Donald Trump‘s daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, co-chair of the Republican National Committee (RNC), has recently unveiled a new song that has been met with scathing criticism – even from many of her own social media followers.
Last year, Lara showcased her musical aspirations with a widely mocked cover of Tom Petty‘s iconic hit, “I Won’t Back Down.” Her latest track, titled “Anything is Possible,” now faces similar derision from internet critics.
The song itself is intended as an inspirational ballad and features lyrics such as “Don’t think, just jump / You can’t give up / Know that anything is possible.”
Numerous X users among Lara’s have not held back in their scrutiny. “‘Anything’ isn’t possible,” quipped one user. “Even auto-tune couldn’t salvage your karaoke-like voice. Just leave us alone and walk away. You have the means to travel anywhere on a private plane with your wealth.

For Adrianne Lenker, love is meant to be a familial undertaking: she’s less interested in its early volatility, the thrills and frills, fantastical projections. She stated it clearly on “Anything,” a track from her 2020 album Songs, when she sang, “I don’t wanna be the owner of your fantasy/I just wanna be a part of your family.” For nearly everyone, our first experience of intimacy and love comes from our family units –“We look at the world once, in childhood. The rest is memory,” poet Louise Glück wrote...

The following article contains major spoilers for "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse."
"Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse" took us back into the multiverse, starting with Gwen Stacy (Hailee Steinfeld) visiting Miles Morales (Shameik Moore) in the Brooklyn of Earth-1610. She then takes him to the Spider-Society, where Spider-Beings from all over the multiverse converge and help each other out.
Over the course of the film, Miles finds out that he wasn't ever supposed to be Spider-Man and, because of that, the universe of Earth-42 doesn't have one. Wha's more, he ends up having to evade the Spider-Beings who want to stop him from preventing a "canon event," as in something that must happen to create our web-slinging superheroes. As a result, Miles eventually makes his way to Earth-42, a place where his uncle Aaron (Mahershala Ali) is still alive, his dad is dead, and another version of Miles (Jharrel Jerome) has become...

Movie soundtracks can elevate ordinary stories, adding depth and resonance to beloved films. The lasting impact of these soundtracks is evident in the instantly recognizable songs that continue to endure. Sometimes, the music becomes a movie’s highlight, compensating for weaker storylines or characters.
Classic movie musicals like West Side Story have stood the test of time, while films like The Bodyguard provided a platform for legendary artists to showcase their talents. The longevity of these soundtracks is often measured by their chart performance, reflecting their profound influence on generations.
The intertwining of music and cinema is a magical combination. The closing notes of The Breakfast Club, the era-defining mix of Dazed and Confused, and the genius of Prince in Purple Rain are just a few examples of the powerful synergy between sound and vision.

Pretend it was one year ago, when the streaming revolution, stoked by the pandemic (when is a pandemic good for business? When your business depends on people staying home), was feeling the first flush of being the New Paradigm That Ate The World. And pretend, in that spring of 2021, that you’d been asked to imagine how a film industry headline from the future might read. You would probably have predicted something like this: “For the First Time, Every Oscar Nominee Comes From a Streaming Service.” Or maybe this: “Movie Theaters: Still Here But No Longer Driving the Action.”
You probably would not have come up with something like this: “Netflix Buys Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s ‘Bardo,’ Plans Global Theatrical Release.”
But that’s the headline that ran on April 27 in Variety. Netflix has bestowed token theatrical runs before — to “The Irishman,” “Roma,” and “The Power of the Dog.” But...

And just like that, HBO on Monday transported us to The Gilded Age, another series starring Cynthia Nixon in which New York essentially plays a character all its own.
But this is a very different New York than the one inhabited by Miranda Hobbes. As the show’s title suggests, this is the New York of 1882, where no one is meeting at brunch to wax poetic about their sex lives. Heck, brunch won’t even become popular in America for another 50 years. As for the sex, don’t hold your breath. Even married couples post up in separate bedrooms at the end of the night.

Exclusive: On the heels of the success of A Quiet Place Part II, Amazon has partnered with that film’s producer Brad Fuller, picking up Welcome to the Neighborhood, written by Ross Lazar & Sebastian Shepard with Justin Dyck directing. Fuller’s Fully Formed is producing.
Plot details are being kept under wraps, but prior to the package being picked up by Amazon, sources say execs on the project were impressed with Dyck’s presentation of what this contained thriller could look like; it eventually landed him the job.
Dyck’s Anything for Jackson, which was shot for less than $250,000, premiered at Fantasia Fest last fall and was released on Shudder to critical acclaim (the film currently sits at 98% on Rotten Tomatoes). Although it was Dyck’s first genre film, he honed his skills directing dozens of Canadian Christmas films and rom-coms.
For Lazar and Shepard, this marks their first major sale to a studio.

The late American indie film auteur Monte Hellman was fond of a quote from Jean Cocteau that poetically summed up the fate of any real work of art: “A work of art should also be ‘an object difficult to pick up.’ It must protect itself from vulgar pawing, which tarnishes and disfigures it. It should be made of such a shape that people don’t know which way to hold it, which embarrasses and irritates the critics, incites them to be rude, but keeps it fresh. The less it’s understood, the slower it opens its petals, the later it will fade.”
Cocteau’s dictum certainly applies to Hellman’s 1971 film, “Two-Lane Blacktop.” It opened its petals 50 years ago today and still confounds not only the critics but its fans and friends, including the film’s unit publicist Beverly Walker, whose groundbreaking campaign for the film included getting Esquire magazine...

Big Thief’s Adrianne Lenker performed her solo track “Anything” on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert Tuesday, January 26th.
The clip finds Lenker performing outdoors, sun radiating in the background as she finger-picks her way through the track. 2020, to say the least, has been a complete shitshow. The year has been weird, long, depressing, anger-inducing, and frustrating. But that dumpster fire has made the shiny parts shine bright in a way that made all the crap disappear for a few moments or hours at a time. And for that, I am grateful.
In a year that showed us that time actually has no meaning whatsoever, I know I’m not remembering half of the stuff that I watched and loved, but here are just some of the things that gave me joy, comfort, awe, or just some time away from what has become “the norm.”
Gretel & Hansel
The films of Osgood Perkins are so totally my jam. Gretel & Hansel is no exception. His fantastically creepy and twisted take on the story of two children getting lost in the woods is also a decidedly feminist piece that puts a...

There are few singer-songwriters who can claim a more prolific peak creative period than Adrianne Lenker’s past five years. Since 2016, she’s helmed four albums with her band Big Thief as well as several solo outings, including her informatively-titled recent twin releases Songs and Instrumentals. Like Neil Young in the mid-early Seventies, each one of Lenker’s personal peaks, be it 2017’s tour de force Capacity, or 2019’s ethereal U.F.O.F., turns out to be yet another stepping stone towards something revelatory.

“Zombie Girl” follows the singles “Dragon Eyes” and “Anything” and 2018’s Abysskiss. The records were pressed on analog-analog-analog (Aaa), are completely digital-free,...

Jerry Seinfeld has no hard feelings for the “putz” Manhattan comedy club co-owner who declared a coronavirus-ravaged New York City “dead forever.”
“I have nothing against that guy,” Seinfeld tells CBS’ 60 Minutes this week about Stand Up N.Y. comedy club co-owner James Altucher, who wrote the R.I.P New York article on LinkedIn two months ago. “He’s fine. I didn’t like that nobody was rebutting it, and I realized, ‘Oh, I guess that’s my job.’ Somebody – a real New Yorker – has to answer this.”
In the August column headlined NYC Is Dead Forever: Here’s Why, Altucher wrote that his Upper West Side comedy club had been staging outdoor shows but saw a dwindling chance that the venue could reopen profitably in the wake of the city’s Covid-19 shutdown. “Broadway is closed until at least the Spring,” he wrote. “Lincoln Center is closed.

The obsession with the order of things is a theme that is probably familiar to most people, since there always seems to be at least one individual in every extended family circle who throws a fit every time something has changed place. Arghavan Heydareslam explores this theme in her debut short, through a rather unusual approach.

Leila, a mother whose husband seems to only appear in the meticulously cleaned and placed pictures in the house, is having some friends over. Her preparation for their visit is impeccable, with the house being squeaky clean, and the cake and beverages being prepared in an almost ritualistic fashion. Alas, one of her friends has brought her child-son with her, and his presence threatens to ruin the delicate balance Leila has worked so hard to maintain. Eventually, when she goes to the kitchen, while her daughter...

"I don't know a lot of things, but I know what it means to love someone..." Paladin has released an official trailer for an indie drama titled Anything, from writer/director Timothy McNeil. Anything is a story about the infinite possibility of love. Matt Bomer plans a transgender woman who meets a middle-aged man who moved to Los Angeles after his wife's death, played by John Carroll Lynch. They strike up a relationship, and together experience the turbulence and challenges that come with falling for each other. The film's cast includes Maura Tierney, Margot Bingham, Michael Boatman, and Tanner Buchanan. This looks like a compelling, modern look at the complexities of romance, putting a trans relationship front and center. It's particularly impressive to see how talented Bomer really is. Take a look and let us know your thoughts. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Timothy McNeil's Anything, direct from...

Though Mark Ruffalo and the Powers That Be have quietly played down the notion of a standalone Hulk movie (it’s a pipe dream, apparently), Marvel is rustling up the next best thing: a three-film arc that begins with the launch of Thor: Ragnarok in November.
Indeed, Ruffalo’s Jade Giant is set to feature quite prominently in the imminent threequel, which is hardly surprising when you consider that Ragnarok was originally pitched as a buddy cop movie largely set in space – Sakaar, to be specific, which will play host to the fight of the century in three weeks’ time.
Looking further afield, and it’s understood that three-film arc will begin to unfold across Infinity War and its untitled sequel, Avengers 4, which will seemingly deliver a fitting conclusion to Marvel’s Phase 3 come 2019. But when it comes to Hulk’s next steps, Screen Rant recently caught up with Kevin Feige...

Just in time for Pride month, and following the swift outcry provoked by a clip of Matt Bomer’s cringeworthy performance in “Anything,” GLAAD and ScreenCrush have released an impassioned plea from many successful transgender actors to stop casting cisgender actors in their roles. The video is part of ScreenCrush’s month-long Pride series about transgender visibility in film and television.

The video stars an impressive array of Hollywood’s most recognizable trans actors: Alexandra Billings (“Transparent”), D’Lo (“Sense8”), Elliot Fletcher (“The Fosters”), Alexandra Grey (“Transparent”), Ian Harvie (“Transparent”), Jazzmun (“When We Rise”), Trace Lysette (“Transparent”), Jen Richards (“Her Story”), and Rain Valdez (“Lopez”). Richards, a co-creator of the Emmy-nominated short form series “Her Story,” penned the script.
Maybe now, people will know where to look the next time they need to cast a trans character.

When it was announced that Matt Bomer would be playing a transgender woman in Anything, tempers in the Lgbt community flared. Jared Leto, Eddie Redmayne and other cisgender actors have been there, done that, people said; it's time for trans actresses, often confined to sassy supporting parts, to be given their shot. Moreover, casting men in these roles feeds a broader misconception that trans women are just dudes playing dress-up — and that line of thinking can lead to discriminatory measures like North Carolina's "bathroom bill."

One of the jobs that the general public doesn’t pay that much attention to — but probably should — is that of the cinematographer. If you think a film looks gorgeous and you’re able to get swept away by what you’re seeing on the screen, that’s all thanks to this man or woman’s work behind the scenes. Turns out, though, you can even see these folks showcase their talent on social media.
Since the role of cinematographer is often referred to as the director of photography — shortened to Dp or Dop — it only makes sense that we hone in Instagram as that’s one popular online platform dedicated specifically to photos.
