We begin in a quiet house, after the joyous occasion of a baby’s baptism. An innocuous question—why is one of the house’s beams so withered and small?—leads to the unraveling of a dark story involving unjust cruelty, desperate choices, and satanic vengeance. Many fantastical stories of the 18th and 19th centuries feature such plot devices, but none of them reach the viscerally horrific heights of Jeremias Gotthelf’s The Black Spider.
This titular character is the villain of a moral nightmare, written by an actual pastor in the mid 19th century. His story starts in a medieval village, overseen by a cruel landlord who makes an impossible demand of his tenants: to uproot a distant grove of trees and replant them near his castle. Driven to desperation, they encounter a seeming savior in the form of a green-clad woodsman. He promises to complete their task for them,...

You never could trust that Ron Weasley to stick around. Harry Potter's best friend was known to get jealous and even walk out when the going got tough ... but then he did always come back in the end. J.K. Rowling's novels closed with Ron and Hermione Granger married with two kids, but actor Rupert Grint doesn't think they would still be together today.
While at Universal Orlando for the recent Harry Potter celebration, Grint and fellow castmates talked to Huffington Post about the future of their characters.
Here's the Ron section:
Huffington Post: If J.K. asked you where you'd like your character to be off to, what would you say? Swing for the fences, or go as crazy as you'd like with what you'd be doing in that universe.
Grint: [laughs] I would expect Ron has probably divorced Hermione already. I don't think that relationship would have done very well.

The two were joined by Harry Potter co-stars Matthew Lewis, Katie Leung, and Evanna Lynch, all of whom are probably doing so much better now that they aren't constantly afraid of an evil wizard hell-bent on destroying their world.

Harry Potter film stars just gathered for a fan event at Universal Studios Orlando, and the result was magical. That may sound cheesy, but check out Matthew Lewis's dastardly new facial hair and pretend Hot Neville With a Mustache doesn't charm the dress robes off you.
Matthew Lewis and Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley) held a live fan Q&A on Facebook, as part of the event (watch the video below). Rupert also reunited with his on-screen sister, Bonnie Wright (Ginny Weasley), and she shared a photo; she also posted a pic with a pic with Katie Leung (Cho Chang) and Evanna Lynch (Luna Lovegood).
While at the three-day Celebration of Harry Potter event, Rupert told People his kiss with Emma Watson (Hermione Granger) was more awkward than magical, saying he never looks back on their big kiss scene and "one take was enough" to film the "huge moment."

Harry Potter fans are going to really wish they were at the Universal Orlando Resort right about now. As the theme park hosted their third annual Harry Potter celebration this weekend, a few familiar castmembers decided to stop by and reminisce about the unforgettable franchise. Along the way, a brother-sister duo reunited that will have fans feeling more than a little nostalgic. "Family time," Bonnie Wright wrote on Instagram Sunday afternoon after hanging out at Islands of Adventure with her on-screen brother Rupert Grint. "#stillnoredheademoji" Earlier on in the weekend, the pair would join Matthew Lewis (Neville Longbottom), Katie Leung (Cho Chang) and Evanna Lynch (Luna Lovegood) for a...

Together, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger are one of literature's most magical love stories. But off-screen, the actors who portrayed them had grown up together throughout the duration of the eight Harry Potter films - and not surprisingly, that made their much-anticipated kissing scene a little awkward. "I never look back at that scene," Rupert Grint, who played Ron opposite Emma Watson's Hermione, told People on Friday at Universal Orlando's three-day Celebration of Harry Potter event. "I've known Emma since she was literally 9 years old and we had this very brother-sister relationship," explained the English actor, 27, whose new film Moonwalkers was released this month.

The Ripper Street series 4 opening two-parter is ambitious, confident, and very much back in business...
This review contains spoilers.
4.1 The Stranger's Home
In Ripper Street’s finale last series, we were left with our heroes scattered and in quite an array of situations. For Matthew Macfadyen’s Edmund Reid, it was something of a happy one, recovered from his near fatal gunshot wounds and reunited with his daughter to carve out a life together by the sea. Drake (Jerome Flynn) was left in charge of H Division with Jackson (Adam Rothenberg) still in his employ. Susan (MyAnna Buring) languished in Newgate Prison, awaiting her death sentence, due to be carried out after the birth and nursing of her son.
It’s now 1897, a big year for both the history of Great Britain and culturally speaking too. It’s the year of Dracula, Oscar Wilde’s release from prison and,...

It’s been a rough January 2016 so far and the hits just keep coming. This morning it was announced Alan Rickman has died. Social media immediately lit up with fans from “Harry Potter” to “Galaxy Quest” to “Die Hard” and beyond mourning the passing of one of Hollywood’s greatest actors and movie villains. But for those who knew Rickman — either personally of professionally — the acknowledgement of his passing and grief over his loss was particularly poignant. J.K. Rowling There are no words to express how shocked and devastated I am to hear of Alan Rickman's death. He was a magnificent actor & a wonderful man. — J.K. Rowling (@jk_rowling) January 14, 2016 Matthew Lewis I was at Leavesden Studios today when I heard the news. As I walked through the canteen I thought of Alan queuing up for his lunch with us mere mortals. I recalled the trailer in which he...

The magical world of Harry Potter has room for more than one Hermione Granger. So far, officially, we have at least three: The Hermione of J.K. Rowling's novels; Emma Watson of the film series; and now Noma Dumezweni of the sequel play, "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child."
The casting of a black actress as Hermione got the Internet in a tizzy, but Rowling gave her blessing and actor Matthew Lewis (Neville Longbottom) tweeted in defense, "And Neville Longbottom was blonde. I really don't care. Good luck to her."
Emma Watson initially just retweeted that reaction from Matthew Lewis, but on January 2 she added her own enthusiastic support:
Can't wait to see Noma Dumezweni as Hermione on stage this year. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ #harrypotterandthecursedchild #2016
— Emma Watson (@EmWatson) January 2, 2016
Emma is usually too busy calling attention to serious world issues to tweet that many hearts about anything, so it shows her strong level of commitment.

Some of the cast of the the upcoming "Harry Potter" play -- which will depict Harry's life 19 years after the end of the last book (and the life of his son, Albus) -- has been announced, and not everyone is happy. Not because the actor who will play Ron Weasley, Paul Thornley, isn't ginger, but because the actor who will play Hermione, Noma Dumezweni, is black. Because Hermione was played by a white person in the movies (and depicted as white on a few of the book covers), some people can't handle the thought of her being portrayed by a black person. But J.K. Rowling herself has now weighed in, saying she never explictly wrote Hermione as any race: Canon: brown eyes, frizzy hair and very clever. White skin was never specified. Rowling loves black Hermione ???? https://t.co/5fKX4InjTH — J.K. Rowling (@jk_rowling) December 21, 2015 And Matthew Lewis, who...

The Julia Roberts rom-com classic My Best Friend's Wedding is getting the old TV reboot. THR reports that ABC is developing an adaptation with the movie's original writer and producer: Ron Bass is writing the script with Jessica Amento, and Jerry Zucker will serve as executive producer alongside Janet Zucker and Mike Menchel. The show will take place right after the film's titular wedding, following a bruised Julianne Potter (played by Julia, duh) as she returns to New York with her gay best friend George (played by Rupert Everett). We're already casting young Julia Robertses and Rupert Everetts in our heads — Karen Gillan and Matthew Lewis, get your agents on the phone.

Ripper Street is coming back for a fourth and fifth series, which came as a surprise to star MyAnna Buring.
Buring told Digital Spy that she expected the grisly period thriller's third run - out now on DVD and Blu-ray - to be its last.
"I thought that would be the end," she admitted. "I think with Ripper Street, you always think it might be the end - so people will be grateful when there's more! It's like a little treat."
It's certainly a far cry from where the show found itself in 2013 - cancelled after two series, seemingly never to return.
"I think there was a general sense of what arc all the characters would take [across the three series], and where they would end up," Buring said.
"That's why it was such a shock for everyone after series two, because the arcs that had originally been planned were potentially never going to reach their conclusion.

Jk Rowling's new Harry Potter play The Cursed Child is so big, it's being split into two parts.
The production is due to open at the end of summer 2016 at the Palace Theatre in London, but the author explained that it needs to be broken up due to "the epic nature of the story".

Everything you need to know about Harry Potter and the Cursed Child
There's been no information about how the play will be split - with Rowling keeping the plot firmly under wraps - but the project's director John Tiffany spoke to Pottermore about the decision.
"I've never worked on anything quite like this before," the Olivier Award winner said. "Usually in theatre you're adapting existing material or creating an entirely new play.

Leave it to J.K. Rowling to come up with the best way to wish Tom Felton a happy birthday. Tom, who played Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter series, turned 28 on Tuesday, and the author took to Twitter to share a sweet message. She tweeted, "Happy birthday to .@TomFelton, the nicest bad guy ever xxx." Of course, this isn't the first time the Harry Potter family has exchanged sweet social media shout-outs. Earlier this year, J.K. Rowling had a hilarious response to Matthew Lewis's shirtless spread, and he followed it up with a heartfelt, thoughtful birthday message for the author, thanking her for changing his life. Check out J.K. Rowling's best moments with the cast, and then see the ultimate Harry Potter bucket list!
