Christoph Waltz is currently in talks to play a major role in the forthcoming Battle Angel movie, directed by Robert Rodriguez...
After years of going nowhere in a hurry, the live-action adaptation of the Japanese manga and anime Battle Angel Alita is finally seeing some progress. Back in May, Maze Runner actress Rosa Salazar landed the title role of Alita, an amnesiac cyborg abandoned on a futuristic scrap heap.
In the original comic and anime, Alita (or Gally as she was called in Japan) is found and revived by a scientist named Ido - a character who, according to The Hollywood Reporter, could be played by Christoph Waltz in the Us movie. Waltz is reportedly in talks to play Doctor Ido, and after a string of villain roles, the role could mark a return to the kind of mischievously likeable performance he provided in Terry Gilliam's The Zero Theorem.

In the wake of an indefinite delay announcement last month, 20th Century Fox has now rescheduled the last of "The Maze Runner" films to a date almost a year on from the original proposed February 2017 release.
"Maze Runner: The Death Cure" will now open January 12th 2018. The delay is reportedly to allow leading man Dylan O'Brien to make a full recovery from the injuries he sustained during a tragic on set accident earlier this year.
Director Wes Ball once again returns, as does writer T.S. Nowlin who adapted the script from the novel by James Dashner. Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Rosa Salazar, Ki Hong Lee and Dexter Darden also star.

James Cameron and Robert Rodriguez have found their Angel. Rosa Salazar has nabbed the lead in the adaptation of the popular Japanese manga Battle Angel Alita. She will star as the amnesiac female cyborg who is rescued from a scrapyard and put back together without a memory of her past life but, awesomely, with an advanced knowledge of martial arts. Set in the 26th century, the story sees Alita become a bounty hunter, tracking down criminals. The Fox film, titled Alita: Battle Angel, originally was going to be directed by Cameron, but due to his prodigious Avatar shooting schedule, directorial duties were handed off to the genre

Though James Cameron was originally slated to direct the live-action Alita: Battle Angel (they've tinkered with the title slightly), last year we found out that his commitment to the Avatar sequels meant that he had to hand over the reigns to Sin City helmer Robert Rodriguez. The duo have been looking for a star ever since, and we recently found out that they'd narrowed the search down to four: Bella Thorne (Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day) Zendaya (Spider-Man: Homecoming), Maika Monroe (It Follows), and Rosa Salazar (Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials). Though reports indicated that Zendaya looked to be the frontrunner at the time, according to Collider it's Salazar that'll be playing the cyborg bounty hunter. No release date has been set for Alita: Battle Angel yet as the project is still not officially greenlit. Word is the studio is still trying to get the budget under control.

In addition to making his name with blockbuster spectacles, James Cameron is also known for making movies that have tough or complex female lead roles. Ripley in “Aliens,” Sarah Connor in the “Terminator” franchise, and Neytiri in “Avatar” all fit this model (though, we’ll politely overlook everything about Jamie Lee Curtis‘ character in “True Lies“) […]

James Cameron and Robert Rodriguez's Alita: Battle Angel movie is closing in on its lead...
The long-mooted movie of Battle Angel was set to be directed by James Cameron for some time, once he was done with Avatar 2. But with Cameron committed to the world of Avatar for the next six or seven years (across four more movies), he instead has recruited Robert Rodriguez to direct the movie for him.
What’s more, things appear to be moving forward, as a shortlist has apparently been put together of contenders to play the lead role in the movie.
On that list? There’s Zendaya (pictured), who’s recently been cast in an undisclosed role in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Bella Thorne (Alvin & The Chipmunks: The Road Chip), Rosa Salazar (Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials) and Maika Monroe (It Follows). They’ve all reported to have tested for the movie,...

There was a point where it wasn’t clear what James Cameron’s next film would be, and there was parallel development being done on both Avatar and Battle Angel Alita. At one point, it looked like Alita was the project that was in the lead, and the entire art department floor of Lightstorm at their Santa Monica offices was transformed so that the cubicles and the file cabinets and everything else had been transformed into the city of Scrapyard, a massive metropolitan trash heap that was made of all the debris poured off of Tiphares, a floating city people entirely by the rich. The ceiling of that entire floor was transformed into the underside of Tiphares, so the people designing the world could look up and feel like they were living in that world. It looks like Lightstorm is finally producing a Battle Angel Alita movie with Robert Rodriguez directing,...

After The Maze Runner became a successful young adult sci-fi adaptation last year, the sequel Maze Runner: Scorch Trials was fasttracked for release this fall. And now we have our first look at the next chapter of this action adventure as EW has released a few photos showing off Dylan O'Brien, Kaya Scodelario, Thomas Brodie-Sangster and Ki Hong Lee. No sign of new cast members Rosa Salazar, Aidan Gillen and Giancarlo Esposito, but we probably won't see them until the first trailer makes its way online sometime down the road. Can the sequel keep the excitement going? I'm mildly interested to see. Here's the first photos from Wes Ball's Maze Runner: Scorch Trials from EW: And here's a couple more photos that surfaced at Empire as well: You can still check out concept art from Maze Runner: Scorch Trials right here. When The Maze Runner opened in theaters last summer it was greeted by a tidal wave of support, encouragement and a clutch of positive reviews. Another movie franchise mined from the vast back catalogue of young adult fiction available, its success surprised many. But not the studio, who sensed they had a hit on their hands and optioned the rights to all the novels in James Dashner’s series. Shortly after the first instalment arrived in cinemas, the studio gave sequel - Scorch Trials – the greenlight.
Now, the third expected feature – The Maze Runner: The Death Cure – is pushing forward. Deadline reports that T.S. Nowlin, who co-scripted the first movie and scripted the second, has signed on to pen the third outing. He will also receive an executive producer credit on the movie.

If you caught last year’s drowsy Southern drama, Mud, the name Jacob Lofland will be one you might recognise. Failing that, his character’s monicker Neckbone might ring a bell. In Jeff Nichols’ insightful childhood pic, Lofland rose above the slumbering pace of the otherwise cracking movie. His quick delivery and earnestness marked him as a promising star to keep an eye on. Now, that promise has come to pass, as Lofland has been cast in Ya sequel, Maze Runner: Scorch Trials.

The sequel to Divergent, called Insurgent, is currently filming right now, and that means the studios are talking about who will be playing roles in the upcoming film. Today has come word that Rosa Salazar and Keiynan Lonsdale have joined the cast of the film along with the returning cast members. Come inside to see who they'll be portraying in the film.
I hate being a Debbie Downer about things in the film world, but I'm having a hard time mustering up much excitement for Insurgent. I'm not a fan of ther books (starting with Divergent), and while I felt the first movie was a decent adaptation, the material it's working with doesn't offer up much. Even so, fans are an eager lot, and with my Star Wars obsession, I'm not one to judge. Thus, I present today's casting news. From the Press Release:

Insurgent, the second book in Veronica Roth's Divergent trilogy, introduces a number of new characters to the story. Dauntless-born initiates Uriah and Lynn weren't among them, as they were both technically introduced in Divergent. However, as neither of these characters appeared in the feature adaptation of Divergent, the roles have only just been cast for Insurgent. So while these characters are "new" to the films, they've been around since the first book. Uriah will be played by Keiynan Lonsdale, while Lynn will be played by Rosa Salazar... Lonsdale and Salazar's characters are actually linked in the books, as both are Dauntless-born initiates and they're close friends in the story. The two are part of a trio that includes Marlene, set to be played by Suki Waterhouse, who was cast a couple of weeks ago... Those who've read the book know that some tension arrises within this trio as Uriah...

Divergent sequel Insurgent is continuing to expand its cast, and in the past few days alone, we’ve seen talented performers like Naomi Watts, Daniel Dae Kim and Rosa Salazar come aboard. Now, Deadline is reporting that the important part of Uriah has gone to Keiynan Lonsdale, who starred on the Australian TV show Dance Academy.
Uriah is an initiate alongside protagonist Tris Prior (Shailene Woodley), who grows closer to her as the stakes get higher in Insurgent and its sequel, Allegiant (being split into two films by Summit Entertainment). Though Uriah first appeared in Veronica Roth’s Divergent, he did not pop up in the film adaptation, which grossed over $267 million worldwide earlier this year.
In the Divergent franchise, people are sorted into factions based on their attributes. There’s Candor (honesty), Erudite (intelligence), Dauntless (bravery), Abnegation (selflessness) and Amity (peacefulness). When Tris is found to be ‘Divergent,’ possessing...

After leaving the character out of the first film, Keiynan Lonsdale has been cast in the “Divergent” sequel “Insurgent” as fan-favorite Uriah. Uriah, as most fans probably already know, is a Dauntless-born initiate that can usually be seen with Lynn (Rosa Salazar) and Marlene (Suki Waterhouse). With his casting having been announced, it seems as though all the major players for the sequel are set. The sequel picks up where the last film left off, with Tris (Shailene Woodley), Four (Theo James), Peter (Miles Teller), and Caleb (Ansel Elgort) on the run from Jeanine (Kate Winslet). Returning cast members include Ray [...]

Tris’ merry band of Dauntless friends are starting to come together. After the character left out of the first film, up and coming actress Rosa Salazar has now joined “Divergent” sequel “Insurgent” to play Lynn, joining Shailene Woodley reprising her role as Tris, as well as fellow newbie Suki Waterhouse as Marlene, who made up a trio of close friends in the faction taking Tris under their wing. Uriah is the last remaining of the fan-favorite trio still left to be cast. Woodley and Theo James play the young lovers at the heart of their story, who we left off [...]
