“The Tree” appears on Morris’ latest release, The Bridge, a two-song EP which she explained expresses “a very righteously angry and liberating phase” of her life as she steps away from the toxic “family tree” of country music. Speaking about her complicated relationship with the genre in a Los Angeles Times interview that debuted around the time of the EP’s release, she explained: “I thought I’d like to burn it to the ground and start over. But it’s burning itself down without my help.”

Maren Morris stopped by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Tuesday to perform “The Tree” with fellow artists Mickey Guyton and Brittney Spencer. The single is one of two new tracks from her EP The Bridge.
“Do you feel that?/Heart letting go of the weight it’s been holding,” sings Morris for the chorus, bolstered by Guyton and Spencer. “I’ve made miracles in the shadows/But now that I’m out in the sun, I’ll never stop growing, wherever I’m going/Hope I’m not the only one.

Singer-songwriter Maren Morris, 33, just released two new songs, “The Tree” and “Get the Hell Out of Here,” on Friday – and announced that she will be moving on from the country music industry.
In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, Morris explained that she feels the need to explore a new genre and will release future music on Columbia Records, as opposed to her old record label, Columbia Nashville.
The Grammy winner said before that she plans to take a step back for a little while, as she’s felt “very, very distanced” from the industry and its politics as of late.
“I thought I’d like to burn it to the ground and start over,” she said. “But it’s burning itself down without my help.”
Of her experience in the country music industry, Morris said, “I’ve always been an asker of questions and a status quo challenger just by being a woman.

On her newly released The Bridge EP, Maren Morris sought to liberate herself from the toxic aspects of country music. In a follow-up interview with the Los Angeles Times, she further elaborated on her decision leave the genre, explaining that, “I thought I’d like to burn it to the ground and start over. But it’s burning itself down without my help.”

Maren Morris says somewhat reluctantly leaving country music as she grapples with how the industry she grew up in can not only feel “like indoctrination” but has evolved following Donald Trump’s presidency.
Morris’ last year has seen her calling out conservative elements of the country music genre, garnering her a few headlines amid high-profile clashes. That includes her criticisms of singer Jason Aldean and his wife Brittany Kerr, whose position on gender-affirming care Morris addressed onstage and on social media (which was then covered by former Fox News host Tucker Carlson).
Morris’ latest video for “The Tree” seemingly addresses Aldean’s video for “Try That in a Small Town” — praised by some as pro-Trump and condemned by others as an anti-Black, pro-lynching anthem that glorifies gun violence — through her own references to things like sundown towns and conservative refrains like “Go woke, go broke.”

Maren Morris is “taking an axe to the tree” that is rotting at the root — a metaphor in her new song “The Tree” about country music’s deep-rooted issues to grow with the times.
The singer, 33, dubs her new two-track EP The Bridge — released today — one of numerous metaphors she uses to imagine a path out of the country music industry, which made her a star.
“I thought I’d like to burn it to the ground and start over. But it’s burning itself down without my help.”
On “The Tree”, Morris sings, “I’m done filling a cup with a hole in the bottom”; while “Get the Hell Out of Here” begins with the lyrics, “Watered the garden but forgot to fill the well/ I fed all my good intentions while I starved myself.”

Maren Morris is back with the EP The Bridge, which features two new songs called “The Tree” and “Get the Hell Out of Here.” The tracks were produced by Greg Kurstin and Jack Antonoff, respectively. Listen to both below.
Morris is known for being one of the few modern day country artists willing to potentially alienate their audience in order to speak out for what they believe in; in recent years, she’s beefed with Jason Aldean and Tucker Carlson for (checks notes) not being bigoted. The Bridge taps into those feelings of isolation, but ultimately finds the singer-songwriter comfortable in her place as a Nashville outsider.
“The Bridge; a connecting, transitional, or intermediate route or phase between two adjacent conditions,” Marris said in a statement. “These two songs are incredibly key to my next step because they express a very righteously angry and liberating phase of my life these...

Maren Morris is burning The Bridge. The songwriter’s new two-track EP — featuring the songs “The Tree” and “Get the Hell out of Here” — seems, metaphorically, to reflect her growing exasperation with the country music industry in Nashville.

Netflix’s “One Piece” has a colorful, vibrant cast filled newcomers like Iñaki Godoy, who plays as Monkey D. Luffy, and some more seasoned actors like Vincent Regan, who plays Vice Admiral Garp. Netflix put in the work (seven years to be exact) to craft its live adaption of the bestselling manga series.
When “One Piece” creator Eiichiro Oda first saw Godoy, he knew that was his Luffy. Each of the cast members have created their own connection to their characters, and some loved and grew up watching them on screen as children.
Longtime anime fan Emily Rudd, who plays Nami, described her character as a member of the Staw Hats who sevves “like an older sister surrounded by a group of young brothers.” Mackenyu, who is Japanese, grew up idolizing his character Roronoa Zoro. He was so committed to his character that he even pierced his ears for the show,...

The much-decorated Japanese drama “Drive My Car” was named the best film Sunday at the Asian Film Awards, defeating hot favorite “Decision to Leave.”
Other notable awards went to Japan’s Hirokazu Kore-eda whose “Broker” debuted at Cannes, but which was largely shunned in his home country.
“Decision to Leave,” which started the evening with ten nominations, was nevertheless rewarded with three awards, best screenplay, best production design and best actress for China’s Tang Wei.
While nominations were geographically diverse, the awards on Sunday skewed heavily towards North East Asia –Japan, Korea and Greater China – to the total exclusion of films from India, Indonesia and The Philippines. Snubs included the exclusion of Indonesia’s “Autobiography” and Happy Salma, both of which have been widely lauded on the festival circuit.
The awards ceremony returned to Hong Kong after detours to Macau and Busan and a Covid hiatus in previous years.

It's a new day on Kepler-22b, which means it's time for even more mind-boggling and terrifying things to happen on "Raised by Wolves"! In last week's episode, "The Tree," the series' biblical themes started coming together, with a cursed Tree of Life, a human sacrifice in exchange for knowledge, and of course, the serpent. Mother (Amanda Collin) and Father (Abubakar Salim) have been antagonizing one another all season, but last week made it appear like they're finally headed for a real blowout over Mother's seventh child and Father's "science experiment." Marcus (Travis Fimmel) figured out the origin of the Tree after he ate of its fruit, and now he...

In a culture whose past has been subject to change due to political ideologies or leaders exploiting it for their benefit, or because of colonialism, it is important to keep track of what really has happened. Most of the time, the records may still be intact, making the process of righting the wrongs easier, but as the process of falsification or bending of the past continues you may find yourself in a tough spot when looking for the truth. In her short essay film “The Sun and The Looking Glass – For One Easily Forgets But The Tree Remembers” artist Miléna Desse contemplates on the concepts of time and memory on the background of a past which consists of stories transmitted through generations. The result, which was also part of an online exhibition last year, is an intriguing and quite fascinating portrayal of the past of a certain place, in this...

“The Masked Singer” episode on December 4 featured four celebrities disguised as a Butterfly, Fox, Thingamajig and Tree. Each of them sang for votes from the studio audience and was determined not to end up in the bottom two. That meant a sudden death sing-off with the four judges determining who would be eliminated.
Of the four famous folk competing in week 8, the biggest surprise has been the Tree. She first appeared on the premiere when she stole the show with her version of the Panic! at the Disco hit “High Hopes.” She returned in week 5 and earned roars of approval for her cover of the Aretha Franklin classic “Think.” And in week 7, she showed her range with her rendition of the Meghan Trainor tune “No Excuses.”

“The Masked Singer” returns tonight after a week off with an episode called “Clash of the Masks.” But in TheWrap’s sneak-peek clip from Wednesday’s installment, it’s actually the panelists who are butting heads.
In the clip above, which is exclusive to TheWrap, Ken Jeong and his pal Joel McHale, who returns this week as a guest judge for Fox’s oddball singing competition, strongly (and playfully) disagree over the identity of The Tree. While Jeong thinks it has to be “My Big Fat Greek Wedding” star Nia Vardalos, McHale is pulling for “Will & Grace” star Megan Mullally.
Host Nick Cannon thinks McHale has the better guess here, leading Jeong to tease Cannon for being “short.”

McHale then tells his fellow “Community” alum that he shouldn’t keep calling people short if he’s shorter.

“The Masked Singer” on Fox is must-see-tv this falls because of its fascinating concept: stars wearing elaborate costumes sing songs in the hope of winning over the judging panel and studio audience in order that they can stay in the competition. On the first episode of season 2, eight celebrities sang in pairs and six of them made the cut. The two sent home were the Egg (Olympic figure skater Johnny Weir) and the Ice Cream (professional gamer and YouTube star Tyler “Ninja” Blevins.)
Among the half dozen contestants to make the cut was the Tree. She soared on the song “High Hopes” by Panic! At the Disco. The four judges were wowed by both her vocals and her dance moves. The Tree returned to the show on episode 5, which finally aired on November 6 after being delayed by the World Series.

“The Masked Singer” finally returns with new episodes tonight. Yes, episodes, because after two weeks off due to the World Series, the network decided to give fans a double dose of its oddball singing competition this week. TheWrap has an exclusive clip from the two-hour block, featuring the Black Widow who, according to panelist Ken Jeong, has the best “crouch game” he’s ever seen.
In the video above, you’ll get a better idea of what he’s talking about, as he tells the black-and-red arachnid that her voice “makes people stand up the more you crouch down.” Jeong takes that compliment further by telling the masked celeb she crouches better than all the other contestants who have competed on both the show’s first and second season, which is pretty high praise.

“The Masked Singer,” a.k.a. world’s weirdest singing competition, returns to Fox tonight and TheWrap has an exclusive sneak peek from the two-hour Season 2 premiere featuring everyone’s new favorite contestant: The Egg.
In the clip above, which is exclusive to TheWrap, Ken Jeong makes his prediction as to the identity of the glittery, Faberge-style masked contestant, following the guesses of fellow panelists Jenny McCarthy, Robin Thicke and Nicole Scherzinger. And it seems no one agrees with Ken’s pick.
“I think that you’re, like, a television personality or some sort of host that has an amazing charisma and stage presence about you,” Jeong says to Egg, who is standing beside host Nick Cannon. “I think it’s someone from ‘Queer Eye,’ but I think it’s Jonathan Van Ness.”
