"The War of the Rohirrim" is one of our most anticipated movies of the year here at /Film. For me personally, ever since the prospect of a "Lord of the Rings" anime was announced, it's been the most exciting project set in Middle-earth, and it's not even close. When the very first early footage was shown at the 2023 Annecy Film Festival, it only made this project more exciting. Now, dear reader, I have seen about 20 minutes of the film, which is not quite done, but getting close to that point, and it left me as addicted to wanting to see more as Gollum is addicted to the One Ring.
This year's Annecy presentation started with a short video introduction by Peter Jackson, who, together with Fran Walsh, are back to executive produce the project. Jackson expressed his admiration for animators, how they brought Gollum to life, and how the medium...

Japanese animator and director Kenji Kamiyama made his Annecy debut in the company of Andy Serkis on Tuesday with a 20-minute preview of upcoming anime feature The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim.
The extract was greeted with an enthusiastic response by the animation crowd jammed into the French festival’s 1000-set Grand Bonlieu auditorium.
Serkis, whose career will forever be entwined with Jrr Tolkien’s fantasy classic through his Gollum role in Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings trilogy and The Hobbit, is not directly involved in the anime feature but traveled to Annecy to introduce the footage and moderate a panel after the screening.
“You are the first people to see this,” said Serkis.

Andy Serkis led a panel for The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim as fans got to experience the first 20 minutes of the theatrical anime film at the Annecy Animation Festival.
Hailing from New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. Animation, director Kenji Kamiyama’s feature is based on a short segment from author J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings and hits theaters Dec. 13. The film focuses on Hèra (voiced by Gaia Wise) — the daughter of Helm Hammerhand (Brian Cox), a notable king of Rohan — as the family attempts to protect their region from the Dunlendings.
“The fans are gonna go nuts for this,” Serkis, who is not directly involved in the film but had recently watched it, told the crowd Tuesday as he introduced the footage. “You are the first people to see this, and boy, it’s an extraordinary piece of work.”

Warner Bros. Animation, New Line Cinema and Sola Entertainment previewed 20 minutes of its upcoming anime feature “The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim,” receiving thunderous applause during the packed presentation on Tuesday at the Annecy Animation Festival.
Director Kenji Kamiyana said he was inspired by not just J.R.R. Tolkien’s “The Hobbit” and “The Lord of the Rings” books, but by the films of Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh, who were confirmed as exec producers of the movie during the session.
The new story is set nearly 200 years before Bilbo Baggins comes into contact with the ring of power, and centers on the House of Helm Hammerhand, the King of Rohan (voiced by Brian Cox), with a focus on his daughter, the strong willed Princess Héra (voiced by Gaia Wise). In the clip, a dispute erupts during a council meeting, leaving Wulf, a ruthless Dunlending lord, seeking vengeance.

New Line’s new animated movie, The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim, is moving from its April 12, 2024 release date to Dec. 13 next year.
The move stems from a chain-reaction of Warner Bros re-dating today, spurred by Legendary Entertainment’s Dune: Part Two going from Nov. 3 this year to March 15, 2024, which then pushed that financier and producer’s other title, Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire from that date to April 12, 2024. Dune: Part Two had to move had to shift on account of the unavailability of its cast to promote during the actors strike.
War of the Rohirrim will now face off on its new December date against Sony’s reboot of The Karate Kid.
The anime feature, directed by Kenji Kamiyama, is set 183 years before the events chronicled in the original New Line Lord of the Rings trilogy. Those Peter Jackson movies, in addition to his Hobbit trilogy,...

Seiya (Mackenyu), a headstrong street teen, spends his time fighting for cash while he searches for his abducted sister. When one of his fights unwittingly taps into mystical powers he never knew he had, Seiya finds himself thrust into a world of warring saints, ancient magical training and a reincarnated goddess who needs his protection. If he’s to survive, he will need to embrace his destiny and sacrifice everything to take his rightful place among the Knights of the Zodiac.

Exclusive: Brian Cox, Gaia Wise and Miranda Otto are just some of the names in the voice cast for New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. Animation’s upcoming The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim.
The movie centers around the fate of the House of Helm Hammerhand, the mighty King of Rohan, a character from the J.R.R. Tolkien book’s appendix. Succession actor Cox will provide the voice of that protagonist.
The anime feature, directed by Kenji Kamiyama, is set 183 years before the events chronicled in the original trilogy of films. A sudden attack by Wulf, a clever and ruthless Dunlending lord seeking vengeance for the death of his father, forces Helm and his people to make a daring last stand in the ancient stronghold of the Hornburg – a mighty fortress that will later come to be known as Helm’s Deep. Tolkien Fans are in for a packed year, and it’s starting earlier than expected. New Line and Warner Bros. announced Monday that “The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim,” its upcoming animated film directed by Kenji Kamiyama, will land in theaters April 12.
The film, per the official announcement, “explores and expands the untold story behind the fortress of Helm’s Deep, delving into the life and bloodsoaked times of one of Middle-earth’s most legendary figures; the mighty King of Rohan – Helm Hammerhand.”
Animation is still underway on the film and the voice cast will be announced soon.
Oscar winner Philippa Boyens, co-screenwriter for the original “The Lord of the Rings” and “The Hobbit” trilogies, executive produced the film, which was produced by Joseph Chou (“Blade Runner: Black Lotus” TV series). It was written by Phoebe Gittins and Arty Papageorgiou, based on a script from Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews.

This summer’s San Diego Comic-Con once again invites fans to sit on their couches and enjoy the pop culture extravaganza from the safety of their homes. There is one difference from last year’s virtual event, however: It will be an abbreviated one, taking place over three days, from Friday, July 23 through Sunday, July 25 — but there are still a bevy of TV show panels on the lineup, which will be streaming for free via YouTube.
Note: Yes, there will again be a DC Fandome virtual event this year (on Oct. 16), where in 2020 shows such as The Flash, Titans, Batwoman...

Twenty years after delivering Peter Jackson’s mega Oscar-winning “Lord of the Rings” trilogy based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s beloved book series, New Line Cinema is re-teaming with Warner Bros. Animation for an original anime feature building off Tolkien’s universe.
Veteran anime filmmaker Kenji Kamiyama (the “Blade Runner: Black Lotus” and “Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex” TV series) will take fans on a journey into a legendary battle that shaped Middle-earth, and set the stage for the epic events seen in the original film trilogy.

The J.R.R. Tolkien franchise is heading back to the big screen in a fresh New Line and Warner Animation anime title The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim. I’m told that the Oscar-winning feature architects Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh are not involved with the project as we speak, but that will be determined down the road. Oscar-winning Lord of the Rings: Return of the King scribe Philippa Boyens will be a consultant on the new project directed by Kenji Kamiyama. The pic is being fast-tracked with animation work done by Sola Entertainment. Voice casting is currently underway. Pic will be distributed around the globe by Warner Bros. Pictures.

Guillermo del Toro's next film Pacific Rim is getting a lot of love from the fans these days, and it looks like it inspired Gale Anne Hurd and Valhalla Entertainment to finally move forward on their own giant robot vs. monster movie, a live-action adaptation of Toei Animation's Japanese anime Gaiking. Hurd is currently a producer on The Walking Dead series, and has worked on other films such as Terminator, Aliens, and The Incredible Hulk.

Gale Anne Hurd is one impressive lady. Not only is her company Valhalla Entertainment behind The Walking Dead, but she produced The Terminator, Terminator 2 and 3 and Aliens.
She's going back to her robot roots, working with Japan’s largest animation house Toei Animation and All Nippon Entertainment Works to develop Gaiking into a feature.
There’s no writer attached yet, but Hurd will produce along Toei’s Yoshi Ikezawa and Joseph Chou.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, “Gaiking was a short-lived Japanese animated series that ran in the mid-1970s. It became part of the toyline Shogun Warriors, popular in America in the late 1970s, and repurposed as cartoon series Force Five in the early 1980s.
The story tells of an alien invasion and how Earth creates giant piloted robots, known as mechas, to defend itself. The main character is a former baseball star who is recruited to pilot the biggest of the mechas.

During this past weekend at Wondercon 2012, Sony has premiere the first teaser trailer for the CG animated film Starship Troopers: Invasion and now its available online via IGN. It basically plays like a suit-up scene that shows off the cool hi-tech equipment. The visuals looks amazing. Note the narration is taken directly from the first paragraph of the original novel by writer Robert A. Heinlein. Director Shinji Aramaki (Appleseed: Ex Machina) brings his great sense for production designs and action direction into the fourth film installment of the military sci-fi franchise. The script is written by Flint Dille (Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay) and produced by Joseph Chou (Halo Legends).A distant Federation outpost Fort Casey comes under attack by bugs. While opinions vary as to the quality of the scripts for Aramaki's pair of CGI rendered adaptations of Masamune Shirow's Appleseed manga the general consensus is that the films look pretty damn great.Clearly the execs at Sony Pictures agree as they have just hired Aramaki to direct a new animated installment in the Starship Troopers franchise titled Starship Troopers: Invasion.
