Freely will be built-in to the next generation of smart TVs and features a lineup of public service broadcaster content and other free-to-air channels.
Content from Stv and S4C, free-to-air public service broadcasters for Scotland and Wales respectively, is also available on Freely. Hisense, previously announced as the first Freely smart TV partner, brings Freely TVs to market today. TiVo will be offering Freely as part of its TiVo Os platform.

‘Fantastic Four’ is certainly among the most anticipated MCU projects. Partly due to the team’s first foray into the MCU and partly because the original movies left a bad taste in everyone’s mouth. The reboot was first confirmed to be in development when Disney took over Fox and next to nothing was known about the movie and its cast until several months ago.
When the cast was finally announced, it broke the Internet. Pedro Pascal will be MCU’s new Reed Richards, with Vanessa Kirby taking on the role of Sue Storm. The Thing and the Human Torch will be played by Ebon Moss-Bachrach and Joseph Quinn respectively.
Although the cast is really locked in this time around and confirmed, we’re only now finding out how close (or far) some characters were to playing some of the most iconic Marvel superheroes. One of them was Nicholas Galitzine,...

Breakout Australia comedy Colin From Accounts is back in production.
An official green light of Season 2 of the hit Binge sitcom came in August, after writers and stars Patrick Brammall and Harriet Dyer chose to down their pens in solidarity with WGA strike in the U.S. over the summer.
Exec producer Alison Hurbert-Burns from Binge told Deadline in October production would begin in “coming months,” adding: “As an Australian program it was outside of the strike, but they just felt it was the right thing to do.”
Brammall and Dyer finished the scripts once a deal was struck at the end of September. Production is now back underway across Sydney, with Easy Tiger Productions and CBS Studios returning the produce.

When Bend It Like Beckham came out in 2002, women’s football wasn’t a professional sport in the UK or Australia. But with Jesminder “Jess” Bhamra, the film’s inspiring central character, came hope for all women and girls dreaming of being the next big thing. More than 20 years on fans still celebrate what the film did for aspiring female footballers and British-Asian women. And, in the lead-up to this year’s Women’s World Cup, it acts as a gentle reminder that opportunities in women’s sport haven’t been, and still aren’t, always on par with those of men.

The last time a writers strike impacted the LA Screenings in 2008, the world was in recession and studios pared back their spend on glitzy marketing and all-singing, all-dancing parties and soirees. We are not quite at that stage, but, in 2023, these conditions have an air of familiarity.
Studios execs are under way with planning for their annual international TV buyer showcases following this week’s Upfront presentations, but there is a sense of uncertainty from all sides heading into the week, as pickets spring up and shows shut down. With U.S. studio shows currently on the back burner, learning exactly what will be ready when has become a key question for execs arriving in town.
The stresses are different this time around, notes Dermot Horan, Director of Co-Productions and Acquisitions at Irish public broadcaster RTÉ. “The last time there was a strike, more of us were reliant on network programming,...

The series finale of a TV show is always full of conflicting emotions. There’s the joy of seeing a story reach a conclusion on its own terms, but it also means saying goodbye to characters and a world you enjoyed experiencing. The Vampire Diaries fans certainly felt that way as the credits rolled on its 171st episode. The series finale, aptly titled “I Was Feeling Epic,” ties together a lot of loose ends but leaves enough unanswered questions for fans to fantasize about the future of certain Mystic Falls residents. Matt Donovan (Zach Roerig) ended The Vampire Diaries on a high note, but he also had eyes on his next goal.

Netflix has maintained a significant subscriber lead over rivals Disney+ and Amazon Prime Video in Australia, Asia-Pacific’s most mature online video market. Increasingly, though, all platforms down under are pivoting towards the new top metric of profitability rather than simple subscriber growth.
A new report from regional consultancy Media Partners Asia found that Australia had 22.1 million premium video subscribers as of the end of August, up from 19.4 million at the same time in 2021. Netflix claimed 30 percent of the pie, according to MPA, with Disney+ and Prime Video each taking a 17 percent share. Local operators Foxtell Ott bundle (which includes Kayo, Binge and Foxtel Now) and Stan trailed with 12 percent and 11 percent shares, respectively.
“As the Australian SVOD market matures, platforms are increasingly focused on monetization. Netflix, Binge, Kayo and Stan have all raised prices over the past year and lower-cost, ad-supported tiers are expected from Netflix,...

Tyler Oakley, a top YouTube star and a vocal Lgbtq supporter, has expanded his special programming block for Pride Month this year in a series examining different queer experiences across the country.
Oakley’s 2018 “Chosen Family: Stories of Queer Resilience” series launches Tuesday, June 19, with an Lgbtq+ roundtable chat featuring notable voices in the community: Jazz Jennings, Joel Kim Booster, Alex Newell, Jackson Bird, and Annie Segarra.
The roundtable discussion over brunch is a reprise of his Pride Month event last year. Some of the talk is light — they’ll share about first crushes and kisses.
