Updated With Full List Of Scripts, Writers, And Reps: Catherine The Great, about the rise and life of the famous (sometimes notorious) 18th-Century Russian monarch, was the top vote-getter among 70 scripts chosen for the 2014 Black List of the year’s best un-produced scripts. The Machinist helmer Brad Anderson has signed on to direct Shadow Run, a mysterious actioner that is being broadly described as “Safe House on a plane.”
The project emerged first as a spec script by Joe Gazzam, which became the object of a financial tug of war between studios last February. Michael De Luca and Andrea Giannetti have been tasked with handling the film for Sony, and they’ll work alongside producers Neal H. Moritz and Hernany Perla.
Plot details are scarce at the moment, but Anderson’s involvement indicates that the script impressed the well-respected director. His past projects include Halle Berry thriller The Call, star-studded period mystery-thriller Stonehearst Asylum and episodes of acclaimed series like The Killing, Boardwalk Empire, Fringe, The Wire and Treme.
No casting has yet been announced, though Sony will likely be searching for a bankable, already established action star who can carry the pic.

As their press release reminds, 3 out of 5 of the most recent Best Picture winners and 7 out of 12 of the most recent Best Screenplay winners were all feature on The Black List before being picked up for production. When it comes to prestige titles, the annual survey of the best liked, unproduced scripts is peerless. Of course, their batting average comes naturally, considering that they’re asking hundreds of insiders for their favorite stuff. Some of those favorites are bound to get made and some are bound to be stellar. Which puts the view of Hollywood executives as idiots who can only churn out sequels, superheroes and reboots into question. Or, at the very least, it puts their balancing act of riding tentpoles in order to create an adult drama or two into stark relief. This year’s Black List is dominated by biographies, Hollywood stories (of course) and a giant shark that won’t work. The...

We didn’t know it when docu-helmer Errol Morris (The Thin Blue Line, The Unknown Known) signed up for it last July, but by the looks of several industry players, he might have landed on the best screenplay of the bunch.
The annual “The Black List” unveiled its “favorite unproduced screenplays” of the year, and ranking at the top with a slim margin of a lead was Andrew Sodroski’s Holland, Michigan – a project that should begin lensing in April of next year with Naomi Watts possibly toplining. The second place top vote-getter got a lot more than a set of steak knifes this year. The out-of-nowhere, complete obscurity to huge pay day Section 6 by first time scribe Aaron Berg garnered huge interest towards the end of the year and should be jettisoned into production by the Universal folks – look for big name talent to be attached sometime in...

With all the mindless sequels and reboots that Hollywood has churned out over the last few years, it’s always nice when something original and well-written can break through and get a studio release. Unfortunately, many quality scripts can spend years without ever reaching the right executive to give it the green light. In an effort to make the process a little bit better, former production executive Franklin Leonard started The Black List in 2004. Today, the site announced its ninth annual list of the best unproduced scripts.
To come up with the list, nominations are received from over 250 executives. If a film gets 6 nominations, it gets a spot on the list. The more executives that nominate it, the higher on the list it is. Production for last year’s top film, Draft Day, is underway with the theatrical release scheduled for April, so there’s a pretty good chance that...

Just in time for Halloween! Independent Lit manager, Hollywood Hustler, and all around nice gal Miss Kailey Alexis Marsh has just dropped the annual Blood List!
The Blood List is the top 13 most liked, unproduced dark genre screenplays of the year, released annually on Halloween. This is the 5th anniversary. Over 100 feature film executives vote on their top 3 favorite dark genre (horror, sci-fi, thriller) screenplays of the year. Seventy-seven of them earned votes, with screenplays requiring a minimum of four votes in order to make the final cut. I’m looking forward to reading some of these. Patrol and Family Vacation seem to be scripts that are in my wheelhouse. Coming in at number one is Ink and Bone, Zak Olkewicz’s horror spec script about a writer held hostage by his own creations that Dimension purchased earlier this year according to Deadline. Meet the 2013 class of The Blood List:...

Ghost Team One was released today to theaters, VOD, and digital outlets. We were recently given the opportunity to interview the movie’s co-directors, Scott Rutherford and Ben Peyser, who told us about how they got together, improv acting on set, and more:
How did you two get together to co-direct Ghost Team One?
Scott Rutherford: We met at UCLA film school. I have been writing on Workaholics and Ben had been running his own commercial production company. Because of my Workaholics experience, Hernany Perla, who was the producer, brought me on. This was going to be such a speedy process and I knew I’d need a Dp that would be the whole package. Ben became the greatest choice possible because he’s an incredibly talented Dp, but he’s also worked as a director and producer. He’s a really funny guy and we make each other laugh.

Ghost Team One will receive a limited theatrical, VOD, and digital release this Friday and we have three clips for you to watch.
“Produced by Hernany Perla Films in association with Flying Monkeys Entertainment and Foresight Entertainment, Ghost Team One has drawn early raves from critics who have called the film “hilariously offensive and ludicrously endearing” (Indiewire) and “pure comedy gold” (Film Threat). In addition, Mark L. Miller of Aint It Cool News proclaimed, “It’s a film that will definitely show up on my Best Horror Film of the Year list.”
Ghost Team One follows two friends who are both trying to impress a girl who believes the spirit of a vengeful madam is haunting their home. They set out to make a documentary about a murder that took place in their house decades ago and, much to their surprise, soon capture some terrifying—and uproarious—supernatural activity that...

Diego Boneta ("Rock of Ages"), Ethan Peck ("The Sorcerer's Apprentice"), Nate Parker ("The Great Debaters"), Eugene Simon ("Game of Thrones") and Sung Kang ("Fast Five") are set to star in Jaume Collet-Sera's survival thriller "Eden" at Ombra Films.
A fusion of "Alive" and "Lord of the Flies," the story begins when a soccer team's plane crash lands on a deserted Pacific island.
Team spirit evaporates as disagreements cause the group to separate into factions - a violent one lead by an unbalanced ruler (Peck), and a compassionate one led by a selfless player (Parker).
Boneta plays the wildcard, a cocky player who becomes an obsessive and sadistic barbarian. Mark Mavrothalasitis penned the script. Collet-Sera, Parker, Juan Sola and Hernany Perla will produce.
Shayam Madiraju makes his feature directing debut on the project which is aiming to begin shooting next month in Malaysia.
