Jake Gyllenhaal suffers no fools in the first trailer for “Road House.”
The forthcoming remake of the 1989 cult classic finds Gyllenhaal starring as a former Mma fighter whose new life has him defending the honor of a Florida dive bar and its patrons from a wicked real estate baron.
Directed by Doug Liman, “Road House” will have its premiere at this year’s South by Southwest Film Festival before hitting Amazon Prime Video on March 21. That the film will bypass movie theaters entirely before debuting on the streaming service has become a source of contention between Amazon and Liman. In a piece published Wednesday by Deadline, Liman wrote that he felt betrayed by Amazon, which acquired the rights to “Road House” after the company bought MGM. Liman wrote that he made “Road House” with an eye toward theatrical release, similar to how MGM films like “Creed III” first went to theaters before a streaming bow.

The 1989 film Road House gets transported from Missouri to Florida in the first official trailer for Prime Video’s Road House. In place of Patrick Swayze’s James Dalton, Jake Gyllenhaal leads the film as Edward Dalton, an ex-UFC fighter helping to keep rowdy clientele at a Florida Keys roadhouse in check.
“He acts all nice and shit, like he’s Mister Rogers or something,” one character, played by Arturo Castro, says in the clip. “But then he beats the living shit out of you.” He would know, having...

Jake Gyllenhaal is the Mr. Rogers of bar brawls in the first look at Doug Liman’s updated take on the Patrick Swayze and Sam Elliott 1989 classic, Road House.
In the trailer, which is nearly two and a half minutes of nonstop knockouts, Gyllenhaal leads as Elwood Dalton, an ex-UFC middleweight fighter who takes one too many hits, and it’s not clear he can — or wants to — get back up. He’s living out of his beat-up car and participating in underground fighting rings when he’s found by Jessica Williams’ bar owner, who invites him to come work for her.
“A friend of mine suggested I come talk to you. I own a roadhouse out in the Florida Keys. Lately it’s been attracting the wrong clientele,” she tells him. “I can pay you good money. Judging by your car, you need that shit.”

Scarlett Johansson was more than excited to work with Star Wars star Ewan McGregor in the Michael Bay’s The Island. When it came time for the two to make out, however, Johansson had an interesting take on her co-star’s kissing skills.

Johansson once confided that the Fargo actor was one of her main reasons for doing The Island. The movie saw Johansson and McGregor playing a pair of clones trying to escape from a secret facility. She’d gotten the film’s script while doing another movie, and was immediately drawn to the project.
“I love genre movies when they are done really well. I think they accomplish what a film is trying to do – allow you to escape your life for a couple of hours and I was bowled over on my own when I read the script.

Director Gotham Chopra worked with Netflix to create the four-episode series McGregor Forever, which follows mixed martial artist superstar Conor McGregor.
It showcases his career in the UFC and how his past fights have led to his success today. McGregor is at a point where he could retire soon, as the typical retirement age of a UFC fighter is around age 35, but he has no plans to do so. In an exclusive with uInterview, Chopra discusses McGregor’s success and how he will continue to fight past retirement age.
“Conor also has a work ethic that he’s willing to do the work and I’ve never been around him where he compromises on that, so I think there’s more fighting to be done,” Chopra said.
Part of the series’ success is due to the access they have to archives from the beginning of McGregor’s career.

As Luke Skywalker stated so accurately in "The Last Jedi," "No one's ever really gone." Franchises these days have been working overtime to keep fans and general audiences hooked from one installment to the next, pulling out all the stops to make sure that the surrounding buzz is only matched by the box office profits. The Marvel Cinematic Universe has turned resurrections and surprise returns into a cottage industry, living up to the comic book creed that characters are never truly dead unless you see the body -- and even then, that's no guarantee either. Meanwhile, the "Fast & Furious" films had already brought back Michelle Rodriguez's Letty and Sung Kang's Han from certain death before the latest movie, "Fast X," ended with the inexplicable return of yet another long-dead hero.
But none of these examples can quite compare to the precedent set by "Star Wars" over the years.

Might Natalie Portman be the next former “Star Wars” actor to return to the galaxy far, far away? The Oscar-winning star – who could be a Best Actress contender again in 2024 thanks to her new film “May December” – recently told GQ she’d be “open” to a “Star Wars” return.
“I have no information on this,” Portman said in response to a fan comment in the GQ video. “No one’s ever asked me to return, but I’m open to it.”
Starting in “Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace,” Portman played Padme Amidala, the Queen of Naboo and a senator in the Galactic Senate. Padme had a lengthy romantic relationship with Anakin Skywalker (played as an adult in “Episode II” and “Episode III” by Hayden Christensen) and was the mother of Luke and Leia. McGregor Forever is a documentary series about Conor McGregor in May on Netflix.
Conor McGregor was the first to win two titles in two different categories, but that was just the beginning: cover of Time magazine, $100 million fortune, media attention… The most famous Irishman in the world?
The UFC’s biggest star was born in Dublin and the road to the top was not easy. After starting out as a plumber (like in Mario Bros), he specialized in mixed martial arts. The rest is history, and in this documentary McGregor’s fans will have the opportunity to enjoy the fighter’s comments and share his illusions and the story of a career of successes, dreams and ups and downs.
A great opportunity for lovers of this sport and of this guy who, with his attractive personality, his dedication and tenacity, has been able to connect so well with the public.

Bolstered by robust public-sector funds, a savvy new generation of filmmakers — many of them women — and world-class film schools, Catalonia has become one of Europe’s most vibrant regional audiovisual forces.
The proof can be found at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. More than 50 Catalan companies — some 100 executives and creatives — are expected to attend. Five films, four by new directors, have made the official cut at Cannes; six projects play in Marché du Film showcases.
The three biggest Catalan movies at the festival, Elena Martin’s “Creature,” Pham Thiên An’s “Inside the Yellow Cocoon Shell,” both in Directors’ Fortnight, and Pablo Berger’s “Robot Dreams,” playing out of competition, also underscore strong trends coursing through current Catalan cinema, including international co-production and an exploding animation scene.

Ever since its May 25, 1977, theatrical release, "Star Wars" has been inspiring kids to dive headlong into its richly imagined universe. Children could spin their own fantastic tales with action figures and playsets, or lose themselves in the franchise's many video game spin-offs. You could immerse yourself in that galaxy far, far away for hours on end, and take the saga in all kinds of directions.
But there was nothing more fun than hitting the playground of your elementary school and acting out the characters in impromptu stories of your own devising. You could create blasters out of LEGOs or fabricate one with your fingers. As for lightsabers, everything from wiffle-ball bats to sticks would do. And when you dueled with your friends, you enhanced the experience by making the trademark humming noise created by Academy Award-winning sound designer Ben Burtt.

First things first, we got a renewal! It's always a relief when you can enjoy the rest of the season without fear that the series' future will hang in the balance.
They're hitting us hard with some Grace Ryder content on the back end, and 9-1-1: Lone Star Season 4 Episode 15 predominately focused on how a case got under her skin and prompted her to take down an organ trafficking ring with help from Carlos.
Carlos and Grace are one of the most underrated duos in this series.
We were also dealt an emotionally crushing blow to Owen as it saw Chad Lowe's return as Owen's half-brother, Robert, with some devastating health news that could affect both Owen and T.K.
And there was also a special reunion treat for Firefly fans with Adam Baldwin guest-starring and even sharing a brief scene with Gina Torres.

As far as 9-1-1: Lone Star goes, it doesn’t get much more more intense — or heartbreaking — than Tuesday’s episode.
The hour largely centered around a kidney harvesting ring in Austin, one to which Grace developed a personal connection after a victim she helped over the phone ended up dying in the hospital. When the authorities looked at this young woman more like a criminal than a victim, as is the case with so many Black and brown women, Grace felt she had no choice but to step in and find the guy who took her kidney.

This Star Wars article contains spoilers for Obi-Wan Kenobi.
While Lucasfilm may be hitting lightspeed with three new Star Wars movies and several more TV series, there’s one show that, at least for the moment, will be left behind. Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy has confirmed that a second season of Obi-Wan Kenobi starring Ewan McGregor won’t be in the works any time soon.
“That is not an active development,” Kennedy revealed to Variety during Star Wars Celebration Europe 2023. “But I never say never, because there’s always the possibility. That show was so well-received and [director] Deborah Chow did such a spectacular job. Ewan McGregor really wants to do another. Everybody’s all hands on deck with what we’re doing right now, as you can see by what we showed everybody [at the Celebration]. We’ll turn our attention to that again maybe down the road.”

There are some moments in filmmaking that must truly have been breathtaking to witness on set. For me, several of those exist within the "Star Wars" franchise. From Vader's "I am your father" line in "The Empire Strikes Back" to "The Duel of the Fates" lightsaber battle between Obi-Wan Kenobi, Qui-Gon Jin, and Darth Maul in "The Phantom Menace," there are plenty of times when jaws must have dropped while filming. Now we can add the lightsaber battle between Obi-Wan (Ewan McGregor) and Darth Vader (Hayden Christensen) on the Disney+ series "Obi-Wan Kenobi," because apparently, the whole crew stopped to watch. (And who can blame them?)
McGregor and Christensen had plenty of experience working together from their time in the prequel movies, and they did most of their lightsaber fighting themselves. At a Star Wars Celebration 2023 panel in London, attended by /Film's Hannah Shaw-Williams, "Obi-Wan Kenobi" director Deborah Chow,...

Last year's limited Disney+ series "Obi-Wan Kenobi" was a long time in the making. Looking back on the journey during a panel at Star Wars Celebration 2023 (where myself and other members of the /Film team have been on the ground this weekend), Ewan McGregor recalled that discussions about his return began "years before we made the series ... It was going to be a movie, and then it was going to be a TV show."
By the time the cameras actually started rolling on the show, almost two decades had passed since McGregor had last been on set and locked in a lightsaber battle with Hayden Christensen, who plays Obi-Wan's doomed padawan, Anakin Skywalker. "Obi-Wan Kenobi" is set in the aftermath of "Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith," when its titular Jedi master has escaped the slaughter of Order 66, but lost his connection to the Force. Casting for a big franchise project can often be very secretive, but when it came to casting a vital role for the Disney+ "Obi-Wan Kenobi" series, Disney and Lucasfilm took secretive to a new level. The Force is not with Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2. Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy revealed that a second season of the Star Wars series won’t happen anytime soon, if it happens at all. “That is not an active development,” Kennedy told Variety when asked about a possible second season for the Ewan McGregor-led show. “But I never say never, because there’s always the possibility. That show was so well-received and [director] Deborah Chow did such a spectacular job.” Kennedy said that McGregor — who starred as the eponymous Jedi master, reprising his role from the Star Wars prequel trilogy — “really wants to do” another season of Obi-Wan Kenobi. Ewan McGregor has had a prolific career on screen since his feature-film debut in 1994. The actor rose to fame following his gritty portrayal of Mark Renton in the 1996 film "Trainspotting" and continued to rise in Hollywood after appearing in films like "Emma" and "Velvet Goldmine." Arguably, the actor became universally popular as Obi-Wan Kenobi in the 1997 film "Star Wars: Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace," which helped pave the way for roles in other blockbuster films like "Moulin Rouge!" and "Black Hawk Down" in the early 2000s.
Most recently, McGregor played Danny Torrance in "Doctor Sleep" and reprised his Obi-Wan Kenobi character in the "Obi-Wan Kenobi" miniseries, which concluded in June 2022.
Outside of his packed work schedule over the years, McGregor is also a father to his five children, four of whom he shares with ex-wife Eve Mavrakis. After the "Birds of Prey" actor split from Mavrakis in 2017, he started...

In an interesting turn of events, 2022 happens to be the year of "Pinocchio" remakes. Earlier this year, the classic Carlo Collodi story about the little wooden boy was retold by Walt Disney Pictures and Robert Zemeckis, but it didn't capture the hearts of fans or critics like the studio's ground-breaking animated version did back in 1940. Next month, it's Netflix and Guillermo del Toro's turn to tackle the tale of the adventurous puppet with the help of stop-motion animation pioneer Mark Gustafson, whose work includes "The California Raisins Show," "The PJs," and "Fantastic Mr. Fox."
