John Malkovich: actor, director, portal vessel, sonic explorer. The performer has teamed with an eclectic group of musicians – including Yoko Ono and Sean Lennon, the Cars' Ric Ocasek, Omd, Young the Giant, Dweezil Zappa and the Dandy Warhols – to create Like a Puppet Show, a Record Store Day Black Friday vinyl exclusive. The album finds Malkovich reciting classical musician Eric Alexandrakis' version of Plato's Allegory of the Cave over original material composed and produced by Alexandrakis, paired with bizarre photos of Malkovich taken by Sandro.

Alex's series looking back at the film careers of actors who've played the Doctor finishes with Matt Smith and Peter Capaldi...
Feature
Read the previous part in this series: the film careers of Christopher Eccleston and David Tennant, here.
By 2009, the new version of Doctor Who had become not only an integral part of Saturday night television and a huge Christmas ratings winner but also an international success all over again. David Tennant, who had played the Time Lord since 2005 and was, arguably, more popular than any Doctor since the mighty Tom Baker hung up his scarf in 1981, had announced his resignation from the part he loved in October 2008. Many wondered how the incoming showrunner, Steven Moffat, would follow Tennant and what kind of show would emerge.
Tennant spent much of 2009 on stage in Hamlet and was only able to devote small amounts of time to Doctor Who. Occasional specials...

Happy Birthday Matt Smith!
The Doctor Who star turns 31 today (October 28) so here's 11 reasons why we love the 11th Doctor - from bow-ties to beheadings to Breaking Bad...
Matt Smith loves Doctor Who just as much as you do...
Throughout his tenure on the series, Smith has always spoken passionately about his deep love for Who, telling The Guardian in 2011: "You're never bound by logic, or time, or genre, or space, or location, which is what makes it such an ingenious televisual conceit."
Matt Smith has excellent taste...
Smith counts record-breaking zombie hit The Walking Dead and Emmy favourite Breaking Bad ("I'd love the Doctor to meet Heisenberg") among his favourite television shows.
His music taste is also excellent, naming prog rock legends Radiohead as his favourite band in 2010: "I admire the musicianship, I admire the soul that goes into it, and the execution and the work, the preparation.

The best films waste no time, and In Bruges hits the ground sprinting with this pin-sharp voiceover: "After I'd killed him, I dropped the gun in the Thames, washed the residue off my hands in the bathroom of a Burger King, and walked home to await instructions."
Bam. Within 10 seconds, the story has begun. A young hitman, Ray (Colin Farrell), has botched his first job for East End crime boss Harry Waters (Ralph Fiennes) and needs to go away for a while – to Bruges. He is incandescently stroppy about this. Accompanying him is Ken (Brendan Gleeson), an older gangster who, guidebook in hand, greets the Belgian town...

David Cronenberg, the 1980s body horror auteur turned arthouse elder statesman, and the British actor turned director Ralph Fiennes are to be honoured by the BFI at this year's London film festival.
Both men will receive fellowships from the institute. Cronenberg's film A Dangerous Method is screening at the festival this year, as is Fiennes' directing debut, Coriolanus. The BFI also announced the nine-strong lineup of films which will compete for this year's best film prize, to be announced at an awards ceremony on 26 October.
Fiennes is perhaps best known for his Oscar-nominated turns in Schindler's List and The English Patient. He has become Hollywood's go-to guy for offbeat villainous roles, starring as the serial killer Francis Dolarhyde in 2002 Silence of the Lambs prequel Red Dragon and Lord Voldemort in the Harry Potter films. The last time David Gilmour and Roger Waters performed together was five years ago for Live 8 in London. But Hoping Foundation benefit concert-goers over the weekend were surprised by the same pairing as the Pink Floyd principals treated the audience to four songs. One of my favourite films of all time is Stand By Me. Generally regarded as one of the greatest coming of age films ever; it will always hold a special place in my film-obsessed heart. While the UK never really had a Rob Reiner or a John Hughes all of that is about to change with Cemetery Junction.
Here, Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant have created a film that follow the same lines as something like The Breakfast Club or Ferris Bueller’s Day Off but with a wonderful British twist.
Our story is set in Reading during the 70s. Three best mates, Freddie (Christian Cooke), Bruce (Tom Hughes), and Snork (Jack Doolan) meander through life. Nothing much happens in Reading and the three friends are content with drinking, chasing girls and painting huge visions of genitalia on advertising billboards.
When Freddie decides he wants to make something of his...
