The critics, so far, have a unanimous verdict: “The Last Days of American Crime,” Netflix’s new sci-fi/heist mashup that features scenes of police brutality and other gratuitous violence, is one of the worst films… ever.
The movie, released on Netflix June 5, has a 0% Tomatometer score on Rotten Tomatoes, which means none of the 26 critical reviews tabulated by the site were positive. Overall, the site assigned a 2.27 out of 10 rating for the film across reviewers.
“The Last Days of American Crime” joins only 42 other films (with at least 20 reviews) to receive the dubious distinction of getting a Tomatometer goose egg, including Netflix’s “The Ridiculous 6” from Adam Sandler, “Gotti” starring John Travolta, 1990’s “Problem Child,” “Staying Alive” (also starring Travolta) and “Police Academy 4: Citizens on Patrol.”
The consensus is that, with protests nationwide over the police killing of George Floyd, the timing of the movie’s release is a disaster.

Anna Brewster, Michael Pitt, and Sharlto Copley have rounded out the cast of the Netflix pic “The Last Days of American Crime” starring Edgar Ramirez.
“Taken 2” director Olivier Megaton is helming with Karl Gajdusek adapting the script.
Based on the Radical Publishing graphic novel “The Last Days of American Crime” by Rick Remender and Greg Tocchini, the story is set when, in a final response to fight terrorism and crime, the U.S. government plans to broadcast a signal making it impossible for anyone to knowingly commit unlawful acts. Graham Bricke (Ramirez), a career criminal who was never able to hit the big score, teams up with Kevin Cash (Pitt) and Shelby Dupree (Brewster) to commit the heist of the century and the last crime in American history before the signal goes off.
Jesse Berger at Radical Studios will produce along with Jason Michael Berman at Mandalay Pictures, as well as Barry Levine.

AMC Networks’ Shudder has acquired exclusive streaming rights to Mandy, the Nicolas Cage-starring horror thriller that bowed to big buzz this year at the Sundance Film Festival. Rlje Films acquired the Panos Cosmatos-directed pic after its Park City bow and gave it a limited theatrical release in September, where it has been building a cult fan base thanks to its wild plot — Cage plays a man whose peaceful woodland existence with his wife is shattered by a nightmarish hippie cult and their demon-biker henchmen, propelling him into a spiraling, surreal rampage of vengeance. Andrea Riseborough and Linus Roache co-star in the pic produced by SpectreVision, Xyz Films and Umedia. The deal, which will target Shudder’s core genre aficionado subscriber base, also includes Canadian rights from Elevation Pictures. No premiere date on the streaming service has been set yet.

That was based on the Radical Publishing comic book series Hercules: The Thracian Wars. Radical recently set a multimillion-dollar China-based joint venture with Le Vision Pictures which enables the company to access stories, talent and distribution through the partnership. Among their earliest releases was Hercules, boasting a Steranko cover, and it came with high production values and a bit of a buzz., The character returned for a second miniseries in and this interpretation captured Hollywood’s fancy. After years in development, production on the movie adaptation began today. Thew film enters a crowded summer 2014, especially for super-hero films, coming after Captain America: The Winter Solider and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and just before X-Men: Days of Future Past and Guardians of the Galaxy (raising the question whether or not four Marvel Universe films in five months will reach the saturation point).

The next time the Avengers assemble on the big screen, don’t be surprised if you see them touch down at some point in China. Given the rapid, almost Hulk-like growth of the film market in that country over the past few years, Avengers director Joss Whedon is half-expecting to get a call any day now asking whether he can set part of the superhero sequel in a Chinese locale. “I’m working on the script right now, and if someone came to me and said, ‘We’re looking into doing a chunk of this in China’—well, I’d have to think about it,...

Rufus Sewell is the latest to join Brett Ratner’s upcoming Hercules. The pic already stars Dwayne Johnson (in the title role) and Aksel Hennie. Sewell will play Autolycus.
The film will be based on Steve Moore’s graphic novel Hercules: The Thracian Wars, written by Steve Moore with art by Cris Bolsin.
In Ratner’s film, Hercules renounces his mythological origins, and lives in exile, fighting as a mercenary for hire alongside his loyal but weary comrades. Hercules and his crew will face their most challenging labor yet when one battle forces the man behind the myth to question everything he once believed,
The screenplay for the film version was written by Ryan Condol. MGM’s Roger Birnbaum, Gary Barber and Jonathan Glickman will produce with Peter Berg and his Film 44 partner Sarah Aubrey, as well as Barry Levine of Radical Pictures, whose Jesse Berger will executive produce.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Aksel Hennie will star in his first big studio movie alongside The Rock In Hercules, the MGM/Paramount co-produced, Bret Ratner directed adaptation of the graphic novel Hercules: The Thracian Wars. Apparently Hennie will play a character called Tydeus, "a warrior devoted to Hercules who wields twin axes and is such a madman that he needs to be chained up at night when he sleeps". This version of the tale will strip away all of the supernatural elements of the mythology and reimagine Hercules as a mortal warrior with a "fearsome reputation", who leads a group of mercenaries on a mission where all is not what it appears. How exciting! The movie will be produced by Beau Flynn, Barry Levine and Ratner, and executive produced by Peter Berg, Sarah Aubrey and Jesse Berger.

Radical Studios has raised $3 million in funding to invest into its digital strategy and licensing.
The comic book company, which develops properties for adaptation in other mediums, aims to ultimately generate $9.5m for expansion.
"Radical reserves a certain kind of digital publishing right that allows us to have a little more creativity in the user interface of the experience, without it being a game," Radical co-founder Jesse Berger told Variety.
"We're always on the hunt for new IP, and we're always looking to develop new IP with the top creators in the business, and at the same time, we have a tremendous catalogue."
Radical currently has two cinematic adaptations in development - Tom Cruise's Oblivion for release in April and the Dwayne Johnson-starring Hercules due next year.

Director Brett Ratner ("Tower Heist") will adapt Radical Publishing's "Hercules" comic book series "The Thracian Wars" and "The Knives Of Kush" (written by Steve Moore, illustrated by Cris Bolsin, Jim Steranko), into a live action MGM feature :
"...fourteen-hundred years ago, a tormented soul walked the Earth that was neither man nor god. 'Hercules', powerful son of the god king 'Zeus', received nothing but suffering his entire life. After twelve arduous labors and the loss of his family, this dark, world-weary soul turned his back on the gods, finding his only solace in battle.
"Over the years he warmed to the company of six similar souls. These men and woman never question where, why, or whom they go to fight; only how much they will be paid. Knowing this, the King of Thrace has hired these mercenaries to train his men to become the greatest army of all time.
