It has been a busy few days for Dead by Daylight, as there have been a few different announcements that have caught the attention of the gaming community. First was the announcement of a Dungeons and Dragons collaboration, which will be released on June 3rd.
Then there was another announcement, which has taken the internet by storm as a collaboration to bring a very well-known character and horror icon into the game. A new collaboration with Konami’s Castlevania has also been announced to be in the works.
If You Thought Dead by Daylight Was Draining Before, Wait Till You See This New Killer Dead by Daylight brings a whole set of new killers this year.
There have been plenty of collaborations between different media franchises and Dead by Daylight, with killers like the xenomorph, Freddy Kreuger, and Nemesis, and now Dracula will enter the fold with the next collaboration with Castlevania.

Not to be confused with the 1986 Gary Paulsen novel that was on your fifth-grade reading list, Adam Green's 2007 slasher "Hatchet" was intended to be an homage to the plentiful stalk-and-kill movies from the 1980s. The first "Hatchet" takes place deep in the swamps of Louisana where feckless city-dwellers get lost while taking a swamp tour. They trade stories of Victor Crowley, a local kid with facial differences who, years ago, was trapped in a burning house set ablaze by prankster teens. Crowley was accidentally killed by his father when he recklessly used a hatchet to free him from the fire. Victor's spirit is now said to haunt the swamp and murder interlopers. Of course, Victor will appear to start the predicted murders.
Victor Crowley was played by stuntman Kane Hodder, perhaps best known for playing the masked killer Jason Voorhees in "Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood,...

Nearly 20 years in, John Kramer continues to kill it at the box office. "Saw X," the latest installment in Lionsgate's long-running horror franchise, has officially crossed the $100 million mark globally thanks to Wednesday's grosses. Not that the movie wasn't already a hit before, but it now gets to count itself alongside seven other "Saw" movies that have grossed at least that much money worldwide, making such an impressive benchmark more of a rule than an exception.
"Saw X" curently sits at $52.7 million domestically and $47.9 million internationally for a grand total of $100.6 million worldwide to date, per Box Office Mojo. Director Kevin Greutert's film has already been available on VOD for some time, so the milestone was crossed somewhat quietly. But the fact that enough people continued to see the film throughout the Halloween season and beyond -- despite the fact they could have just as easily watched it...

“Stranger Things” will haunt viewers long after it has ended. Even the idea of it ending is tragically terrifying. Built on a sinister kidnapping of a young Will Byers (Noah Schnapp) in Season 1 and most recently filled out in terms of The Upside Down mythology in Season 4, complete with a slimy squelchy villain named Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower), the Netflix series has no shortage of jump scares, creepy concepts and more.
Whether you’re a fan of graphic gory scenes or more psychologically thrilling moments, “Stranger Things” has four seasons’ worth of fright. Season 4 has been said to be the most scary, and the Duffer Brothers even listed “Nightmare on Elm Street” and “Hellraiser” as inspirations for the most recent season in contrast to the slightly more innocent “E.T.,” “Goonies” etc. for the earlier seasons, in which the kids were still actually kids.

In Greta Gerwig's blockbuster "Barbie," the title character (Margot Robbie) finds that she is experiencing phenomena that no Barbie has ever experienced before. While dancing with her friends, she has idle thoughts of her own mortality. The next morning, her fake food is spoiled and her fake shower is cold. Most notably, her feet -- ordinarily sculpted into a high-heels-ready point -- now walk flat on the ground. There is only one Barbie in Barbieland that might know what is happening: Weird Barbie (Kate McKinnon), an outcast who lives on the edge of town.
It becomes clear that all the Barbies in Barbieland are, in fact, the Platonic ideals of the dolls being played with by little girls back in the real world. Weird Barbie, with her bizarre facial tattoos and wildly trimmed hair, is clearly the Barbie that has been played with too roughly. A little girl has...

There are few names as synonymous with horror as Wes Craven's. This is the man who gifted us "A Nightmare on Elm Street," which gave us one of horror's all-time slasher villains in the form of Freddy Kreuger. He's also the man who, when it was all but dead, saved the slasher genre in remarkable fashion with the meta "Scream" in 1996. For as much as "Elm Street" was his calling card, it's easy to argue now that "Scream" is his greatest legacy. To that end, it's perhaps fitting that Craven's final movie (even if that wasn't the plan) was 2011's "Scream 4."

Who doesn't love a good crossover? Besides the fact that they settle nerds' constant debates of "who would win in a fight between ___ and ___?," there's something so exciting about seeing the main characters of two or more different franchises coming together for the first time ever. Another reason why crossovers have so much appeal with audiences is that there are often legal reasons why characters from one series can't mingle with those of another, making the times when they do meet on the big (or small) screen all the more special.
Crossovers got a massive boost in popularity due to the wildly successful Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, crossovers haven't only been relegated to the superhero realm; for decades, there have been numerous other examples of fictional worlds colliding across numerous genres. In fact, well before Nick Fury appeared at the end of "Iron Man" to tell Tony Stark about the Avengers Initiative,...

Stranger Things creators Matt and Ross Duffer have expanded on what fans can expect from the fifth and final season of their ’80s-set Netflix phenomenon.
The twin filmmakers were asked, during a Sunday night panel at the streamer’s Tudum Theater in Los Angeles, if there are new ’80s pop culture influences that will shape the final season, in the way that A Nightmare on Elm Street and its villain Freddy Kreuger shaped this summer’s two-part Season 4.
“[Season] 5, the way we see it, is kind of a culmination of all the seasons, so it’s got a little bit from each,” Ross Duffer told a packed house. “I think that what we’re trying to do is go back to the beginning a little bit, in sort of the tone of 1. But also scale-wise, it’s more aligned with what 4 is. So, hopefully, it’s got a little bit of everything.

This article contains major spoilers for "Halloween Ends."
Slasher villains often have a tendency to keep resurrecting themselves from beyond the grave. Why do you think Jason Voorhees, Freddy Kreuger, and Jigsaw have loads of sequels? Whether they become invincible, go to space, or get rebooted, the pulse of these monstrous murderers can only be felt if the box office revenue revives it from the grave. Michael Myers is no different and is arguably the most egregious of the bunch. It's a slasher tradition I wouldn't have any other way.
Some horror sequels will even offer up new blood to take on the mantle, which is what "Halloween Ends" appeared to be setting up. Babysitter turned accidental murderer Colin Cunningham (Rohan Campbell) is propped up as Michael's protege, killing alongside the famed slasher. It's a welcome twist on the "Halloween" series that makes David Gordon Green's concluding chapter feel more fun and unpredictable.

Wes Craven is considered one of the pioneers of the horror genre. Responsible for not only one genre-defining franchise ("A Nightmare on Elm Street") but two ("Scream"), Craven's work on scary movies cannot be discounted.
Of course, 1984's "A Nightmare on Elm Street" was perhaps Craven's greatest hit, achieving huge success even with a limited theater release. The first appearance of the terrifying dream hopper Freddy Kreuger, the movie was praised for its use of its small-town setting and the new monster myth it created. Freddy was so terrifying he wasn't only giving viewers nightmares; he was giving his actors nightmares. It was a comeback for Craven after some of his weaker film efforts, and it kickstarted a huge franchise all its own.

This post contains spoilers for "The Midnight Club."
"The Midnight Club" hit Netflix over the weekend, and the new horror series features more than just the many familiar faces of past Mike Flanagan works. On the cast list, nestled between Flanaverse favorites like Rahul Kohli and Henry Thomas and talented up-and-comers like Ruth Codd, is one of the best scream queens of all time: actor, producer, and special makeup effects coordinator Heather Langenkamp.
Langenkamp's name will likely be familiar for anyone who grew up on a steady diet of '80s horror films. The actress had her breakout role in 1984's "A Nightmare on Elm Street," where she played terrorized yet resilient 15-year-old Nancy Thompson. When Nancy and her friend Tina (Amanda Wyss) begin having nightmares about a knife-handed man who seems intent on hurting them despite living in their unconscious minds, the legend of Freddy Kreuger is born.

The 1980s was a great decade for horror, with classics like “The Shining,” “The Fly,” and two “Evil Dead” movies. Effects were largely practical (not computer-generated) and genre giants Wes Craven, John Carpenter, Sam Raimi and David Cronenberg were making some of their most iconic movies ever.

Winnie the Pooh, Winnie the Pooh, willy, silly, old bear is coming for you! One imagines that the filmmakers behind Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey would absolutely love to include lyrics like those above in their new Winnie the Pooh slasher movie. It’d be as if Disneyland’s Main Street intersected with Freddy Kreuger’s Elm! However, for much of the same reason that “Winnie-the-Pooh” is nigh unrecognizable in the Blood and Honey trailer, there’s a reason you’ll never hear the above riff on the iconic song in the new movie: the filmmakers behind Blood and Honey legally aren’t allowed to use it.
Indeed, the below Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey trailer hit the internet like a ton of bricks Wednesday morning when it revealed relatively modest (and formulaic) scares going down in the Hundred Acre Wood, with Winnie and his pal Piglet hunting and seemingly...

We’ve all had that experience, especially as kids, when the darkness of bedtime is as terrifying as anything in any horror movie. I remember after seeing the original A Nightmare on Elm Street for the first time being absolutely Terrified that Freddy Kreuger would reach out for my feet sticking out of my bed covers and take me off into the night.
That’s essentially what happens in The Eyes Below. Eugène goes to bed. Everything is calm and silent. About to fall asleep, something creeps up his legs, his stomach and then his chest. A mass, so heavy that he realises the night won’t be as peaceful as he thought…
French writer/director Alexis Bruchon made something of an impact with his first film, the noirish The Woman With Leopard Shoes, which told its story in a very minimalistic way.

“Chapter Four: Dear Billy” has been one of the most talked-about episodes of the year from one of the most talked-about shows, “Stranger Things.” The suspenseful fourth installment of the show’s fourth season put the character Max (Sadie Sink) in mortal danger as the investigation into the creature Vecna continued. Now it has been submitted seven times for Emmy consideration, and if it wins all seven categories it will set a new record as the most awarded episode in Emmy history.

The horror for “Stranger Things 4” has truly been turned up to Eleven.
Just ask Millie Bobby Brown, who plays gifted teen Eleven. According to co-star Jamie Campbell Bower, Brown couldn’t even look at season villain Vecna, played by Bower.
“They brought her up into a position where she’s bound. I walked up to her [as Vecna] and she burst into tears,” Bower told Variety. “She wouldn’t look at me and she was visibly just disgusted by the whole thing.”
However, Brown calmed down after she knew it was Bower under the prosthetics.
“After she cried and I made it obvious that she knew it was me, one of the things she said was that, ‘I knew it was you when I could smell cigarettes,’ because I’m a smoker,” Bower added.

“I always wanted to be a monster maker,” reveals special makeup effects designer Barrie Gower. “It was my childhood dream.” The Emmy-winner has made that dream a reality with his impressive prosthetic work on projects like “Game of Thrones,” “The Green Knight” and “Chernobyl.” His latest creation is Vecna, the terrifying new villain who stalks the kids of Hawkins, Indiana during Season 4 of “Stranger Things.” Watch the exclusive video interview above.
“It was super exciting to get the call to join ‘Stranger Things,’” gushes Gower, who notes that his family was a group of super fans. The Duffer Brothers were fans of his work, particularly with the impressive build for The Night King on “Game of Thrones.” “They were looking to have their own iconic villain,” explains the makeup designer. Despite not having worked on the Netflix series prior to Season 4, Gower says the creatives quickly made him feel right at home.

Nobody did better with horror franchises than Wes Craven, who reinvigorated the genre in this relentlessly bloody thriller. Its self-referential gimmick should have been exploited decades before: what if the teenagers in movies were like real teenagers that watch horror movies. . . and that must rely on their movie knowledge when confronted with R-rated carnage? 25 years later the show holds up well, at least until the final revelations. Kevin Williamson’s screenplay and Mark Irwin’s camerawork make Drew Barrymore, Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox and Rose McGowan the most attractive and intelligent horror scream queens since Peggy Cummins tried to kick some sense into Dana Andrews.

Tonight, Rami Malek made his debut appearance as host of SNL, touching in his opening monologue on his love of playing bad guys—including a new Bond villain, No Time to Die‘s Lyutsifer Safin.
“You know, I’ve played a lot of dramatic roles in my career—most recently, the new Bond villain—but I don’t usually do comedy,” the Oscar winner said. “I tend to do these really intense characters, which makes a lot of sense because people tell me I have what’s called a ‘resting villain face.'”
Malek knows that most people “would rather” play the hero. Weirdly, though, he’s “always been more drawn” to villains.
“I sympathize with them, you know? In Lion King, I’m Team Scar. I actually found Simba to be kind of annoying,” he admitted. “You want to be king? You’re like three years old. Relax.”

It’s a little surprising that Marvel was the company to come up with a Freddy Krueger comic in 1989 since back then one might have believed that horror comics weren’t really the direction that Marvel comics were bound to go. Despite this, the comic that was developed was kind of intriguing since it brought in a child of one of the parents responsible for Freddy’s death in the first place, Julian Quinn, and a young woman named Allison who were both adamant about fighting Freddy and taking him on in the dream world. Set after the Dream Warriors movie, the

The horror genre may continue to be one of Hollywood’s most profitable enterprises, with the majority of low-budget efforts tending to do decent business at the box office based on folks’ continued love of being scared out of their seats, but despite how many franchises have popped up in recent years, with the exception of Saw‘s Jigsaw and It‘s Pennywise, we haven’t seen many iconic characters that can hold a candle to the famous faces that dominated the 1980s.
No matter how many horror sequels are churned out on an annual basis, when it comes to naming the most recognizable villains that the genre has ever seen, veterans like Leatherface, Michael Myers, Jason Voorhees, Pinhead and Freddy Kreuger are always the first ones that come to mind. Of course, every single one of them has fallen victim to the law of diminishing returns over the years,...

Desus and Mero have a message for anyone who played for the NBA in the 1990s: You have a standing invitation to be a guest on the duo’s late-night series on Showtime.
The hosts of “Desus and Mero” joined Variety this week for a live webcast interview that touched on everything from ESPN’s buzzy docu-series “The Last Dance” to how the pair are dealing with fame and adjusting to hosting the twice-weekly show from their homes.
Desus, aka Daniel Baker, and the Kid Mero, aka Joel Martinez, agreed that doing the show that revolves around the two riffing on headlines and trending pop culture topics is a form of therapy for the hosts and fans, especially in these troubled times.
“We’re like a human stress ball,” said Mero. “If you’re stressed out about things happening in the world, put it on and let it go.”

Ironically, Robert Englund even with the voice of Freddy Krueger and not the overall look, is the kind of character that makes a person feel Less safe at home. His PSA is much like any other celebrity’s in that it’s meant to entertain and to get the attention of those that somehow still aren’t getting the lesson that it’s time to just keep your butt home and forget about going outside unless there’s something you really happen to need. How anyone isn’t taking the coronavirus seriously at this point is hard to imagine since it has managed to sweep across

Stephen King’s go-to adaptation director may be branching out into another horror icon’s territory soon enough if he gets his way. Well known for being one of the better directors in the genre these days, Mike Flanagan has apparently been dreaming up ideas for a new Nightmare on Elm Street flick. And now, he’s let everyone know to sleep with one eye open.
We told you earlier this week that Wes Craven’s estate is actively looking for pitches to continue Freddy Kreuger’s murderous exploits in either film, TV or both. Flanagan, taking this news in stride, tweeted today a simple but effective pitch to allow himself to pitch his idea:
Put me in, coach… I’ve got a pitch! https://t.co/LPUq8hDd88

According to what ScreenRant’s Kara Hadash has indicated there were a few key elements to the emergence of Wes Craven’s movie Nightmare on Elm Street, and it’s kind of interesting if also tragic since it came about from a very unfortunate occurrence. Apparently when he was younger and still in something of a slump as a director he caught wind of a child that had fled their home country with their parents and had dreamed that some nightmarish force was following him from the location they’d left. The child was absolutely terrified to go to sleep, and as a result

"Horror chose me... It's unique that my biggest success has been in the horror genre." Cult Screenings has debuted two teaser trailers for their latest project - Icon: The Robert Englund Story. As that title very clearly indicates, this is a documentary about horror icon Robert Englund, the American actor who played the role of Freddy Kreuger in the beloved horror franchise A Nightmare on Elm Street. It's made by the same team behind the RoboDoc, and Pennywise doc, and it's launching on Indiegogo next month to finish up with funding so it can be released soon (likely in 2020 but maybe even later this year if they pull it off). "This documentary will explore who the man behind the mask truly is, charting his early days in TV and film to his current stratospheric status in the horror universe." I'm glad to see this doc covering his entire career, and all of his different roles,...

Fans of hit horror comedy show Ash vs. Evil Dead had to endure heavy sadness last year, when it was announced, due to declining viewership, that the show was to be axed. Despite a heavily backed fan petition for its return for a potential fourth season, the revival was ultimately not to be and all hope was lost. That is, until now.
Dead By Daylight developer Behaviour Interactive, together with Ash vs. Evil Dead star Bruce Campbell, confirmed today that a crossover Dlc for the asymmetrical horror game is in the works. In addition to that, they released a video featuring Campbell and some brief in-game footage of what players can expect from the upcoming content, which can be found below.

Between Saving Private Ryan and Ready Player One—the critically acclaimed adaptation of Ernest Cline’s 2011 novel—VFX supervisor Roger Guyett has been along for the ride on two of the most demanding projects of Steven Spielberg’s career.
An entirely different animal than the former picture—a 1998 war drama which won five Oscars—Ready Player Onewas “a really complicated movie to make.” Containing close to 1500 digital effects shots, the film was crafted through a “multi-tiered animation approach,” consisting of motion capture, more traditional keyframe animation techniques, and pure computer animation.
Set in a dystopian Columbus, Ohio in the year 2045, the adventure pic follows Wade Watts (Tye Sheridan), an orphaned teenager coming of age at a time when people need an escape, and have found one in technology. It’s in the Oasis, a virtual reality software devised by James Halliday (Mark Rylance), that Wade can be whoever he wants to be.

Robert Englund has said time and time again that he has retired from playing the role of Freddy Kreuger from Wes Craven’s A Nightmare on Elm Street, but yet again he keeps going back on that statement – not that I’m complaining. And the man is at it again this Halloween as he will be re-donning […]

Long before any sort of justice had ever dawned, Freddy vs. Jason hit theaters and to this day, is still remembered as the first notable crossover between two major horror franchises. Since then, we’ve received a couple Alien vs. Predator movies, the second of which was so bad that Fox split them back into their own separate entities, and to a much, much lesser extent, Lake Placid vs. Anaconda.
Believe it or not, though, the road to getting the dream mashup between the two slashers made was a difficult one. With the first seeds having been planted in the closing moments of 1993’s Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday, you’d have thought it’d be smooth sailing. In reality, though, it was quite the opposite.

Zel (Laurie Calvert) is sleepwalking through life, part-funded by parental handouts and interrupted only occasionally by other people. He has a crush on a neighbour (Felicity Gilbert) and is in conflict with his boss at work, situations that he lacks the confidence or constitution to resolve. When another neighbour, Elliot (Billy Zane), suggests that he use lucid dreaming to rehearse different problem solving scenarios in his sleep, Zel starts to draw strength from his successes in the subconscious. However, when these increasingly vivid extrapolations become indistinguishable from real-life decisions he starts to lose his grip on reality.

Over the years, we’ve laid eyes on all sorts of horror-tinged crossovers, be it the skin-crawling nightmare that is Alien vs. Predator or Ronny Yu’s iconic Freddy vs. Jason and all of its brutal, yet memorable kills.
There is one that’s eluded reality, though, and that’s Freddy Vs. Pinhead, a hypothetical project that would have placed the clawed Freddy Kreuger on a collision course with the legendary Cenobite, whose masochism and torture methods know no bounds.
Thankfully, the incredibly talented Stryder HD (h/t Screen Geek) has cut together a concept trailer for Freddy Vs. Pinhead, which pulls footage from a number of cult horror films including A Nightmare on Elm Street and its two sequels, The Dream Master and Final Nightmare, before adding a touch of Hellraiser into the mix with Hellbound and Clive Barker’s 1987 classic.
