Kevin Spacey has spoken out against allegations of his illegal behaviour, ahead of a documentary about him due to air next week.
The actor, who was previously cleared of sexual assault after trials in the US and UK, gave an interview to former Gb News presenter Dan Wootton on his Outspoken channel on YouTube, where Spacey said that he may have at times in the past behaved inappropriately, but denied that he had behaved illegally.

“I’ve never told someone that if they give me sexual favours, then I will help them out with their career, ever.

In October 2017, Hollywood became the story. The New York Times’ blockbuster investigation of Harvey Weinstein shook the entertainment industry, unleashing a torrent of stories about harassment, abusive bosses, and exploitative power dynamics. The vast majority of victims who came forward were women, but just three weeks into what is now known as the #MeToo era, actor Anthony Rapp (Rent, Star Trek: Discovery) spoke out against Kevin Spacey, accusing the Oscar winner of drunkenly molesting him when he was 14 years old. Rapp said he wanted to “shine another light on the...

“I felt like I was staring at a soulless monster,” Daniel, an actor, says of his alleged sexual assault by Kevin Spacey in a new Channel 4 documentary promising a “forensic look” at the Oscar winner’s rise to stardom and his alleged sexual misconduct.
Spacey Unmasked features 10 men, Daniel among them, to tell their stories of alleged abuse at the hands of Spacey. None of them were involved in the London trial that saw the actor acquitted of nine charges in July 2023, and all but one have never spoken out before. The charges stemmed from alleged acts that occurred from 2001 to 2013; Spacey was artistic director of London’s Old Vic Theatre from 2004 until 2015.

Kevin Spacey is pushing back against the Channel 4 documentary Spacey Unmasked, billed as a “forensic look” at his career and the allegations of inappropriate sexual conduct against him, ahead of a U.K. premiere on May 6-7.
“I will not sit back and be attacked by a dying network’s one-sided ‘documentary’ about me in their desperate attempt for ratings,” Spacey said in a long thread on X, formerly Twitter, on Thursday. The Channel 4 doc comes in the wake of Spacey being acquitted in July 2023 of nine charges in a U.K. criminal case, and will air on Max and Investigation Discovery, though no U.S. premiere dates have been announced.
In his social media post, Spacey rejected the British broadcaster as the right forum for addressing his controversial past: “There’s a proper channel to handle allegations against me and it’s not Channel 4. Each time I have...

Less than two weeks after 20 Days in Mariupol won the Oscar for Best Documentary Feature, another important film about Ukraine has bowed on the world stage.
A Poem for Little People, directed by Ivan Sautkin, held its international premiere Thursday at Cph:dox in Copenhagen. It screens again on Saturday. In cinéma vérité style, the film documents the most vulnerable people on front lines of the war in Ukraine, and the volunteers of an evacuation team who risk their lives to save them.
“Through its two parallel plotlines, the film follows the exploits of a volunteer evacuation team in the front lines of Eastern Ukraine, led by young, precociously stoic Anton, as well as the wartime daily lives and unlikely friendship of two elderly women – pragmatic Zinaida and dreamy, starry-eyed Taisia – who decided to stay at their homes in the now de-occupied Chernihiv region,” according to a synopsis of the documentary.

The U.K.’s Documentary Film Council (Dfc) is seeking funds to support the independent documentary sector, which is under “existential threat.”
The Dfc was formed in response to a three-year study on the U.K. feature-length documentary film industry and co-designed by several organizations in the field, including Doc Society, Sheffield DocFest, the Grierson Trust, The Whickers, Scottish Documentary Institute, Docs Ireland and BBC Storyville.
An open letter to the U.K. screen industries compiled by the Dfc states that the formation of the Dfc is “based on the recognition that independent documentary in the U.K. faces an existential threat and that there is urgent need for coordinated, long-term interventions across the sector.”
“Films at the independent end of the spectrum – creative, observational, character-led films, films that originate outside of a commissioner’s brief or which explore difficult-but-vital political or cultural questions – are increasingly hard to get made,” the letter adds.

Karim Amer has made documentaries about seismic geopolitical events as they unfolded before. In the Oscar-nominated documentary The Square — which he produced — footage of the chaos and carnage in Cairo’s Tahrir Square helped offer an uniquely immersive account of the Egyptian Revolution of 2011.
But nothing he’d made previously compares to Defiant, premiering in Toronto on Sep. 9 and capturing Russia’s invasion of Ukraine from the unique perspective of key decision makers in Kiev — including minister of foreign affairs Dmytro Kuleba — politicians suddenly and unexpectedly thrust into a wartime government.
“The stakes are so high, because it’s the largest conflict we’ve seen since WWII and anything could happen,” says Amer, who swapped his producer hat for director, teaming up with longtime producer Mike Lerner (The Square, Hell and Back Again) and Odessa Rae, a newly-minted Oscar-winner for Navalny.

Kevin Spacey is getting back in front of the camera — this time as the subject of “Spacey Unmasked,” a docuseries from director Kira Phillips charting the actor’s rise and fall amid accusations of sexual misconduct. The two-part project will air on Channel 4 in the U.K.
The two-time Oscar winner and former “House of Cards” star and executive producer has largely been out of the limelight and Hollywood’s good graces since October 2017, when “Rent” actor Anthony Rapp publicly accused him of sexually pursuing him when he was just 14 years old. Several other men came forward with their own stories shortly thereafter.
Spacey and Rapp are now the subjects of a civil case due to be heard in October this year in New York. Spacey is also facing on four criminal sexual assault charges in the U.K. courts; a second hearing is scheduled for next month, and...

U.K. broadcaster Channel 4 has commissioned a two-part documentary about embattled actor Kevin Spacey.
Spacey is currently fighting multiple claims of sexual assault in the U.K. courts. He is due to attend a second hearing next month with a trial likely to be set for the end of the year or early 2023.
He is also involved a civil case with actor Anthony Rapp, whose initial claim of sexual assault against Spacey in 2017 opened the floodgates for an array of subsequent allegations, resulting in a flurry of civil and criminal claims. That case is due to be heard in October this year in New York.
Tentatively titled “Spacey Unmasked,” the docu-series will be made by Roast Beef Productions (“Pussy Riot: A Punk Prayer”) in association with All3Media. It will explore both Rapp’s case and the criminal proceedings in the U.K.

True crime docuseries “Who Is Ghislaine Maxwell?” asks — and promises to answer — why an educated socialite heiress would prey on other women. It seems thousands more people are wondering the same thing.
The three-part docuseries investigates how “socialite turned sex trafficker” Maxwell became entangled with convicted abuser Jeffrey Epstein for decades. The All3Media-produced series premieres Friday, June 24 at midnight on the Starz’s app and on-demand platforms. The first episode will air on the Starz channel Sunday, June 26 at 9 p.m. Et/Pt with the next two episodes following weekly.
“Who Is Ghislaine Maxwell?” works backward to see why Maxwell was convicted on sex-trafficking charges in December 2021; she is awaiting sentencing on June 28.
“We have grown used to stories of men preying on young women,” executive producer Dorothy Byrne said in a press statement. “The story of Ghislaine Maxwell shocks and fascinates because she was a woman who preyed on young women.

IFC Films has acquired North American rights to “The Meaning of Hitler,” Petra Epperlein and Michael Tucker’s thought-provoking documentary about the enduring cultural fascination with the Nazi dictator and its resonance on contemporary politics.
Filmed over the course of four years, the documentary is set against the backdrop of the current rise of white supremacy and anti-Semitism, and explores the myths and misconceptions of our understanding of the past. Shot in nine countries, “The Meaning of Hitler” traces the dictator’s movements, his rise to power, and the scenes of his crimes through the lens of key locations in his life.
The documentary’s framework is inspired by Sebastian Haffner’s 1978 best-selling book of the same title, which dismantled the legend surrounding Hitler’s life through interviews with subjects including Martin Amis, Saul Friedländer, Richard Evans, Yehuda Bauer and famed Nazi hunters Beate and Serge Klarsfeld.

“Hold Me Right,” a documentary by first-time Serbian director Danijela Stajnfeld, is certain to shake this year’s Sarajevo Film Festival with its exploration of sexual assault and its impact on survivors.
Stajnfeld, a celebrated actress in Serbia, left the country for the U.S. a few years ago after she was sexually assaulted by a powerful and well-known industry figure. The attack left her traumatized and unable to speak about it for a long time.
She ultimately made “Hold Me Right” about the experience and those of other victims of sexual assault who she met in the U.S. The film, which screens in Sarajevo’s documentary competition section, highlights the plight of survivors whose voices still go unheard even in today’s post-#MeToo era.
Still suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder when she arrived in the U.S., Stajnfeld says she slowly recovered with the help of friends.

Last week, New York instrumental metal trio Behold the Arctopus announced their upcoming album with a question. “Is anyone else tired of how painfully slow metal has evolved recently,” a press release began, “compared to how quickly innovations occurred at the end of the last century?”
Unless you’re a die-hard fan of the genre, it’s unlikely you’ll answer yes, or have much of an opinion either way. But the inquiry itself gets at something fascinating: whether, in metal or any other style, evolution is even a priority.
