"Judo" Gene LeBell the "Godfather of Grappling" was both a renowned ex-world champion in both wrestling/judo, and one of Hollywood's busiest stuntmen. He is highly respected by many martial artists all over the world, and considered a groundbreaker in many aspects of the art of grappling.
Gene started training in judo at a young age, and at the age of 20 in 1954, he won National AAU Heavyweight Judo Championship and the USA Overall Judo Championship title. He went on to win the both the Heavyweight and overall champion title 1955 as well. After an illustrious judo career, he tried his hand at professional wrestling, and actually won the heavyweight title in Amarillo, Texas. However, in his excitement, Gene swung the title belt around his head, which accidentally hit one of the wrestling commissioners on the head, causing a nasty gash. The belt was immediately seized from the shocked Gene, which in later years would cause him to comment, "Well, at least I was the champ for 12 seconds and I retired as champion."
Gene went on to fight numerous opponents over the years including practitioners from other fighting arts that scoffed at his prowess, however they learned the hard way that Gene's superb grappling skills were the real deal. He has trained with numerous other world champion martial artists including Chuck Norris, Bill Wallace, and Benny Urquidez.
He acted and contributed stunt work to Hollywood productions for over fifty years. He can be seen in TV shows including Mission: Impossible (1966), I Spy (1965), The Wild Wild West (1965), Baretta (1975), Married... with Children (1987), and Baywatch (1989). His feature film appearances include Raging Bull (1980), Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins (1985), Bad Guys (1986), Ed Wood (1994), and Men in Black II (2002).
LeBell was still teaching grappling and doing stunts in his 70s. He was a Nevada and California Athletic Commission judge. He judged UFC 74 (Randy Couture vs. Gabriel Gonzaga) plus he had a highly popular website visited by martial arts and film fans all over the globe.
Gene LeBell had three children including stuntman son David LeBell and FBI agent daughter Monica LeBell Pandis. He also had 8 grandchildren.- Stunts

Prolific Hollywood stuntman / actor / bodybuilder who portrayed bare knuckle fighters, tough thugs, vicious hoodlums and even a living dead sculptor in a career spanning over thirty years. A US navy veteran, the athletically built Dimitri first got involved in cinema in the late 1950's and contributed stunt work to TV series like 77 Sunset Strip (1958) and Route 66 (1960) and appeared in minor acting roles in Kid Galahad (1962), The Train (1964) and Ambushers, The (1967).
Dimitri was genuinely terrifying as an artist who returns from the dead seeking blood to build a hideous statue and to terrorize Angie Dickinson in the TV pilot The Norliss Tapes (1973). He was equally impressive as a ruthless bare knuckle fighter hired by white collar gangsters to slug it out with Charles Bronson amongst pits of oyster shells in the climax of the gritty Hard Times (1975).
He remained perpetually busy during the 1980's contributing stunts and acting appearances in many action oriented TV shows including Knight Rider (1982), The A-Team (1983), MacGyver (1985) and Hunter (1984). In the 1990s, Dimitri tangled with cop Steven Seagal during a pool room brawl in Out for Justice (1991) and he was knocked out cold by a bomb laden corpse (!) as Arnold Schwarzenegger made his escape for a gangster's lavish rooftop funeral in Last Action Hero (1993). A longtime member of the well known Stuntmen's Association, Dimitri enjoys minor cult status amongst some movie fans for his "tough as nails" screen characters !- Stunts

In addition, Bobby became a staunch advocate of safer working conditions in the stunt industry after stuntwoman and then girlfriend Heidi Von Beltz was paralyzed from the neck down in the wake of an automobile stunt going disastrously awry during the shooting of The Cannonball Run (1981) as well as the tragic helicopter accident that claimed the lives of Vic Morrow and two child actors that occurred during the making of Twilight Zone: The Movie (1983). American stuntman, long associated with John Wayne, who doubled for most of the great Western and action stars of the 1950s-1980s. His parents, Bert and Hazel Hayward, were cattle ranchers on a farm near Hyannis, Nebraska, about sixty miles east of Hayward's birthplace in Alliance. He spent his early youth working cattle, then, at 16, left home to join the rodeo circuit as a bronc rider and horse trainer. In 1947, he arrived in Los Angeles and sought work as a wrangler. He began doing stunts in 1949 on The Fighting Kentuckian (1949), doubling John Wayne. The two became pals and Hayward subsequently stunted and doubled Wayne on nearly two dozen of the latter's films. Excelling at all sorts of horseback stunts, Hayward doubled most stars of the period who found themselves in Westerns or otherwise astride a horse, including Marlon Brando, Yul Brynner, Steve McQueen, and Gregory Peck. He graduated into stunt coordination, arranging the stunts on films such as The Deadly Companions (1961) and the TV series The Rat Patrol (1966). He played small roles in numerous films and TV shows, and his appearance often served as an accurate predictor of an upcoming fight scene. He retired from stuntwork in 1981, and from acting in 1989. Hayward was a member of the unofficial "John Ford Stock Company," a lifetime member of the Stuntmen's Association of Motion Pictures and an inductee into the Stuntmen's Hall of Fame. He died from Hodgkin's Disease at his home in North Hollywood, California, in 1998.- Actor

An American stuntman who, after more than 30 years in the business, moved into acting and became an acclaimed and respected character actor, Richard Farnsworth was a native of Los Angeles. He grew up around horses and as a teenager was offered an opportunity to ride in films. He appeared in horse-racing scenes and cavalry charges unbilled, first as a general rider and later as a stuntman. His riding and stunting skills gained him regular work doubling stars ranging from Roy Rogers to Gary Cooper, and he often doubled the bad guy as well. Although. like most stuntmen, he was occasionally given a line or two of dialogue, it was not until Farnsworth was over 50 that his natural talent for acting and his ease and warmth before the camera became apparent. When he won an Academy Award nomination for his role in Comes a Horseman (1978), it came as a surprise to many in the industry that this "newcomer" had been around since the 1930s. Farnsworth followed his Oscar nomination with a number of finely wrought performances, including The Grey Fox (1982) and The Natural (1984). In 1999 he came out of semi-retirement for a tour-de-force portrayal in The Straight Story (1999).78 stunts, 1937-1975.

Big, brawny, and imposing actor and stuntman Dick Durock was born on January 18, 1937 in South Bend, Indiana. The fourth of five children; he grew up in South Bend, Indiana and New Jersey. After serving a stint in the Marine Corps and briefly working as a computer programmer, Durock went to Hollywood to eke out a career in show business. He eventually amassed hundreds of credits in both movies and TV series alike (Durock sometimes worked on two different shows in the same day). Durock began his career in 1967 as the stunt double for Guy Williams on the final season of Lost in Space (1965). He also doubled for both Buddy Ebsen and Max Baer Jr. on The Beverly Hillbillies (1962). A natural athlete, Burbank, California-bred Louie Nicholas Elias Jr. excelled in sports, especially football (US) and rugby. At UCLA, he played for the Bruins football team at the Rose Bowl under esteemed coach Red Sanders (UCLA's football coach from 1949-57). He played professionally in the Canadian Football League. He briefly joined the ROTC to avoid the draft, did reserve camp, and hated it. After college, he played professional football until knee injuries caused him to be cut from the team.
He returned to Hollywood, beginning as a film extra, working his way into a bit part movie actor. His first movie stunt job on Universal Studios' Spartacus (1960) earned him his first stunt injury when actor Kirk Douglas drowned him a soup cauldron and gave him a cut to his chin and a scar for life.
By 2000, he had more than 150 film and film TV series credits to his name. Among so many other action scenes, "Action Louie" had jumped from the tower of "F-Troop", had fought his way out of 'The Wild Bunch", had raced into "Vanishing Point," and taken the brunt on behalf of so many chiseled-featured actors. Born in St. Anthony, a small town in eastern Idaho, Bradford Harris attended UCLA in the early 1950s, where he played fullback on the football team while studying economics. His studies may have been intended as the groundwork for a career in his family's banking business, but Harris instead drifted into the fringes of Los Angeles' movie industry, and secured employment as a stunt man. In the late 1950s he traveled to Europe as the stunt co-ordinator for a German-Italian co-production. Soon he found himself working as a second-unit director, and that led to a starring role in Goliath Against the Giants (1961). His good looks and muscular build kept him in demand during the era of "sword and sandal" movies, and when this genre began to fade away, he moved into "spaghetti westerns" and a spate of action movies with an emphasis on spy thrillers. In 1967 he married actress Olga Schoberová.43 stunts, 56-74.

Before arriving in Hollywood, Dick Dial attended OU in Oklahoma City, was a champion Golden Glove boxer, and briefly, attended the Art Institute of Chicago.
At the height of his TV/film career, he was interviewed by host Mike Douglas, who called him "Thee Hollywood Stuntman". His extensive work has been either acting with or doubling such legendary actors: John Wayne, Elvis Presley, Henry Fonda, Robert Duvall, Lloyd Bridges, Sidney Poitier, Charlton Heston,Charles Bronson, George Peppard, James Coburn, Lorne Greene, Rodney McDowell, and the list goes on.
In his down time, he was an avid "A" ranked tennis player, a competitive sailor, and an artist. He was known for his humorous caricatures of celebrities and friends. Many of his well-known drawings were hung for years, in his close friend, John Leon's, restaurant La Scala Malibu and La Scala Presto. He drew cartoons of political satire or everyday humor for publications such as the LA Times. His oil paintings were considered gallery quality but unfortunately, they were never shown. Sadly, majority of his paintings can only be seen in photos since many of them have disappeared. His daughter, DuPree Dial, is hoping many of his pieces still exist and would greatly appreciate any information that someone might have regarding them. The actor is better known for his prowess as a stunt driver. His work in Bullitt (1968) is legendary where he drove the black Dodge Charger 440 Magnum that was pursued by Steve McQueen in his Ford Mustang 390 GT. For his reputation earned on Bullitt, Hickman was hired by William Friedkin for The French Connection (1971). He staged a similar chase on the streets of Manhattan but with a greater presence of civilians, an element that had been missing in Bullitt. Doubling for Gene Hackman in the more hazardous stunts, Hickman drove the brown 1970 Pontiac at speeds up to 90mph with Friedkin manning the camera right behind him. Hickman's third spectacle would be captured in The Seven-Ups (1973) where, yet again, he virtually outdid himself driving the car being pursued by Roy Scheider in another landmark car chase.29 stunts, 1944-1977.

1922-1982, 59.- If there was a stage that needed to be driven, a wagon that needed to be rolled, or a posse scene that needed riders Jimmie Booth got a call.
Born on a farm Jimmie learned how to ride a horse at a young age and after serving two years in the Army Air Corp he traveled with a Wild West Circus Show for two years. Meanwhile Jimmie became acquainted with many of the cowboys and horsemen in the Newhall area who worked in the motion picture industry. Through these connections he was able to become a member of the Screen Extras Guild.
By the late 1950s the television western flourished and he found lots of work in posse scenes, bar scenes, and driving stages all the way through the 1980s working in pretty much any television western and most western movies you can think of.
But like most actors, these jobs only paid part of the bills but there were other jobs that required his skill set. In the 1950's, when the Santa Anita and Hollywood Park horse-racing tracks used draft horses to pull the starting gate, Jimmie drove that team of four Belgians. He also drove the fancy carriage pulled by the team of four high stepping Hackney's which transported the judges to and from their posts.
In 1955 Jimmie was hired at Disneyland to drive the horse-drawn vehicles on Main Street. On Disneyland's opening day he drove the first horse-drawn street car down Main Street to "open the show."
When he retired from the movies he wasn't done yet, because of his unique skill set he was able to drive stagecoaches in parades for Wells Fargo for the next 13 years.6 stunts, 1959-1970.

Robert Gene "Red" West was a close friend of Elvis Presley and a member of Presley's inner circle, known as "The Memphis Mafia". He first met Elvis in high school, where he was a year behind him. West played football for the Memphis Tigers high school football team, boxed in the Golden Gloves and played football for the Jones County Junior College Bobcats playing center.
West lived with his mother, Lois West, in the Hurt Housing project in Memphis. West became Elvis's personal driver in driving Elvis and band members Scotty Moore, Bill Black and later D.J. Fontana to different Southern cities for live appearances from 1955 to 1956. West served in the US Marine Corps from 1956 to late 1958 and was stationed in Norfolk, Virginia, which allowed him to stay in contact with Elvis. On August 14, 1958, West's estranged father, Newton Thomas West, died, the same day as Elvis' mother, Gladys Presley.
After Elvis' discharge from the US Army in 1960, West was employed as one of the star's bodyguards. Over the years, Elvis bought West a number of vehicles as he became a world-famous celebrity. West also became a movie stuntman and appeared in 16 of Elvis' films in the 1960s, usually playing extras or bit and supporting parts. West married one of Elvis' secretaries, Pat West, on July 1, 1961. West became a songwriter for songs that Elvis, Pat Boone, Ricky Nelson and Johnny Rivers recorded, including the classic tune "Separate Ways" for Elvis, which won a BMI Award. In addition to the Elvis movies, West appeared in three Robert Conrad TV series The Wild Wild West (1965), Black Sheep Squadron (1976) and The Duke (1979). During the 1970s West, his cousin Del 'Sonny' West, and Dave Hebler served as Elvis' bodyguards, in charge of his daily transportation and keeping weirdo or potentially dangerous fans away from him. On July 13, 1976, Vernon Presley, Elvis' father, fired all three bodyguards, criticizing what he believed to be their heavy-handed tactics. The three later collaborated on a book about their lives as Elvis' bodyguards, which was published just two weeks before Elvis' death in 1977.
West continued his acting and songwriting careers, the former until 2015, two years before his death.6 stunts, 1960-1969.

American actor who achieved some success as a child and as a young adult, especially in B-Westerns and in television. The son of a Texas newspaper editor. Jones was a accomplished horseman from infancy. At the age of four he was billed as the World's Youngest Trick Rider and Roper. At the age of six, he was hired to perform riding and lariat tricks in the rodeo owned by western star Hoot Gibson. Gibson convinced young Jones and his parents that there was a place for him in Hollywood, and the boy and his mother went west. Gibson arranged for some small parts for the boy. His good looks, energy, and pleasant voice quickly landed him more and bigger parts. In both low-budget Westerns and in more substantial productions. In 1940 he had one of his most prominent roles, as the voice of Pinocchio (1940) in Walt Disney's animated film of the same name. Jones attended Hollywood High School and at 15, took over the role of Henry Aldrich on the hit radio show "The Aldrich Family." He learned carpentry and augmented his income with jobs in that field. He served in the Army in Alaska during the final months of World War II. Gene Autry, who had cast Jones in several Westerns before the war, now put him back to work in films. And later in television, on programs produced by Autry's company. Now billed as Dick Jones the handsome young man starred as Dick West. Where he was sidekick to the Western hero known as The Range Rider (1951), in a TV series that ran for 76 episodes in 1951 (and for decades in syndication).
