The build-up to Halloween is always a magical time for horror fans – fireworks light up the night-sky; theaters are screening the latest and (sometimes) greatest genre hits; long-running TV shows like The Simpsons and Brooklyn Nine-Nine release spooky specials; and there is often enough candy to trigger the beginning of a festive food coma.
If, like us though, you’re feeling a little deflated now that the Halloween celebrations are over for another year, spare a thought for Michael Myers. The time-honored movie villain is synonymous with the annual holiday, and though he (it?) has been absent from our screens for far too long, 2018 will signal the return of Myers thanks to David Gordon Green’s reinvention.

Halloween decorating is a serious business for my family. It started with my father pretending he was a Halloween prop on our porch and has since evolved into more elaborate decorations, lighting, and sound, making my family's home a must-see stop for trick-or-treaters every October 31st.
With the haunting season upon us once again, it's that time of year to embrace the horrors of home ownership and transform the usually friendly exteriors of our houses into frightening facades. While there are many ways to give the outside of your home a macabre makeover, one of the most important elements in creating a creepy attraction is lighting. Through my experiences scaring the neighbors over the years, I've put together a list of tips on the most efficient ways to use lighting and add in some new technology to your Halloween setup this year.

In our ongoing recap of last week's Ultimate Horror Poll -- in which over 100 genre experts helped determine the 100 greatest horror movies of all time by voting for their personal "ten best" -- the time has come to take stock of every honorable mention and clarification given by the survey's participants that weren't included in the original piece. To be clear, voters weren't asked for honorable mentions specifically; but a handful felt strongly enough about their "bubbling under" choices to list them anyway (which proved extraordinarily useful in helping break ties on the Top 100). See below for a full listing, as well as explanations from Bloody-Disgusting founder/editor-in-chief Brad Miska and director Corin Hardy ("The Hallow") on why they voted the way they did. Honorable Mentions: Barbara Crampton (Actor, "Re-Animator") Dracula (1931) Jaws (1975) Nosferatu (1922) Poltergeist (1982) Vampyr (1932) Brad Miska (Founder/Editor-in-Chief, Bloody-Disgusting.com; Producer) -- See Full Explanations Below Beetlejuice (1988) Bill & Ted's...

Halloween is almost upon us and there’s no better time of year to watch some of your favourite horror films, or better yet…discover something new to terrify you for the very first time.
These are ten films that I always find myself watching during the Halloween season.
1. The Universal Monsters
I’m cheating a bit here but try as I might I just couldn’t narrow it down to one. While none of these films are necessarily scary from a modern perspective, nothing gets me in the Halloween mood quite like a dose of good ol’ Universal Monsters.
Horror Trivia: Lon Chaney, Jr. played all four of the big monsters during Universal’s monster heyday. He played Frankenstein’s monster in The Ghost of Frankenstein, The Wolf Man in The Wolf Man, Dracula in Son of Dracula, and The Mummy in The Mummy’s Ghost.

If you're in the Leicester area this Halloween be sure to check out The Phoenix. Their annual Frightarama takes place on October 31st, with tickets priced at £25. The all night horror movie marathon returns with five fiendish films to take you through till dawn. Take blankets, sleeping bags, crucifixes, garlic, silver bullets, pyjamas, whatever you think will get you through till dawn. Who will survive, and what will be left of them? Time will tell I guess. The evening kicks off with The Omen, Richard Donner's masterpiece of creeping terror. Film two is yet to be confirmed but it's looking likely to be [Rec], a film that needs to be seen in the dark and on the big screen. Following a fire-crew on a routine call out to an apartment block, a Spanish camera crew soon become trapped in with something terrifying. Argento's 1977 favourite, Suspiria, is an almost overwhelming nightmare of colour and sound.

Mondo does more than just posters. In addition to making cool art and shirts, Mondo Tees also makes and sells vinyl LP soundtracks for cult classic movies with a great soundtrack. In the past they've made vinyl pressings for The Deadly Spawn, Poltergeist, this year's Maniac remake and most of Studio Ghibli's films. Up next is John Carpenter's Halloween, an already iconic soundtrack that gets the ultimate release with a package that includes two LPs with stunning art by Phantom City Creative. The soundtrack includes all 28 tracks from the original 1978 John Carpenter horror classic. If you're a big Carpenter fan, this is a must buy. When compiling a list of movies to watch on the mother of all spooky occasions, it's impossible not to throw a few John Carpenter flicks on there. One of California's most beautiful cities has just recognized his genius!
Last night the city of South Pasadena recognized John Carpenter’s cinematic legacy and local impact (as South Pasadena is where he shot a number of films, including Halloween, Christine, etc.) with a proclamation that was entered into city record and will permanently be on display in City Hall. The last recipient of such a proclamation was Ray Bradbury, a South Pasadena native. The evening also christened October 31st as “John Carpenter Night” from here on out.
Congrats, John! Well deserved! Check out a couple of images from the event below.

The storms on the east coast have proven powerful enough in some cases to make some government officials postpone Halloween to a later date, until it's safe again for trick or treaters, but for most people, October 31st will always be All Hallows' Eve.
But whether you're stuck inside or coming back in from a night of tricks and treats, you'll no doubt need some scary movies to cap off your night.

With October 31st looming large on the calendar, it’s a very appropriate time indeed to revisit “Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers” and follow up “Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers”, a couple of often overlooked slasher sequels to John Carpenter’s 1978 classic. First unleashed way back in 1988 and 1989 respectively, and originally made available in the UK in VHS and DVD releases of indifferent quality, the two films have remained minor cult classics among old school 80s style horror fans, and so these new Anchor Bay versions, out now on region 2 Blu Ray, certainly come as a welcome move. “Halloween 4” saw the series getting back to its stalk and slash roots after the bizarre (though highly entertaining) fantasy of “Halloween 3: Season of the Witch”, with the one and only Michael Myers returning to Haddonfield to hunt down his surviving 10 year old niece Jamie, played by...

When I was growing up in Texas, there was a channel that showed the most outrageous horror films, and the majority of the time, they were even uncensored. The problem is, as you grow older, it becomes increasingly harder and harder to find these films. For a nostalgia buff like myself, this is criminal. Fortunately, for myself and I’m certain many others, there’s Scream Factory, the new horror based off-shoot of the great label, Shout Factory.
So, it’s with great pleasure that we announce that on September 18, 2012, Shout! Factory is releasing Halloween II Collector’s Edition and Halloween III: Season of the Witch 30th Anniversary Special Collector’s Edition on Blu-ray and DVD. These two films have long been unavailable on home video and frankly, now’s the time to buy! They’ll be releasing tins of titles over the next couple of months, like They Live...

In Hollywood there is nothing more terrifying than an original idea. It’s a fear born from the unknown, fear that audiences won’t get it, fear that it won’t do ‘good business.’ For nervous studio executives, both the movie franchise and the remake are a reassuring comfort blanket. These are movies that already have a guaranteed audience and producers can relax in the knowledge that the same idea has made money before.
Rob Zombie’s Halloween (2007) is in the rare position of being both a franchise movie and a direct remake of John Carpenter’s 1978 classic. That Zombie’s film raked in a massive $30.6 million on its opening weekend is hardly surprising. Nor should it be surprising that the film is a mess – lacking originality, insight, and, worst of all, scares. The sequel released in 2009 is even worse.
But fans of the original have little reason to complain.

The holiday season doesn’t really get going until we can hear the turkeys running for their lives. For those of us who live to pair wine with things, however, there’s always a holiday just around the corner. Groundhog Day, Bastille Day, National Cheese Day – they are all perfectly good reasons to crank out – er, craft – an article on which wines will best complement the occasion. The annual, end-of-summer “drink that rosé before last call” columns are particular favorites of mine. Even Texas Independence Day - oh, hell, let’s not go there again.
Next on the list of official holidays is Halloween, a holiday which gets a lot of attention in Tinseltown. It may well be the worst traffic day all year in Los Angeles, especially in the late afternoon and early evening when the ghosts, goblins and Lady Gagas hit...

The Ward creeps onto Blu-ray and DVD on October 17th and marks the return of legendary Godfather of slasher horror John Carpenter after nearly a decade and evokes the classic finely crafted horror of Halloween and Village of the Damned.
Pre-order yourself a copy here to be one of the first to enjoy John Carpenter’s chilling return.
Set in a Psychiatric Hospital, this bone-chilling horror stars Amber Heard (Drive Angry 3D) as Kristen and Jared Harris (Mad Men) as Dr Stringer and delivers on jumps and scares aplenty.
Kristen (Amber Heard) finds herself committed to The Ward, with no recollection of previous events. Imprisoned in this terrifying asylum alongside a group of erratically behaved young women, Kristen not only faces overbearing wardens during the day but by night a savage ghostly figure stalks the ward hallway for her next victim to swallow into the darkness.

When anything about Halloween gets mentioned we take notice. October 31st for many of us is as much fun as Christmas (if not more so). A film dealing with the holiday is just good times, even if it is a comedy...
Thus is the case with Josh Schwartz latest project titled Fun Size. According to THR,
"Paramount picked up the spec script by Colbert Report scribe Max Werner in May 2010. And while several projects are vying for Schwartz's attention as a director, including the coming-of-age drama Looking for Alaska, he fell hard for the comedic script, which centers on a sarcastic teenage girl who is forced to take her little brother trick-or-treating on Halloween, then loses him and must find him before their mother finds out."
A sticking point had been timing.
