As Jamie Lee Curtis picked up her first trophy ever at the 45th Annual Saturn Awards Friday night, she had a good luck charm on her arm: former manager Chuck Binder, whom she said was the reason she became an actor.
“I was in college and had no thought of being an actor,” Curtis told Variety ahead of her best actress win for “Halloween.” “I came home from college at Christmas, and an old friend of mine who used to be a tennis teacher was managing actors. He said, ‘They’re looking for Nancy Drew. Do you want to go up for it? And I was like, ‘Sure.’”
Although Curtis didn’t get the part, she was hooked, and after a series of wins and losses, she landed the role that kicked off her career. “I ended up with an [acting] contract at Universal Studios,” she continued. “I quit college, and...

In Hollywood years, Sharon Stone and manager Chuck Binder had been together for a lifetime. But the Oscar-nominated actress and die-hard philanthropist quietly parted ways over the summer with Binder, by whom she had been represented for more than three decades.
She signed with Mosaic's Paul Nelson and CAA, and Stone tells The Hollywood Reporter that at 59 years old she feels like a new person and it was time her representation matched the new mindset.
"I was with him for 30 years," she says of Binder. "It was time for me. I’m not on that same shore anymore. I’m...

AmfAR champ Sharon Stone was absent from the 24th gala in Cannes on May 25, marking the third straight year she missed the Hotel du Cap event. Stone had been a regular since the '90s, helping the AIDS organization raise millions by hosting and energizing the live auctions.

Daryl Hannah owes $62,622 in unpaid taxes.
The "Splash" actress - who is thought to be worth $15 million - has been hit with a federal lien from the Inland Revenue Service, although her manager Chuck Binder isn't concerned and is already signing her up for future film projects.
He said: "I just made a deal for her. So whatever kind of things that are owed, if she does owe, will get cleaned up next week."
This isn't the first time, Daryl, 50, has been in trouble with the law.
In 2009, she was arrested after taking part in a protest against mountaintop coalmining - which sees the tops of mountains blown away to help miners get at deposits inside - during which a West Virginia road was blocked.

The Actor: John HawkesThe Roles: You may not know the name, but odds are you'll recognize the face, as Hawkes has appeared in countless films and TV programs over the last two decades. Two individuals close to the Carradine family told Larry King on Friday night that the family has sought the FBI's help in investigating the late actor's death in Bangkok, Thailand, and there are plans for a second autopsy. Read on for all the new details. Mark Geragos, an attorney for David's actor brother Keith Carradine, told King that the Carradine family met with the FBI on Friday, in hopes that the agency can compel Thai officials to launch an investigation in Bangkok soon. The Carradines want the FBI to be involved "at least in an assisting role, so that they can kind of oversee what's going on," Geragos said. He added that the FBI has to go through a series of legal channels and hurdles to get involved, but they "can be invited over there immediately. And I call on the people in Bangkok to invite them in." Geragos said...

Thai Police are now focusing on the possibility that David Carradine's death might be related to wrong sex act. The investigation comes to the actor's sex behavior since a rope was also found around his genitals in addition to a rope hung on his neck as reported before. "The two ropes were tied together," Police Lt. Gen. Worapong Chewprecha informed.
The ropes might be used by David to have an autoerotic asphyxiation, a practice in which someone intentionally cuts off oxygen to the brain for the purpose of sexual arousal. This speculation is affirmed with a statement found in the "Kung Fu" star's 2003 divorce papers, in which his ex-wife, Marina, accused him of having "deviant sexual behavior which was potentially deadly."
With the investigation development, police now consider David's death might not have been a suicide, saying "It is unclear whether he committed suicide or not, or he died of suffocation or heart failure.

David Carradine died during a sex game that went wrong, according to sources in Bangkok, Thailand, where he was found dead on Thursday.
Carradine's body was discovered in a hotel suite and local reports suggested he committed suicide.
He was discovered by a maid, naked and hanged, but the suggestions his death had a sexual twist were strongly disputed by the star's close friend, attorney Vicki Roberts, and his manager Chuck Binder, who insisted he died of natural causes.
But a statement from Carradine's representative now indicates the actor died during a sex act.
The spokesperson tells TMZ.com, "We can confirm 100 per cent that he never would have committed suicide. It was an accidental death. Everybody is in shock."
Rumours Carradine died attempting auto-erotic asphyxiation - where victims achieve heightened sexual pleasure by restricting their air supply - are backed up by a quote a Bangkok police officer gave to British newspaper The Sun.
The cop tells reporters, "A rope was attached to his neck and also to his penis".
Rocker Michael Hutchence was rumoured to have died attempting the same sex act in a Sydney, Australia hotel room back in 1997 - although his death was officially declared a suicide.
Carradine was in Thailand to shoot new movie Stretch. He was 72.

Actor David Carradine has been found dead in a hotel in Thailand.
The Kill Bill star, 72, was staying in Bangkok while shooting his new movie Stretch.
Local media in Thailand initially reported Carradine had committed suicide by hanging himself in his hotel suite, but the star's agent has told a U.S. TV channel he believes the actor died of natural causes.
Carradine's manager Chuck Binder says a producer of the Stretch movie found the actor dead when he called at his room at the Park Nai Lert Hotel in Junfan Mulay, Bangkok.
But police in Thailand insist a hotel maid had found Carradine dead in a wardrobe with a rope around his neck and body on Thursday morning. A spokesman declined to give further details out of consideration for the actor's family.
Paying tribute to Carradine, Binder said: "(His death is) shocking and sad. He was full of life, always wanting to work... a great person."
Carradine was born John Arthur Carradine in Hollywood, and was part of an acting dynasty which included his father, John Carradine, and brothers Bruce, Keith and Robert.
He took a course in drama at San Francisco State University, before changing his name to David and launching his career on the stage.
He appeared in more than 100 films and TV dramas, working with prestigious directors including Martin Scorsese and Ingmar Bergman, but was best known for his roles as Kwai Chang Caine in the 1970s series Kung Fu and as the title character from Quentin Tarantino's martial arts films Kill Bill Vols. 1 & 2.
In 2005, he was awarded the Action On Film International Film Festival Lifetime Achievement Award in honour of his 45-year career.
Carradine was married five times - most recently to Annie Bierman in 2004 - and had two daughters, Calista Miranda and Kansas.

David Carradine, best known for his leading role of Kwai Chang Caine on TV's Kung Fu in the 1970s, died Wednesday in Bangkok, where he was shooting a film, his manager confirmed Thursday. The star was 72.
According to manager Chuck Binder, the movie's producer went to Carradine's hotel room and found that he had passed away. Binder told Fox News the death is "shocking and sad. He was full of life, always wanting to work ... a great person."
Married five times and divorced four - he is survived by his widow, Annie Bierman, whom he married in 2004 - Carradine starred as folk singer Woody Guthrie in the 1976 Best Picture Oscar nominee Bound for Glory. Among his later screen roles was in Quentin Tarantino's Kill Bill, in which he played Bill.
Varied and Long Career
As profiled in People in 1992, Carradine was born in Hollywood to the actor John Carradine and his first wife, Ardanelle, and was just 7 when his parents divorced.
Shuttled between the two, he grew up in boarding schools on both coasts. Although he was orphaned emotionally, he did become close to the seven stepbrothers and half brothers he would accumulate during Dad's four marriages: Ardanelle's older son, Bruce; Chris, Keith and Bobby (whose mother was actress Sonia Sorel); Mike Bowen (Sonia's son from an earlier marriage); and Mike and Dale Grimshaw (John's stepsons by third wife Doris Rich).
By 1970, Carradine says, "I had a house in the Hollywood Hills that virtually every brother has lived in. It was like this safe harbor. We all took care of each other."
David's acting breakthrough - as an Inca king on Broadway in 1965's The Royal Hunt of the Sun when he was 29 - came only after lean years of studying music and ballet at San Francisco State, a brief Army hitch and a life-support gig as a prune picker.
