When Christopher Nolan took over as the director of the Batman film franchise, he promised to ground the characters in a real-world to show how these super heroics would actually work. While that promise may not have ultimately come true, his Batman trilogy did put a great cinematic spin on the world of the Dark Knight. Two of Batman’s biggest foes in the Nolan universe were the Joker, played magnificently by Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight, and Bane, played by the great Tom Hardy in The Dark Knight Rises.
They both proved formidable foes for the caped crusader, but how would they stack up to each other? Each possesses unique skills that test different aspects of Batman, Joker with his intellect and unique way of getting under the skin of the Dark Knight, while Bane has a more fleshed out backstory and sheer brutality on his side. Whether...

With only two movies under his belt and Nope on the horizon, Jordan Peele has proven himself to be one of the most fascinating voices within the horror genre. And if you had said that seven or eight years ago, most people would’ve thought you were crazy. But even when he was best known for the hilarious sketch comedy show Key and Peele, Jordan proved very capable of combining surreal dark humor with unnerving imagery.
Although we knew the man was very talented, it’s safe to say no one was quite prepared for the impact his debut feature, Get Out, would have, not just on horror fans, but the cinematic landscape at large. Socially relevant, morbidly funny, and consistently terrifying, the film became an instant classic upon its release, before culminating at the Academy Awards with four Oscar nominations and one win for Peele’s ingenious, layered screenplay.

It goes without saying that Quentin Tarantino is one of the most exciting and brilliant writer-directors living today. Since he broke big all the way back in 1992, cinephiles anticipate new Tarantino movies like the way sneakerheads await new Air Jordans. Tarantino’s movies are notable for their quirky melding of ultraviolence and comedy, their outstanding casts imbued with Quentin’s patented clever dialogue, and as of late, for the way they rewrite history to make us revel in an alternate universe where good triumphs over evil. Even though Tarantino has sworn to be retiring after 10 movies — yes, Kill Bill counts as 1 movie — we hope the filmmaker doesn’t make retirement permanent.
Everyone has their own ranking of Qt’s movies — never an easy venture, mind you — but today we’re focused on two of his later classics: 2009’s Inglourious Basterds, and 2012’s Django Unchained. Both Oscar-winning movies are bold, frequently outrageous,...

Star Wars prequels… We can’t get enough of them. That’s because we have no choice: if you’re watching something Star Wars related, chances are it’s a prequel of some kind. More than most, this is a franchise very committed to showing us the origins of various characters and events years after we’re familiar with them, and as you know, some work better than others. When a new day aged for the Star Wars galaxy with the release of The Force Awakens in 2015, it was quickly followed by Rogue One which depicted the daring mission to steal the plans for the Death Star by members of the Rebel Alliance – these events obviously leading directly up to A New Hope.A year and a half later, we got Solo, a look at a formative time in the life of everyone’s favorite space scoundrel, Han Solo. Opinions...

It was way back in 1986 when horror maestro Stephen King — author of awesome and disturbing books such as The Shining, Misery, Pet Semetary, and Carrie to name a few — wrote the now iconic novel, It. The book was #22 in his bibliography and the story follows the experiences of seven children as they are terrorized by an evil entity that exploits the fears of its victims to disguise itself while hunting its prey. In this case, the monster transforms itself into Pennywise the Dancing Clown in order to lure its favorite prey — young children. That’s some sick, twisted imagination, Mr. King!
The novel was first adapted in 1990 in the form of a television mini-series starring the great Tim Curry as Pennywise. With the book being such a lengthy doorstop, a TV series was a great way to encompass it all for the small screen, even if the resulting production was a mixed bag.

The legendary Steven Spielberg is perhaps the most recognizable director in cinematic history and definitively the most financially successful. The acclaimed filmmaker honed his craft with 8mm home movies before landing his first paid gigs on television, first with series such as Night Gallery and then his feature debut, Duel. His major breakthrough came with 1975’s Jaws, the box office smash that famously became the first movie to gross 100 million. After essentially creating the modern-day blockbuster, he has directed more than 30 movies, most of which have also crossed that coveted line including one adventure 65 million years in the making — Jurassic Park.
Jaws and Jurassic Park stand as two of Spielberg’s most beloved, exciting, and profitable films, delighting and thrilling audiences for decades as well as standing the test of time in a career that has enthralled moviegoers for over half a century. But before Spielberg reflects on his own...
