1954's "The Creature From The Black Lagoon" was the last gasp of Universal Pictures' black-and-white horror heyday. Pivoting away from literary adaptations towards something more resembling contemporary man-in-suit monster movies, "Black Lagoon" introduced one last staple of the Universal Monster line-up: The Gill-man. A missing link in the evolutionary chain, the amphibian man has the same mix of terror and lovelorn pathos as his monstrous brethren.
It's not quite the pop-culture staple that "Dracula" and "Frankenstein" are, but "The Creature From The Black Lagoon" has been reimagined many times (most famously in 2017 with Guillermo del Toro's Best Picture-winning oddball romance "The Shape of Water" — it was almost black-and-white like "Black Lagoon" too). Now a new comic book starring the Gill-Man comes forth from Skybound Entertainment, boasting a title that belongs to a forgotten Universal Horror picture: "The Creature From The Black Lagoon Lives!"
Skybound isn't just revitalizing "The Transformers" and "G.I. Joe.

Last year, Skybound Entertainment, the company founded by David Alpert and The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman, teamed up with Universal Pictures not only to bring us the Dracula comedy Renfield, but also the four-issue comic book limited series Universal Monsters: Dracula. Now The Hollywood Reporter has broken the news that there’s another Universal Monsters comic book series coming out of this Skybound and Universal partnership: Universal Monsters: Creature from the Black Lagoon Lives! Like the Dracula series, the Creature from the Black Lagoon series will consist of four issues, but while the Dracula comic was an adaptation of the classic Universal film, this Creature from the Black Lagoon series tells “a brand-new story featuring beloved Gill-Man.”

A new batch of images from Josh Trank’s superheroes-gone-bad movie “Chronicle”. I guess when you think about it, calling the lads of “Chronicle” superheroes is a bit of a mistake, since as far as I can tell, they never actually do anything overly superheroic, unless you consider screwing around with people in stores “superheroic”. Which, in case you’re wondering, I don’t. Anyhoo. New images from the film, due out next month on February 3, 2012. If all goes well, I see a very, very bright future for Mr. Trank. I mean, come on, with a name like that, wouldn’t you like to see the kid succeed? Starring Michael B. Jordan, Dane DeHaan, Alex Russell, Ashley Hinshaw, Michael Kelly, Anna Wood, Joe Vaz, Matthew Dylan Roberts, and Luke Tyler. Get more images and videos in our “Chronicle” preview page...

The boys of Josh Trank’s “Chronicle” are up to more no-good mischief in yet another clip. Hey, if I developed the power to levitate things with my mind, I’d be using it to expose girls panties, too. That’s just how I roll. (Then probably rob a bank or two. Or a dozen. But don’t tell anyone I said that.) Three high school students make an incredible discovery, leading to their developing uncanny powers beyond their understanding. As they learn to control their abilities and use them to their advantage, their lives start to spin out of control, and their darker sides begin to take over. Starring Michael B. Jordan, Dane DeHaan, Alex Russell, Ashley Hinshaw, Michael Kelly, Anna Wood, Joe Vaz, Matthew Dylan Roberts, and Luke Tyler. Poster 5 for Josh Trank's sci-fi thriller Chronicle, starring Michael B. Jordan, Michael Kelly and Alex Russell. Chronicle follows three high school friends who gain superpowers after an incredible discovery and end up turning against one another after personal problems. Raging hormes and superpowers do not mix well. This comes after we added the fourth poster and an entertaining clip involving a baseball. Josh Trank helms as well as writing the script alongside Max Landis. This one looks set for indie sci-fi cult status. Also in the cast are Anna Wood, Ashley Hinshaw, Dane DeHaan, Joe Vaz, Luke Tyler and Matthew Dylan Roberts. The 20th Century Fox release produced by John David and Adam Schroeder debuts on February 3rd.

Check out a new clip from Josh Trank’s “Chronicle”, which reveals just what exactly gives the boys their powers. Okay, you don’t actually see “the thing”, but you do hear it. And it’s underground. In a hole underground. I’m guessing it’s not mole people. Or crab people. Possibly alien? Judge for yourself. (Still think the whole found footage gimmick is annoying as hell, and the acting looks incredibly spotty, but eh, maybe it’ll be able to rise above those things.) Here’s a new poster for Max Landis and Josh Trank’s “Chronicle”, their “teenage kids get superpowers and shit goes really, really wrong” movie. The only objection I have with the film is shooting it in that getting-so-old-i’m-starting-to-hate-Oren-Peli-with-a-passion Found Footage gimmick. I honestly don’t know how they’re going to keep it going with that when the teenagers start flying around the sky beating the crap out of each other. It just seems so limiting in terms of storytelling, and when they start trying to get around it, it’s going to scream “contrive”. Here’s the trailer for “Chronicle” in case you missed it, and poster below. Starring Michael B.
