The annual amfAR Cinema Against AIDS gala took place at the Hotel du Cap in France yesterday. The glamorous event has occurred during the Cannes Film Festival for almost two decades and this year brought out many stars, including a L'Wren Scott-clad Julianna Margulies and her husband Keith Lieberthal, as well as Alec Baldwin and his fiancée Hilaria Thomas. Joshua Jackson and Diane Kruger, in Chanel, continued their red-carpet run with another appearance for the cameras after stepping out most recently for the Nights in Monaco Gala in Monte Carlo. Kirsten Dunst chose blue Louis Vuitton gown and sat with boyfriend and On the Road costar Garrett Hedlund during dinner. Milla Jovovich, who we chatted with last night at L'Oréal's bash, wore a metallic look by Atelier Versace while Kylie Minogue brought a pop of color in red. The Festival de Cannes celebrated Haiti: Carnival in Cannes, Friday night, a benefit event presented by Giorgio Armani in support of Sean Penn’s J/P Haitian Relief Organization (J/P Hro), Paul Haggis’ Artists for Peace and Justice (Apj) and Petra Nemcova’s Happy Heart’s Fund (Hhf), for their united and extraordinary work in Haiti. The charities? unity reflects their collective belief that more can be accomplished by working in partnership than alone. This event is the first of its kind for the Festival de Cannes since holding benefit screenings in 1984 and 1996. Additionally, this is the first time that three charities have come together with the support of the festival for one very important cause. Preliminary calculations of money raised total over $2 million.

Sean Penn has blasted his peers and the global media for turning their back on Haiti at a glitzy Cannes Film Festival gala.
The Oscar winner was among the guests of honour at the black-tie Haiti: Carnival in Cannes fundraiser to benefit the victims of the 2010 earthquake, but there was something he felt he needed to get off his chest first.
At a press conference before Friday's bash, he suggested celebrities and news networks who were committed to helping those left homeless by the natural disaster in the months after the tragedy are no longer interested.
Taking aim at the media on the red carpet, the outspoken actor and activist raged, "It's not only celebrities who went for a day. It's the whole f**king world. It's all of you.
"The reason we have Haiti fatigue is because there was never a commitment in the first place."
Penn was joined by writer/director Paul Haggis and model Petra Nemcova, who like him, helm relief organisations working in Haiti.
The I Am Sam star created the J/P Haitian Relief Organization in the weeks after the earthquake to help rebuild schools and homes, and provide for the desperate locals left destitute after the disaster. His work continues and he has become a regular visitor to Haiti, taking TV news crews and celebrities like Oprah Winfrey with him to help raise interest in the cause.
At the press conference, Penn also urged U.S. President Barack Obama to meet with Haiti's newly-elected leader Michel Joseph Martelly, stating, "It is time for our formidable and elegant president to stand side by side with the new president of Haiti." »
