Black clothes. White skull. Smoking guns. These are the gloriously simple ingredients behind the Punisher, the no-holds-barred antihero who'll soon be starring in one of the fall's most anticipated series. As played by The Walking Dead's Jon Bernthal during the second season of Netflix's Daredevil, the gun-toting vigilante stole every scene he was in, making the network's relentless campaign of teases and trailers damn near irresistible. But like every major superhero, he's taken a long strange trip from his comic-book origins to his modern-day multimedia superstardom. Below, you'll find...

This review is based off a volume that collects Punisher: Trial of the Punisher #1-2, Bullseye: Perfect Game #1-2 and material from Daredevil #500.
It’s not very often that I get to review a trade paperback that’s an anthology in the purest sense, so I find myself most fortunate that this one – Punisher & Bullseye: Deadliest Hits – focuses heavily on one of my favorite Marvel characters, Frank Castle.
Before delving into the content itself, I can’t help but voice my bewilderment as to why the co-headliners were even paired for this compilation. I mean, this isn’t a Punisher vs. Bullseye book by any stretch of the imagination. If anything, Daredevil is the connecting thread here, as he does appear in each story in some capacity. In fact, they could’ve easily put his name on this book, which may have even boosted sales.
But, there are various factors to consider,...

Update: It's a good day for genre telly as, in addition to Agent Carter winning a series order and Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. scoring a second season, Constantine will become a series. No word yet on when it might make it over here.As previously announced, Matt Ryan has the lead as the titular blue-collar mage in NBC's new Constantine TV series. Now, here's our first look at him in costume, and it's a get-up that should be pleasingly familiar to anyone au fait with the DC/Vertigo Hellblazer (and Swamp Thing) comics in which the character originally lurked.Trenchcoat, tie, white shirt, blonde hair: it's practically a uniform, and damn close to the images (based on Sting, of all people) drawn by the likes of Rick Veitch, Steve Dillon, Glenn Fabry, Tim Bradstreet et al. The one thing that's missing is a cigarette, but there does seem to be some...

Tim Bradstreet is a literal and figurative titan in the world of comic books, and if his current trajectory stays true, you’ll be seeing his name in the credits of movies, too. It’s become something of a yearly tradition to the stop by the Raw booth, home to Bradstreet and frequent collaborator Tom Jane, as well as visitors like Todd Farmer and creator of “The Crow,“ James O’Barr, who’s consulting on the upcoming theatrical version of his comic creation. Despite being the size and having the general appearance of a grizzly bear, Bradstreet is also one of the nicest guys you’ll ever meet. Our short interview stretched out to twice the intended time and veered wildly off course while a half-dozen or so well wishers and friends popped by the booth. A conversation worthy of the chaotic Comic-Con show floor. Most recently Bradstreet has been working on covers for the current incarnation...

DC Comics continues its release of a year's worth of Watchmen prequels with Before Watchmen: Comedian / Rorschach Deluxe Edition. This hardcover collection contains issues one through six of the Comedian title and issues one through four of Rorschach. Both books were penned by Brian Azzarello with art provided by J.G. Jones for Comedian and Lee Bermejo for Rorschach.
Before Watchmen: Comedian takes the reader back in time and gives insight into what makes Edward Blake tick. The Comedian crosses paths with Bobby Kennedy, Jackie Kennedy Onassis, Marilyn Monroe, and other historical figures. You'll be shocked at some of the tragedies attributed to Mr. Blake.
Writer Brian Azzarello really steps out on a limb for Before Watchmen: Comedian. He spins complex and engaging tales which tie certain catastrophic world events to one individual. The entertaining ride features alternate historical takes which could be construed by many as patriotic and political heresy.

There’s a long history of comic book artists treading into the neighboring world of album cover art especially when psychedelia, counter-culture, fantasy or heavy metal bridged the distance between the art table and the turn table. Usually it’s an art table star — like R. Crumb, Berni Wrightson, Barry Windsor-Smith or Paul Pope to just a few — playing the tourist in turntable territory but the exact opposite is the case with the cover for Head Smash.
The haunting image is the handiwork of Joe Perez, the designer and art director best known for his work with Kanye West and Donda.

“Batman/Deathblow: After the Fire” is a hardcover “deluxe” re-issue of a 3-shot miniseries from 2002 which crossed over Batman and a ‘90s Wildstorm character, Michael Cray aka Deathblow. The book has a really confusing plot that’s hard to explain, but here goes: first off, it’s not really a crossover as the two characters never meet but instead have their two separate stories running parallel throughout. Batman’s storyline is set 10 years after Deathblow’s, though both take place in Gotham.
10 years ago, Deathblow is hunting a bad guy called Falcon who’s selling organisational secrets and whose former bosses have hired Deathblow to silence him. Accompanying Deathblow is Scott Floyd, who winds up as Bruce Wayne’s buddy years later and is the only connection between the two characters. Standing in Deathblow’s path to Falcon is a pyrotechnic mutant.
10 years later, the pyrotechnic mutant has reappeared along...

He's jumped genres, decades and mediums throughout his 20-plus year career and on March 23, Thomas Jane's work -- The Punisher in particular -- will be celebrated at The Gasparilla Film Festival when they bestow him with their International Career Achievement Award.
Jane, who will accept his award following a screening of The Punisher (which was filmed 10 years ago in Florida), recently sat down with ETonline to talk about this unexpected honor, explain how he perfected The Punisher and reflect upon the very intentional diversity of his career.
ETonline: First of all, congratulations on the Career Achievement Award!
Thomas Jane: Thank you. I have to say, I was very surprised. A lifetime achievement award is not something I ever expected ... isn't that the kind of stuff they give you when you're an old man? Maybe I'm underestimating how old I am [laughs]. I just feel like I have a lot left to do.

Here's a collection of great looking Game of Thrones art that was created for a Mondo art show currently taking place at SXSW.
These are 20 original poster designs, and they are selling over at Mondo for between $600 to $15,000. Some of them though are being released as limited edition prints for less. Mondo CEO Justin Ishmael had this to say in a statement,
Game of Thrones is a favorite of ours at Mondo. The gallery event is intended to honor the show’s attention to visual detail and the beautiful world that George R.R. Martin has imagined … we hope the fans feel our work has done justice to the show.
The artists who were included in the show includes Craig Drake, Daniel Danger, Ken Taylor, Sanjulian, Audrey Kawasaki, Jock, Killian Eng, Esao Andrews, Tom Bagshaw, Jacob Bannon, Tim Bradstreet, Bruce White, Chet Zar, Jason Edmiston, Thomas Hooper, Joao Ruas, Audrey Kawasaki,...

Somewhere amidst the mess that was a cool, stormy night last night in downtown Austin, Texas, a man could have found himself on the corner of 4th and Brazos Street, hurriedly working his way toward the Austin Convention Center, dodging frantic pedicab drivers and their mostly soaked clientele. It was a scene that might cause a man to wonder, perhaps not aloud, but wonder all the same: is winter coming? That man was most certainly not yours truly, as this writer was at home staring at a pile of Game of Thrones posters purchased on borrowed money from the Mondo Gallery show opening two days prior. But there’s no doubt that someone had the experience described above. A notion born out of Austin’s unexpectedly apocalyptic late-night weather and the fact that HBO’s mighty series has invaded the streets of Austin. The latter of which has been the subject of great fun for South by...

Lance Henriksen has a new project to unveil, and it's not what you might think. We spoke with him not about a new film or television show; he's now a comic book writer and is proud to announce his upcoming title To Hell You Ride. Co-writer Joseph Maddrey also joined our chat.
Henriksen and Maddrey collaborated previously and have reconnected for the supernatural comic book To Hell You Ride. Thomas Jane (Hung, Boogie Nights) is soon set to return to the director’s chair early next year, to film what’s being described as a kind of Gothic Western, A Magnificent Death from a Shattered Hand.
Jane will be starring in the lead himself, alongside Nick Nolte and Jeremy Irons, making for a pretty excellent cast.
A promo poster had surfaced in photo form from Comic-Con earlier in the year, but now BigFanBoy have debuted these two early promo posters online, the second of which is designed by business partner/comic book & poster artist/long-term collaborator, Tim Broadstreet.
Little is known about the plot, but Jane spoke of the film’s events a few months back as surrounding a man whose father had committed a terrible robbery in his youth and buried the treasure.
Jane is very much a multi-hyphenate, getting involved with art across so many different media – most recently,...

Way back in July I had the opportunity to sit down with Tim Bradstreet and discuss several of the past, present and future projects that were happening at Raw Studios. One of the projects which we discussed in depth was the graphic novel for Dark Country. They had just released it in time for the San Diego Comic-Con and I was one of the first to get my grubby little hands on it! Dark Country may sound familiar to some, especially fans of Thomas Jane, as he acted and directed a film of the same name that was released back in 2009. What you may not know is that Thomas Jane's Dark Country film was inspired by the short story written by Tab Murphy. Thomas Ott's graphic storytelling in Dead End and Greetings from Hellville were also hugely inspirational when it came to directing Dark Country. The fact that...
