There will be no leap to season three for NBC’s Quantum Leap.
The network has canceled the reboot of the 1989 series after a two-season run, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter.
The series starring Raymond Lee wrapped its sophomore season in February and ranked as one of the broadcast network’s lowest-rated scripted originals.
Quantum Leap, which was produced in-house at Universal Television, earned a speedy season two renewal as NBC kept production going in a bid to have scripted originals during the writers and actors strikes.
The follow-up to the original series hailed from Martin Gero and Dean Georgaris, who exec-produced alongside Deborah Pratt, Chris Grismer and Alex Berger. Steven Lilien and Bryan Wynbrandt developed the series and served as showrunners on the update.

“Quantum Leap” has been canceled at NBC after two seasons, Variety has confirmed.
The show served as a followup to the 1989 show of the same name starring Scott Bakula and Dean Stockwell. The revamped version starred Raymond Lee as physicist Dr. Ben Song, whose attempt to restart the Quantum Leap project pioneered by Dr. Sam Beckett leads to him being trapped in different people’s lives in the past just like Beckett. As he seeks to put right what once went wrong in those lives, he “leaps” to different lives while hoping that each leap will be the leap home.
The cast of the series also included Caitlin Bassett, Ernie Hudson, Mason Alexander Park, and Nanrisa Lee. Steven Lilien and Bryan Wynbrandt developed the series and served as executive producers alongside Martin Gero via Quinn’s House, Dean Georgaris, Deborah Pratt, Chris Grismer, and Alex Berger. Universal Television was the studio.

Exclusive: NBC has decided not to proceed with a third season of its Quantum Leap reboot starring Raymond Lee. The news comes more than a month after the two-hour Season 2 finale aired Feb. 20.
The development is not entirely surprising as the series, from Universal Television, had been on the bubble. That is in contrast to last season when Quantum Leap received a very early renewal in December 2022.
A follow-up to the original series, which aired on NBC from 1989-93, Quantum Leap is set in present day. It’s been 30 years since Dr. Sam Beckett stepped into the Quantum Leap accelerator and vanished. Now a new team has been assembled to restart the project in the hopes of understanding the mysteries behind the machine and the man who created it.
In addition to Lee, the series stars Ernie Hudson, Caitlin Bassett, Mason Alexander Park and Nanrisa Lee.

NBC's revival of the Quantum Leap series has been a masterclass on how to continue a beloved narrative while moving it forward in scope and messaging.
The writer-producer dynamo duo behind its success, Martin Gero and Dean Georgaris, lead the production team with ambitious enthusiasm and vision.
Thanks to their foresight, Quantum Leap was one of the few series that premiered new episodes this fall amid the Hollywood writers' and actors' strikes.
Speaking with TV Fanatic via Zoom after the WGA had settled their collective bargaining but before SAG-AFTRA had come to an agreement, Gero and Georgaris -- referred to collectively as "Martin-and-Dean" -- were a wealth of information on Quantum Leap Season 2.
"It will be a minimum of thirteen episodes," Gero shared off the top. "There's a lot of up in the air right now, obviously. The actors are still on strike, and we can't resume filming until...

As part of a wave of revival shows, NBC's Quantum Leap has stood out as one that has forged new paths and introduced new characters while staying anchored to the original series.
With exciting adventures, an intriguing long arc narrative, and solid cast chemistry, Quantum Leap Season 1 won over fans of the 1980s series and added legions of new ones.
Speaking with TV Fanatic via Zoom, executive producer Chris Grismer answered our questions about the new season, premiering on October 4 at 8/7c.
With directing credits on shows like The Unsettling, Freakish, and The Vampire Diaries, Grismer is no stranger to the weird and wonderful world of the unknown. He was also familiar with the original Quantum Leap series before directing four episodes in Season 1 of the revival.
"I did like the original series. I wasn't an obsessive fan, but I had watched a bunch of the episodes when I was younger.

Quantum Leap wouldn’t be Quantum Leap without Dr. Ben Song (Raymond Lee) jumping into other people’s bodies in various time periods. So, you guessed it, things didn’t go as planned after that Season 1 cliffhanger of the revival of the 1989-1993 series (which starred Scott Bakula) when his team — Addison (Caitlin Bassett), Ian (Mason Alexander Park), Jenn (Nanrisa Lee) and Magic (Ernie Hudson) — were left waiting for Ben to finally come home. Alas, we’ll find out what happened in the October 4 Season 2 premiere when we find Ben on a plane that crash-lands in 1978 Russia (the episode guest stars Manifest‘s Melissa Roxburgh). “We’ve opened up the world” for Season 2, says executive producer and director Chris Grismer. Valiant Ben investigates the Salem Witch Trials in 1692, UFOs in 1949 New Mexico, the 1992 Los Angeles riots, and “Hitchcockian” goings-on in a 1961-set hour that was actually filmed in Egypt. “Quantum Leap” just fast-forwarded to Season 2. NBC has renewed its new “Quantum Leap,” the revival of the ’90s science-fiction series, for a second season.
This “Quantum Leap,” which stars Raymond Lee as Dr. Ben Song, has been a strong performer for both NBC and for Peacock, where episodes stream next-day. “Quantum Leap” (2022) sees Song following up on the work of Scott Bakula’s lead character Dr. Sam Beckett — and his time-travel adventures — 30 years later.
“Quantum Leap” airs Mondays at 10 p.m. on NBC, following “The Voice.” Currently on a winter break, “Leap” returns January 2. (“The Voice” is airing its two-part season finale tonight and tomorrow night.) To-date, “Quantum Leap” pilot episode has amassed more than 10 million viewers across the broadcast network and NBCUniversal’s streaming service. That’s pretty good these days, but execs will love to leap back to the Nielsen ratings sheets of 1989.

Quantum Leap: Sequel series to the time-hopping adventure adds six extra episodes to premiere season
TV reboots have been happening for decades. Some to great success and some to dismal failure. High concept sci-fi shows lend themselves to easily adaptable updates that can expand the universe of the story as well as advance the technological display within the story and also in the making of the show. A recent TV series reimagining is that of a sequel to 1989’s Quantum Leap, which originally starred Scott Bakula as a time traveler who tries to get home randomly transported into the bodies of people in different eras as he tries to make his way back home.
The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that the 2022 reboot show has now had six extra episodes added to its freshman schedule, which now brings season one to a total of 18 episodes. The new series from showrunner, Martin Gero, premiered in September with just over 3 million viewers and averaged about 3 million viewers in the first three episodes.

"When Sophie reveals some life-changing news, Elijah realizes that the 'Original' family may have been given a second chance at humanity and redemption. Klaus, however, is more intrigued by his recent unexpected reunion with his former protégé, 'Marcel', a charismatic but diabolical vampire who now has total control over the supernatural inhabitants of New Orleans.

The Originals, Season 2, Episode 15, “They All Asked For You”
Written by Michelle Paradise
Directed by Chris Grismer
Airs Mondays at 8pm (Et) on The CW
On this week’s The Originals, Klaus hunts for Finn, Freya reunites with her brothers, Elijah and Gia charm an elderly witch, Rebekah unwittingly seeks Marcel’s help, and Hayley and Jackson play house with Hope.

Some of the character moments in the episode are actually very good and well-done, especially regarding Elijah and Gia. Aside from the vampirism, the...
