The Dukes of Hazzard (1979–1985)
Yeehaa or yeeno?
1 October 2003
This is not another series about two handsome Dixie boys eh? Yes it is. They drive around in a fancy looking but orange painted Dodge Charger called "General Lee", and have a hot chick cousin named Daisy. They're usually chase by the country's stupid sheriff and his equally stupid deputy who do this because they were told so by the county commissioner Boss Hogg, a fat, greedy money-obsessed guy who hates the Dukes because of... reasons you 'll discover while watching it. The moral and wise lessons, the humour and action are all there together with Tom Wopat and John Schneider's unearthly good looks you'll have plenty of reasons to watch at least ONE episode... And last but not least: the CAR's the STAR!!! (I liked it but PLEASE this is not an EXCELLENT series from the early eighties, OKAY?)

Ghost Ship (2002)
Action-packed-shocking-bloody-creepy-movie
4 January 2003
Warning: Spoilers
Hmm, I don't really have much to say. "Ghost Ship" was not bad. It was quite a trill. It was shocking, bloody, creepy. It was horror, and maybe a little bit more than your average horror movie - thanks to the fantastic CGI-effects movie makers can add to their movies. My favourite actors were Julianna Marguies en Emily Browning, playing my favourite two characters: (Maureen) Epps en Kathie. Action is present most of the time, and while watching, the viewer will suddenly feel this uncontrollable desire to unfold the mystery of the Antonia Graza. It is kept a close secret, that is for sure! (COULD THIS BE A) SPOILER? I think the friendship that grows between Kathie and Epps is one of the most touching events to occur during the movie - without mentioning the "spectacular" end, well, you need to see that for yourself. I just want to say: compare it to the ending of "The Haunting" and you'll probably know what I mean. And last but not least: this movie supports one hell of a soundtrack!!!

Amazing story - incredible movie
27 December 2002
Let me start by saying: I've NEVER read a book of the Lord of the Rings trilogy. When I bought the DVD, I didn't even know who was who and what the movie was really about. So far, I was like, a stranger walking around Middle Earth. But after seeing the Extended Special Edition (which includes 30 minutes of extra material, but I can only guess which scenes since I never saw it in theatres), I could only think:

Waw, what an amazing story, what an incredible movie - worthy of the name epic, worthy of the title BEST movie of 2001. And as sure as I am about this one, I can already feel that the second and third part of the Trilogy will be just as good. This is fantasy for young and old, something you can't really say about Harry Potter. I think Peter Jackson did a great job making this movie and last but not least: the cast is absolutely perfect.

M*A*S*H (1972–1983)
It was good while it lasted... in this case: too long!!!
25 December 2002
Warning: Spoilers
SPOILER ALERT!!! (just a few, don't worry too much) M*A*S*H is certainly one of the best tv-series ever made BUT it's too long. Eleven darn seasons, you can imagine things to go horribly wrong after such a long period, right? M*A*S*H rocked from season 1 to 4, but everything after that was (co)written/directed/made up by Alan Alda, and, let's be honest: he made a mess out of it! We don't need weeping soldiers, crying over lost limbs and shocking war experiences, we don't need to be told episode after episode that war is a bad thing, WE WANT PLAIN HUMOUR!!!

And yes, I do regret Trapper John's replacement: BJ is ok, but he cannot beat Trapper. And Radar, oh why did he have to go... He gave the show that little extra, you know, I can't really explain but it's a sad thing, that's for sure. Hawkeye has always been my favorite, and even during the later seasons I tried to stay hooked, but it was a fact: the laughter had died out. Anyway, the first two seasons are available on DVD, that's a good thing, eh?

Reign of Fire (2002)
Dragons... and that's ALL
23 November 2002
Warning: Spoilers
Dragons, and that's ALL this movie has to offer. The way the dragons are behaving, flying, the sounds... it's all really cool and really ok. But now comes what's not-so-cool-and-certainly-NOT-ok!!!

1) The dialogues are worser than worse. I mean, hèllo, this is a movie for people who are aged 13+. In my eyes, they aren't kids anymore. You SHOULD be able to write a bit more catchy and less boring dialogues than this, right?

2) Where's the point? Killing dragons is easy, but you cannot expect the audience to be interested in that topic for TWO hours???

LITTLE SPOILER: Here's what I don't get: when young Quinn releases a medieval dragon in one of the deep underground caves, it is clear that for the moment that dragon was the only living dragon on earth. But years later, those fire breathing, ash-eating, flying monsters are all over the place! Ok, ok we're nearly there... Hang on. So one moment, Van Zan tells Quinn that there's one male dragon which impregnates all the females (so, all the other dragons are females ). Okay, if THAT male was the one that Quinn discovered, how can there be an army of dragons??? He can't have possibly laid an egg or so? That's a suitable theory for sci-fi classics as the Alien Saga, but DRAGONS? I suppose if is was a FEMALE, it might have been believable, yet, she would have to carry impregnated eggs, thus, eggs containing DRAGON EMBRYOS. And since we don't know any of this, I think it is the biggest goof of the movie.

OR: I might be really wrong...

Anyway, if you like dragons, buy the DVD/VHS at any rate.

Excellent entertainment!
24 August 2002
This was the first time ever I watched South Park. And I LOVED it! During the part where the boys are watching the notorious 'Terrance & Phillip'movie, I've laughed so hard I fell out of the sofa. That explains enough, doesn't it? I mean, it was so extremely funny I just couldn't stop laughing. If it wasn't for the language used in this movie, I guess everyone could just enjoy this piece of excellent entertainment, but because of the non-stop swearing it's just not suitable for children under the age of sixteen.

Although my feelings towards the whole concept of the movie are quite positive, although I must say that Trey Parker and the writers shouldn't have made the Canadians so obviously ridiculous. And I also think that the 'war against Canada' must have upset the Canadian audience ( a bit ). Maybe not, but as a Canada-fan, I didn't really like it.

The scenes with Saddam and Satan are hilarious but tend to get boring after a while (sigh) and Kenny's ghostly appearance was incredibly funny. Oh yes, how can I possibly forget about the SONGS? Man, that was SO BIG! It all starts with this lame, stupid song about South Park's spotless reputation as a normal, lovely, boring, etc. mountain town. Then there's the unforgettable song in "Asses of Fire", sung by Terrance & Phillip, and after that we get these filty, cruel sing-a-longs performed by the kids of South Park. You should especially pay attention to Cartman's song about Kyle's ( or was it Stan? I always mix them up! ) Mom. And that's all I've got to say about "South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut".

Relic Hunter (1999–2002)
Looks like Tomb Raider but it's okay
23 March 2002
So this is really like Tomb Raider on your screen but ehm, it's quite good. Yes there are some very good locations to see throughout the series and the must-have objects are sometimes very interesting. I could even say that some have an actual historical value and/or seem to come close to their existing counterparts - I hope I'm not making it too difficult to understand? am I? And of course: Sydney's not alone (she's got her loyal partner Nigel) and she too has her share of enemies. A real relic hunter knows the name of the game! You've got to watch this series - if you can...! 9/10

Alias (2001–2006)
The best on TV (for now...)
8 March 2002
Warning: Spoilers
THIS CAN CONTAIN A EHM SPOILER: The series has an incredible array of good actors (Jennifer Garner, Victor Garber, etc.) and a really excellent soundtrack. And the episodes' writers are talented, I tell you. It seems that that when something goes well one minute it can end up really bad the next minute, but the ending, that's so great each time, I don't tell what exactly but you'll see what I mean. I looooove it, this should travel all around the world, so everyone can enjoy it!!!! "Alias" is exactly what a good TV series should be like, yessir. Good series: 10/10

Comedy and action do mix, this the prove!
8 March 2002
Dan Aykroyd and John Cusack together, I've always wondered what that would be like... and boy does the result feel good. "Grosse Pointe Blank" is not about only firing bullets, hiding your identity, doing your job and in the meanwhile attend a high school reunion, no, it's a first class comedy with a tons of action. It's incredible, it's okay. The village of Grosse Pointe is a small but nice place, the characters actually don't belong there, but the actions that take place are funny, but not the average Schwarzenegger-style murders. The relationship between Cusacks character, Martin Blank and his long lost girlfriend Debi is a big deal in this movie. But eh, what will become of them? Oh yes, you must see this movie. ***1/2 out of *****

MUCH better than the first movie!!!
8 March 2002
I've seen Ghostbusters ( the first movie ) too, but the sequel just ROCKS!!! I mean, it's much better because the plot is definitely improved, the events that take place ( the interaction with the ghosts ) and the eh... well just about everything seems to be improved. Yeah, I still enjoy this movie. Dan Aykroyd is a hell of an actor, but the same goes for Bill Murray and Harold Ramis. Seeing Sigourney Weaver as the 'normal' victim of evil paranormal activities is a nice change, cause I started to think of her as the PERFECT Alien eliminator, haha. Anyway, you should really try to see this movie, just for fun, just for the love of watching good movies. It is a classic and it shall be remembered as maybe the only sequel that is way better than it's predecessor. ****1/2 out of *****

Excellent!
30 December 2001
Of course, "Legally Blonde" is not going to become the best movie of 2001, but it's truly worth the watching. Reese Witherspoon has proven once again that she's a gifted actress. As for the supporting cast:(especially Luke Wilson and Victor Garber) superb acting from all of you.

The concept of the movie is a tribute to blondes all over the world. Instead of making fun out of them, they are finally being showed as intelligent creatures. Elle Woods, a natural blonde CULA student, is furious when she is being dumped by her boyfriend, Warner. He thinks he has to become serious... and Elle is too blonde!

Elle is not going to let him slip away. She follows Warner into Harvard Law School but that's not like good ol' CULA! On top of it, she learns that Warner's new girlfriend (actually, they're engaged!) used to be his ex from a long time ago, and she's not dumb at all...

So when everything seems to go wrong, Elle keeps her head up and makes a total change. She starts to study like she's never done before to impress the teachers ànd Warner of course. Especially professor Callahan (Victor Garber) is interested in ms. Woods' talent. When he wants four associates for an important case, he chooses Elle to become one of them. A real challenge for our blonde, since both Warner and his fiancée are part of the group. All goes very well, until Callahan gets a bit too 'close' with Elle. She steps out of the team and tries to solve the case on her own. Will she succeed? That's up to you to find out, yes, I really recommend all the readers of this review to see 'Legally Blonde'. Excellent movie with an excellent cast and excellent performances.

Let Me Call You Sweetheart (1997 TV Movie)
Why do they all look the same???
14 December 2001
Warning: Spoilers
MAYBE SOME THINGS IN THIS REVIEW MAY LOOK LIKE A SPOILER, BUT DON'T MIND THAT, OK??? It's so weird you know, all these TV-movies seem to look just the same. "Let Me Call You Sweetheart" was not bad, because the actors were fine. I've seen Meredith Baxter before (forgot the movie) and she was outstanding as Kerry McGrath, the caring mother and successful lawyer. The plot did it again: main character discovers something weird, uses her job to solve the thing, finds a partner who knows more about it, gets too involved, but then when you think it's gonna go wrong... yep, you know what I mean.

Victor Garber (let me be honest, he WAS the reason why I wanted to see the movie) doesn't look too old for the role of Geoffrey. Jeez, man, he looks 38 instead of the 48 years he was when the movie was made. Geoff Dorso is the kinda person we would all love and support. Good lawyer, good looks and good hearted. Finally, the bad guys are bad and don't seem to have any heart at all.

Nothing special, really, just another TV-movie with a WHAT-DO-YOU-THINK-end. Only Victorites -like me- will have enjoyed it.

The Haunting (1999)
I really like the statues & paintings...
20 October 2001
Warning: Spoilers
********THIS REVIEW MAY CONTAIN SMALL SPOILERS!!!***********

What's the matter with trailers these days? They show only the best parts of a movie, so that when you're watching the damn thing, you can find out it actually sucks! Like most of the movie fans on this site, I can conclude that the acting was terrible! I mean, I've seen Liam Neeson in 'Nell' and 'Rob Roy' and oh yes, 'The Phantom Menace ( Star Wars )', anyhow: he can do much better than THIS! Lily Taylor ( never heard of her before ) and Catherine ( yuck yuck ) as well as Owen Wilson ( look at that: the giant lion head bites his head off: yippeee! ) playing Luke Sanders, but erhm, it wasn't Wilson who annoyed me but his character, so sorry Owen..., they ALL seem to have no experience with acting. The plot did it again, right?

What is so great about 'The Haunting' that I've bought both the VHS and the DVD-version? Well, listen up:

**********HILL HOUSE-HILL HOUSE-HILL HOUSE-************* The Great Hall is the most spectacular part of the set, the painting of Hugh Crain, the fireplace,... Most people think the SFX suck too, but hey, that's not TRUE!!! The statues coming alive and the ghosts are very realistic. I do admit they could have made the children look less cartoony and Hugh Crain's ghost more scary. The hand coming out of a door, the voices etc. they were funny, yes, not even SPOOKY! I thought the giant lion carvings on the fireplace were the most scary, but also most beautiful parts of the interior, and more scary than Crain's huge painting. As I already said in my previous review: a sequel of this movie shouldn't contain actors of flesh and blood; no way: they should use Hill House itself. The outside, the inside, everything. Because thàt does deserve an Oscar. Have you heard me you Hillbillies in Hollywood???

10/10 for Hill House 2/10 for the acting

A 7/10 for the whole thing.

The Net (I) (1995)
Very realistic and splendid adventure starring Sandra Bullock
29 September 2001
I saw 'The Net' only yesterday, but I believe I've actually seen it before. All I could think of was: please let this not happen to ME! Because, dear readers, this movie is so realistic you can not help to get anxious every time you go online. With intense action from beginning 'till end and sudden changes in the life of Angela Bennett ( an outstanding performance by Sandra Bullock )'The Net' will keep you seated. Nobody wants to miss the end, nobody's going to think: yeah, right, this is a bit overdone. I really recommend this one to people who's life is controlled by their job and computer geniuses ( do they still exist??? ).

Overall score: 9/10

Invisible Child (1999 TV Movie)
Weird but good
28 September 2001
I must admit that "Invisible Child" is a weird movie. It's about a family in LA, they live in a beautiful house and are very happy. Except for the mother,Annie Beeman (Rita Wilson) because she has imagined a third child, Maggie, who is five years old at the beginning of the movie. The father, Tim Beeman (Victor Garber) supports her, along with the others two kids, ten year old Rebecca ( nicknamed Doc ), who does know her sister isn't real and four year old Sam who doesn't know that. Anyhow, they hire a nanny, she's English and she is very confused when she learns what's going on in this household. This nanny (Tushka Bergen) tries to solve the problems the Beemans have been facing for so long, but is a long road to go...

As I already said: some parts are weird because you can't figure out who's faking and who's not, but please remember: this is an AMERICAN movie -- they usually have a happy ending. My advice to you is to tape this movie if you get the chance!

This belongs in the list of most romantic movies of the century!
21 September 2001
Warning: Spoilers
"Sleepless in Seattle" is a classic, though ( only ) eight years old. No matter how old the public is, you'll ALWAYS enjoy what you're seeing. Now there are not that many movies who can do such a powerful thing. Most of them end up in a closet, with dust all over them. I watched this movie on a very rainy day, and although the sky outside was black, the warmth of Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan's love somehow lightened up my day. Good work from Rita Wilson and Victor Garber, anybody remembers the dinner scene somewhere in the middle of the movie?

******************SPOILER*************

When Sam says he's dating again, his son Jonah replies.

Jonah:"Victoria!"

Suzy:"You don't like her?"

Jonah:"She laughs like a hyena!"

And a bit later, first Suzy cries like being hysterical when talking about "An Affair to Remember" and then the two men ( Greg and Sam ) start crying too when discussing another movie, what a stupid but yet very touching moment. Bill Pullman made a big fool outta himself: what a weird guy, that Walter! He's just letting his fiancé run off with some other guy ( but he does make a better partner, that's Sam I mean, I think ), what a joke!!!

8/10

Deserves a special place in the list of most romantic movies of the century!!!

Calm down,ladies, it's just a MOVIE!
14 September 2001
Oh why do they make these, these THINGS they call movies? The First Wives Club is no MOVIE it's almost an epic story of how three women can get really hysterical about losing their husbands, I mean, seeing their husbands finding a younger version of themselves and then leaving them behind.

Who'd you think they chose to play the leading roles??? Goldie Hawn is marvelous as the drink-a-lot actress who was married to Bill Atchison ( Victor Garber, TITANIC), a producer who left her for a sixteen year old blond doll who can hardly act. Bette Midler kicks ass as Brenda, former wife of Morty ( Dan Hedaya, ALIEN:RESURRECTION ), who runs a big store in NYC, and there's Diane Keaton as Annie, who has to find out that her husband actually has a secret relation with their therapist ( oh what a shock! ) and then goes nuts.

The movie is filled with hysterical women shouting and screaming, hell ( forgive me my foul language ) this could have been subtitled 'Scream 4 ' but there are some things I like about 'The First Wives Club': as a person who spends a lot of her time trying to watch all of Victor Garber's movies, I thought he was just great as Bill. And there's probably the music, songs are verrrry important, this music is well chosen that is, but where's 'Respect' from Aretha Franklin? That's somehow the keyword for 'The First Wives Club'. Don't expect too much of it, sorry, but see it anyway, if you liked Titanic, you'll like this one too, ehrm, that is because of Vic Garber, I guess. And well, there's also the Lamborghini Diablo...

Let's say 7/10 is a nice score

Screen Two: The Snapper (1993)
Season 9, Episode 10
And after you've seen this picture, you're on your way to Dublin...
14 September 2001
Because one needn't think TWICE to figure out this is not just a movie. It's 90 minutes of pure Irish humor, and good publicity for Dublin. If you like Colm Meaney, settle down and watch 'The Snapper'. But this is such a good movie you can go on inventing reasons to see it. The Snapper deserves respect and cheers for it's one-liners, the sweet Irish accent and the location. Dublin rulesssssss! Roddy Doyle's books must be hilarious, I don't know but the movies sure are FANTASTIC!!!

Give it 9/10!

It's raining Oscars... soon!
1 September 2001
I bet 'Bridget Jones' Diary' will get one or more Oscars. Renée Zellweger was brilliant as Bridget, Colin Firth made me laugh and Hugh Grant probably acted the way he always acts... fan-tas-tic. Good music and a lot of humour and above all: the ending! Really, you ought to see this movie NOW, 'cause it will bring you the story of a 'normal' woman facing thé problem of her life: finding the right man. Will she succeed? That is - of course - up to you to find out. Let me end by saying: 10/10! Greatest thing I saw on the BIG screen this year.

Titanic (1997)
Blub,blub,blub...
26 August 2001
Warning: Spoilers
There are only a few things that keep 'Titanic' afloat. First fact: excellent cast ( mind you: I'm not one of those Leonardo DiCaprio-freaks! ) with excellent performances. Second fact: nice ship... Third ( and last ) fact: beautiful music from James Horner.

The huge number of goofs for 'Titanic' is famous but also annoying. My best friend came over to watch this movie ( she had seen it twice but said a third time can't hurt a person ) and started spotting 'mistakes' every two seconds. I was surprised to find out she was right, after having a close look ( my face nearly touched the TV-screen ). Most movies James Cameron made - Terminator 2, Aliens,... - are spectacular and such, but ALL of them have LOTS of goofs. Seems that 'Titanic' has broken a new record! If you insist on knowing what exactly went wrong, go to the goofs section. Small details, I know, but don't tell me it's not annoying when you are watching.

I hope that telling you that 'Titanic' is filled with goofs isn't regarded as a SPOILER, because anyone knows it, even if you didn't see Titanic. So why watch it? Well, it features the most known and biggest boat of the twentieth century, it's unfortunate maiden voyage, a profile of some of the many passengers, and probably the most beautiful soundtrack I've ever heard in my entire life. I'd say a 8/10 should be enough.

Failed attempt to take over Earth but NOT to entertain the viewers!
26 August 2001
WARNING!!! THIS SYNOPSIS COULD CONTAIN A S*P*O*I*L*E*R!!!

Most sci-fi movies end like this: aliens invade our peaceful planet, try to wipe us of the surface but are blown up by some unknown guy who then gets all the name and fame he (didn't) deserve(s). Trow in cool fx and a story that makes sense ( mmm, I'm not so sure about thàt... ) so you can entertain the audience. This is 'Independence Day' in a nutshell. Great actors are: Will Smith, Bill Pullman and Jeff Goldblum. They may have failed to take over Earth, but they have succeeded in giving us a movie worth the watching!

Jumanji (1995)
Oh waw this is what Twister should be like!
13 August 2001
Remember Twister? Well, this movie has probably got the same amount of special effects BUT is much more fun to watch. Let me explain. It has got a story to tell. Twister was only about twisters. Anyway, 'Jumanji' hasn't only got yummy fx, but also a verrrry good cast. Robin Williams ( 26 year old Alan Parrish ), Jonathan Hyde ( Sam Parrish/ Van Pelt ) and Bonnie Hunt ( Sarah Whittle in 1995 ) are the best members of the cast. From the moment the fun starts ( I mean, when they start playing the game ) it never ends. To be honest, the animals in this movie were almost real and I sometimes check my closet before I go to bed. You never know what could be in there...

Here's what I think: the special effects deserve 10/10, the cast gets 9/10 so I think the movie must get 9,5/10. Now go and find 'Jumanji'!

Richie Rich (1994)
What the bloody hell???
13 August 2001
Hold on, this is a movie for kids. So why expect so much of it? Maybe the plot was ok, but Macauly Culkin was a very bad choice. He was indeed hilarious in Home Alone and Home Alone 2, but THIS???

This movie seems a bit too childish to be 'good'. It didn't need special effects, and if there were any, I didn't notice them. Gosh, I think I'm going to give 'Richie Rich' a 8/10. That's 1 point for the movie and 7 points for Jonathan Hyde ( Cadbury ) who was the only one I actually enjoyed. A good advice for you movie-addicts and normal people out there: please find Home Alone (2) or pop in Jumanji once more so that ( if you saw Richie Rich, of course ) you can forget this horrible experience!!!

Too bad about the title -- but the rest is more than OK!
8 June 2001
Let me start by saying: way to go Hugh Grant and Colm Meaney! Without those two names, this movie wouldn't have drawn my attention as it did now. It's a nice piece of comedy, situated in a small village somewhere in the South of Wales. I've laughed a lot, certainly because of Colm Meaney's hilarious Welsh accent. Never thought an Irishman could talk like that. I think that 4weddings&afuneral wasn't half that good as this movie. I mean, Hugh Grant's astounding performance, even though he didn't really steal the show -- I'll leave that part for another person. Anyway, if you've got NOTHING to do, get this movie for it will CHANGE your life. Oh well, if it doesn't I still made you watch it, something you sure won't regret.

Oh my god -- it's the best thing I ever saw (or isn't it?)
4 June 2001
Usually, a sequel isn't half the way it's predecessor was. But in this case, I dare not say that that statement is true. The Mummy Returns really took my breath away. The first Mummy was a successful thing, but who'd know that the second movie could turn out to be even better?

Just take a look at the special effects. I don't believe I can recall a scène where there's not a single thing that hasn't been created with a computer. It's all so perfect, and that's of course what makes a movie worth the watching. Quiet at times and extremely loud when it gets really tough, the music has it's own way of creating that icy, chilling sphere that surrounds every movement our beloved hero Rick O'Connell ( Brendan Fraser ) makes. The sudden events and the dazzling fighting sequences are splendid. And now, instead of one really bad guy, they have to defeat two dangerous Egyptian first-class bandits. With a little help of their Arabian friends this might work.

The actors have done a great job. Nice work, especially from Rachel Weisz and John Hannah.

No need to explain why I think The Mummy Returns deserves 9.5/10!
