Plot: A psychiatrist becomes obsessed with one of her young clients with multiple personalities.
Review: There have been few horror films more anticipated this year than Joe Lynch’s Suitable Flesh. The buzz coming out of various festivals has made this sound like a blood-soaked, sex-crazed, good time. Then add Barbara Crampton and writer Dennis Paoli returning to the world of Lovecraftian Horror, and my excitement was off the charts. I loved the setup of the film, using Lovecraft to help bring a new flavor to the possession/body swap formula. There are namedrops like Miskatonic University and even Cthulu, so it casts a wide net for Lovecraft fans.
If you don’t consider yourself up to date on all things H.P. Lovecraft, don’t worry, there’s plenty here to grasp onto. Because whether it’s Freaky or Freaky Friday , the body swap genre has many different approaches to take.

Over the years, Ryan Kwanten has endeared himself to genre fans with his work on True Blood, or on films like Dead Silence, Knights of Badassdom, and Red Hill (which is a highly underappreciated revenge-fueled thriller that this writer dug). And for his latest project, the anthological Facebook Watch series Sacred Lies: The Singing Bones, Kwanten portrays Peter Wolfe, a man who abandoned his young daughter some 13 years prior, and struggles to come to terms with who he is and the things that he’s done.
Daily Dead recently had the opportunity to speak with Kwanten, and he discussed the True Blood connection to Sacred Lies by way of Raelle Tucker, the showrunner for the Blumhouse Television series, and how her involvement was one of the biggest reasons he wanted to get involved with the 10-episode second season of Sacred Lies. Kwanten also chatted about his approach to his character,...

Point Blank
Stars: Anthony Mackie, Frank Grillo, Marcia Gay Harden, Stuart F. Wilson, Buster Reeves, Christian Cooke, Teyonah Parris, Boris McGiver, Reggie Willis, Shanessa Sweeney, Nik Pajic, Markice Moore | Written by Adam G. Simon | Directed by Joe Lynch
Point Blank, directed by Joe Lynch, is a remake of Fred Cavayé’s À bout portant, which was originally released in 2010. The film stars two actors from the Marvel Cinematic Universe: Frank Grillo and Anthony Mackie as Abe and Paul, respectively. Paul has to break Abe out of custody in a hospital as his brother has taken Paul’s pregnant wife hostage. What commences is an unorthodox buddy-action comedy, in what is sadly yet another dull and tedious action-adventure.
It is hard to watch Point Blank and not debate why this was made, or even distributed by Netflix. Everything from its plot, actors and actress, or even filmmaking evokes a sense of direct-to-dvd nature.

Netflix has released trailer for a gritty new action-packed thriller called Point Blank and it stars Marvel actors Anthony Mackie and Frank Grillo. The movie is a remake of the 2010 French thriller of the same name.
Mackie plays a character named Paul, an ER nurse whose pregnant wife is kidnapped. In order to save her and his unborn child, he must team up with a badly injured career criminal and murder suspect (Grillo), who is under his charge and help him escape. Along the way they are “pitted against rival gangs and a deadly ring of corrupt cops, the unlikely duo find a way to survive together in the fight of their lives.”
The film comes from director Joe Lynch (Knights of Badassdom) and it looks like it’ll be a great and entertaining flick! The movie also stars Marcia Gay Harden, Christian Cooke, Teyonah Parris, Boris McGiver, and Ming Wang.

Netflix actioner Point Blank, a remake of 2010 French film, teams Marvel movie stars Anthony Mackie and Frank Grillo.
Point Blank, an upcoming Netflix movie, will showcase the onscreen, high-impact buddy-actioner team-up of Avenger Falcon and unscrupulous assassin Crossbones – well, the actors who played them in the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies, anyway, Anthony Mackie and Frank Grillo.
The film is a remake of the 2010 film of the same name (À Bout Portant), touting the novel idea that its protagonist – in the case of the American remake, an ER nurse (Mackie) – is not some untouchable badass slayer of hapless goons, but just an ordinary person who’s thrust into some deadly circumstances when on the run, joined by an injured murder suspect (Grillo).

MaryAnn’s quick take… A peanut-butter-in-my-chocolate movie, this Die Hard meets Twister monster is so ludicrous it comes all the way back around to being awesome and hilarious. I’m “biast” (pro): nothing

T he Hurricane Heist! It’s Twister meets Die Hard! And even though, through some negative Hollywood magic, the end result is much less than the sum of its parts, those parts are such perfect films that, even mashed up into something greatly diminished, that end result is still pretty good. Or, rather, so bad it’s good. That’s positive Hollywood magic! Why are some bad movies just plain bad, and other bad movies somehow awesome and hilarious? It’s a mystery.

I've got a crazy-ass trailer for a balls-to-the-walls action film called Mayhem that is just insanely brutal! The movie is described in one of the reviews as a being like The Office meets The Purge. This is a pretty hardcore trailer that doesn't seem to hold back on the violence. You've got blood splatting all over the place!
As far as the story goes, it centers around an office building full of people being exposed to a deadly virus that causes the infected people to lose their inhibitions and go crazy. The kind of crazy that makes them want to kill each other. It also follows a recently fired employee played by Steven Yeun (The Walking Dead) and a wronged client who have to fight their way through the madness. It looks like an incredibly entertaining flick worth watching, especially if you're into bloody violent movies.

Bring down the whole damn house! Indie filmmaker Joe Lynch's (Everly, Knights of Badassdom) new film is another violent, deranged, totally crazy, totally fun film titled Mayhem. The title, which is a bit vague, doesn't have much to do with the plot - which is actually about a guy who works at a sleazy legal corporation that decides to take on the executives when a virus causes everyone to go crazy. I saw this film at 1Am with a crowd of horror fans at the Sitges Film Festival, which is the perfect time and place to see this kind of film, because they cheered at all the right moments. If you watch this one at home, it just won't hit as hard, but it's still a thoroughly entertaining horror action comedy mashup with a worthwhile message at the end of it. The concept for Mayhem is fairly simple, enriched with some fun characters.

Throughout his career, filmmaker Joe Lynch has given us fantastic movies that have spanned both the horror and action genres, including Wrong Turn 2, the "Zom-b-Movie" segment of Chillerama, Knights of Badassdom, Everly, and his latest movie, Mayhem, which recently enjoyed its world premiere at the 2017 SXSW Film Festival.
Written by Matias Caruso, Mayhem follows a corporate attorney named Derek (Steven Yeun), who's trapped inside his office building with hundreds of fellow employees during a viral outbreak that causes the infected to be unable to control their primal urges. Chaos ensues as the co-workers begin to wage war against each other the longer the virus rages on.
Daily Dead had the chance to speak with Lynch after the first SXSW screening of Mayhem in Austin, and he chatted about the trepidation he felt going into the film’s world premiere, the journey to getting Mayhem made, working with Yeun, and more.

"You are witnessing history today." XLrator Media has debuted a trailer for an indie action movie titled Kill Ratio, which looks like another formulaic action flick. The plot involves an American covert operative who becomes the one man who can save an entire country when a "ruthless military leader" attempts a coup. Tom Hopper (from "Black Sails", "Merlin" and Knights of Badassdom) stars, with Lacy Moore, Amy Huberman, Nick Dunning, Conor Hegarty, Brian McGuinness and Michelle Lehane. This looks particularly cheesy, especially considering it's another action movie that takes place inside of one building. The sword fight at the end nearly made me roll my eyes. I have not read the source material
(what is this about? see my critic’s minifesto)
The projector kept choking, at the press screening of The Diary of a Teenage Girl I attended. For a long stretch during the middle of the film, every few minutes it would sputter and skip and then just go black. It was a little annoying, of course, and a bit of a mood killer, naturally, but mostly it was kind of amusing. I found myself thinking: Even this machine has been trained to think that any depiction of raw, bawdy female sexual desire is dangerous, and cannot be allowed,...

Salma Hayek endures multiple degradations as an escaping sex slave in Joe Lynch’s self-conscious video nasty
If you thought the Tarantino/Rodriguez Grindhouse project was a bore, prepare to have your trash buttons ground down further still by this slice of self-conscious schlocksploitation. Salma Hayek is the battered sex slave who must slice and dice her way through an array of stereotypically sadistic Japanese villains (one is actually called “the Sadist”) in order to save her daughter from a fate worse than appearing in the sequel. Hayek gamely puts herself through the mincer as Knights of Badassdom director Joe Lynch splatters the screen with yucky gore and sub-torture-porn sleaze. Those with an adolescent nostalgia for video-nasty era degradation/retribution may be mildly titillated, but Lynch has neither the wit nor desire to raise this above the level of faux-retro fanboy fantasy.

Director: Joe Lynch; Screenwriter: Yale Hannon; Starring: Salma Hayek, Hiroyuki Watanabe, Laura Cepeda, Togo Igawa; Running time: 92 mins; Certificate: 18
Maybe it was because Salma Hayek made a compelling badass in Oliver Stone's Savages that she signed up for the bullet-riddled, entirely brain-free splatter-fest that is Everly. But she doesn't get to wear a suit here and strut with intent. Instead, director Joe Lynch strips her from scene one, makes her crawl on the floor, ties her up, cages her and generally makes her the subject of every sordid violent fantasy he can think of. And, for what? Even slobbering Salma fans might come away feeling frustrated at the lack of an x-rated payoff.
Quentin Tarantino is the obvious standard-bearer for Lynch, who has previously directed B-movie shorts and one feature dubiously titled Knights of Badassdom (straight-to-video), but whereas Qt lavishes as much attention on characterisation as bloodletting, Lynch doesn't see the need.

I’m pretty much going to watch any film called “Knights of Badassdom”. I just am, and probably if you are reading this, you would too. I’m absolutely astounded at how the social stereotypes are melding together little by little, and this film is definitely a testament to that. Remember being the weird kid and only having a handful of equally weird, but loyal friends. That definitely was me, and I couldn’t see it then, but I pretty much had it made. Do you have nightmares about Bill Lumbergh telling you to put new cover sheets on your Tps reports? For some, the corporate cubicle setting is as horrifying as the creepy boiler rooms that Freddy Krueger haunts in the A Nightmare on Elm Street movies. Script excerpts and storyboards for an imagined tenth film in the Elm Street franchise show Freddy tormenting a coma patient by placing him in a mind-numbing office environment where meaningless meetings, tear-inducing small talk, and countless hours of hellish tasks reign supreme, with no escape in sight. Also included in our latest round-up are Blu-ray / DVD release details and cover art for the Salma Hayek-starring Everly and information on the 20 recently announced Star Wars books that will take place in the time period between Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi and Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens.

Larping (or Live Action Role Playing) is subcultural phenomenon that is continuing to gain notoriety. For some it is a way of life, while for others they are not sure what language the word Larping originates from. Larping has had some cinematic spotlight in the past including the documentary Darkon and probably most infamously in the Paul Rudd & Seann William Scott comedy Role Models. However, director Joe Lynch takes his film Knights of Badassdom in an entirely different direction.
Knights of Badassdom asks the question of what happens when you take real life pretend fantasy and add true demonic forces. Based on the premise and cast the potential is rich with uniqueness. This could easily be in the same vein as films like Evil Dead, Cabin in the Woods,...

Don’t ever underestimate the lethalness of a well-armed woman.
In “Everyly,” Salma Hayek plays a woman who is defending herself in her apartment upon waves of assassins sent by her ex, a mob boss.
The movie is directed by Joe Lynch (“Knights of Badassdom,” “Wrong Turn 2: Dead End”).
In an exclusive phone interview, Latino-Review caught up with Hayek’s co-star, Jennifer Blanc-Biehn, to discuss about this shoot’em up action movie. She talked about Hayek, Lynch and the preparation involved in the film.
“Everyly” is currently available on iTunes and is in limited theater release at certain cities.
Latino-Review: You have a movie coming up called “Everly.” Could you tell my on why you were attracted to that film?
Jennifer Blanc-Biehn: First of all, Joe Lynch was directing it. He’s a fantastic director and an all-around good guy. So I was very interested on what he was doing.

Joe Lynch has directed a number of films over the past eight years, including Wrong Turn 2: Dead End, Knights of Badassdom, and the “Zom-b-Movie” segment of 2011’s Chillerama anthology, but I’ve never felt like we’ve seen a film that was truly 100% his voice. That all changes, though, with Everly, his gut-punch love letter to the modern action film, a raucous and wickedly fun time that manages to be way more heartfelt and emotionally-charged than its over-the-top brutality and balls-out gunplay might otherwise suggest. It’s been a while since we’ve seen a truly badass female hero get her cinematic due, but everything about Lynch’s latest gets it just right.
In Everly, we meet the titular prostitute (Salma Hayek) on Christmas Eve right after she’s been subjected to a brutal gang-rape orchestrated by a Yakuza mob boss who isn’t thrilled with her recent betrayal of him and his organization.

For his latest film, Joe Lynch kicks things into overdrive with Everly, starring Salma Hayek as the titular character forced to fight off waves of assassins and psychotic hitmen sent by her former lover, a cruel mob boss, who wants her dead after learning she is no longer loyal to him.

Salma Hayek goes full blown "The Raid" in "Everly," and that's pretty much the only hook this movie needs. Whether or not that's your particular cup of tea, that's up to you, but the folks behind this flick have finally dropped the domestic trailer, which has lots of guns, action, and, oh yeah, Hayek. Joe Lynch ("Knights Of Badassdom") writes and directs this one about a yakuza prostitute who has been working as an informant for the cops. Her employers find out, are unsurprisingly none too pleased, and send an army of bad guys to take her out. But never underestimate a woman with a will to live and underwear sturdy enough to hold a decently sized arsenal of weapons. If you're looking for a "Die Hard"-esque piece of fun, this should fit the bill, especially since the current "Die Hard" movies just aren't worth your time. "Everly" arrives...

Salma Hayek is armed with guns, her wit, and barely anything else in the first trailer for the action-flick Everly.
Hayek stars as the titular Everly who holds her own against a tidal wave of deadly assassins that her ex-boyfriend has sent to take her out. Think your ex is bad? Everly’s ex just happens to be a pretty tough mob boss. But’s she’s a pretty tough woman with a plan as she prepares to battle it out, holed up in her apartment fortress, where the entire events of the film transpire.
The kick-ass action movie comes to us from Joe Lynch, the man behind cult favourite Knights of Badassdom, who, along with his star, promised to deliver a strong character and lots of grenades when the duo appeared atComic-Con last summer.

Since Liam Neeson didn't really do much in the vein of quality ass-kicking earlier this month, maybe Salma Hayek has what it takes to step up to the plate with the action thriller Everly. In the film, Hayek plays a woman who faces down assassins sent by her ex, who also just happens to be a mob boss, while holed up in her apartment. In this first Us trailer, it feels like The Raid meets Kill Bill, with plenty of action to go around. Frankly, I'm just excited to see an actress like Hayek in this role instead of a leading man. This could open up some new doors for the actress if it turns out to be a hit, which we hope it will be. Watch! Scarlett Johansson did for Lucy. Keanu Reeves did it for John Wick. Now it's Salma Hayek''s turn to become an absolute bad ass, with Joe Lynch's (Knights of Badassdom) balls to the wall action movie Everly, which sees Hayek going up a sadistic mob boss and his seemingly unending army of assassins. The trailer below promises something pretty insane, filled with some pretty big and fun moments (the torrent of blood flowing from the elevator door is an especially nice touch). Check it out below. Her early forays into the work of mid-90s Robert Rodriguez movies put Salma Hayek firmly on the Hollywood map. From her capable and fiery sidekick in Desperado right through to her voluptuous blood-sucking hell fiend in From Dusk Till Dawn, her inner badass has been teased for the best part of twenty years. Always relegated to the supporting roles previously, the actress now steps up to the plate to commandeer her own actioner in Joe Lynch’s Everly.
Lynch’s prior exploit - Knights Of Badassdom – failed to incur the warm reception it desired, but by the looks of it, the filmmaker isn’t dwelling on the past. In his upcoming revenge flick, Hayek plays hooker-turned-badass, Everly. Going up against her wiseguy boss by ratting him out to the police, he soon sets a price on her head that everyone in town is keen to snag. Everly’s fight...

Salma Hayek says “Yippee-ki-yay” to Japanese mobsters and hired killers in the international trailer for Everly, director Joe Lynch’s ode to Asian cinema and the action classic Die Hard. The Oscar nominee stars as a Yakuza prostitute-turned-informant who must find her inner John McClane and fend off assassins before she can whisk her young daughter away to a new life. Liam Neeson rebranded himself as an action hero with Taken and Scarlett Johansson did it this summer with Lucy. After recent turns in Here Comes The Boom and Grown Ups 2, can Everly do the same for Hayek?

"I know I'm gonna die tonight." If Liam Neeson can revamp his career as an aging action star, then why can't Salma Hayek do the same? Of course, the actress is only 48 years old, which makes her 14 years younger than Neeson, but you don't normally see actresses going all out like this at her age. But that's what makes this first international trailer for Everly from director Joe Lynch so damn cool. Well, there's also some killer action sequences all set within the confines of a single apartment, so that's a big selling point. At the very least, this looks purely entertaining, like Kill Bill meets The Raid, so count me in. Watch below! Here's the international trailer for Joe Lynch's Everly from YouTube: Everly is directed by Joe Lynch (Knights of Badassdom) and written by first-time scribe Yale Hannon. Netflix streaming is upping the ante this December, adding enough high-profile TV shows and movies to more than make up for last month's lackluster offerings.
On the movie side, highlights include Will Ferrell and gang in "Anchorman 2," the Heath Ledger-starring "A Knight's Tale," Cameron Crowe classic "Almost Famous," Oscar-winning "American Beauty," and horror hits "Oculus" and "Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones." Oh, and let's not forget '80s classic "Troop Beverly Hills," '90s cult favorite "Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion," or Leonardo DiCaprio in "The Wolf of Wall Street."
And there's plenty to love about what's coming on the TV front: "American Horror Story: Coven" finally gets its day on Netflix, "Sharknado 2" storms its way to streaming, and Brit hit "Broadchurch" finally lands stateside. Oh, and December sees the premiere of the hotly anticipated Netflix Original series "Marco Polo" on the 12th.

In the newly released poster for Insurgent, we see a brave, stoic Shailene Woodley standing on top of a cube-shaped building which is on fire. It's also floating in mid-air through the middle of a post-apocalyptic cityscape, but that's beside the point.
.
While admittedly the poster is a bit surreal and a tad confusing (although, a lot is explained by Insurgent's teaser trailer… sort of), what really seems to set the tone is the blazing inferno raging beneath Woodley's feet, pouring out of the windows.
It's almost as if the poster designers were worried that the strange image of a warrior woman on a floating building wouldn't be eye-catching enough. However, like sex and the color red, fire is used all the time by poster designers for a whole multitude of reasons – and with an equally large variety of insane results.
