Having freaked out movie-goers with the shark thrillers 47 Meters Down and 47 Meters Down: Uncaged, as well as the survival thriller Fall (with a sequel now in the works), producers Mark Lane and James Harris of Tea Shop Productions are teaming up with Gavin Mehrtens and Ashley Holberry of Cowboy Cosmonaut for a new “nature run amok thriller”, a killer alligator movie called The Bayou!
Deadline reports that Megan Best (Seance) has signed on to star in the film, which will be directed by Matthew Ninaber (Death Valley). Production is expected to take place in the fourth quarter of this year.
Mehrtens has written the screenplay for The Bayou, working from a story by Holberry. That story crash-lands a group of friends in the water-logged, inhospitable Louisiana swamplands where they’re hunted by a fearsome, primordial apex predator. Best’s character leads the unfortunate survivors, out of their depth, who are...

I wasn’t sure what to expect going into Death Valley. On the one hand writer/director Matthew Ninaber also wrote and directed the underwhelming Transference and Extraction Day. On the other hand, he was the guy inside the suit of the titular creature in one of my favourite films of the year, Psycho Goreman. So he should know a thing or two about making a practical monster movie, right?
Death Valley opens, not in the California desert as you might expect, somewhere in Eastern Europe as an unknown man flees an underground research facility going into lockdown. This leaves Dr. Chloe (Kristen Kaster) trapped inside. She sends out a distress call and grabs a fire axe to deal with whatever it is that we hear in the darkness.

It’s not Alien, but Bravo squad’s tangle with a mucus-coated scarer will keep you from dozing off after the pub
Oscars are probably not on the cards, but this is a decently mounted creature feature by Canadian director Matthew Ninaber, which has enough mucus-coated hijinks to make it worth 90 post-pub minutes. A team of mercenaries are airlifted into the country of “Bosvania” to storm a bioresearch compound and rescue a scientist who appears to be the sole remaining staff member. Nice guy Beckett (Jeremy Ninaber) and trash-talking sniper Marshall (Ethan Mitchell) are on Bravo squad, tasked with shielding Alpha from a unit of local militia in the surrounding woods. But “shit” goes south, and the pair are forced to take refuge inside, where something has been painting the walls a nice shade of scarlet.

Death Valley: "Shudder, AMC Networks’ premium streaming service for horror, thriller and the supernatural, announced today that it will release the original film Death Valley in North America, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand on Thursday, December 9.
Written and directed by Matthew Ninaber (Psycho Goreman), who also appears as the frightening monster in the film, the adrenaline-fueled action horror stars his brother Jeremy Ninaber (Escape the Dark), Ethan Mitchell (Escape the Dark) and Kristen Kaster (If I should Die).

Take one extremely cool monster, add a dash of nostalgic humor and creepy fun, sprinkle it with some really fun characters, and mix well in a bucket of gore and practical effects, and you’ve got a recipe for a real horror treat! Which is exactly what PG: Psycho Goreman is—a treat. A treat, a joy, a pleasure, and many other positive adjectives. PG: Psycho Goreman is ridiculously charming and taps into everything that is fun about the horror genre.
Psycho Goreman is written and directed by Steven Kostanski and stars Nita-Josee Hanna, Owen Myre, Adam Brooks, Alexis Hancey, and Matthew Ninaber. In PG: Psycho Goreman, two siblings unwittingly resurrect an ancient alien overlord that has been entombed on Earth for millions of years. The pair nickname the evil force Psycho Goreman and use a magical amulet to control their newfound “friend” and force him to obey their every command—shenanigans ensue.

A cheeky 12-year-old develops extraordinary powers after taking control of a menacing extraterrestrial, in this engaging comedy-horror
Siblings Mimi, a ferocious force of nature, and her timid older brother Luke find a strange, glowing gem while messing around in the dirt. Turns out it summons a blue-hued, bad-tempered alien (actor Matthew Ninaber under a ton of makeup and prosthetics) from the planet Gygax; considered a “demon” by his enemies, he describes himself as “the archduke of nightmares”. However, once Mimi works out they can control him with the gem, she renames him Psycho Goreman, or PG for short.
Delighted with this new source of power, Mimi goes on to prove there is truly no force in the universe more capricious, cruel and catty than a 12-year-old who can have anything they want. Soon, she is forcing PG to turn her brother’s friend Alasdair (Scout Flint) into a squat monster...

Psycho Goreman is one of those movies that I was about 90% sure I was going to love even though all I knew about it was its title and a handful of images I had seen online. Thankfully, I wasn’t disappointed.
The story is as ridiculous as it should be for a film titled Psycho Goreman. We see siblings Mimi and Luke “unwittingly resurrect an ancient alien overlord who was entombed on Earth millions of years ago after a failed attempt to destroy the universe. They nickname the evil creature Psycho Goreman (or PG for short)and use the magical amulet they discovered to force him to obey their childish whims.” And if that doesn’t sell you on...

As a veteran in the world of special effects makeup, Steven Kostanski (who contributed to projects like It (2017), Crimson Peak, Pacific Rim, Resident Evil: Retribution, and more) knows exactly how important great effects are in the world of genre cinema. That much is evident from his previous directorial efforts like Manborg, Leprechaun Returns, and The Void. It’s also a huge component of his latest film project, PG: Psycho Goreman, which features a ruthless demonic overlord brought to life by actor Matthew Ninaber.
Daily Dead recently caught up with Kostanski, and he discussed the inspiration behind both the story and the character of Psycho Goreman, the design process of the film’s titular character, and more. One of the trends of our time is the way that extreme culture can wind up turning into kiddie culture. Head-banging metal that was once the down-and-dirty province of those in their teens and twenties had evolved, by the time of “School of Rock,” into a grade-school activity as wholesome as choir practice. “Psycho Goreman,” written and directed by Steven Kostanski, offers a variation on the same phenomenon. In spirit if not in fact, it’s a Troma film — in this case, a gonzo absurdist intergalactic sci-fi horror comedy that flaunts the gory ingenuity of its no-budget analog effects, along with a lot of so-broad-it’s-camp acting. “Psycho Goreman” wants to bring back those heady Troma fumes. But this one, quite knowingly, is like “The Toxic Avenger” remade by the Robert Rodriguez of “Spy Kids.”

It opens with a gladiator-level war of attrition between two middle school-aged siblings in their backyard. The game is called “crazy ball” and the loser gets buried alive. Mimi (Nita-Josee Hanna) and Luke (Owen Myre) pick-up their respective dodgeballs, throw them as far behind themselves as possible, and run after the other as fast as they can to try and take advantage of the five-point bonus “butt shot” rule. Writer/director Steven Kostanski shoots it like battle with blaring score, close-up scowls, and pools of mud leading towards the inevitable “switcheroo” that makes it so you can steal victory from the jaws of defeat with a punch to the gut. And through it all is the playful absurdity we can expect from a movie titled PG: Psycho Goreman.
The sequence’s best part, however, is an outlier lasting just a few seconds. Kostanski shifts the vantage point to what appears to be an upstairs window.

"The kind of genre cinema we dream of." Rlje Films has debuted a new official trailer for the upcoming VOD release of a wacky horror sci-fi comedy titled Psycho Goreman. We featured a teaser trailer earlier in the year before the film's originally planned premiere at SXSW (before the fest was cancelled). This is the latest film from Canadian filmmaker / SFX artist Steven Kostanski (who most recently made The Void) and it instead premiered at Monster Fest and the Sitges Film Festival this year. PG, or Psycho Goreman, is about two kids who, using a magical amulet, force the evil monster who showed up to obey their childish whims, and accidentally attract a rogues' gallery of intergalactic assassins to small-town suburbia. Starring Nita-Josée Hanna, Owen Myre, Adam Brooks, Alexis Hancey, and Matthew Ninaber as PG. This looks ridiculously awesome and totally kooky and I am so looking forward to it.

The enormous rise of superhero movies has meant that even filmmakers with small budget are trying to create something within the genre. Some have worked, some have not but with the restriction of the budget, writers have had to come up with clever ideas.
At first Transference: Dark Mutants has that definite feel of a sci-fi that is leaning towards horror but it slowly evolves into a more X-Men-influenced sci-fi movie. Lead character Emma possesses supernatural abilities and is almost being kept prisoner by her twin brother Joshua. He believes he is keeping her safe from the outside world, the people that will do horrible things to her if they discover what she can do.

At first Transference has that definite feel of a sci-fi that is leaning towards horror but it slowly evolves into a more X-Men-influenced sci-fi movie. Lead character Emma possesses supernatural abilities and is almost being kept prisoner by her twin brother Joshua. He believes he is keeping her safe from the outside world, the people that will do horrible things to her if they discover what she can do.

Deadline reported earlier this afternoon that Rlje Films and Shudder, both companies under the AMC Network umbrella, have acquired at least the North American rights for Steve Kostanski's PG: Psycho Goreman. The film was set to have its world premiere at SXSW earlier this year. We're saying North American because Rlje Films works primarily in America while Shudder has territories in America and Canada. Written and directed by The Void’s Steven Kostanski, the film revolves around siblings Mimi (Nita-Josee Hanna) and Luke (Owen Myre), who unwittingly resurrect an ancient alien overlord (Matthew Ninaber). Using a magical amulet, they force the monster to obey their childish whims, and accidentally attract a rogues’ gallery of intergalactic assassins to small-town suburbia. Adam Brooks also stars. ...

Indie cinema is a natural place for simple science fiction, leaving creatives to reach past the frame to create stories that reach through reality. Done well, creators can use simple shots to create worlds like in Coherence, but not every attempt is a titan.
Transference reaches beyond the natural, but doesn’t come back with a collected enough train of thought to deliver a riveting tale. After the loss of their father, Joshua (Jeremy Ninaber) is taxed with caring for his unstable twin sister, Emma (Melissa Joy Boerger). She is powered, and he must protect her from herself, others from her, and her from prying wrongdoers wishing to exploit her. To do so, the now adult Joshua leaves his sister locked up while he fights in an underground league to save the money to care for her. When the man guarding Emma pulls out of the arrangement and Joshua begins...

"He's gunna kill everybody if we take him anywhere!" "Not unless I tell him to." What happens when you accidentally summon an ancient alien overlord? You trick it into doing your bidding, of course! There's a teaser trailer for a wacky new film titled Psycho Goreman that we have to share with everyone. This is the latest film from Canadian filmmaker / SFX artist Steven Kostanski (who most recently made The Void) and it was originally set to premiere at the SXSW Film Festival this month (which is no longer happening). PG, or Psycho Goreman, is about two kids who, using a magical amulet, force the monster to obey their childish whims, and accidentally attract a rogues' gallery of intergalactic assassins to small-town suburbia. Starring Nita-Josée Hanna, Owen Myre, Adam Brooks, Alexis Hancey, and Matthew Ninaber as PG. This looks hilarious! Like something you'd find in the back of a little...

"We all have our differences, but some of us, they can do things that aren't naturally possible..." Epic Pics has unveiled an official trailer for an indie horror thriller titled Transference: Escape the Dark, or just Transference for short. Hunted by an unstoppable secret agent, a brother must hide his twin sister and her supernatural abilities in a mental institution so that she does not fall prey to becoming an experiment in a classified government program. This genre mashup seems to be leaning more towards The New Mutants, in terms of superpower horror, than Brightburn. Though it just seems like an odd mix of ideas and cliches, not all of them meshing together that well. Transference stars Jeremy Ninaber, Melissa Joy Boerger, Tony Nash, and Jehan Hashim. This looks instantly forgettable, but it still might intrigue a few viewers. Here's the full trailer (+ poster) for Matthew Ninaber's Transference: Escape the Dark,...

In the mood for a low-fi X-Men riff that mixes superpowers with Bloodsport aesthetics and some Morgan vibes for good measure? Matthew Ninaber’s Transference looks to be all that on a budget, as comic book influences tease a darker story of discovering powers within. Actually, “comic book influences” is even a stretch as Ninaber isn’t […]

“Programming the Midnighters section this year felt especially invigorating,” Jarod Neece, SXSW Senior Film Programmer, said. “The filmmaking teams, while particularly diverse, all seem to be using their films as a cathartic lens to view the modern-day world. One trend we noticed was the presence of a strong female protagonist fighting off everything from hordes of zombies, bad dates, creepy rideshare drivers and supernatural forces.
