With 36 productions eligible for this year’s Tony Awards, there were plenty of names missing when nominations were announced by Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Renée Elise Goldsberry on Tuesday morning. Among the most surprising 2024 Tony nominations snubs was “Patriots.” Peter Morgan‘s history play about Russia earned three Olivier Award nominations last year, including Best New Play, Actor (Tom Hollander) and Featured Actor (Will Keen). In New York, it only scored one for Michael Stuhlbarg, who took over the role played by Hollander in the UK; Keen, who reprises his role as Vladimir Putin, did not score a nomination in a category stuffed with “Stereophonic” performers.
The revival of “The Who’s Tommy” also significantly underperformed. Gold Derby users predicted it would land three nominations for Best Musical Revival, Best Actor for Ali Louis Bourzgui and Best Choreographer for Lorin Latarro, but it only earned one bid in the top revival category.

"The Other Black Girl," Hulu's new series based on the best-selling novel by Zakiya Dalila Harris, is an important addition to the streamer's arsenal as a show that centers on the hostile environments that Black women can face in the workplace. It's a near-universal experience for many Black women and is finally being represented on screen.
But when the show takes a turn and reveals the main villain to be another Black woman perpetuating violence against her own community, the show falls short, creating a world where Black women are pitted against each other. As a Black woman who has often been the "only" in workplace settings, the experiences that Nella (played by Sinclair Daniel) goes through at Wagner Publishing resonated. But, unlike Nella, I always had Black colleagues to lift me up, not keep me down.
I have always found that the Black women I worked with had my back.

Zakiya Dalila Harris rarely saw another natural-haired Black woman in the office. But one time it did. She was an assistant editor at Knopf Doubleday, a publishing group within Penguin Random House, and a woman stepped into the bathroom. Instead of a serendipitous smile, though, Harris received the cold shoulder from her colleague.
“I definitely thought we’d have some kind of, ‘Hey,’ the nod, and that didn’t happen,” Harris recalls. “I ended up going back to my desk and started writing this book.”

Based on the suspenseful novel by Zakiya Dalila Harris, Hulu and Onyx Collective’s “The Other Black Girl” tackles the issue of systemic racism in the workplace through a thrilling lens. Produced by Rashida Jones, the show follows Nella Rogers (Sinclair Daniel) as she battles microaggressions and the isolation of being the only Black girl at Wagner Books. That is until the publishing house hires Hazel May McCall (Ashleigh Murray). At first, Nella is overjoyed, but she starts to realize that though they share skin color and culture, the two girls could not be more different.
Author Harris executive produced the show, written by Gus Hickey and Jordan Reddout. Some special guest stars appear here and there throughout the sinister series. Read on to learn who plays whom in Hulu’s “The Other Black Girl”:

Can one small thing address systemic racism in the workplace? Probably not, but The Other Black Girl presents a unique idea woven into a tale of anxiety and dread. Adapted from a book of the same title that was released as recently as 2021, The Other Black Girl sets out to be a workplace thriller that follows a young black woman in the publishing industry. In reality, it plays out more like a satire than a thriller, and the nail-biting stuff is far more limited in comparison to the relentless workplace humor. I found the first half of the show especially captivating. The pacing is great, and there’s an element of mystery, but at the same time, there’s also a lot of fun stuff, like getting to know our main character, Nella, who is quite delightful.

Every minority in the good old U.S. of A has heard or internalized that damaging myth: There can only be one. One model minority, one diverse member of the team (or cast) — and in Hulu’s “The Other Black Girl,” one editorial star at Wagner Books, as long as she falls in line. The 10-episode thriller (available all at once) is a faithful and gripping adaptation that will leave viewers exhilarated, entertained, and wanting more — especially from star Sinclair Daniel.
Based on the New York Times bestseller by Zakiya Dalila Harris, “The Other Black Girl” centers on Nella (Daniel), a rising editorial assistant whose world gets rocked in good and bad ways (and some in between) with the arrival of — you guessed it — a second Black girl in her workplace. “The Other Black Girl” is a rarity for Black women in scripted television. The latest series from Onyx Collective to premiere on Hulu, this psychological thriller and satire tinged with horror offers a rare and provocative look into the challenges facing Black women within the larger white society, while also exploring their internal tensions through a mainstream premise.
Adapted from the 2021 book of the same name from Zakiya Dalila Harris, the show centers two Black women working in book publishing, widely acknowledged as one of the least diverse industries in the country. Nella Rogers (Sinclair Daniel) is a promising young employee at Wagner Books, with eyes on becoming an impactful editor like her idol Kendra Rae Phillips, the publisher’s first and only Black editor to date, did back in the early 1980s. Across much of corporate America, it’s taken almost for granted that things have been “getting better” for racial minorities: that there are more Black voices in positions of influence than there ever have been; that diversity and inclusivity are more prized than ever; that every generation of trailblazers and role models begets the next; that no matter how unjust things remain, they’re still better than they were three or four decades ago. And sure, some of it might even be true.
But there’s a special frustration to being told all this when you can see with your own eyes that it isn’t always the way things are, to being instructed to just wait your turn, to gritting your teeth in the meantime. Hulu’s The Other Black Girl, set largely in the lily-white territory of book publishing, taps into that tension with every genre in its...

Literary legend Toni Morrison once called racism a distraction. “It keeps you from doing your work,” she said during a 1975 speech. “It keeps you explaining, over and over again, your reason for being.” Black people must contend with everything from blatant acts of racist terrorism to small microaggressions that filter into our everyday lives. Instead of existing, you find yourself in a state of constant emotional regulation and survival, one that is exhaustingly unfair and unsustainable. For people of color and Black folks navigating predominantly white spaces, this constant state of code-switching and performance can quickly become horrific and soul-sucking.

"I told you that company was a hell hole!" Hulu has unveiled an official trailer for a new thriller series titled The Other Black Girl, based on the bestselling book of the same name. The Other Black Girl is poised to be one of the most talked-about shows of the year.
Hulu dropped the official trailer for its adaptation of Zakiya Dalila Harris' best-selling novel on Wednesday, and it's as unsettling as expected.
"Nella, an editorial assistant, is tired of being the only Black girl at her company, so she's excited when Hazel is hired," the logline reads.
"But as Hazel's star begins to rise, Nella spirals out and discovers something sinister is going on at the company."
It's a compelling description, and the trailer nails what the above describes, so that's a good thing.
Sinclair Daniel, Ashleigh Murray, Brittany Adebumola, Hunter Parrish, Bellamy Young, Eric McCormack, and Garcelle Beauvais star.
The Other Black Girl is executive produced by Rashida Jones, Adam Fishbach, Zakiya Dalila Harris, Jordan Reddout, Gus Hickey, Tara Duncan, and Temple Hill's Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey.

Sinclair Daniel gets rightly paranoid about her workplace as she faces a series of sinister events in the debut trailer for Hulu’s psychological thriller The Other Black Girl, set for a streaming release on Sept. 13.
The original series, from Onyx Collective and based on Zakiya Dalila Harris’ 2021 best-selling novel, revolves around Nella Rogers (Daniel), an editorial assistant in a starkly white New York City publishing house who is tired of being manipulated and marginalized as the only Black girl at her company.
So she gets excited when Hazel-May McCall, played by Ashleigh Murray, is hired and sits in the office cubicle behind her own. But as Hazel becomes the office darling at Wagner Books, Nella spirals and discovers something sinister is going on as she is left in the dust.

Showtime has announced the release date of their upcoming limited series “Fellow Travelers,” starring Matt Bomer and Jonathan Bailey. The eight-episode drama will premiere on Oct. 27.
Created by Academy Award nominee Ron Nyswaner and based on Thomas Mallon’s novel of the same name, “Fellow Travelers” is both a romance and a political thriller, depicting the secret relationship between two men who meet in McCarthy-era Washington. Their romance begins at the same time that Joseph McCarthy and Roy Cohn declare war on “subversives and sexual deviants.” The show tracks the protagonists over four decades, through the Vietnam War protests, the drugs and disco of the 1970s, and the AIDS crisis of the 1980s.

There's nothing like a storm to raise the stakes and infuse an episode of television with some dramatic tension.
On 4400 Season 1 Episode 10, there were so many beautiful character scenes, as well as some mysteries finally uncovered -- not to mention Jharrel flashbacks!
It was one of the series' strongest outings so far and promises more excitement and drama to come.
Hard times have a way of lingering.
Andre Permalink: Hard times have a way of lingering. Added: January 25, 2022
Nearly all of the episode's scenes were two-handers, many of them unlikely pairings. This show does best when it focuses on the characters, how they deal with each other's humanity, and how they relate to one another. It was a testament to the talent of this relatively young and new-to-television cast.
For instance -- the bromance we didn't know we needed! Andre and Logan teamed up, blew up a door, and generally got along really well.

Hailing from Brooklyn, NY, Brittany Adebumola is a theatre major turned network star. She plays Shanice Murray on The CW's reboot of 4400, a new series about a group of missing people from across time who have mysteriously returned with unexplained powers.
We caught up with Brittany about Shanice's strengths, her romantic escapades, that shocking decision in 4400 Season 1 Episode 9, and what's next for her and her character.
TV Fanatic: How has the response been to the show on your end?
Brittany Adebumola: It seems like people really love it! The most surprising thing for me has been that people are not rooting for Shanice and Logan like I thought they would. A lot of people just do not like Logan.
After reading some of the tweets and whatnot, I can see where they're coming from. As an actor who's always trying to empathize with the characters, I see Shanice's side.

If you want those superpowers to show up, you've got to feel some feelings.
On 4400 Season 1 Episode 3, Ladonna puts herself out there with the hope of bettering their situation.
Despite the episode's title focusing on Ladonna, many characters had important moments, some of them genuinely moving.
It was funny how Ladonna spent that conversation with Millie and Hayden talking about how awesome their superpowers were, and then this was the episode she finally got her own!
Her ability has manifested several times -- if she wants something, all she has to do is say it, and it will appear. It works for her phone, jewelry, and fire.
The ramifications of this could be huge. Right now, it seems limited to smaller objects, but if she can create fire of all things, the returnees can definitely use this to their advantage.

In the original “The 4400,” characters who’d long been missing suddenly return from an unknown alternate dimension, all at once. As the title suggests, the group of returned individuals numbers some 4,400 strong. The franchise itself now does something similar: After leaving USA Network in 2007, the show returns, having shed an article in its title — it’s just “4400” now — and picked up a lightness of touch that feels breezy and fresh.
In its CW incarnation, “4400” promises drama without heaviness, and the pilot sets up various story points without feeling too portentous. One plotline concerns the government response, with a social worker (Joseph David-Jones) and corrections officer (Ireon Roach) working together in the midst of a government response we increasingly see as punitive. Elsewhere, Shanice (Brittany Adebumola), who was ripped away from her husband and daughter in the early 2000s, finds that they’ve moved on, and grown up,...

When executives at CBS Studios decided to dust off the not-too-distant IP of “The 4400,” a four-season drama about a group of people who were plucked from different places and time periods and returned at once, it was good news for Ariana Jackson.
Jackson wasn’t the first producer to tackle such a project — a previous attempt at a reboot was made in 2018 by Taylor Elmore and Craig Sweeny. But as a fan, she knew the intricacies of the original series, which premiered in 2004 on USA Network. Jackson teamed with Anna Fricke, who previously successfully rebooted “Walker, Texas Ranger,” to propel her version forward.
The CW ordered “4400” straight to series in February. It bows Oct. 25, with Sunil Nayar joining Jackson to serve as co-showrunner.
They key to cracking their version of the story, Jackson tells Variety, was not to worry about whether the original already tackled a particular piece of story.

When 4400 missing persons suddenly reappear with no explanation, extraterrestrials become the prime suspect for what’s behind it all in TVLine’s exclusive trailer for The CW’s reboot of the former USA Network series.
It’s a natural theory, seeing as how one of the vanished is suddenly sucked out of her car by a strange force in 2005, while another resurfaces in 2021 with healing abilities. But even if aliens are responsible, the returnees have a more pressing problem: They’re being held as prisoners by the authorities.

Exclusive: Brittany Adebumola (Grand Army), Jaye Ladymore (The Chi) and Amarr Wooten (Colin in Black & White) are set as series regulars in 4400 (fka The 4400), the CW’s reimagining of the 2004 USA Network sci-fi drama series.
4400 hails from Riverdale co-executive producer Ariana Jackson and Anna Fricke, who successfully rebooted Walker, Texas Ranger for the CW.
In the new version, 4400 overlooked, undervalued, or otherwise marginalized people — two of them played by Joseph David-Jones and Khailah Johnson — who vanished without a trace over the last hundred years are all returned in an instant, having not aged a day and with no memory of what happened to them. As the government races to analyze the potential threat and contain the story, the 4400 themselves must grapple with the fact that they’ve been returned with a few…upgrades, and the increasing likelihood that they were all brought back now for a specific reason.
