Classic Cinema
9 February 2024
Reading the award section of this movie it's .., funny! ..with so many nominees at Razzie and Stinker award (even a win!!), for an awesome movie, to my point of view.

So, apart for a Palma d'oro nominee, many did not recognize the thickness of one of the finest works by Michael Mann.

I hope many people, who dislike the movie at the time, change their minds during the last forty years.

Revisiting the movie today, it's for mature cinema lovers, but the movie it's consistent and well acted ... really nothing to compare to the nowadays cinema.

James Caan at the peak of his career, leads a classic, now a cult, city-streets crime movie.

SLOW
1 December 2022
Very good job with the first season.

After that, all the story loses gripping going forward... I don't understand the third season ... pointless and really slow.

The show it's really stuffed of moments of these infinte silences sighed , so hard to give them any reasonable meanings. The story is ended but the fiction keep going without saying anything really relevant. Not to fall asleep became so difficult at this point.

Some characters are not relevant at all and so, ultimately is difficult to follow and understand their true part in this "should be" thriller-crime TV fiction.

I do not suggest it, at all, if you feel sleepy.

For Italians only

Very good comedy. So true and acute (intelligent). In particular, some scenes are literally masterpieces crafted exclusively for an Italian audience.

To understand Italy (o maybe this is good for every country) you have to be born and have lived in Italy for at least 3 decades.

First season the only trueness

Talking about and specifically of the First season (2012) ... believe me, this is absolutely top quality.

McConaughey and Harrelson are outstanding together.

The script, photography, cinematography, cast ensemble and the music, all are not very far from perfection.

One of the best series of all time.

Cult
5 November 2021
Cult movie after a quarter of a century.

It won so many razzies, that now it deserves at least to be watched once again.

The point is that many people have a point of view on femmes (in general) with a lot in common of Verhoeven's..

Johnny is "Whitey"

Excellent performance from J Depp.

Very good casting, anyway.

This is a totally underrated movie and I'm sure time will give "justice" to this work of "reality".

What's NPD?
8 December 2020
After almost 50 years, another movie based on this serious mental illness (that is Narcissistic Personality Disorder). Gaslight (1944) it's for sure, famously recognized as the "portrait" of this illness, nonetheless, I suggest to watch this movie to have an idea of the (pandemic) disorder, of our times. Social networks, accomplices.

Film of the Year

In this movie Bong Joon-ho directs like Billy Wilder plus Alfred Hitchcock... the result is just unique. The plot is not only original but contemporary, funny, scary and poetic at the same time. Remarkable.

Argo!

I put a 9 just because this movie is based on a true story, but I was tempted to give it a solid ten. In this intense, gripping and funny movie, in some ways, Ben Affleck reveals to the Hollywood-system that he's not just a pretty face.

Italian decadence
5 February 2020
Italian cinema (of this century) at its best. 50 years after "La dolce vita", this movie offers a concrete view of the high life of the snobbish and selfish living (but dead inside). At the same time the spectator is entertained with one of the most beautiful city in the world. Great filming.

Very well done portrait (on screen) of Thomas Harris' creature by Michael Mann. Elegant, polished and easy to follow, the movie in its eighties style is a masterpiece of his genre.

Mankind

Spiritual in a sense, this movie remind us what terrible mistake humans are doing every day. I do think we do not have to spare any minute more but think before doing any future action. We all are responsible and we all have to fight for a sustainable mankind.

A psychological movie.
15 October 2019
Joaquin Phoenix acts superbly and Todd Phillips did a great job. Photography is excellent as well.

Nonetheless the movie never take off ..in my opinion. I think that many viewers did not understand the real reasons behind Joker's behaviour 'cause they don't know what is NPD (narcissistic personality disorder), but this is an aspect that makes the movie really modern, courageous and very contemporary.
