I’ve got a trailer here for a fun looking new horror comedy called Zoo, which tells the story of a couple who are trying to save their marriage as a zombie apocalypse breaks out.
Here’s the synopsis:
Karen and John have lost the spark of married life the day they were notified that they were unable to conceive. Now they almost live like the walking dead, imprisoned by everyday life and on the verge of divorce. When the world is hit by a pandemic that really turns people into zombies, the couple have to lock themselves in their apartment, waiting for rescue. While the world outside is falling apart, they are forced to find their way back to each other and reclaim their lost love.
This actually looks like it could be an entertaining film worth checking out. I really like the concept and as you’ll see in the trailer,...

Marriage is hard. That's the basic underlying premise of Antonio Tublen's latest genre mashing feature film, Zoo. But is it helped or harmed by the outbreak of a zombie apocalypse? That's the question that drives us through. Tublen has been a favorite in these parts for years now, his work always embracing genre elements in intriguing ways while also finding means to flip things on their head. His ultra lo-fi sci-fi feature Lfo won him a lot of fans on the festival circuit and Zoo shares a lot of that film's 'enormous ideas in a tiny package' approach. And coming off a successful premiere in Sitges I would expect this one to be off to a lengthy festival run now as well. Karen and John...

"It's like we're the only two people left in the world." Ping Pong Film has released their first trailer for an indie horror comedy titled Zoo, the latest film from young Swedish filmmaker Antonio Tublen (aka Antonio Steve Tublén of Lfo previously). The film is about a married couple struggling with their relationship who end up stuck together in their apartment when a zombie apocalypse breaks out. They can't go anywhere else, so they must figure out how to deal with each other in order to survive. Until others show up. It's a good concept, but the execution is awful. Zoo stars Zoë Tapper and Ed Speleers, with a small cast including Jan Bijvoet and Antonia Campbell-Hughes. The film just premiered at the Sitges Film Festival, where I saw it and did not like it one bit. I really wanted it to be better, but unfortunately it's a disaster in every way.

It was back in 2013 that we last heard from director Antonio Tublen with his quirky scifi comic thriller Lfo. That film was a pretty remarkable accomplishment on a tiny budget, with Tublen proving that he had a very distinct voice and unique visual style. And he returns this year with dark Danish thriller Robin. A traumatized woman is found in a forest, she claims to have witnessed a murder. As the police investigates further they do not find any evidence to prove her story. The woman is convinced that she will be the next victim and starts her own investigation to find out what has really happened - trying to find the murderer before he finds her. I’m sorry Lfo fans, you’re going to be sorely disappointed if you turn on Antonio Tublen’s similarly titled movie expecting to hear about everyone’s favorite one-hit-wonder boy band (Chinese food makes me sick too!). Instead, Tublen’s Lfo is more an artistic exhibition than Hollywood journey, being the cinematic equivalent to Wes Bentley’s bag-obsessed character from American Beauty. There’s an admirable quality about Tublen’s aggressively eccentric story, which blends science and magical hypnotism, yet this same strive for obscurity also ends up being an over-bloated deterrent. What starts as a provocative existentialist look into a puppeteering society unravels in a hazy fog of European synth-pop, sexual desires and apocalyptic overtones, like a mad scientist’s experiment gone horribly awry.

For the past couple years at Fantastic Fest I have taken to getting international directors drunk and making them review their own films. One such director to succumb to my boozie entreaties at the 2013 edition of the festival was Sweden's Antonio Tublen who rambled on about (sort of about, anyway) his scifi effort Lfo here. Nope, it doesn't make sense to me, either, but we had a lot of fun doing it. And very soon audiences who want to try to decipher what exactly was going on in Tublen's brain as he wrote this will have the chance to do so with word that Spectrevision - the genre imprint owned and operated by Elijah Wood, Daniel Noah and Josh Waller - have come aboard...

In the new thinking man's sci-fi feature Lfo, writer/director Antonio Tublen crafts the tale of Robert (Patrik Karlson), a homebody and "private enthusiast" who spends most of his time avoiding his fatigued, critical wife Clara (Ahnna Rasch) and developing peculiar audio experiments in his basement. I love minor keys, and the new Swedish film Lfo is filled with them. Deftly casting a spell with low-frequency hums, surging synthesizers, and enigmatic characters, it's immediately captivating, even though the setting is not immediately apparent. Initially it reminded me of Peter Strickland's Berberian Sound Studio, in which a sound engineer is infected by the murderous atmosphere in an Italian studio where he works on horror movies. But Antonio Tublen, who directed Lfo from his own original script, has a very different kind of horror in mind. The film's sly, outrageous wit contributes to a jaunty atmosphere, creating an environment where, literally, anything goes. Robert Nord (Patrik Karlson) is the putative protagonist, a sad sack whose somber appearance -- uncombed hair, unshaven face, shirt...

Sweden's Antonio Tublen wants to control your mind, and he has the exact tools to do it. It all comes down to sound, you see, specific frequencies that make the human mind incredibly open to suggestion. It's a fearsome power, really, but don't worry.
