Details on Jim Jarmusch‘s surprise new film project have finally been revealed, and it’s a family affair.
Paparazzi photos from the set made the rounds in January, showing Cate Blanchett filming an outdoor scene with Vicky Krieps (in a pink wig) but little was known about the project at the time as Jarmusch tends to keep things closely guarded. However, on Thursday in Cannes the Match Factory confirmed that it had boarded the project and will handle international sales during the film festival while Jarmusch completes post-production back in New York.
The film is titled Father Mother Sister Brother and features some of his trusted collaborators. The cast includes Blanchett, Krieps, Adam Driver, Mayim Bialik, Tom Waits, Charlotte Rampling, Indya Moore and Luka Sabbat. Per official intel received by The Hollywood Reporter, Father Mother Sister Brother is described as “a feature film in the form of a triptych.

Adam Driver, Mayim Bialik, Tom Waits, Charlotte Rampling, Indya Moore and Luka Sabbat have joined the cast of Jim Jarmusch’s anticipated next film, “Father Mother Sister Brother.”
They’re joining Cate Blanchett and Vicky Krieps, who were previously rumored to be starring after being photographed on set. “Father Mother Sister Brother” recently wrapped production in Paris following shoots in Dublin, Ireland and in the Northeastern U.S. Post-production has begun New York, and the film is expected to be finished later this year.
“Father Mother Sister Brother” is a triptych, following three separate stories set in different countries and revolving around relationships between adult children, their somewhat distant parents and each other. The first part, “Father,” is set in the east coast in Northeastern U.S., “Mother” in Dublin, Ireland, and “Sister Brother” in Paris, France.

This September, Naomi Watts stars in director Matt Sobel’s thriller Goodnight Mommy. The film will be available globally via Prime Video on September 16, 2022.
When twin brothers (Cameron and Nicholas Crovetti) arrive at their mother’s (Naomi Watts) country home to discover her face covered in bandages—the result, she explains, of recent cosmetic surgery—they immediately sense that something doesn’t add up. She sets strange new house rules, smokes in her bathroom, and secretly rips up a drawing they gave her—things their loving mother would never do. As her behavior grows increasingly bizarre and erratic, a horrifying thought takes root in the boys’ minds: The sinking suspicion that the woman beneath the gauze, who’s making their food and sleeping in the next room, isn’t their mother at all.

Coming to Prime Video on September 16 is Goodnight Mommy.
Twin brothers (Cameron and Nicholas Crovetti) arrive at their Mother’s country home (Naomi Watts) to discover her face covered in surgical bandages. Immediately something is off. Their Mother smokes, sets strict rules, refuses to sing their favorite bedtime song, and secretly rips up a drawing Elias gives her — things their previously warm, caring mom would never do. They begin to suspect the woman is not their mother at all, but even after she turns violent, the police don’t believe the children are in danger. Becoming increasingly suspicious, the boys try to uncover who they are really living with, in this suspenseful, psychological thriller.
Goodnight Mommy is directed by Matt Sobel from a screenplay by Kyle Warren, based on the 2014 film Goodnight Mommy (written and directed by Veronika Franz and Severin Fiala, produced by Ulrich Seidl).

Naomi Watts stars as an unsettling mother whose face is wrapped in bandages in the official trailer for Matt Sobel’s “Goodnight Mommy.”
A remake of the 2014 Austrian film of the same name, the horror movie follows two twin brothers, played by real-life twins Cameron and Nicholas Crovetti, who visit their mother after her recent reconstructive surgery. However, it quickly becomes clear something isn’t right with her.
Additional cast members for “Goodnight Mommy” include Jeremy Bobb, Crystal Lucas-Perry and Peter Hermann.

Based on Veronika Franz and Severin Fiala’s 2014 film, the psychological thriller features Watts as a mother visited by her twin sons (Cameron and Nicholas Crovetti), who come to stay with her at her country home. But when the boys arrive, they find their mother — or the woman claiming to be her — covered in bandages after undergoing a recent cosmetic surgery.

“Nomadland” won Best Feature at the Gotham Awards, held on January 11 and honoring the best achievements in American independent film from the year 2020. This is the second win in three years for director Chloe Zhao, whose “The Rider” previously upset to win the top prize in 2018 against “The Favourite,” “If Beale Street Could Talk” and “First Reformed.” Check out the complete list of Gotham winners here.
The Gothams are tougher to predict than most awards shows since winners are decided by small juries composed of five film industry insiders each. The makeup of those juries can swing results in unique ways, but it also levels the playing field so that under-the-radar films are not disadvantaged against the highest-profile nominees (we’ve noted all jurors on our list of winners).

Bill Murray, Adam Driver, and Chloe Sevigny are bespectacled — and deadpan — small-town sheriff’s deputies battling an army of zombies in the first trailer for Jim Jarmusch’s “The Dead Don’t Die.”
“In this peaceful town, on these quiet streets, something terrifying, something horrifying is coming,” a voiceover intones, followed by the town’s cafe getting invaded by the undead.
“This is really awful, maybe the worst thing I’ve ever seen,” Murray’s horrified deputy notes upon arriving on the scene.
Murray and Driver then investigate a gravesite that’s been disturbed at the local cemetery, with Driver concluding, “Oh, man, this isn’t going to end well.”
The trailer wraps with Driver leaning out of a moving sheriff’s cruiser and using a sword to behead a zombie, prompting Murray to compliment his swing and recall that he had played Minor League Baseball.

In the peaceful town of Centerville, “something terrifying, something horrifying is coming.” When some people are violently killed at the local greasy spoon, the first responders and others ponder, “What the hell was it?” The go-to theory: wild animals. The new theory? “I’m thinkin’ zombies. You know, the undead. Ghouls.”
Later, when town cops Bill Murray and Adam Driver discover freshly unearthed graves at the cemetery, comes the Understatement of the Day: “Oh man, this isn’t gonna end well.”

Cannes and Netflix could be a perfect match: the highest-profile film festival in the world and the film industry’s biggest disruptor, joining forces to sustain the future of the art form. For now, however, the two institutions are in a standoff that has no end in sight, leaving filmmakers and producers in a state of frustration.
After facing pressure from French exhibitors, Cannes added a rule in 2017 that required official competition entries to plan a French theatrical release. That’s a nonstarter for Netflix, since France mandates a three-year window before theatrical releases can be seen on streaming platforms. When Netflix and Cannes couldn’t come to terms, Netflix pulled all of its films.
The five titles included Alfonso Cuaron’s long-awaited return to Mexico with the 70mm “Roma” (which Cannes offered to play in competition if Netflix released the film in France) and the restoration of Orson Welles’ final feature,...

That’s because the Sundance Film Festival lineup typically drops in the middle of November, shaking up the holiday season with a mixture of familiar faces and newcomers who could make an impact in Park City this January. With programmers working in overdrive to complete the lineup in the coming weeks, and filmmakers praying to break through as the deadlines loom, we’ve cobbled together as much intel as we can for this extensive preview featuring dozens of promising titles that stand a good chance at making their way to Sundance this year. As usual, we’ve tried to avoid projects that are...
