Lucasfilm released a new trailer for The Acolyte yesterday (see below) to mark this year's Star Wars Day celebrations, and a new poster for the next live-action Disney+ Star Wars series has now been unveiled at Ccxp Mexico.
Some fans on social media initially attempted to pass this off as our first look at Darth Plagueis, but a closer look (see the knives?) reveals that it's actually Amandla Stenberg's character, Mae.
Possible spoilers ahead.
Speaking of Master Sol's former apprentice, a rumor relating to this enigmatic Force-wielder has re-emerged with some additional details. According to Daniel Richtman, both Stenberg and Manny Jacinto will actually play dual roles as two pairs of twins - one good, one evil.

To mark this year's Star Wars Day celebrations, Lucasfilm has released a brand-new trailer and poster for its next live-action Disney+ Star Wars series, The Acolyte.
In addition to some exciting lightsaber action, the teaser reveals more story details, as Jedi Master Sol (Lee Jung-jae) vows to bring his wayward former apprentice Mae (Amandla Stenberg) to justice.
Mae doesn't appear to be the only one taking down Jedi, however, as we also get a first proper look at the mysterious Sith villain who is behind the murders. His (her?) face is obscured (with a mask not too dissimilar to the ones Kylo Ren and his Knights wore in the sequel trilogy), which may indicate that this formidable warrior will ultimately be unveiled as an already established character.

After several "Star Wars" Disney+ shows set between the beginning of the prequel trilogy and the end of the sequel trilogy, the franchise is taking a bold step back in time with "The Acolyte." Set in the later years of the High Republic, around 100 years before the events of "Star Wars: The Phantom Menace," this story finds the Jedi at the height of their power and the dark side of the Force seemingly banished to the deepest shadows.
A new trailer for "Star Wars: The Acolyte" has been released in celebration of May the 4th, a.k.a. Star Wars Day. The series was created by Leslye Headland, who previously worked on the mystery series "Russian Doll" and "Poker Face." In a recent interview with Total Film, Headland said that "The Acolyte" is another mystery show -- and one of the mysteries is," How do the villains come to think that they're right?...

With now just one month to go until Star Wars: The Acolyte premieres on Disney+, a new banner has surfaced (via SFFGazette.com) highlighting the show's leads...and potentially its mysterious villain!
Mae, Sol, Venestra, Jecki, Indara, Yord, Kelnacca and Mother Aniseya are among those featured, but to the right of Sol is a mysterious figure clad in all black and wielding the red lightsaber we're betting is the same one featured in the trailers. Could this be our first look at The Acolyte's Sith baddie?
It seems likely, particularly with a helmet that instantly brings up memories of Darth Vader and the Sith Inquisitors. In fact, on closer inspection, it almost seems to boast a toothy grin, a sign perhaps that whoever is beneath the mask has a monstrous side.

Star Wars: The Acolyte Leaked Footage Features An Intense Force Battle And A Badass Carrie-Anne Moss
Star Wars: The Phantom Menace returns to theaters this weekend to celebrate its 25th anniversary. With a month or so before The Acolyte premieres on Disney+, Lucasfilm is looking to build hype for that by attaching an extended preview to the 1999 movie.
Now, that sneak peek has leaked online (via SFFGazette.com) and it features an edge-of-your-seat clash.
The clip kicks off with Amandala Stenberg's Mae entering a cantina and approaching a hooded figure who we soon learn is Carrie-Anne Moss's Jedi Master Indara.
A fight ensues which highlights martial arts and the Force, with Indara eventually wielding her green lightsaber as the footage comes to an end (it's then followed by a previously released trailer). The action here is top-notch and may sway those who have written The Acolyte off before it's even begun.

“Obi-Wan. Now, that’s a name I haven’t heard in a long time… A long time.” Every Star Wars fan recognizes that line as one of the first things that the great Sir Alec Guinness says as Obi-Wan Kenobi at the start of A New Hope. For years, these fans have wondered what could have happened to poor Ben to wipe his much cooler name from memory.
While the Disney+ series Obi-Wan Kenobi gave fans an answer, it could have been so much worse. Early planning for the follow-up to Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith involved a much darker intro scene for Ewan McGregor‘s fallen Jedi Master, much worse than working on an assembly line cutting up a “sand whale” or living in a cave on Tatooine.

Who says rules are always meant to be followed? As any die-hard Star Wars fan knows, George Lucas had strict guidelines for the colors of lightsabers in the iconic sci-fi franchise. Jedi was typically assigned blue or green lightsabers, while Sith was given red lightsabers.
However, Samuel L. Jackson, 75, who took on the role of Mace Windu in the prequel trilogy, chose to throw those rules out the window. For the unversed, Mace Windu is portrayed as a Jedi Master who serves on the High Council in the last years of the Galactic Republic in the Star Wars universe.
Samuel L. Jackson as Mace Windu in Star Wars
In a bold decision that enraptured fans and impressed Jackson himself, the actor requested a purple lightsaber for his character. This move not only broke Lucas’ long-standing rule but also introduced a new and aesthetically striking dimension to the Star Wars universe.

The series which is part of George Lucas’ cult Star Wars franchise, is set years after the events in Revenge of the Sith, and brings the titular Jedi Master face to face with his arch nemesis Darth Vader.

One of the best and most devastating moments in "Star Wars" is Order 66 in "Revenge of the Sith." To close out the Clone Wars, the clone troopers that have fought beside the Jedi turn and shoot their commanders in the back, on orders from Chancellor Palpatine/Darth Sidious.
The most memorable death is Jedi Aayla Secura on the jungle planet Felucia, shot in the back by Clone Commander Bly and his brothers-in-arms. In one draft of the script (but not the finished film), Aayla is scouting for enemy droids and asking Bly for his input before he shoots, emphasizing her being taken by surprise. The Felucia scene would also feature Bly and the clones fragging Jedi Barriss Offee, but this was deleted, so the "Clone Wars" and "Tales of the Jedi" cartoons took that character in another direction.

Carrie-Anne Moss will make the leap from The Matrix to Star Wars with The Acolyte, the upcoming live-action series set to be released on Disney+ this summer. The actress plays Jedi Master Indara, and as we’ve seen in the trailer, she’s adept at wielding a lightsaber as well as using “Force-fu,” which naturally makes one think of Trinity.
According to The Acolyte creator Leslye Headland, that connection with Trinity is very much intentional as she told Empire that Master Indara was “very much inspired” by Carrie-Anne Moss’ iconic Matrix character. “I personally wanted to see someone who had the highest status you could imagine in a Force-fu fight – somebody that would come in and you immediately would be like, ‘Oh, that’s the most powerful Jedi in the room.’ And that’s Trinity,” Headland explained.

The Star Wars universe is one of the largest fictional universes in existence. George Lucas’ original movie idea has since expanded and become a vast universe with thousands, if not millions, of stories. Jon Favreau’s The Mandalorian became a major addition to the lore which expanded the cinematic universe and the story of Star Wars. It became a major hit and – undoubtedly – the most acclaimed Star Wars work in the Disney era. After three seasons and several crossovers, it was officially confirmed that the series would be continued in the form of a movie, The Mandalorian & Grogu, which now has an official release date – May 22, 2026.

There will be minor spoilers for "Star Wars: The Living Force" by John Jackson Miller.
"Star Wars: The Living Force" is the latest novel released by Del Rey Worlds and Lucasfilm, carrying forward the legacy of the "Star Wars" universe. Set before the events of "Star Wars: The Phantom Menace," this novel sees Qui-Gon Jinn taking the council to task for the disarray in the universe. The Jedi are paying too much attention to the bigger picture of the Cosmic Force and ignoring the individuals in the galaxy and the whims of the Living Force.
As the Jedi are closing temples on far-flung worlds because the galaxy has only grown larger and their resources haven't expanded, Qui-Gon discovers that closing temples increases crime and reduces the quality of life in the systems where it's happening. He's able to challenge the Jedi Council to go on a space road trip to...

A few weeks back, the trailer for ‘Star Wars: The Acolyte’ dropped, giving us a glimpse of the setting and characters. While the plot remains largely mysterious, fans are buzzing with excitement over its High Republic Era backdrop, a first for live-action. Apart from the setting, what really piques interest are the characters. Headland mentioned that while some are new creations, others like Vernerstra Rwoh are lifted right from the books.
In a recent interview with Empire, Leslye Headland, the creator of the show, talked about a thrilling character, Jedi Master Indara. Carrie Anne-Moss will bring Indara to life in the upcoming series. It’s worth noting that Anne-Moss is best known for her role as Trinity in ‘The Matrix’ franchise. Not surprisingly, Headland shared that this was the inspiration behind Indara in ‘Acolyte’ too.

Several weeks ago, the trailer for the highly-anticipated ‘Star Wars: The Acolyte’ was released and we’ve gotten a look at the setting and the characters. Little is known about the plot of the show, but most fans are excited by the fact that ‘The Acolyte’ will be taking place during the High Republic Era, something previously unseen in live action.
Second only to the setting, the most interesting thing about the show are certainly its characters, Headland herself admitted that some characters are original and some, like Vernerstra Rwoh were taken straight from the books.

The cast of the newest Star Wars live-action series, The Acolyte, has certainly turned heads. Set 100 years before the events of The Phantom Menace, at the end of the High Republic era, The Acolyte follows a group of Jedi played by a who’s who of notable stars, including Squid Game‘s Lee Jung-jae as Master Sol and Logan‘s Dafne Keen as his padawan Jecki Lon. Amandla Stenberg (Bodies Bodies Bodies) adds quite a bit of ferocity as a former padawan named Mae who’s gone rogue.
Add to that impressive list another Jedi Master who also happens to be a master of wire-fu in her spare time: it’s Carrie-Anne Moss as Master Indara. It’s a casting that makes so much sense, especially once you see Moss’ Jedi Master perform some “Force-fu” in a fight against Mae in the first trailer for the Disney+ series. Sans lightsaber,...

Disney really wants to make their latest ‘Star Wars’ Disney+ show ‘The Acolyte’ stick. They are so desperate to do it that they are reportedly making a ‘first look’ part of the special 25th Anniversary screenings of ‘Star Wars: The Phantom Menace.‘
If you want to see the 25th-anniversary screening of the film over Star Wars Day weekend, you will have to watch ‘The Acolyte’ first look as well.
Steeped in Controversy
‘The Acolyte’ has been controversial since it was first announced in Variety before Disney even confirmed that it was true. Some saw the “leak” as a way to push this show through by releasing the genie so it’s harder to put it back in the bottle.
Another big part of the controversy is the showrunner herself, Leslye Headland, who was a personal assistant to Harvey Weinstein at one point. However, she has not been accused of anything that we know of.

Star Wars: The Acolyte will take audiences back to the High Republic era of the franchise, a period in which the Jedi were at their height. Naturally, we will meet plenty of Jedi in the upcoming series, including Jecki Lon, a Padawan played by Logan star Dafne Keen.
Jecki Lon is the Padawan to Jedi Master Sol (Lee Jung-jae), and Dafne Keen spoke with Entertainment Weekly about her character. “Well, I’m very excited that we know her name now, because it was secret for so long,” Keen said. “And I’m very happy that I get to say that she’s an alien and that she’s a Padawan and that she’s a Jedi. She’s a mixed species — part Theelin, part human. She’s very cool and I have some very cool fights I do with the lightsaber. I really love her. She’s a great character...

In a recent interview, the actor expressed his interest in portraying Obi-Wan after having a good experience filming Season 1 of the Disney+ series.
McGregor acknowledged that in the past, he had to lie about playing the role to surprise fans with the stand-alone series on his character, but this time, he assures that he has no clue if he will return in future installments.
“The truth is I’ve talked about having to cover for doing the Obi-Wan season for years, I had to lie about that, and I’m not lying about this now,” he told LADbible in a recent interview while promoting his most recent series A Gentleman in Moscow.

This Star Wars article contains spoilers.
The return of Asajj Ventress in Star Wars: The Bad Batch is an intriguing new mystery for fans, especially those who read of her death in the 2015 novel Dark Disciple by Christie Golden, which is set during the Clone Wars, right before the events of Revenge of the Sith. In that book, she sacrificed herself to save her lover, Jedi Master Quinlan Vos, from Count Dooku’s Force lightning, but just an in-universe year after her death, she’s somehow back and meeting up with Clone Force 99 on The Bad Batch.
So, what’s behind her resurrection? It’s a mystery with no answer from Star Wars. But plenty of theories…
How Is Asajj Ventress Back?
Unsurprisingly, the prevailing theory regarding her return from the grave goes back to a specific moment in Dark Disciple. In the book, she and Vos team up to try and kill Dooku.

The first trailer for Star Wars: The Acolyte dropped earlier this week, and according to Lucasfilm, it actually broke a major record, besting every trailer for The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, Andor, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Ahsoka, but unfortunately, it also racked up quite a few dislikes on YouTube.
“The trailer for The Acolyte garnered 51.3 million views in its first 24 hours,” reads the Lucasfilm announcement. “This is a new digital-only record for any Lucasfilm Disney+ series, surpassing every trailer for The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, Andor, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Ahsoka. We’re grateful for your support, and can’t wait for you to experience the series.“
As I write this, The Acolyte trailer has 166k likes on YouTube, but it also has over 365k dislikes. Yikes. A portion of these dislikes could be down to review bombing, but the trailer did receive a rather mixed response upon release.

‘Star Wars: The Acolyte’ has been in development for a considerable time, and this week marked a flurry of announcements, including the release of the show’s first trailer. While the plot remains largely under wraps, fans are eagerly anticipating the series for its setting in the High Republic Era, a period yet to be explored in live-action.
Despite this unique backdrop, ‘The Acolyte’ is actually the second show to be set during this era, following the recently concluded ‘Young Jedi Adventures.’ Leslye Headland, the show’s creator, has now provided details on where exactly it fits within the broader Star Wars timeline.
I was so interested in a storyline where the Jedi were at the height of their power — and I don’t mean The Phantom Menace, because at that point, there’s a Sith Lord in the Senate that they’re not picking up on.

We finally have our first look at The Acolyte, the new Star Wars series set to hit Disney+ this summer. Created by showrunner Leslye Headland (Russian Doll), the show is set before any of the Skywalker Saga movies and is a murder mystery, a first for this franchise. As you’ll see from the trailer and this breakdown, the series is a lot darker than any of the other shows that Disney has produced so far. On Tuesday, StarWars.com released the trailer for the upcoming Disney+ series “The Acolyte.” The mystery series looks to be something a little different for the “Star Wars” universe – a Jedi detective story set in a galaxy far, far away with some high-flying martial arts action.
“The Acolyte” follows respected a Jedi Master named Sol (Emmy Award-winning “Squid Game” star Lee Jung-jae) and Mae (“Bodies Bodies Bodies” star Amandla Stenberg), his former Padawan who’s grown up to become a dangerous, non-Jedi warrior, as they team up to investigate a crime spree. They uncover sinister secrets about how the world really works. “This isn’t about good or bad,” a character played by Jodie Turner-Smith warns. “This is about power, and who is allowed to use it.”

"This is about power... and who is allowed to use it." Disney has unveiled the first full trailer for their next Star Wars series titled The Acolyte, set for a streaming debut starting in June this summer. Launching initially with two episodes before new episodes every week. The Acolyte is spearheaded by Bachelorette and "Russian Doll" creator Leslye Headland – who is producing, directing, and showrunning this series. An investigation into a shocking crime spree pits a respected Jedi Master against a dangerous warrior from his past. The Acolyte is set at the end of the High Republic era in a world of "shadowy secrets and emerging dark side powers", approximately 100 years before Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace (1999). A former Padawan reunites with her Jedi Master to investigate a series of crimes, but the forces they confront are more sinister than they ever anticipated. Starring Amandla Stenberg as Mae,...

The first trailer for Star Wars: The Acolyte gives us plenty of lightsaber action and hints at a power struggle. Watch it here.
Since 2020, when the series was first announced, all we’ve really known about The Acolyte is the title. Russian Doll co-creator Leslye Headland’s Star Wars show has been a bit of an enigma, but the first trailer, released today, has given us a lot of food for thought.
Check out The Acolyte trailer below.
The trailer release comes hot on the heels of the first poster and release date announcement, which arrived yesterday. The poster depicts a lightsaber base and a trail of blood where the ignited blade should be.
Granted, we still don’t know much. The trailer is accompanied only by a brief tagline: “In an age of light, a darkness rises.”

‘Star Wars: The Acolyte’ Creator Leslye Headland Talks the Unique Perspective of Her Upcoming Series
Star Wars: The Acolyte creator Leslye Headland is currently putting the finishing touches on a four-year journey that started with Lucasfilm boss Kathleen Kennedy buying her overall series pitch in the room. At the time, her hook was “Frozen meets Kill Bill,” and now the first trailer provides a few more of the puzzle pieces. Set a century before Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, Amandla Stenberg’s mysterious character appears to be hunting Jedi during a time of peace near the end of the High Republic era.
The trailer kicks off with Lee Jung-jae’s Jedi Master urging a group of Padawans to not trust their own deceitful eyes, and perhaps the same can be said of the trailer and the series’ overall narrative. The show will be taking a page out of Rashomon’s playbook, exploring different perspectives on the same events.
