We celebrate May Day with five of our favorite May-centric pop culture references

1 May 2012 1:00 PM, PDT | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »

How best to celebrate the arrival of the fifth month, PopWatchers? Lacking a May pole in EW’s office, I decided to turn to pop culture. Though I considered expanding the net to include non-traditional picks like bunkin’ cousin Maeby Fünke from Arrested Development and Ghost’s Oda Mae Brown (“Molly, you in danger, girl!”), there was plenty of May love to go around without getting Fünke with it. Below, five of my favorite May touchstones.

“The Lusty Month of May,” Camelot

If this number from Lerner and Loewe’s hit 1960 musical doesn’t, ahem, get you in the mood for a new month, »

'Army Wives' Kellie Martin to reunite with TV mom Patti LuPone

22 April 2012 3:00 PM, PDT | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

Kellie Martin knows there isn't much she hasn't played.

From her initial television stardom as teenager Becca on ABC's "Life Goes On," through a long string of TV movies and onto later series roles as the Appalachian teacher on CBS' "Christy," medical student Lucy on NBC's "ER" and an amateur sleuth in Hallmark Channel's "Mystery Woman" franchise, the actress has covered a lot of turf.

Any type of part Martin hasn't done already holds special appeal for her now. That's a big reason she has joined Lifetime's Sunday-night drama "Army Wives" as Capt. Nicole Galassini, whose expertise on African geopolitics proves useful.

"When they called me and I listened to the pitch about the character, I was so excited," Martin tells Zap2it. "I've never played military, after 30 years of being an actress, and the thing I love so much about Nicole is that she's so smart and so driven. »

Birthday shoutouts go to Christopher Meloni (above), who turns 51, the faboo Emmylou Harris is 65, The Barbi Twins are 49, Adam Rodriguez is 37, Michael Fassbender is 35 ,and Marvin Gaye would have been 73. What are your fave Marvin or Emmylou songs? Here are my Marvin picks: 5. "Inner City Blues," 4. "Mercy Mercy Me," 3. "What's Going On," 2. "Sexual Healing," 1. "I Heard It Through The Grapevine."

In ratings news, Shameless scored big with its Season Finale, up 26% from last year, but the return of AMC's The Killing was down a third from its debut last season. I guess people don't appreciate being dicked around.Unfortunately, Gcb was down 10%, but the Country Music Awards could've had something to do with that.Congrats to Adam Sandler, whose Jack & Jill won every single Razzie Award last night, setting a record. 24 Of The Dumbest And Most Bizarre Statements Ever Made About Glbt People.Speaking of dumb and bizarre statements, Two And a Half Men »
