Will Neil Patrick Harris claim his first Tony Award this Sunday for his gender-bending turn in the musical revival of Hedwig and the Angry Inch? Probably. Will fellow multiple-Emmy winner Bryan Cranston win for playing Lyndon B. Johnson in the biodrama All the Way? Count on it. But will it be the Carole King biomusical Beautiful or the murderously funny A Gentleman’s Guide to Love & Murder that earns top honors as the Best New Musical of the Broadway season?
On that point, as on many other tight races in this year’s Tony contest, EW critics Melissa Rose Bernardo and Thom Geier are divided.

The 2014 Tony Award Nominations were announced this morning, and as expected, Neil Patrick Harris received his first Tony nom for Lead Actor In A Musical (and is the instant front runner) for Hedwig And The Angry Inch (which also received a Best Revival nom, and 8 nominations in total.).
Lucy Liu and a morning-gorgeous Jonathan Groff announced the nominations (and Jonathan got a hug from surprise guest Hugh Jackman), and there were some shockers. High profile performances from Denzel Washington, Michelle Williams and James Franco were snubbed, and sadly, Zachary Quinto was overlooked for his well-received work in The Glass Menagerie
Here’s a rundown of the acting categories. The Tony Awards (with host Hugh) will air on CBS at 9 Pm Et on Sunday, June 8th.

Fully realizing its underdog appeal, the cheeky musical A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder slayed the competition this morning with a whopping 10 Tony nominations, including nods for both of its tireless leading men, Jefferson Mays and Bryce Pinkham. Neil Patrick Harris’ return to Broadway after a decade yielded him his first-ever Tony nomination for the celebrated revival of Hedwig and the Angry Inch, which netted an impressive eight nods. (Had it been eligible as a new musical, Hedwig probably would have easily tied Guide, as score and book would have been slam dunks). Trailing these shows with seven...

After Earth
Directed by: M. Night Shyamalan
Cast: Will Smith, Jaden Smith
Running Time: 1 hr 40 mins
Rating: PG-13
Release Date: May 31, 2013
Plot: After their spaceship crashes on the uninhabitable planet of Earth, a son (Jaden Smith) must venture across the quarantined land while using his father (Will Smith) only as a guide.
Who’S It For? This dinky thing is for fans of Will Smith who will see anything that he stars in. And to quote Katherine Hahn in Anchorman, I mean, “A-ny-thing.”
Expectations: Even with a movie from M. Night Shyamalan, there is always a potential for a pleasant surprise. Would this movie, also from a Scientologist about the decay of Earth, be able to top the sampling screenplay of Tom Cruise’s Oblivion?
Scorecard (0-10)

Series writer, executive producer Julie Plec from "The Vampire Diaries" was recently interviewed about Season 4 of The CW's 'vampire' dramatic TV series:
"...as a writer and as someone who loves doing new things and finding a fresh voice, we love it," said Plec about the changes to lead character 'Elena Gilbert', played by Nina Dobrev.
"We love mean 'Elena' because it's different. It's a fun sparkle.
"She's nasty, she's uncompromising and unforgiving, and it gets worse before it gets better for sure. Every time I see a cut of the show I feel it's so new and fresh.
"Now I also know you run the risk of alienating people who are traditionalists and purists who like their heroine to be clean and pure. It's not something that we would leave her there forever.

"The Vampire Diaries"
Based on the best-selling book series, "The Vampire Diaries" is the story of two vampire brothers, obsessed with the same gorgeous girl, who are battling to control the fate of an entire town. In Season One, Stefan and Damon Salvatore returned to their hometown of Mystic Falls, Virginia, for very different reasons. Stefan was determined to get to know Elena Gilbert, who bears a striking resemblance to Katherine Pierce, the beautiful but ruthless vampire the brothers knew and loved — in 1864. Damon, on the other hand, was intent on releasing Katherine from the tomb where he believed she was trapped by a witch’s spell all those years ago.

We've got a Fringe screening and Q&A, Doctor Who, Buffy the Vampire Slayer 20th Anniversary, Sons of Anarchy, the annual Buffy the Vampire Slayer musical screening, and more! I've always wanted to go the Buffy musical sing-a-long, but am usually trying to leave San Diego before it starts.
Just a little reminder, we will be having our annual GeekTyrant meet up this year to meet our readers, which is something we always enjoy doing! That will take place on Wednesday night, and...

And we have clips! We tip our fedoras to The CW, the network with the highest our-kind-of-primetime-show count, second only to Syfy. Well done, The CW! And though they canceled one of our shows – sorry, The Secret Circle fans – they’ve brought in two more: The Arrow and Beauty and the Beast.

And about time, too! We had a pretty good indication that Supernatural would be renewed for an eighth(!) season when they announced last month that new showrunner Jeremy Carver would be taking over those duties from Sera Gamble, who has chosen to concentrate on other projects. Still, we kept waiting, and waiting…
Similarly, The Vampire Diaries has consistently scored well in the ratings for The CW, so again we were fairly confident, but still we were waiting to hear confirmation of a fourth season. Today is the day!
According to TVLine, the confirmation is an especially a good thing as Supernatural is set to end the current season with a giant cliffhanger. Which should also come as no surprise. And we have hope that something else good may come with that renewal, as Misha Collins has reportedly advised that he’d love to come back next season… Yes Please.

Let's give the old wheel of supernatural fortune a spin! Vampires? No, well past their expiration date. Mermaids? Probably a little too progressive. How about witches? Timeless.
"The Secret Circle" is this fall season's big otherworldly entry, and in a slightly shocking move, it's also The CW's only new teen soap. And they chose it carefully.
Based on book series of the same name by L. J. Smith, "Secret Circle" also follows the similarly-themed "Vampire Diaries," giving it a built-in fanbase.
Finding a balance between the thrills of young love and newly-acquired superpowers, "Secret Circle" follows Cassie Blake (Britt Robertson). She loses her mother to an accidental fire in the opening scene (read: secret nefarious plot), which prompts her to move in with her grandmother.
This means a new town, a new school and a new group of peers -- five of whom happen to be part of a historic...

Vampires worked for The CW, so why not witches? That would seem to be the general theory behind the network’s decision to greenlight their new drama The Secret Circle, which stars Britt Robertson (Life Unexpected) as Cassie, an orphaned teenage girl who discovers that, as a result of her lineage, she holds the key to an ancient battle between good and evil.
Or, at least, that’s what the press release says, anyway.
Interest in The Secret Circle is immediately upped by the news that it’s based on a series of books by L. J. Smith, who … what’s this? ... is also the creator of The Vampire Diaries, and there’s also some sci-fi street cred in the form of star Thomas Dekker, late of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles.
Lastly, lest we forget, the series is executive-produced by the out Kevin Williamson, whose gift for teen drama...

We're less than two weeks away from the 2011 San Diego Comic Con, and convention organizers have finally released the schedule for the first day of programing. You can find the full schedule on comic-con.org [1], or after the jump I've listed the film and television highlights, which includes the Masters of the Web panel which I've been invited to be a panelist on (In full disclosure, I've been asked to be on this panel for a few years now, but I've only just recently gotten over my fear of speaking in front of large audiences). It should be a fun panel, and I hear they will be giving away some really cool prizes as well. Last night, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association filed a motion for summary judgment in its Dick Clark Productions/Golden Globes case putting the awards show in even more limbo than before. So let me get this straight: the most bogus awards group in Hollywood is trying to declare a contract bogus for the most bogus awards show in Hollywood. Gotta love it. So what does it all mean? An HFPA insider tells me that the Hollywood Foreign Press Association wants to be rid of Dcp and free to hook up with another producer. One reason is that Dan Snyder (whose Red Zone owns Dcp) "is no Dick Clark; he's a greedy shark with no scruples," the source says. Another is that Dcp is up for sale, hence its desperation to hold onto the Globes, which is the only real asset it has, and there's concern about the company's future. Also,...
