David Cross has joined the cast of the upcoming third season of “Genius” at Nat Geo, which will focus on music legend Aretha Franklin.
Cross will star as music producer Jerry Wexler. Cynthia Erivo is set to play Franklin, with Courtney B. Vance, Malcolm Barrett, Patrice Covington, Kimberly Hébert Gregory, Rebecca Naomi Jones, and Sanai Victoria also set to star in the eight-episode season.
Cross’ Wexler is described as a scrappy, Bronx-born legendary producer who is one of the first to spot Franklin’s incredible talent and potential. He’s a street savvy music man with great ears who isn’t afraid to go into segregated clubs to find talented performers like Ray Charles and Wilson Pickett. He even coined the term “rhythm and blues.” He poached Franklin from Columbia to Atlantic Records and works with her from 1966-79 during which time she records some of her most iconic hits.

Torun, Poland – Adam Bajerski, the award-winning cinematographer behind Marcin Krzysztalowicz’s 1950s Warsaw drama “Pan T.” (“Mister T.”), is re-teaming with longtime collaborator Andrzej Jakimowski for his next project.
The film, “Goat Mountain,” is likely to shoot next year on the Spanish island of Lanzarote. It follows a Polish photographer who moves to the Canary island after inheriting property there.
Bajerski began his career with Jakimowski and has shot all of the director’s feature films, including his 2002 feature debut “Squint Your Eyes,” 2012’s “Imagine” and 2017’s “Once Upon a Time in November.” The two were part of the group of filmmakers that in 2002 founded the Warsaw-based film production company ZAiR (a Polish acronym that stands for Associated Artists and Artisans).
While he’s hoping to shoot “Goat Mountain” on 35mm film, Bajerski shot his latest feature, “Mister T.,” digitally. Set in 1953 Poland, the black-and-white film follows a renowned writer...

Swedish singer Chris Klafford grew up in a small town listening to rock music like Kiss, which helped put him on a path to eventually audition for “America’s Got Talent.” During Tuesday’s final audition episode, Chris wowed judges Simon Cowell, Julianne Hough, Gabrielle Union and Howie Mandel with his heartfelt and truly original rendition of John Lennon‘s “Imagine” — a performance that’s already gone viral. Following his soft rock cover, all four panelists gave Chris enthusiastic “yes” votes, which means he’ll next be seen in the Judge Cuts round. There’s a moment in “Yesterday” that is, frankly, amazing. It’s more amazing than its already bonkers premise in which no one remembers The Beatles — or that they aren’t the only thing that has been accidentally erased from memory. Or even that Ed Sheeran, at one point, compares himself to the 17th-18th century composer, Antonio Salieri, after hearing “The Long and Winding Road” for the first time.
No, it’s a moment in the movie that, if you’re a Beatles fan, raises more questions than it answers. Granted, this is a goofy romantic comedy and jukebox musical that shouldn’t necessarily be picked apart and scrutinized. But there’s something in the way this moment moves that strikes me like no other, and it’s worth taking a moment to talk about it.

In a prolific career that has yielded numerous iconic movies, Ron Howard is set to direct his first animated film.
The project is one of four ambitious, original animated and live-action hybrid films he and Brian Grazer have set up through their company Imagine Entertainment, in a joint venture with Australian production engine Animal Logic.
Howard is attached to direct “The Shrinking of Treehorn,” a children’s book by Florence Parry Heide with illustrations from Edward Gorey, originally published in 1971. Paramount Pictures will release the film.
“I’ve long had this passionate point of view that Ron Howard should make a tentpole animated movie. That’s how this started,” said Zareh Nalbandian, Animal Logic’s entertainment CEO.
“It was serendipitous that Imagine was sort of evolving and growing, and Animal Logic was more and more committed to the development and production of our own intellectual property. We have a shared...

Joan Baez played the final New York City concert of her 60-year career last night to a capacity audience at New York’s Beacon Theater. It was an emotional evening that touched on many of the key songs in her history, including “The House of the Rising Sun,” “No More Auction Blocks,” “Imagine” and four Bob Dylan covers. It ended, appropriately enough, with “Dink’s Song (Fare Thee Well)” and a last bow as some in the audience openly sobbed. She wraps up the American leg of her farewell tour...

Ariana Grande brought all sorts of magic and power to the stage during her debut TV performance of "Imagine" on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. The 25-year-old singer not only helped the host re-create an iconic Saturday Night Live skit during her Dec. 18 visit but also blew us away (once again) with her vocal talents. Joined by The Roots, Grande brought the romantic track from her new album to life for the audience, complete with several impossibly high whistle tones. The. woman. can. sing!
It's rumored that "Imagine" is a tribute to Grande's ex-boyfriend Mac Miller, who died of an accidental overdose in September. While Grande has described her previous track "Thank U, Next" as "self-assured" and "commanding," this latest song draws heavily from vulnerability, an emotion you can definitely recognize in her powerful performance. Watch the video above to hear her unbelievable range for yourself.

The Roots are one of the most versatile bands on the planet, and when Ariana Grande brought her new single “Imagine” to “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” Tuesday night, they brought out the song’s inherent soulfulness in inimitable fashion. Toward the end of the track, Grande shows off her range with some sky-scraping, Mariah-esque vocal vamps at the end.
Earlier in the show, she bopped along with Fallon, Horatio Sanz, Chris Kattan and Tracy Morgan for a cover of “I Wish It Was Christmas Today,” which Sanz and Fallon inexplicably sang (terribly) while Grande smiled silently.
Grande has described “Imagine” as a “a simple, beautiful love that is now (and forever) unattainable,” although fans were quick to point out references to her late boyfriend, rapper Mac Miller, in that he had a tattoo that said “Imagine” and there are allusions to some of his lyrics in the song.

Is Ariana Grande's new song "Imagine" about the late Mac Miller? At midnight, the 25-year-old singer released her latest track off her upcoming album, Thank U, Next. After listening to the lyrics, many fans are convinced the song is about Grande's ex, Miller, who passed away in September at the age of 26. Miller and Grande dated for about two years before their split was announced in May. Earlier this week, Grande described "Imagine" to her fans on Twitter, explaining that it's like "pretending" a relationship "never ended" and being in "denial." While she didn't call out one specific relationship, there are a few references to Miller in the song. ...

A new feature documentary will use unseen archive and access to material from John Lennon’s estate to relay the untold story behind his classic song “Imagine,” and the album of the same name.
“John & Yoko: Above Us Only Sky” has been commissioned by U.K. broadcaster Channel 4 and will air later this year. Producers Eagle Rock have secured previously unheard audio including the first demo of “Imagine,” as well as never-heard-before interviews with one-time Beatle Lennon. Other voices in the documentary include David Bailey, the photographer who famously captured the couple in a 1971 photograph that ended up on the cover of Vogue. John’s eldest son, Julian, is also part of the film.

The Rock Company gave one of the best performances so far on “World of Dance” season two. At least, that’s what the judges thought. They performed at the end of “The Qualifiers 6,” and they needed an average score of 80 or above from the judges to advance to the next round, the single-elimination “Duels.” Suffice it to say they achieved that total and then some, and when we polled our readers about the latest round of performances, it was a landslide: The Rock Company were by far the class of the field.
