The NBC limited series The Thing About Pam, starring Renée Zellweger, concluded its run on Tuesday, April 13, but has clearly made its mark for the network as its top-rated new series of the 2021-2022 season.
The show centers on the 2011 murder of State Farm employee Betsy Faria, which resulted in her husband Russ’s conviction, although he insisted he didn’t kill her and was later exonerated. This brutal crime set off a chain of events that would expose a diabolical scheme deeply involving Pam Hupp (Zellweger).
The series premiered in March and its opening episode performed decently with a 0.4 rating in the 18-49 demo and 2.79 million viewers. Since then, the episode jumped up to a 4.24 in the demo and tallied 14 million viewers – a 5x audience increase – across live, delayed and digital viewing, according to the network. The company also said that the pilot marked NBC’s best digital launch ever.

A project five years in the making, “Ten Weeks,” a docu-series about recruits going through the U.S. Army basic training, is slated to premiere on the Roku Channel on Thursday, Nov. 11, in recognition of Veterans Day.
The 10-part Roku original “Ten Weeks” is produced by Jason Blum’s Blumhouse Television and We Are the Mighty. The series follows five young Americans through 10 weeks of basic training, showing their transformation from civilians into soldiers. The series marks the first time in more than two decades that the U.S. Army has allowed cameras to capture an unfiltered look at basic training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, according to producers.
“Ten Weeks” was originally greenlit by Quibi, the now-defunct mobile subscription streamer, whose content library was acquired by Roku in early 2021. (The show never aired on Quibi.) “Ten Weeks,” whose episodes run 8-10 minutes in length, will be available free to stream...

Blumhouse Television’s Mary Lisio is resigning her post.
Named executive vice president of alternative and non-scripted programming at Jason Blum’s division in 2018, Lisio is departing the company amicably to pursue other opportunities.
Her departure comes as a result of Blumhouse TV’s recent exclusive, multi-year unscripted overall deal with ITV America. An “American Horror Story” spinoff series is officially a go at FX.
Just over two weeks after creator Ryan Murphy announced the project, FX has given the greenlight to “American Horror Stories,” a weekly anthology series that will feature a different horror story each episode.

FX is continuing its push into the documentary business with the announcement of six new projects.
The cabler announced at the Television Critics Association summer press tour that they have ordered five new docuseries and one documentary feature. The move comes after FX launched the New York Times docuseries “The Weekly” back in June.
“FX has long sought to give artists a platform to showcase their individual, uncompromising vision and its new docuseries and features are an opportunity to extend that ambition in our collaboration with non-fiction talent,” said Nick Grad, co-president of original programming for FX Entertainment. “It’s been tremendously rewarding to partner with The New York Times and Hulu on ‘The Weekly,’ which has excelled creatively and is hitting series-high ratings. If you thought Robert Durst was scary, wait until you meet the townspeople of Skidmore, Missouri. “I was glad he was dead. Killing him was the only way it was gonna stop,” sounds a woman’s voice in the first trailer for “No One Saw a Thing,” a new documentary crime series heading to SundanceTV in August, produced by Blumhouse.
Per the official synopsis: “A new six-episode true crime documentary series from Blumhouse Television and Delirio Films, ‘No One Saw A Thing’ examines an unsolved murder in the American Heartland and the corrosive effects of vigilantism in small town America. The case garnered international attention in the early 1980s after a so-called ‘town bully’ was shot dead in front of almost 60 townspeople in tiny Skidmore, Missouri. These witnesses deny having seen anything, to this very day.”
“That was the one mistake that they made, was that they didn’t kill his wife.
