These productions function as oftmirrored images with Cold Prey 2 obviously bringing an uptodate spin on things. Director Mats Stenberg surprises with a franchise picture thats every bit as impressive as its predecessor if not more so. Backtoback viewings of Cold Prey and Cold Prey 2 should be just enough to reinstate your belief in the subgenre. But if youre only going with a oneoff and want some wild action Cold Prey 2 works as a fine standalone and still outshines 95percent of similar themed movies.

After battling a crazed backwoods hillbilly, or at least their Norwegian equivalent, and barely escaping with your life, most of us want to take a nice, long break. Maybe a relaxing vacation where we can sit back and get our nerves together before we have to go through it again. Unfortunately for Jannicke (Ingrid Bolso Berdal), she doesn’t have that option. As soon as her harrowing adventure ends in “Cold Prey,” it picks up right away in Mats Sternberg’s sequel, “Cold Prey 2,” now out on Blu-ray and DVD from the fine folks at Shout! Factory. No lie, they’ve been on something of a hot streak lately, which continues with this release. “Cold Prey 2” is nothing startling, but it’s a solid example of a slasher, one that stands along with the first film. When Jannicke wanders out of the mountains, half frozen, covered in blood,...

It's been 5 years since Mats Stenberg's Norwegian thriller 'Cold Prey 2' (Aka 'Fritt vilt II') came about and what's more surprising is the fact that it still hasn't landed on DVD in the Us. Of course this would be a pointless piece if we weren't bringing you news that all that is about to change. Shout! Factory will be responsible for finally unleashing this little kick ass sequel onto DVD stateside from 23rd April. The follow-up to the Roar Uthaug helmed horror from 2006, 'Cold Prey 2' picks up where the chilling action left off. Ingrid Bolso Berdal (below) stars alongside Marthe Snorresdotter Rovik, Kim Wifladt, Fridtjov Saheim, Johanna Morck and Mats Eldoen. Check the DVD artwork below....

There’s a bit of irony in the fact that filmmakers push males as the hero so often in horror films, when the heroine represents the ultimate overcoming of obstacles; theoretically, the female has significantly greater odds combating her plight. Included on the list is: Kate Beckinsale (Underworld, Underworld: Evolution, Underworld: Awakening), Milla Jovovich (Resident Evil, Resident Evil: Apocalypse, Resident Evil: Afterlife, Resident Evil: Retribution, 4. Neve Campbell (Scream, Scream 2, Scream 3, Scream 4), Ingrid Bolsø Berdal (Cold Prey, Fritt vilt II, Hansel and Gretal: Witch Hunters, Jamie Lee Curtis (Halloween, Halloween 2) and Sigourney Weaver (Alien, Aliens, Alien 3).

As most cinema-goers become mesmerised by Rooney Mara's performance as Lisbeth Salander in David Fincher's remake of 'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' lest we forget that is was in fact Noomi Rapace who also excelled in the same role in Niels Arden Oplev's Swedish original that first caught our eye. But today's snippet is focusing on Rapace's new Norwegian horror thriller 'Babycall'. The movie opened in its native Norway last October and is now set to arrive in UK theatres next month. 'Babycall' was written and directed by Pal Sletaune ('Next Door' Aka 'Naboer') and co-stars Kristoffer Joner and Vetle Qvenild Werring ('Cold Prey 2' Aka 'Fritt vilt II'). Rapace will be seen later this year in Ridley Scott's new sci-fi epic 'Prometheus'.

I gave Cold Prey 2 (aka Fritt Vilt II) a quiet nod in my 10 Examples Of a Pulse In The Modern Slasher article after fully acknowledging it's predecessor in my primary list. But last night I opted to give Cold Prey 2 another go-round. So last night, Heineken free and of sound mind I popped CP2 in the DVD player and prepped for a nice refresher.
Well, nice refresher isn't even a sufficient description. It's more like a slap in the face followed by a guttural voice echoing throughout my living room 'where were you the first time you watched this flick? No stranger to Heineken that night eh?!'
The picture is absolutely brilliant! Jannicke (Ingrid Bolse Berdal) is found freezing - pick axe in hand - in the Norwegian mountains. She's taken to a local hospital where she tells authorities of the horrific incidents that occurred (in Cold Prey), and...

I still haven't seen the original Cold Prey, but after watching the official teaser for its sequel I must say I'm looking forward to rectifying that by tracking it down. Roar Uthaug has passed the directing torch over to Mats Stenberg on this one but apparently the film takes place directly after the events of the first, so I imagine some consideration has been made to match the look and feel of original hit. The winter of 2006 five young friends met a brutal death in the Jotunheimen mountain range of Norway. Only a young woman survived. Cold and weak Jannicke struggles her way back to civilization. In the small local hospital the personnel are going through their daily routines. But then the bloody and beaten young woman is brought in. Later Jannicke wakes up in her hospital bed. But the hospital is darkened and not a living soul is in sight.
