was the Starship Enterprise they tried to get off the ground. McKay and Payne wrote a “Star Trek Beyond” sequel for director S.J. Clarkson that would’ve served as the fourth film in the J.J. Abrams-backed reboot series starring Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana and more. The script, which McKay and Payne have rarely spoken about, featured Chris Hemsworth returning as George Kirk, father of Pine’s James Kirk.

(Welcome to My Most Ridiculous Note, a series of interviews in which animators talk about the weirdest and funniest notes they received from studio executives.)
"Kim Possible" was only the second animated series made for Disney Channel (after "The Proud Family"), and it quickly became one of the cable channel's most popular shows. It's easy to see why: It had action, it had comedy, and it had one of the coolest Disney pets ever.
One of the minds behind the show, co-creator Mark McCorkle, has been in the industry long enough to see it go from being dominated by toy commercials to exploding with original (and not-so-original) ideas and genres. He's worked on everything from "The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!" and Hasbro's "Cops" to "Aladdin and the King of Thieves" and "Buzz Lightyear of Star Command."

There is an odd phenomenon with fandom where “our idea of what a thing should be like” frequently obscures our memories, and even currently-happening-viewing-of the media itself. A great example of this is James Kirk, a character remembered as a promiscuous renegade, a cross between Chris Pine’s rebel-without-a-cause, and Zapp Brannigan. This perception exists despite the fact that for three years on NBC, William Shatner played a massive nerd and consummate professional who (despite maybe two serious romances that actually broke his heart) would list his relationship status as “commanding a starship.”
The Alien franchise is another example of this quirk. Alien is a movie and multimedia franchise named after the titular “Alien.” We remember it as humanity’s first encounter with alien life, and that alien life wanting to either kill or lay its eggs in us—which will then kill us later.

Before he was Thor, Kevin in "Ghostbusters," or even himself in "Jay and Silent Bob Reboot," Chris Hemsworth played James Kirk's father, George Kirk, in J.J. Abrams' 2009 "Star Trek" movie. It's a weird film to look back on now, so far as Hemsworth's screen time goes. He's only in it for 10 minutes before he dies, with George's heroic sacrifice of his life and space vessel, the USS Kelvin, giving the "Kelvin Timeline" its name in "Star Trek" lore. His death would probably come as an even greater shock to someone watching the film for the first time in 2022, assuming a...

For a series that has made no bones about its bent towards the nostalgic, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 1 Episode 10 manages to up the ante on several fronts.
Its faithful recreation of the encounter with the Romulans at Outpost 4 is richly nuanced in both look and sound. As with Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 1 Episode 5, composer Nami Melumad has surpassed expectations in painting an audio backdrop against which our Snw cast plays out the infamous confrontation.
And not only do we meet the young Captain James T. Kirk, but the Scottish brogue of the Enterprise's "new" Chief Engineer is unmistakably Montgomery Scott. With all the legacy characters in place, Pike is the sore thumb in the canonical landscape.
The structure of the story is novel yet feels strangely familiar.

‘Star Trek: Strange New Worlds’ Actress Melissa Navia Talks Ortegas’ Grit, Heart and Spot-On Sarcasm
Click here to read the full article.
[This story contains spoilers for the Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season one finale, “A Quality of Mercy.”]
For Melissa Navia, hearing from actual pilots and soldiers that her character is among the most authentic on Star Trek: Strange New Worlds thanks to Lt. Erica Ortegas’ gallows humor is just about the best compliment she can receive.
The actress knew that the Enterprise’s tough (and at the right times sarcastic) helmsman was something special as soon as she auditioned — and Navia was determined to be a part of the Paramount+ show. She succeeded and brought her unique charm to the role, making Ortegas a fan favorite.
This week’s season one finale sees Ortegas — and the rest of the crew — in a different light, as they are in an alternate timeline for an episode that wonderfully mirrors “Balance of Terror” from Star Trek: The Original Series. The episode...

The following contains spoilers for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Episode 9
The generally episodic nature of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds means that the show can much more easily play with things like tone and genre than either of its fellow modern-day predecessors. From last week’s emotional gut-punch disguised as a candy-coated children’s fantasy to a bodyswap romantic comedy, the show seems to delight in subverting our expectations about what a show like this is supposed to be and do from week to week.
Admittedly, penultimate season 1 episode “All Who Wander” is a fairly big departure from the show’s most recent handful of episodes, what with its overt jump scares, body horror, and murder aliens, and the hour has enough action to feel like a season-ender in its own right. It’s propulsive, thrilling, and genuinely creepy by turns, with plenty of legitimate stakes for multiple characters.

The cast of the upcoming MCU series Ironheart has been confirmed as the show begins production.
“According to reports, Manny Montana has joined the cast comprised of Anthony Ramos, Lyric Ross and Dominique Thorne, the latter of whom will play Riri Williams, a genius inventor and notorious for creating the most advanced suit of armor since Iron Man. The roles of the other three, however, have been kept confidential as of now. Sam Bailey and Angela Barnes are set to direct Ironheart while Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Brad Winderbaum and Zoie Nagelhout will serve as executive producers on the show alongside head writer Chinaka Hodge, Zinzi Coogler and Sev Ohanian.”

“Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” has cast Paul Wesley in the iconic role of James T. Kirk for the Paramount Plus show’s upcoming second season.
“Strange New Worlds” is due to premiere on Paramount Plus on May 5. It was renewed for a second season back in January, with that season already in production.
The show follows the adventures of Captain Christopher Pike prior to Kirk becoming captain of the Enterprise. Wesley will appear as a young version of Kirk. He is now the third actor to play the character in a live-action project. Most famously, William Shatner played Kirk in the original “Star Trek” series as well as in multiple films. Chris Pine has played Kirk in three “Star Trek” films to date, with a fourth on the way.

When Star Trek: Discovery first began, the show was remarkable in that, for the first time in franchise history, its primary protagonist wasn’t a starship captain. Your mileage may vary when it comes to how you feel the show has handled Michael Burnham’s journey over the course of its three seasons to date, but there’s no question that she, rather than the person at the eponymous ship’s helm, was always meant to be Discovery’s lead.
As a result, the show had a unique opportunity in its first season to explore a very different kind of captain with a very different leadership style. After all, if he wasn’t our primary protagonist, then such a character didn’t come with the expectations of a James Kirk or Jean Luc Picard. He could be darker, more complicated, less likable, and the story would be made all the richer for these differences.

By all accounts, the upcoming series Star Trek: Strange New Worlds intends to be a return to the first principles of the Star Trek franchise: Hope, optimism, and a sense of collective possibility. From its supposedly more episodic narrative style and sunnier overall outlook to the servant-hearted captain at its helm, these particular voyages of the starship U.S.S. Enterprise will feel quite a bit different than their recent small-screen predecessors.
While shows like Star Trek: Discovery and Star Trek: Picard have pushed the franchise forward with darker themes that wrestle with the mental and emotional cost of a life spent serving Starfleet, Strange New Worlds sounds as though it will be like snuggling into a familiar blanket. Full of characters we know and a mission we have all already fully bought into, there’s every reason to believe this will be exactly the kind of hopeful science fiction...

Yes, we’re already looking forward to Star Trek: Discovery Season 4. Season 3 saw the show go where no Star Trek has gone before – literally. Flung almost a thousand years into the future after saving all sentient life as we know it, Michael Burnham and her crewmates had to navigate a new and alien reality that bore little resemblance to the one they left behind.
Yet, the decision to send Discovery to the future is possibly the best decision the series has ever made, giving the show a much-needed narrative reset that cut ties to things like Klingon wars and The Original Series legacy characters and sends it off to blaze its own path, unencumbered by the strings of existing canon. But now that Discovery is firmly established in the 32nd century, what can we expect from Star Trek: Discovery‘s upcoming Season 4? We have a few educated guesses…

Animal Behaviour – Canada – 14 minutes
It’s a rather shrewd personification that’s at the back of Alison Snowden and David Fine’s Animal Behaviour. We accept the impulses of animals — even adore them sometimes — but prove desperate to curb our own. The idea is that they don’t know better and we do. It’s our more evolved brains that allow us to see how harmful our impulses can be and decide to consciously work towards correcting them. Those who can’t and, more importantly, those who refuse are thus deemed “animals” themselves. Murderers, rapists, and other violent criminals are relinquished of their humanity because they acted without thinking. So the joke is therefore to fantasize what it would be like if wild beasts felt our shame and regret.

Captain Jean-Luc Picard and Star Trek are two things that practically go hand in hand, but no one could’ve imagined that we’d be lucky enough to have them together again.
Nevertheless, for the first time since 2002’s disappointing Star Trek: Nemesis, Patrick Stewart’s Picard is making a comeback in what’s probably the best Trek news we’ve heard since Quentin Tarantino began pursuing his own R-rated spin on the classic sci-fi franchise.
Of course, such a thing was never a certainty, but it’s definitely happening and it seems to be the perfect time for Stewart to make his return, too. At least, according to Michael Chabon it is. The writer’s involved in the upcoming Picard show and while speaking to CNET in a recent interview, he said that the Captain’s the hero the world needs right now.

Unfortunately, since George and James Kirk went rogue, intel regarding Star Trek 4 has been extremely hard to come by, and although it may seem like the logical conclusion to draw, those closest to the source don’t always have the scoop – just ask John Cho.

The British director S. J. Clarkson has entered talks with Paramount Pictures to take the helm on the next Star Trek production. If negotiations are successful, Clarkson could be the first female director to get behind on the camera on a Star Trek project.
Only yesterday, we reported that at this years CinemaCon, Paramount Pictures announced that there would be at least two more films to come from the studio. With this news, it is looking more likely that Quentin Tarantino’s treatment probably won’t be the next to hit the big screen. The newest could very well fall into the current Star Trek world in which Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto play the young James Kirk and Spock. The most talked about plot for the film would involve James Kirk (Chris Pine) encountering his father (Chris Hemsworth) in a time travel/shift storyline.

Star Trek 4 has found its director and it's not who anyone was expecting. The next Star Trek movie will be helmed by S. J. Clarkson, and she will be the first woman to direct a film in the Star Trek franchise.
Clarkson is best known for her work on TV shows such as Dexter, Bates Motel, Orange is the New Black, and Jessica Jones. She also directed a handful of episodes for Marvel’s The Defenders.
The details on the film are vague, but we do know that Chris Hemsworth will return to the franchise and reprise his role as James T. Kirk's (Chris Pine) father. Zachary Quinto is also set to return and I'm sure that several other members of the cast will be back as well.
What about that Quentin Tarantino Star Trek film, you ask? Don't worry, it's still in development with J.J. Abrams. That's a completely different project,...

Fan fiction is more prevalent than you might think. With Fifty Shades of Grey being unleashed in theaters Friday, there's no denying that the novel's author, E L James, has brought fan fiction into the spotlight. Originally titled Master of the Universe, James's Twilight fan fiction based on Stephenie Meyer's multi-million dollar franchise first found its home on FanFiction.net. After the racy material within the story forced James to pull it from FanFiction.net, she next hosted Master of the Universe on her own website called 50Shades.com (which now redirects to her official author page). Back then,...
