A 4K remastered edition of the classic Ova Angel's Egg , written and directed by Mamoru Oshii ( Ghost in The Shell ), will be produced to commemorate its 40th anniversary in 2025. As Oshii's first original Ova work and collaboration work with internationally acclaimed illustrator Yoshitaka Amano, Angel's Egg was released from Tokuma Shoten in Japan on December 15, 1985. In addition to co-working on the original concept with Oshii, Amano was also in charge of art direction, including character design, image boards, art settings, and color settings. The 71-minute Ova was an avant-garde and fantastical work based on the Noah's Ark episode from the Book of Genesis in the Old Testament, with only two characters — Boy (CV: Jinpachi Nezu) and Girl (Mako Hyodo). The story is about a young girl who holds an egg in her arms in a submerged city. She believes that it is the egg of an angel. One day, she...

While most Final Fantasy games take place in their own worlds, the franchise is still linked together through several iconic factors such as Chocobos, elemental crystals, and powerful summons. The series established many of those tropes early on but not all at once. Summons, for instance, weren’t added until Final Fantasy III. But unlike some of the other iconic Final Fantasy features, summons weren’t necessarily intended to be a major part of the franchise.
Several days ago, Square Enix held an interview with the major figures behind Final Fantasy: Hironobu Sakeguchi, Kazuko Shibuya, and Yoshinori Kitase. This meeting was meant to celebrate Final Fantasy’s 35th anniversary (and Sakeguchi’s 60th birthday) and focused mainly on the series’ origins. Subjects included where the name “Final Fantasy” came from and how the team came up with the idea for summons. If you’re expecting an origin story as...

I’m a pretty easy mark when it comes to Superman books. A quick check of my collection shows over 2000 books with Superman in them. Throw in Superboy and Supergirl and, well, I guess I’ve got a super-addiction. But I digress. As much as I love Superman, he’s been a well travelled property in his 83 years of being published, and coming up with new approaches, or new spins on old wheels, is getting harder and harder. Superman: Red and Blue seems to exist for just that reason, to give Superman some fresh takes, some new looks, but to retain that central core that defines him. all in just the colours red and blue, of course. I like the idea, so I hope the execution lives up to it. Let’s take a look.

Last year, Dark Horse Comics adapted William Gibson's unproduced Alien 3 screenplay as a five-issue comic book series, and now they're teaming up with 20th Century Fox to give the same treatment to Dan O’Bannon's original Alien screenplay, which, as diehard Alien fans know, is different from the version that came to life on the big screen in 1979.
Written by Cristiano Seixas and based on O’Bannon's original screenplay for Alien (which also included story ideas that O’Bannon worked on with Ronald Shusett), Alien: The Original Screenplay will be a five-issue series featuring artist Guilherme Balbi and colorist Candice Han.
Originally known under titles such as Memory and Star Beast, the screenplay for Alien would go on to have many different drafts before filming began, changing and reconfiguring certain storylines from O’Bannon's initial version. Alien: The Original Screenplay seeks to preserve O’Bannon's initial vision for the classic film,...

One of the creators of Vampire Hunter D, character designer Yoshitaka Amano, is working on a new anime project called Gibiate with a team of team of talented Japanese artists and creators, and they’ve come up with something that is looks crazy! The series is set in a world that is plagued by demons and nightmarish bug-like creatures.
The team behind this project includes Naoki Serizawa (Resident Evil monster designer), Yuzo Koshiro (music composer), and Yoshida Brothers (music performers). We have a preview of Gibiate that you can watch below along with a synopsis that offers some of the story details. As you’ll see, this anime is going to be pretty insane, but lots of fun. I’d watch it!

After six years of delighting Japanese Final Fantasy fans, the successful Trading Card Game (Tcg) is finally making it's way to North America. If you're a fan of card games or Final Fantasy, it's time to prepare your wallets!
While I haven't had the chance to play any in a long while, cards games (Tcg and Ccg) have always enticed me. Something about the strategy elements and communal nature of the play appealed to me. As such, I was pretty excited to hear about Square Enix bringing over their Final Fantasy Tcg over to the West. The first set and initial cards decks will be available on October 28th. With 15 expansions already release in Japan, and undoubtedly making their way over here as well, you'd best get started saving your pennies now.

We’ve all heard the old cliche “Don’t judge a book by its cover,” but it’s sometimes a difficult one to practice. After all, if something rubs you the wrong way right from the start, it’s tempting to give up rather than wait to see if things get better. My experience with Fairy Fencer F: Advent Dark Force reflects exactly why that old adage has become so popular: though the early going was rough, I stuck with it long enough to find that things quickly improved — and ended up really enjoying the majority of the game.
Though it’s a PS4 release of a game that came out just a couple years ago, I think it serves as a friendly reminder that this is one of Compile Heart’s very best titles. If you’re a Jrpg fan who missed this on PS3, or a returning fan...

It has been a long and bumpy road since Final Fantasy Xv was announced back in 2006. After years of waiting, however, Square Enix has finally announced that the long awaited epic will launch worldwide on September 30 . The date was revealed by Hajime Tabata, the director of the RPG, during tonight’s Uncovered event.
As leaked earlier in the day, besides the final release date for the endlessly-delayed RPG, a free demo for Final Fantasy Xv will also go live for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 tonight. The now-christened Platinum Demo focuses on a young Noctis as he works to improve his abilities.
Although it features many of the same mechanics found in the full game, the demo is a more light-hearted approach to the serious world. Also, as mentioned before, playing through the demo will be the only way to unlock the Carbuncle summon in the full game come September.
