Not many award shows can make a combination of mermen, Korean pop stars and "Chavril" work, but that's exactly what the 2013 Much Music Video Awards did Sunday night in front of a sectioned-off block in downtown Toronto.
Hundreds of fans gathered in front of the MuchMusic building to catch this year's performers and presenters hit the red carpet as well as take to the stage in a two-hour popularity contest celebrating a marriage of video and music.
South Korea's Psy made his debut as this year's co-host and kicked the show off with his renowned hit 'Gangnam Style'. The K-Pop sensation also took home an Mmva for "Viral Video of The Year" with the same song, only to outdo his iconic horse dance with his personal twist on Beyonce's 'Single Ladies'. Psy would then later close the show with his first live performance of 'Gentleman' in Canada, set...

It's been a while since we've seen Sum 41 frontman Deryck Whibley, and he's looking different these days.
The 33-year-old was spotted out with his girlfriend Ari Cooper at the Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers show at the Fonda Theater in Los Angeles on June 6, and we have to say we almost didn't recognize him.
The last time we heard from Whibley, who divorced Avril Lavigne in 2011, he had to pull out of the band's Canadian tour supporting the band Billy Talent, because the singer had re-injured his back. Whibley's back problems caused the group to pull out of their 2011 dates on Warped Tour and a British tour in early 2012 with doctors warning him at the time he "could be in a wheelchair."
Yes, getting older is no fun at all.

Hollerado's Menno Versteeg is safe after a fire yesterday destroyed his apartment in Toronto yesterday.
Holy fuck. @wordsofbirds and @annefrances apt. just burnt down. At least some witty Instagramers caught the action twitter.com/hollerado/stat…
— Hollerado (@hollerado) May 6, 2013
Shortly after that initial tweet the group added a bit more info.
“@gibbs79: @hollerado @wordsofbirds @annefrances Holy crap. Is everyone ok?” Place is trashed. We are all fine. And that's all that matters
— Hollerado (@hollerado) May 6, 2013
An incredibly strange coincidence happened yesterday afternoon while the band was going through old combat footage for use in a music video.
"It's funny we're working on a new music video right now (for 'So It Goes') and it's a song about my grandfather during World War Two in Holland and we're going to Holland in like a week to shoot it," Versteeg told Huffington Post standing outside the remains of his and his wife's apartment Tuesday afternoon.

According to Tom Cochrane, life is a highway we need to ride all night long.
But when you throw a pile of Canadian musicians in a sweaty arena dressing room with a bunch of former NHL players and Canadian National Women's Team members apparently life is a big ol' singalong as well.
CBC Music just published a video from this year's Juno Cup where musicians and pros sang Cochrane's "Life Is A Highway" together and it's a mighty fun time.
The rockers and jocks were together for the Juno Cup, an annual charity hockey game held during the week of the Juno Awards. This year it was held at Mosaic Place in Moose Jaw, Sk.
On the ice the likes of rapper Classified and Billy Talent's Jon Gallant took on bruising ex-pros like Troy Crowder, Stanley Cup winner Mark Napier and Canadian Nats Natalie Spooner and Bailey Bram. During the dressing room singalong,...

The 2013 Juno Awards are almost upon us and you've probably got questions. Like, who's performing? When do I set my PVR? Is Carly Rae Jepsen going to be there? (More than maybe.)
Don't worry, friend. We've got answers for you. Here's everything you need to know about the 42nd annual Juno Awards.
What time are the awards on?
The Junos will air on CTV on Sunday, April 21 at 8 p.m. Ct, after "The Amazing Race." Be sure to check local listings, particularly if you live on the coasts. Last year, a historic 6.5 million viewers tuned in to the awards on CTV.
Where are the Junos this year, anyway?
Regina, the city that rhymes with fun, as Mick Jagger famously noted. This is the first time Regina has hosted the Junos, though Saskatoon did back in 2007.
Who's hosting the show?

Just when it seems Sum 41 singer/guitarist Deryck Whibley's re-occurring back pain was fine it has acted up again and has now caused the group to pull out of their current Canadian tour supporting Billy Talent.
"Sorry to all you skumfuks that were planning on seeing us at these last few shows on the Dead Silence Tour with Billy Talent," the group wrote on its Facebook page last night. "Deryck re-injured his back and isn't able to perform. We want to thank Billy Talent for bringing us out with them. It's been a great ride!"
"Its unfortunate that sometimes great nights end with bad news," Sum 41 bassist Cone McCaslin said in a string of tweets. "Extremely bummed out we are unable to finish this cdn tour. My sincere apology to all our fans who were coming to see us. Wanna thank @billytalentband 4 having us on their tour.

If you ever needed evidence of the diversity in Canadian music – or the fact that the Junos can be a bit of an Oprah “You get a car! You get a car! You get a car!” love-in – you couldn't do better than the Juno Fan Choice category, which bundles together Drake, Carly Rae Jepsen, Metric, Celine Dion, Justin Bieber, Leonard Cohen, Marianas Trench, Michael Buble, Nickelback and Hedley.
But let’s be less cynical and instead appreciate an award show that dares break down to a metaphorical cage match between Leonard Cohen and Rush against Carly Rae and Bieber.
That said, both legendary oldsters got shut out of the album of the year prize, despite Cohen's number one debut for "Old Ideas." Instead, the Junos' top category comes off more like six degrees of "Call Me Maybe" with hat tips for Carly Rae Jepsen's "Kiss," her hit song's co-songwriter Josh Ramsay's emo-rock outfit,...

Billy Talent have been forced to cancel eight dates on their European tour after the death in the band's inner circle.
"I have 3 things tattooed on my forearm. Friends, Family and Music," singer Ben Kowalewicz wrote on the band's site. "They are the 3 most important things to us. We have lost someone who was very close to us and it's been the most surreal week we've ever experienced. We are not the type of band that cancels shows and never have been in our 20 years together but we feel under the circumstances, that we have to pull out of the remainder of this tour.
"It's a very hard thing to do for us as we don't like to ever let our fans down but we honestly feel that right now we have to be with our friends and family to get through this. We will make it up to you all we promise.

Ever since breaking onto the music scene in 2003 with their self-titled “debut” album after a lesser known name change, alternative rockers Billy Talent have been surpassing expectations with every new release. Maturing with grace much like a fine wine, their fourth release Dead Silence is no different, being some of their most mesmerizing work yet.
Abandoning the Led Zeppelin album naming convention of just numbering each CD – i.e. Billy Talent, Billy Talent II, Billy Talent III – Dead Silence improves upon the trademark Billy Talent sound in every way possible.
As an album overall, the most prevalent reaction to hit me was “Dead Silence sounds exactly like every other Billy Talent CD,” which I’ve emphatically relished about every other album as well. Billy Talent has found a dynamic sound which is both technically envied and pleasingly unique, perfecting their method with an “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it” mentality.

Drake, Justin Bieber Overcome Technical Snafus, Win Big At MuchMusic
By Jayson Rodriguez
Drake performs at the 2010 MuchMusic Awards

Though technical difficulties delayed his start, they proved to be no match for Drake, as the Toronto lyricist powered through a raucous version of "Over" at the 2010 MuchMuch Awards in his hometown on Sunday night.
When Miley Cyrus introduced the hip-hop star alongside hockey player Jonathan Toews, she flubbed more than a few words and said there were problems with her cue card as she eventually tossed to Drake's performance. And then Drizzy himself experienced a few snags prior to beginning his set. Viewers at home saw the audience of teen girls screaming for a few awkward minutes as Drake stood on the stage in the middle of a closed-off street and waited for the problem to be fixed.
The show's staff appeared unprepared to handle the delay.

Miley Cyrus wasn't the only one drawing screams from the crowd gathering at the MuchMusic World Headquarters on Sunday night, June 20. Also rocking the stage at the 21st Annual MuchMusic Video Awards with their hit singles were "Hot N Cold" singer Katy Perry and "American Idol" alum Adam Lambert.
Katy, who earlier hit the red carpet in a skin-baring bright blue Ashish dress, took the stage in another body-hugging outfit and delivered her latest single "California Gurls". 28-year-old Adam, in the meantime, kept on his formal attire when singing to one of his hit singles off "For Your Entertainment" album, "Whataya Want From Me".
Aside from those two, other entertainers rocking the stage included pop sensation Justin Bieber and rising star Ke$ha. After making an appearance on stage when co-host Miley performed her "Party in the U.S.A" number, Justin entertained the audience with two of his songs.

Contrary to reports that Lil Wayne's next installment "Rebirth" will be Weezy's first rock album, fellow rapper Birdman, who is also Weezy's mentor, says otherwise. "It's not a rock record," Birdman tells Vibe Magazine.
"That's what I think people are getting misunderstood," Birdman furthermore says. "When you speaking about a rock record, you think he's got a guitar and everything, but it's not that. It's going to be some of those types of beats, but it's just great music. I don't think no artist can do what he about to get done. My son is a rock star."
"He can rap, he can sing, he's just an artist," he continues. "I don't think no one will ever be greater [than Wayne] because I don't think no one puts in the time or the quality. If someone do come along, can you imagine what he'll have to do? He got to put out on thousand mixtapes,...
