"Harry is spent. The crowd is destroying its throats calling Harry's name. Harry feels right with himself. He's down there, a new God who has found his calling. He holds up the Snitch and bellows 'I am a beautiful animal! I am a destroyer of worlds! I am Harry f***ing Potter!' And, dear reader, at last, the world was quiet."
The above passage comes from "Wizard People, Dear Reader," an unauthorized, parodic "book on tape" version of the movie "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone," written and performed by comedian Brad Neely. The passage comes at the end of a match of Quidditch (which Neely mistakenly called Cribbage), a sport in Harry Potter's wizarding world that is, essentially, a midair version of rugby, played while riding flying broomsticks. Neely exaggerates the epic moment from "Sorcerer's Stone," of course, but in 2001, when Chris Columbus' film first came out, audiences...

The Harper House is closing its doors.
Paramount+ has canceled the animated comedy after one season. It comes a week after the ten episode show, which premiered on September 16, wrapped up its season on November 4.
Creator Brad Neely broke the news on social media, “The Harper House is cancelled. I’ll always appreciate the show’s resilient crew and cast that came together during an unprecedented breakdown of normal life to make this family with me. I’m grateful to everyone involved and to anyone who gave it a shot. It’s time to get nuts.”
The adult animated comedy centers on Debbie Harper (Rhea Seehorn), the overconfident female head of a household, who struggles to regain a higher status for herself and for her family of oddballs, after losing her job and moving from the rich side to the poor side of a small town in Arkansas. If you've seen Brad Neely's Harg Nallin Sclopio Peepio on Adult Swim, you know this is about to be bizarre. Let me just state right now that his comedy is about as fringe as fringe gets. You'll see what I mean with this narration of Harry Potter And The Chamber Of Secrets. The point of this is to watch the film on mute while listening to Neely commentate on the film as if he were narrating an audiobook. It's weird, but it's also kind of hilarious. Check it out below and if you're interested in the full set of "Wizard People, Dear Reader," check it out here. ...

Andy Warhol famously predicted that in the future, everyone would be famous for 15 minutes. In the case of Vine, however, that formula was often reduced to six seconds. The video-sharing app’s popularity, however, lasted just a little bit longer.
Twitter announced today that it is shutting down the service, which the social-media giant bought in 2012. Vine gave users a platform to share six seconds of video that would play on an automatic loop. It quickly became a destination for comedians, musicians, artists, and filmmakers, many of whom pushed the app’s video capabilities to creative heights. Others used it more like a condensed YouTube channel, posting condensed comedy sketches for a generation reared on short attention spans. More popular users gained millions of followers and launched careers steeped in lucrative marketing deals. But once Twitter and Facebook began offering their own video-sharing capabilities, Vine struggled to find a broader user base.

“Take my wife…please,” goes the classic joke by Borscht Belt comedian Henny Youngman. In their new Seeso show, “Take My Wife,” stand-up comedians and real-life married couple Cameron Esposito and Rhea Butcher have given Youngman’s joke a 21st century twist, adapting it into a cheeky title befitting comedy’s newest gem.
“Take My Wife” is the story of Cameron and Rhea, playing fictionalized versions of themselves, two lady-identified comics who date each other. The series begins with their wedding night, then cuts to six months earlier, when Rhea is working a graphic design job she hates and Cameron is fielding podcast questions about what it’s like to be a woman in comedy. In May 2007, Rob Corddry was out of a job for the first time in years. He had just left a plum correspondent role on “The Daily Show With Jon Stewart,” to headline Seth MacFarlane’s first live action comedy, “The Winner.” But that sitcom was cancelled after six episodes. Then, the television writer’s strike hit.
“I had nothing to do and no money and a baby,” Corddry told IndieWire. “Luckily, we were allowed to do Internet stuff during the strike.”
That led Corddry to create “Childrens Hospital,” the absurdist hospital drama satire that began as a web series on the now-defunct TheWB.com in 2008. Adult Swim then picked it up, and “Childrens Hospital” ran for seven seasons and 86 episodes before wrapping up in April.

Films on the other hand are few and far between, in fact Friday - once a film haven in Hall H - has given way completely to TV panels.
The highlights this year are obviously on Saturday in Hall H with Warners doing their panel in the morning which will likely include looks at "Wonder Woman," "The Lego Batman Movie," "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" and if we're lucky sneak peeks from "Kong: Skull Island" and "Justice League". If you read this article and still can’t remember the title of “Brad Neely’s Harg Nallin’ Sclopio Peepio,” that’s fine. “It’s intentionally meaningless,” said creator Brad Neely, speaking to IndieWire by phone last week, “which is a lot harder than you would imagine.”
Nonsense seems to be a strong suit for Neely, whose animated sketch show premieres on Adult Swim July 10. The first 10-minute episode made waves when it premiered on Vine last week, a first for the short-form video app, which typically hosts six-second videos. (Vine recently expanded its maximum time-limit to 140 seconds, but Neely’s show is the app’s first full-length video.) “Brad Neely’s Harg Nallin’ Sclopio Peepio” consists of short sketches that bear no relation to the previous one, but they’re all just wacky enough to appeal to Vine’s Adhd-addled viewers.

Brad Neely, the creator of the animated series China, Il, has a new show coming to Adult Swim called Harg Nallin Sclopio Peepio. In order to promote Neely’s incredibly-titled work, Adult Swim took to Vine, where it took advantage of the Twitter-owned platform’s recent expansion past its signature six-second format by posting the entire first episode of Harg Nallin Sclopio Peepio.
Viewers who head over to Adult Swim’s Vine page will find a short clip from Harg Nallin. Should they click a “Watch More” button in the loop’s bottom-right corner, they will load up a wider video player that shows the animated sketch show’s full 10-minute premiere.

Most iPhone and android users know Vine as the social media app where you watch and make six-second videos that run on a consistent loop, but what if the app could host longer video content and become a platform for distribution? That’s certainly the question on Adult Swim’s mind as they make history today by using Vine to premiere an entire episode of their upcoming animated comedy series, “Brad Neely’s Harg Nallin’ Sclopio Peepio.” Earlier this month, Vine announced it was letting select users test a 140-second video, but Adult Swim has put up a full 10-minute episode on the app.

Some really cool news has come out of the Cartoon Network camp today. Variety announced that Cartoon Network's Adult Swim has some pretty awesome plans to ensure that their current, future, and past fan bases will all be entertained. One of the steps they are taking is to bring us new episodes of Samurai Jack. Earlier this year, Adult Swim announced the series revival would be coming, but this solidifies their plans, and there are a ton of other new announcements that Cn has revealed:

Turner announced that Adult Swim is expanding its original programming, picking up three series for its upcoming fall slate, including Brad Neely's animated sketch comedy show TV Sucks, joining his other show, China, Il. They're also ordering an as-yet untitled live-action show starring Adam Scott and Jon Daly as pro golfers and a live-action comedy by Jon Glaser (whom you might know best as Councilman Jamm on Parks and Recreation) called Neon Joe, Werewolf Hunter (the title should be self-explanatory: Joe wears neon and hunts werewolves). There will also be special episodes with Robot Chicken DC Comics Special III: Friendship Is Magic, Brett Gelman's Dinner With Friends, and Tim & Eric's Bedtime Stories. They'll be joining a schedule that already includes Rick and Morty, The Eric Andre Show, Childrens Hospital, Black Jesus, and what will be the final season of Aquateen Hunger Force.

There was a certain point in history, somewhere between The Simpsons and Daria, when TV animation ceased to be the sole provenance of kids drooling over their morning bowls of Lucky Charms. These days, cartoons for grown-ups are not only ubiquitous, but hilariously twisted and high-quality to boot — and that's due in large part to a phenomenon called Adult Swim. What began as a freaky little block of late-night programming has evolved into a vast, even-freakier universe of animated and live-action series with a sardonic, absurdist sense of humor that's...

Adult Swim's China, Il is an online success story, having started out as a web series created by Brad Neely before moving to TV. The show centers on a wide variety of characters created and voiced by Neely, including The Professor Brothers and Baby Cakes, and takes place at what's deemed the "Worst College in America." Other stars include Hulk Hogan as the school's dean, Jeffrey Tambor as Professor Cakes and Dave Coulier as Ronald Reagan. Adult Swim's "China, Il" is getting bigger and better in Season 2. The show is being bumped up from 11-minute episodes to 22-minute ones, and is having more room to play around with its main cast of characters this time around.
The show focuses on characters who either work at or attend the worst college in America, located in the fictitious China, Il. Created by Brad Neely and executive produced by Daniel Weidenfeld, the show capitalizes on Adult Swim's distinct brand of animated comedy. Zap2it was recently invited to visit "China, Il's" animation studio, Titmouse, Inc., in Los Angeles to see where the series' magic happens.

Adult Swim's China, Il finally returns for its second season this Sunday night at 11:30 p.m. Et. During the year-and-a-half layoff, creator Brad Neely concocted 50-odd (and just plain odd) songs with silly lyrics like "I just get so crazy playing with kitty cats," and he also kept his characters just how the show's obsessive fan base likes them: weird. In this exclusive clip, matriculating man-child Mark "Baby" Cakes presents a bold proposal for a meaty, saucy energy bar that he appropriately dubs Meaty Saucy Energy Bar-ys, and offers up a few ideas for fun and probably racist flavor assortments. Yum!

With Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 about to hit screens and Part 2 in theaters next year, now would be a good time to look into Potter fandom’s Golden Age. Luckily, filmmaker Josh Koury captured the mania and the craziness in his entertaining documentary We Are Wizards, which is embedded in full above. The film specifically focuses on the multimedia aspect of fans’ engagement with the source material and with each other, particularly the music subculture called Wizard Rock. Warning: If you’re planning to watch this documentary with your kids — or if you are a kid — interview subject Brad Neely, unfortunately, colors his language with lots of expletives.
Although the documentary doesn’t get into the history of fandom in general, Harry Potter-inspired Wizard Rock isn’t an all too unusual expression of fan love. Star Trek has its fans dressing up like Klingons and singing drinking songs.

So you've read Harry Potter. You've seen the movies. How can you get your next fix? Try free-on-Hulu doc We Are WIzards. What's wonderful about Josh Koury's flick is that it shows off some of the boundless creativity that Harry Potter has inspired, whether it's 'wizard rock' as embodied by grandfathers of the genre Harry and the Potters and kid-band The Hungarian Horntails, or cartoonist Brad Neely's spoof Wizard People, Dear Reader, a terrifically funny alternative soundtrack to the first film. The flick is nicely shot and a little all over the place; bopping around from the wise words of Leaky Cauldron webmistress Melissa Anelli (who is the author of a book on Harry Potter fan culture, Harry: A History), to a fundamentalist woman fed up with Potter's witchcraft, there's no throughline there, and you'd be remiss to think that wizard rock is simply the provenance of boys...

Does Harry Potter draw children to the dark side of life, to "something that will ultimately destroy society"? Or does it inspire them to start "Wizard Rock" bands at the age of seven? Maybe it does both -- and more! With Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince rolling into theaters at midnight, it's a good time to check out Josh Koury's doc We Are Wizards which examines the Potter phenomenon (in part). It's available for free online viewing, courtesy of our friends at SnagFilms, and you can watch it right here at Cinematical.

Brad Neely is the face of comedy in the internet age. His deadpan sense of humor and penchant for beefy irony spurred the creation of the legendary festival-short-gone-viral “Cox & Combes’ Washington,” which led to a contract with Adult Swim for a passel of similar online mini-cartoons. He also worked as a consultant for the second half of Season 11 of South Park, runs the comedy website Creased Comics, and is currently shopping some ideas around for a television show of his own.
