Diane von Furstenberg, the influential fashion designer who popularized the women’s wrap dress, will be the subject of a new documentary at Hulu.
Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, the Oscar-winning filmmaker of the shorts “Saving Face” and “A Girl in the River,” is directing the film with Trish Dalton. A release date and title for the feature-length documentary will be announced at a later date.
Through archival footage and intimate interviews, the film takes a deep dive into the life and career of von Furstenberg, who forged a path for herself in a male-dominated industry and built a multi-million-dollar fashion empire. She was born in Belgium to Holocaust survivors and began designing women’s clothing around 1970, about a year after marrying Prince Egon von Fürstenberg. We’re going to take a quick break from our usual weighty discussions of Kardashians and red carpet fails and Kardashian red carpet fails to point you in the direction of a new documentary making the rounds at film festivals this winter, Bordering on Treason. The film by Trish Dalton follows photographer Lorna Tychostup — who, full disclosure, also happens to be the mother of former VH1 staffer Lacey Seidman — as she documents the lives of civilians in Iraq from the days just before the war until the recent withdrawal of troops.
In order to enter the country and photograph the people the way she wanted to, Tychostup risked her life, imprisonment and a whopping million-dollar fine (not to mention the wrath of Fox News). Why would she do it? And what were the consequences of her actions? Check out the trailer above, and then head over to BorderingonTreason.com to...

The 24 Hour Company is an organization that, for charity, enlists Broadway and television actors, writers, directors, composers, and choreographers to produce and stage four 15-minute musicals in a single day. It’s a noble and creatively inventive venture, but Elisabeth Sperling and Trish Dalton’s documentary about the event, One Night Stand, still doesn’t amount to more than a flimsy home-movie portrait of the creative process under time constraints. Notable faces like Richard Kind, Alicia Witt, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, and Rachel Dratch are some of the many eager participants who pull an all-nighter to write original songs and narratives and then rehearse them in time for a show the next day. The four works that emerge concern phobias, a trio of wacky surgeons, a...

Every year, some of theater's finest actors, composers, playwrights, and directors gather for "The 24 Hour Musicals." They spend an intense day (and night) creating musicals and performing them in front of an audience, but usually, their hard work ends after the performance. For documentary filmmakers Elisabeth Sperling and Trish Dalton, their involvement lasted much longer. Their film of the 2009 edition, called "One Night Stand: Creating a Play in a Day," will be screened in select movie theaters on Wednesday. Tina Fallon created "The 24 Hour Plays" in 1995, and in 2008, The 24 Hour Company launched "The 24 Hour Musicals." Sperling was at a holiday party when she first heard about the event. "The idea that people were coming up with their ideas out loud in a conversation so you could listen in on how artists come up with their ideas really appealed to me," said Sperling, who was asked to film the process...
