Fresh from a brief stay at a psych hospital, reporter Camille Preaker faces a troubling assignment: she must return to her tiny hometown to cover the murders of two preteen girls. For years, Camille has hardly spoken to her neurotic, hypochondriac mother or to the half-sister she barely knows: a beautiful 13 year old with an eerie grip on the town. Now, installed in her old bedroom in her family's Victorian mansion, Camille finds herself identifying with the young victms - a bit too strongly. Dogged by her own demons, she must unravel the psychological puzzle of her own past if she wants to get the story - and survive this homecoming.

SHARP OBJECTS filmed in many locations and Barnesville, Georgia was changed to look like the fictional Wind Gap, Missouri located in the "Missouri Bootheel" the southeastern-most part of the state, composed of the counties of Dunklin, New Madrid, and Pemiscot. Cast members do not pronounce certain words to exactly match what is actually spoken and is taught in schools in Missouri. The best example occurs in part eight (Milk) which has a nighttime dinner scene from 3 minutes, in which Camille Preaker (Amy Adams) and Henry Czerny (Alan Crellin) say the words St. Louis and Missouri, but incorrectly pronounced as Saint-Loo-is and Miss-oor-ee, instead of the correct Saint-loo-ee and Miss-oor-ra.
