Claymation legends Nick Park and Merlin Crossingham will offer stop-motion fans a sneak peek at their upcoming Wallace & Gromit film at this year’s Annecy animation festival.
The still-untitled feature will see inveterate, cheese-loving inventor Wallace designing a “smart gnome” for the family garden who begins to develop a mind of its own. As events spiral out of control, it is up to faithful dog Gromit to put things right. Park and Crossingham co-directed the film, based on a story by Park and a screenplay from Shaun the Sheep and Gnomeo & Juliet writer Mark Burton.
The film, which will premiere on Netflix worldwide outside the U.K., where it will have a first-release window on the BBC, is the second feature from Aardman Animations based on the beloved characters, following the Oscar-winning Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit (2005) and the series of award-winning shorts, including Oscar-winners The Wrong...

A long-developing comic book series starring Diego Boneta has found a home at Amazon’s Prime Video.
The tech giant’s streaming service has ordered El Gato, based on the comic El Gato Negro by Richard Dominguez. Boneta (Luis Miguel: The Series, the 2022 Father of the Bride) will play the title character in the thriller, a man who finds himself at the center of a vast conspiracy when he discovers his father was a 1970s vigilante, “El Gato.”
The project was initially set up at Apple TV+ more than four years ago, with Boneta attached. At the time, Robert Rodriguez was in line to direct and executive produce, but he’s no longer involved. El Gato Negro comes from Amazon MGM Studios — MGM was behind the show before Amazon acquired it — and creator Eric Carrasco (Foundation, Supergirl, Netflix’s upcoming Twilight of the Gods), who will executive produce and...

Zack Snyder has been a busy boy since his guardianship of the DC movie universe came to an end following principal photography on "Justice League." Though he eventually returned to finish his version of that film, the multi-hyphenate filmmaker has since settled in firmly at Netflix and is focusing on original stories rather than pre-existing franchises. Among these projects is "Twilight of the Gods," a 2D animated action series based on Norse mythology.
The project marks another return to Snyder's filmmaking roots. He made his feature directorial debut in 2004 with the very well-received remake of George Romero's "Dawn of the Dead," and his first project for Netflix was the Las Vegas-set undead action horror "Army of the Dead." Snyder's second feature-length film debuted back in 2006 and secured his status as a rising talent to watch: the epic historical war movie "300," inspired by the legendary Battle of Thermopylae. Much has changed at Warner Bros. Discovery following the merger between WarnerMedia and Discovery earlier this year. CEO David Zaslav is completely overhauling the company's streaming strategy as well as DC Films, with a new 10-year plan for DC said to be in place. That has meant a lot of projects being canceled. Aside from "Batgirl," which has (rightfully) received a great deal of attention, the anthology series "Strange Adventures" was also scrapped at HBO Max. It turns out, we probably lost something with a lot of potential in the process.
Kevin Smith ("Clerks") had been on deck to direct one of the episodes, one which he co-wrote alongside Eric Carrasco ("Supergirl") that would have centered on Bizarro, an alternate universe "mirror image" of Superman from the pages of DC Comics. As Smith previously revealed, the hope was to get none other than Nicolas Cage to play Bizarro, given that...

Greg Berlanti’s DC series “Strange Adventures” has been scrapped at HBO Max and is no longer going forward at the streamer, according to an individual with knowledge of the project.
First announced in 2019, “Strange Adventures,” was going to be a DC Super Hero anthology series executive produced by Berlanti, that was supposed to feature characters from across the DC canon. The one-hour drama series would have explored close-ended morality tales about the intersecting lives of mortals and superhumans.
Filmmaker Kevin Smith, who was set to direct and co-write an episode of the series with “Supergirl” writer Eric Carrasco, broke the news on his Hollywood Babble-On podcast.

Smith was set to co-write and direct an episode of “Strange Adventures” as part of the anthology series around lesser-known DC characters. Smith recently shared on his “Hollywood Babble-On” YouTube show that HBO Max scrapped the series, executive-produced by Greg Berlanti.
The “Clerks” director explained that he was writing an episode of “Strange Adventures” with “Supergirl” collaborator Eric Carrasco. The episode was expected to center on Jimmy Olsen and Bizarro, with Nicolas Cage being eyed for the role of Bizarro.

Another DC Comics property has gotten the axe at HBO Max.
Strange Adventures, an anthology series from executive producer Greg Berlanti that was to feature some lesser-known characters from the DC universe, isn’t moving forward at the streamer, HBO Max confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter. Filmmaker Kevin Smith, who was set to direct and co-write an episode of the series, said on his Hollywood Babble-On podcast that the show was dead.
Smith discussed Strange Adventures’ fate in the context of Warner Bros. Discovery’s decision to kill its Batgirl movie, which the company said “reflects our leadership’s strategic shift as it relates to the DC universe and HBO Max.” CEO David Zaslav suggested during Wbd’s quarterly earnings call last week that the 90 million film wasn’t big enough to release theatrically but was too expensive to release directly to straming.

Mattel Television and Netflix released the first look “Masters of the Universe: Revelation,” and it turns out the characters — including He-Man, Skeletor, Teela and Orko — look a lot like they did on the beloved 1980s animated series “He-Man and the Masters of the Universe,” just a bit glowed up.
They also announced the show will premiere globally on July 23.
Since the series was announced in 2019, fans have been speculating just what executive producer and showrunner Kevin Smith — writer-director of “Clerks,” “Chasing Amy” and “Dogma” — would be doing with the property. As the images make clear, Smith and the team at Powerhouse Animation (also the animation studio behind Netflix’s “Castlevania” series) are paying homage not just to the look of the original series, but its storylines as well.

If we’re being honest, Kevin Smith hasn’t exactly had a home run for a while. The well-known director – who rose to prominence in the ’90s with hits such as Dogma, Clerks and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back – hasn’t seen much success from his past few projects. 2016’s Yoga Hosers, for instance, was universally panned by critics and audiences alike – it couldn’t even break the $40,000 threshold at the box office.
While Smith has perhaps stayed in the spotlight as more of a pop culture icon than a filmmaker, it seems like he’s looking to turn things around. Later this year, Jay and Silent Bob Reboot (which is shaping up to be rather raunchy) will hit theaters, and as ComicBook.com reports, he has an entirely new project in the works for the small screen, too.

Kevin Smith will be spearheading a Masters of the Universe: Revelation anime series for Netflix.
After bringing She-Ra and The Princesses of Power to the streaming world, Netflix will continue to delve the He-Man extended universe for gold.
Filmmaker Kevin Smith announced at Power-Con in Anaheim on Sunday that he will be bringing an animated Masters of the Universe series called Masters of the Universe: Revelation to Netflix.
Smith, a prolific tweeter and podcaster, has intimated over the past year that he had been working on a project surrounding a major IP. His tweet promoting he and Marc Bernardin's podcast Fatman Beyond live podcast appearance at Power-Con now makes a bit more sense.

Kevin Smith surprised audiences at Sunday’s annual Power-Con convention by announcing a new anime “He-Man” series for Netflix.
The new series, titled “Masters of the Universe: Revelation,” will take place in the Mattel toy inspired world and will focus on some of the unresolved storylines of the classic ‘80s show. Smith will serve as showrunner and executive producer.
“I’m Eternia-ly grateful to Mattel TV and Netflix for entrusting me with not only the secrets of Grayskull, but also their entire Universe,” Smith said. “In ‘Revelation,’ we pick up right where the classic era left off to tell an epic tale of what may be the final battle between He-Man and Skeletor! Brought to life with the most metal character designs Powerhouse Animation can contain in the frame, this is the Masters of the Universe story you always wanted to see as a kid!”

I have always been a big Legion of Super-Heroes fan and early on, designated Star Boy as my favorite Legionnaire. Maybe it’s because he was an underdog hero, but I’ve always liked him so was thrilled to see he would take center stage in the just-released Justice League vs. the Fatal Five. I admit to being a little less than thrilled they were going with the mentally unbalanced Star Boy as depicted in the Brad Meltzer run of Justice League. But, by pairing him with agoraphobic Jessica Cruz, I could understand the larger themes at work, I was fine with it.
I just wish their final product lived up to their intentions (and all the high-faulting hype seen on the bonus material). Instead, we get an over-stuffed, under-edited work that makes very little sense.

Justice League vs. The Fatal Five is a reunion of talent and style that bridges the old and the new.
Nearly 27 years after the Bruce Timm-developed DC Animated Universe began in 1992 with Batman: The Animated Series, and 13 after it ended in 2006 with Justice League Unlimited, the so-called Timm-verse is … well, not quite back. Yet the new animated film Justice League vs. The Fatal Five is a reunion of talent, and style, but with a new class of heroes joining the iconic characters (and the actors who voiced them) for a largely satisfying adventure.
Executive produced by Timm, the film reunites Kevin Conroy, Susan Eisenberg, and George Newbern to voice, respectively, Batman, Wonder Woman, and Superman – roles for which their performances are definitive. Visually the movie also looks like the Justice League Unlimited animation style, complete with character Easter eggs that call back to heroes (and a couple Arkham...

Whenever an iconic character gets cast and recast over time, certain actors will naturally resonate with fans more than others – and there are some who just don’t go over well at all. In the case of Lex Luthor, I think many folks reading this will agree with me in saying that Michael Rosenbaum proved himself to be the best while on Smallville. But, to be quite honest, the guy has some serious competition now.
As you may know, Jon Cryer debuted as Lex during last night’s episode of Supergirl, that being “O Brother, Where Art Thou?” And while viewers went in skeptical due to the veteran actor’s history with the comedy genre, they were pleasantly proven wrong and ended up going absolutely nuts for the former Two and a Half Men star. Additionally, I’m not afraid to say that I, too, thought Cryer did a phenomenal job.

The Justice League will face off against a classic group of villains in a new animated movie. Here's the first trailer...
Fans of the Bruce Timm era of DC animated adventures such as Batman: The Animated Series and Justice League are in for a treat: the company's next animated movie, Justice League vs. The Fatal Five, is a nostalgic return to Timm's iconic art style. In fact, if you look closely, the new movie recaptures quite a few of the designs from Justice League Unlimited, including the longer ears on Batman's cowl.
As you'd expect, the movie pits DC's pantheon of heroes against the Fatal Five, a group of supervillains from the 30th century. While they're usually the Legion of Super-Heroes' problem, these baddies have traveled back in time to give Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and the rest a hard time.

Ever since Mehcad Brooks was originally cast as James “Jimmy” Olsen for Supergirl, I and others couldn’t help but notice he didn’t quite have the nerdy appearance we’ve come to know from the character. In fact, I maintained from the beginning that he looked much more like a superhero.
In fact, I remember some fans using crafty photo editing to place Brooks as Val-Zod, the Superman known from Earth 2 comics and, trust me, what I saw was quite believable. And although James may not be Kryptonian, I’m guessing the producers working on the series noticed the actor’s impressive build along the way, perhaps influencing them to evolve him into the Guardian.
After giving criminals on the streets of National City one more person to fear throughout season 2, Olsen has since taken a step back from the vigilante lifestyle in season 3, instead focusing on his duties of running CatCo.

Chris Woods’ Mon-El has been part of Supergirl since the beginning of season 2 but, to date, we haven’t seen him wear the character’s red and blue costume from the comics. Ever since joining up with the Legion of Superheroes this year, he’s just settled for that boring go-to on-screen super-suit – black leather. At last, though, he’s about to get a fashion upgrade, as these new photos from an upcoming episode confirm that the Superman-coloured costume is on its way.
From how it looks in these images, Supergirl‘s costume designers have once again done an awesome job of faithfully replicating a suit from the comics. In fact, this might even be their best effort yet.
Tellingly, there’s a logo-shaped hole on his chest that makes it look like Mon-El will soon be sporting the ‘S’ shield as the character often does in the source material.

Really, aside from the joyous news confirming that Supergirl will be returning for a fourth season, word regarding the Maiden of Might’s small screen adventures has been quite mum in recent memory, no doubt making the extended hiatus even more agonizing for her fans to endure.

Even with an extended hiatus looming, it sure does look like Supergirl will squeeze in a fair amount of memorable moments within the four episodes set to air over the next few weeks. For starters, the Legion of Super-Heroes will be making their presence known in the midseason premiere itself.
So far, the network has been slowly pulling back the curtain on each individual member of one of DC’s oldest and most beloved super teams. Not long ago, we got our first look at Brainiac 5 and, more recently, we saw both Mon-El and Saturn Girl suit up.
But with the next episode now being merely hours away, the cat has been partially let out of the bag. To be more specific, our latest treat comes in the form of an actual clip excised from the highly anticipated midseason premiere.

If you’re one to follow the Arrowverse and tuned in for the recent midseason finales, then you’re well aware of how each of them left off on crazy cliffhangers that knocked us on our rears. Of course, Supergirl was the show that got the ball rolling, and it did so in brutal fashion.
Being the first series to come off the monumental crossover that was Crisis on Earth-x, it was important that the Maiden of Might had a strong showing – and that she did. Or at least, her TV show as an entity did, because Kara Zor-El herself was handed a beatdown like no other at the hands of Reign in a visceral battle that won’t be soon forgotten. And when you consider that Kara once bested her cousin, Superman, in a round of fisticuffs, that should give you an idea of just how formidable the Worldkiller truly is.

Though the summer hiatus felt like an eternity, we can now breathe easier with the fall season of DC TV being back in full swing. Not only that, but synopses for episodes set to air during week 5 have now surfaced online, including those for Supergirl and The Flash.
First, on Monday, November 6, corrupt businessman Morgan Edge will once again prove to be a thorn in the side of Supergirl and her cohorts. This time, he’s causing headaches for Lena Luthor by saying that she’s responsible of a string of lead poisonings in National City. If you’ll recall, her involvement in taking down the Daxamite invasion in last spring’s finale by building the lead bomb was crucial, but it sounds like he’ll sow enough doubt in Lena to make her second guess those valiant efforts.
In addition to seeing what else Adrian Pasdar can bring to the role of Edge,...

Despite having Superman Lives escape his grasp two decades ago, Kevin Smith has done well for himself in the time since. Not only has he gone on to write comic books highlighting the exploits of Daredevil, Green Arrow and Batman, but he also had the good fortune of directing two episodes of The Flash in recent years.
But after overseeing two pivotal installments featuring the Scarlet Speedster, Smith set his sights on National City. Not wasting any time, he handily helmed two episodes of Supergirl during its sophomore season. And although they didn’t lack the emotional resonance that was seen in his Flash offerings, they turned out to be visual effects spectacles, each being an achievement when it came to thrilling science fiction experiences on television.
Naturally, you’d think “the Fatman” would move on to Arrow since he’s already written for that character, albeit in another medium,...
